Your friend seemed like an intersting guy. He certainly had an eclectic collection of vehicles. IF you are comfortable it would be interesting to hear you talk about him and share some memories.
the bosch k-jetronic fuel system was used on lots of european cars, not just mercedes and ferrari but also on cheap brands like volkswagen. my guess is that a fuel pump from an early vw rabbit gti is the same or similar unit that mercedes would have used on a v8 car and because it's a vw part it should cost a lot less. this is a high-pressure system that runs about 100psi of fuel pressure up to the fuel distributor so you can't use a typical efi pump as a replacement since those only produce 50psi or so. bosch likes to use banjo fittings, i highly recommend you always replace both copper sealing washers every time you take one of these connections apart, most burned-up ferraris were the result of a leaky fuel connection.
i remember Bobby Ewing in Dallas Back in Day & Bobby Car Was red Mercedes 380sl/slc/w107 series And its was very first convertible used in the Dallas series also a 450 SL R107 from 1978, identifiable by its metal rims with the typical brand hubcaps and the front spoiler specific to the 1978 and 1979 vintages its was Equipped with a 4520 cm3 V8, its, only developed 190 horsepower, 35 less than the European version - but that was still more than enough to cruise at 90 km/h and the second season, another 450 SL took over, and was recognizable Equipped with Fuchs alloy rims, this car was replaced by a third 450 in the course of season 4; the latter included the aesthetic changes made in 1980 - among other things, more square headrests and a new steering wheel. However, it would soon disappear from the screen, replaced the following year by a 380 SL almost identical aesthetically but those power had dropped to only 155 horsepower. It is this version that we would see the most. It played the role until the spring of 1985, at the end of Season 8 but in beginning of season 10 Front of the house Where awaits a gleaming 560 SL, last evolution of the R107 before retirement and Those 227 horsepower endowed it with a punch worthy of the European models. Bobby didn’t benefit for long: his car was destroyed in an accident during the cliffhanger episode in 1987. And The J.R. mainly drove a long series of S-Class models, which allowed Mercedes to further consolidate the image of its luxury sedan in the mind of the general public A car whose merger performance is best not to dwell on: stifled, like so many other engines, by North American anti-polution constraints, the six-cylinder only exhaled a measly 144 horsepower. This was perhaps the reason why, starting in season 2, the eldest son Ewing replaced it with a silver green 450 SEL, undoubtedly more in line with his standing - eight cylinders and a long chassis … It was succeeded by a 380 SEL silver-thistle coloured W126 which would last a long time, since we would see it cast in the series until 1985, after which a 500 SEL, then a 560 SEL would replace it in turn. However, in 1987, claiming his patriotism, J.R. abandoned his Mercedes for a Cadillac Allanté - but we cannot say that his choice was enough to save the career of the Italian-American convertible from disparition … A funny anecdote: during the 26th episode of season 6, initially broadcast in April 1983, Sue Ellen left Southfork behind the wheel of her charming husband’s 380 SEL before having an accident and having a barrel roll… executed by a W116! The differences between the two cars appeared very clearly on the screen from one shot to another, but the producers no doubt thought that viewers would fall for it anyway … which most likely was the case.and Sue Ellen Ewing's adventures of her sad existence began at the wheel of a series of Mercury Colony Park station wagons, until in December 1980, thanks to yet another reconciliation, J.R. offered her her first Mercedes - a 300 TD station wagon from the S123 series, proudly bearing the « DIESEL » logo on its tailgate, as the manufacturer was used to doing for its American models at that time. The rattling sound of the naturally aspirated five-cylinder (angry 77 horsepower!) was clearly audible during the scene in which its owner took the wheel for the very first time. Two years later, this car would give way to a metallic blue 380 SEC C126 coupé which, after the model restyling, would be abandoned in favor of a 560 SEC; a great end to the journey! Of course, « Dallas » was not an automobile-centric series like « Knight Rider » or « The Dukes of Hazzard”. Nonetheless, it can be said that for its most iconic characters at least, cars played essential supporting roles, at least in terms of identification. In this way, the series having been shot in Hollywood for the interior scenes and in Texas for the exteriors, a number of shots intended to illustrate the comings and goings of each other consisted of filming the various Mercedes used in the series on the outskirts of the Southfork Ranch (which still exists and has been converted into a conference center), driven most of the time by doubles: thus, it was enough to show a red SL parked in a street for one to understand that Bobby was about to enter the scene.
He inherited the ability to have never ending inheritance..lol naw when you acquired an inheritance this massive why not honor the person and show what the person had that is noy being forgotten.

I had a spotless one with a removable hardtop I bought out in Asheville from a dealer of all places. It was slow as hell for having a giant V8 but it was bulletproof. There was nothing more fun than driving it down to Florida with the top down.
" Ain't nothin gonna be cheap". . . LMAO. The thing about Mercedes is that they are great cars untill something goes wrong. Complicated vehicles and built with precision but damn, when they go sideways it takes on a snowball effect. I've owned two. Nice car that floor board looks just like my jeep grand cherokee did when I bought it, the sunroof had a drain tube running down the A Pilar and through the floor and was clogged keeping the floor wet and green, I'd suspect you may have the same issues. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
It's probably been fixed already but make sure it has had the timing chain changed to double roller from single. That was a big issue back in the day on these 380 engines.
I washed my old Sears ST12 garden tractor the other day and I let it sit 15 or 20 minutes and I started it up and boy when I hit that key she hit me hard obviously she won't dry yet lol
Man, I'd love to see you and Vice Grip Garage do a whole series on stuff like this. Y'alls approach to these old cars, commentary, etc seem similar and I think it would mesh well. Give it some thought!
Those old style Benz fuses are the worst. I've had more problems with my 87 W201 caused by those stupid fuses than anything else. One of the things on my to-do list is to go to a junk yard and find a fuse box from a modern car that I can graft into it to switch it to blade fuses. There are a few companies out there that make decent copper fuses for these cars. The aluminum ones aren't worth a crap in my experience.
If you're lucky it will be the pump. I have an 1981 380 that hasn't run for 30 years. Fuel pump and filter will hopefully do it for you. These have a pretty finicky fuel distribution block sitting on top of the engine and rebuilding them is close to $500, replacement isn't really an option. There's also a pair of pressure regulators upstream from that that are no longer made... guys routinely spend big $$$$ getting these to run again. Mine still needs the tank pulled and boiled-out (maybe replaced), fuel distributor repaired, hopefully no fuel pressure regulators or throttle-body repairs, we'll see. I'll be watching yours with interest....
And that is EXACTLY how I open the hood on a car that has been sitting in the weeds for a long time! BEE Carful ! (again, I love those old Mercedes, such great looking cars!)
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang dude! That is like one of the best and coolest generations of benz ever made! It doesn't get much more boss and class than that thing.
I feel your fear of bees. I just killed a copperhead entering my garage as I was on the other side bleeding brakes.... Now everywhere I step I am looking for another.

I would service the timing chain stuff right away even if you won't keep it for long it's been sitting for a while. Another thing is the locking system is vacuum operated for the doors, if that doesn't quite work its going too need service and too seal up any leaks on that part, along with any rubber seals on the car ofc, are likely old & will start too have water leak in, specially the trunk.
