I made one of these, but i used 2 igbts in parallel in place of each mosfet, a separate 16 volt supply for the gates and a 50 volt supply with over 15 amps to power the rest of the circuit. The arcs were insane! I could draw them out to maybe 8 or 9 inches before they break and they were thick and bright.
CoolDudeClem mosfets are better because they can switch more frequently than igbts. A plus point for the igbt is that it can handle a lot of power
yeah igbts waste alot of energy as heat don't they?
CoolDudeClem which power supply did you use
Have the same question, a 750 watt SMPS is pricey
Yah until the zvs driver breaks because mine did that's why I'm buying a better quality one with two inductive chokes
Really liking this channel man. You plan on doing more videos on tesla coils? I'd love to see a bit of a walk through on building one that plays music. Not slayer exciters, those are everywhere. But something more along the lines of what Arcattack and a few others on RUclips have made.
Dude, Congratz for your Channel! Im an Eletronics Student and Im glad I finded your channel. Continue working like that!!
A hug from Portugal!
Portugal caralho
Hello, you've explained shematic a bit wrong; primary coil and 0,68uf cap are working together and make resonance circut, so the voltage and current are sinusoidal, not square wave (trust me, i checked it with my oscilloscope); also that's the reason why your wire's insulation is melting - resonating current between the cap and the coil is much larger than dc input current, so wires heat up much more quickly than expected
+alcatel995channel ahh I see, I tried to check it with my oscilloscope, but mine is a bit stubborn so I couldn't get it to shop up, but that makes sense, thank you!!
Can u tell me how to make 200micro henry inductor
Pls help me my capacitor burns out in few minutes
Hey hey hey look who decided to show up in my subscriber list 🤗
+logan thompson hey hey hey, look who decided to show up in my comment section 😄
Hi I could you please tell me how you promoted your channel initially, Please help
Mosfets can drive much higher currents without heating too much. The difference between them is in simple terms, mosfet acts more like a switch whereas transistor acts as a variable resistor. Since this circuit doesn't need to produce a sine wave (it probably produces square wave), we can use mosfets for greater efficiency. Because of that efficiency, mosfets don't heat up as much as those power transistors. For example a mosfet of that size can handle currents up to 50 Amps depending on its type. Because they have a much lower internal resistance in conducting state.
If i were to make the same driver to run higher amounts of current, would the same values hold true for the capacitors and resistors?
@@adityavarma193 yes just use capacitors that can handle high current
I wonder why don't you have more subscribers. You're awesome.
Keystone Science ,your knowledge is pretty impressive :D What did you study ?
Dear friend, you are great. I understood only a few words from the whole explanation, but I was very impresed. Sorry for my English.
It's also called Mazilli but having found the patent holder I didn't bother to figure out who Mazilli is (probably someone who lost a race to the patent office i guess).
Don't be like those guys who run around on top of buildings and then fall off. This is an insane amount of voltage. You touch it, your hand curls up. You must know the linemans trick to touch a "cold" wire with the BACK of your hand so that if it is life when your body contracts it throws your fist back to you -- instead of clenching the wire which was in fact hot.
Electricity is powerful you gotta respect it. You respect it it respects you. One time i got a 240v shocker in Eastern Europe on dodgy soviet gear. Genuinely burned myself, very glad it didn't go frome one hand and out the other right across my heart. so yeah, always work one handed.
LOL I see a soldering or electrical burn on his right thumb LOL…True experimenter!
Hey Keystone Science, I have been making this circuit either using IRFP 250 N or IRFP 260 N, both are working great and make a nice arc up to 10 cm long at 32 VDC 10 Amp , but I am curious about using IGBT's as the replacement for the power MOSFET's, since it can handle more Voltage and Current. can you atleast make a simple video that explain and if possibly make one ZVS driver that uses IGBT's ?. I am looking forward for your respond.
Holy crap! This is extremely dangerous ! I like it!
+Rai Blue-spark haha xD
This is a waaay better channel than King of Random
+Geeky Channel haha, thanks :D
Keystone Science his content was decent a year ago but in the last several months he's gone full clickbait garbage and become "that guy"
Woah, love the new intro
The ZVS Driver is a typical run of the mill automotive power inverter. Only difference is you got a flyback connected to it. 2n3055 transistors should also work well instead of the MOSFETs but make sure to use a huge heatsink.
@mike van leeuwan - the voice comment you made, im from England - I find his accent intriguing. It's one of the few American accents I cant place. The montone? All these youtubers have a way of making themselves different from the pack, through some oddness or other. Dave Jones at EEVblog wouldn't be half as interesting to listen to where it not for his different quirks. This guy is still quite new. Reminds me of the stuff I used to do at his age, 25 years or so ago!
Hey Keystone Science, I recently ordered the parts to make this driver and they arrived yesterday. I assembled it in midair to test the circuit before I put it on a board. I tried the circuit with the fly back but nothing happens. I also tried it with an induction coil from your other video, still nothing. Any help would me much appreciated with what's wrong. I could send you pictures of it and everything if you need. Thank you for any help.
you are a mad genius! thanks for the videos.
