If this Jack Yates High School football team isn't the best team all-time in Texas it won't take long to call the roll. They were big, fast, athletic and well-coached. Permian was very disciplined and extremely well-coached as well, but Yates was just so much more talented. I really don't think the Yates kids knew how really good they were.
Yes we did. We were preseason ranked #1 & then entered the playoffs undefeated setting records for most points scored and fewest allowed. We expected to win. Isn't it obvious?
@@grxengine Yes, Yates was a truly great team. My comment was meant to be a compliment. Jesse H. Jones, a district opponent, was the only team that could match up with the Lions that season, and the Lions won two closely played games...a district game and then a play-off game. I have followed Texas High School football for more than 70 years, and personally this Yates team is the best I have personally seen. There are just as many folks who think the 1988 Carter High School team is Texas' all-time best. I never saw the Carter team play, but I am aware that it was extremely talented also with many former players moving on to Division I schools and then to the NFL with highly successful careers. Former students of both schools should be very proud.
@@jp3923 My frat brother from Dallas did a movie documentary on the team called "The Great Yates". He's from Dallas but believe they were the best to HS football ever to play in Texas.
@@danielbrown7115 Thank you for your reply. I wasn't aware there was a movie documentary made about the Yates HS football team. I know there was a film about the Dallas Carter team of the 1980s which some consider the all-time best Texas high school team. I'm persuaded that one could easily argue either could be considered best all-time. Both were awesome!

I was actually at this game and it wasn't as close as the score even indicated and the score said blowout. Permian was intimidated from the opening whistle if not before. Actually, they were probably intimidated during film watching. Yates was just way better