Please make video how to make powerfull Tesla coil.
those flybacks are pretty dangerous.
Hugh Mungus Woot?
Pav Phone ??
+Hugh Mungus french fires are bad for ur health
Hugh Mungus Hugh mungouse lol lol haha so funny on h3h3production
Phat boy BigBooH yeah that's me!
that... flyback... is... *HUGE* !!!!!!!!
I like the new intro !
+KeliMan thanks! It was made by a channel called Tate Storey :D
plz help for my doubts , 1 - can I use gate drive resistor of 1/4 watt or can I use higher value of resistance like 700 ohm or 1kohm because mosfet can turn on with lower current and even on low voltage !!! ? 2 - l c tank is fixed for this ZVS Driver or we can vari cap value more or less than .680 nf ???? And 3 - can I use 60 Vds mosfet instead 200 Vds type if not then why Because primary turn is only about 2 -3 Turn should not genarat such high volt ????!!
The high currents exist in the LC circuit. You should re-wire the capacitor so it is right next to the primary coil.
The person who invented this circuit is Mazilli as it is a Mazilli oscillator
Could you/will you make a video explaining the basics of electronics, principles and what does what?
Damn you channel is growing fast!
Keep up the good work :)
@Keystone Science is it powerfull enough to make lichtenberg figure on a wood? im gonna use 19 v dc laptop power supply at 4 amps...
Of couse =)) if u can do with a microwave transformer you surely can do it with the flyback
you are great. I love very much see you're video s it is very good . thank you for the zvs circuit it help me .I made it(zvs) it worked.also could give us a solution to stop the over heating of IRFP 250N MOSFET's
Aravind Wilson So what is the solution for the over heating Mosfet?
I am the guy wich asked you these on Twitter Thank you so much❤️👍🏻
+Science 007 no problem 007 :D thank you!
Awesome project
Can you use the same zvs driver for induction heater? Nice vid btw.
yo man love it. but couldn't see the current drawn by the zvs driver while you were running it at 32 volt .can you please tell me that
can I use irf450 with water cooling
Hey! when did you originally get into electronics and circuits? How did you learn? you know, besides just messing around with electronics and such.
+Sage Tomb well I guess I have always enjoyed magnets and such, but then a few years ago, ( I know this story sounds stupid but it's true :P ) lighting struck like 10 feet away from me, and I thought it was the coolest thing, so I went home and made a tesla coil xD, for learning it is pretty much just building new things in various categories of electronics to try and familiarize myself better with things.
Do a tour over your workshop
What type of capacitor is that?
oh finally you cleared my Doubt of " FR107 200ns Rrt diode will work or not instead uf4007 20ns that are mentioned in google zvs circuits which i did not get on shop other hand fr107 is easy to find from smps supplys
Really Good Circuit and Video, I enjoy you cannel
Awesome video! Cool new intro
CAME to subscribe from Great Scott and waiting for this video
+Farhaan Iqbal haha awesome !
What has a ZVS driver to do with a burning piece of magnesium? Except of that awesome video!
I think I was quickly looking for a picture of the arc, and that was all I had so I figured it looked close enough 😅
@@KeystoneScience Ok😄. That makes sense. It does almost look like an arc. I first noticed it after watching the video the for fourth time stll trying to get my zvs to work😅.
Can a smaller, cylindrical inductor (100uH) , with many more turns work ?
Thanks
What a dream of a video. Exactly what i wan to know and to see, fast and prfessionla. Iam in heaven, not even joking.
tanks for this video !
i have a question for you.Where do you learn all this?
Mike Haris school
+teodor 7717 i did not learn how to make an arc jumped between wires to heat up the air around it so it will make anything catch fire in school
+teodor 7717 i did not learn how to make an arc jumped between wires to heat up the air around it so it will make anything catch fire in school
Mike Haris well... you can. Depends on what lessons you choose to have
+teodor 7717 oh, I'm still in highschool, so I haven't taken any classes on electricity yet, but everything I know I learn from experimenting and reading books on electronics
woud it be safe to light a joint with this or is the electricity pass through de joint?
the arc jump around 2,5cm (25kv ) .your arc is stretch because your amps.what you say?
Can I use 1n4007 diode?
Nice work !
Oh boy, a new intro?
Also, you seem a bit stressed, could you talking a tad slower?
great vid, looking to build one...just gotta track down an old ctr...not that easy. if i was to buy a flyback transformer...what specs are preferable?
Helpppppp my one one transistor heats up and zvs doesn't work
did you by chance harvest all of these components out of an already made zvs driver?
I have a question what type of safty do you use in most your experiments. I am about to make a big tesla coil my first high voltage experiment and i just want to take precautions before i start testing.
Thank you so much
The person who made the DVS circuit is Vladimiro Mazzilli
Can I use IRFZ44N instead of IRFP260N for making a ZVS driver?
the irfz44n is probably not powerful enough. also the max drain-source voltage of the irfp44n is 55 volt witch is way too low; the inductive spikes from the primary coil will most likely destroy the mosfet very quickly.
You estimated the O/P V to be around 60kV ? Wouldn't that translate into a spark gap jump in air of 5-6 cm ? Arc length is totally different. Besides 60kV should land you in soft X-Ray territory and it sounds nothing like it. I am gonna guess 15-20kV. Not saying it couldn't be lethal.
Either way, still enjoyed the video and learned about ZVS drivers. 👍
Well, i can attempt to predict your future experiments based upon that burn on your finger at 1:08, because i've been burned by a slayer exciter thousands of times, and it looks identical.
Thanks for fixing the sound :)
A bit of advice: to legally cover all of your bases, simply say "Do not try this at home". Do not qualify or further explain this, such as "if you do, be really careful", etc. Just say, straight up, "Do not try this at home". I know it sounds more friendly to qualify it and I'm sure you'll never get into any legal trouble, but it's a good practice for leaving nothing open to interpretation.
+MrRoboticWarfare fair enough, I'll do that in the future , thanks for the advice!
But that aside...
Holy crap man. So much respect for making these videos. Fantastic job all the way through!
so I have to ask, where do you find an irf260n? I am planning on making this and the subsequent induction coil and after experimenting a little, scaling it up and using this in some forging projects.
+Tman Knoll hi, I just bought some off of eBay a while back, I'm still waiting for them to arrive though, so yeah xD let me know if you need help with anything!
I'm trying to get into this stuff any good place to learn the basics?
The "King of Random" did a clip where he made a hydrogen device and another guy made something similar but he turned into a "micro blow torch"... is there a way to put more pressure into the nozzle and make the micro torch shoot a 5inch flame in a straight line?
Yes, there is , it's using basically the set up for a rocket engine that is, a come on the inside, a cone on the outside, and the oxygen and fuel on the inside, there is a channel called nighthawkinlight that made a video kinda about this ( here it is : ruclips.net/video/VI8gdmjEwKc/видео.html ) anyways, is that what you meant ? Anyways another way is basically just outputting more fuel and a little oxygen through a torch, I used to have a class in school where we would use torches , and I would do that sometimes
Hello keystone can you help meand tell me what devices I can find boost converter in it
I dont know why but when I see you "personal" intros by you I imagine a professional but a bit mad scientist who had been chocked through his experiments a bit too much..
What will change....(arc) if I use a 0.33uf cap instead of a0.68 uf cap...will it effect the performance or power.
Doing this way seems more complex but u might try it out!
Can this work in a vacuum? Is there an ideal gas you could use other than the atmosphere (what makes it ideal?)? What happenes if the arc is created in a microwave and turned on? ..... Tearing apart hoarded tv now 😄. Great show!
+David Hyatt it should work in a vacuum, at least theoretically although the arc probably would not be as long. An ideal gas I would probably use is Xenon, ( not only does it look very cool with high voltage, but it is very conductive ) also it is ideal because it's electron orbitals are filled so it's happy where it is at, hydrogen is also pretty coo, to pass high voltage through though. Hmm I think passing microwaves through the plasma arc would amplify it's ionization creating a weird plasma pattern. So yeah, haha. Thanks! :D
Can I use...1N4148..diode for replacement of.. FR107
where did you salvage the MOSFETs from? I made a zvs driver but I didnt have any good MOSFETs so it just gave me shortish purple arcs... still enough to melt my negative terminal...
these mosfets i bought, CRT tvs. the ones i use here are IRFP250N
Ok, thanks! i'll keep a lookout for those, and I've salvaged a ton of CRT tvs so i should be able to use those mosfets.
#keystonescience i realy like you projects greetings from holland
+Martijn O_0 thank you! :D
Hey, I love videos and I'm waiting for more vids in the future, but have a question: can I use 1n4937 instead of fr107?
Byv26e
Cool new intro 👌
+EvilChickenMan thanks! It was made by the channel called Tate Storey :D
:D
Can I use four turns for higher output
what kind of breadboard was that?
this circuit board work also as ZVS induction heater ??
I have that same exact power supply and built this same circuit and it automatically enters Constant Current mode and draws 10 amps and the voltage is around 6VDC. The flyback is giving out a good output though. Mostly small purple arcs around a half an inch. I would like to get it to go to 32 volts but again I can't. Could you maybe help me diagnose my problem?
+JJG Productions huh, do either of your mosfets heat up really fast ( like get really hot ) ?
Keystone Science I have them both on a large heat sink. I have on the back of one of the MOSFETS a plastic isolator that I got off of another MOSFET I salvaged. They don't get too too hot but they get warm.
Will it kill you if you touch it?
Square wave !!!! Or AC
pls tell me name of the diode you use..
AWESOME
Can i use any irf or specific
can I use a batterie car charger for 12v power supply ?
For the ZVS driver
What did you salvage these transistors from?
+Elias Timmons those ones were from previous things I had made, however, you can get ones similar to it inside of CRT tvs
This are the componentes of a zvs Driver Fron ebay
Well yes.
Because it is the same circuit. But the Chinese circuit has worse components
Help please ... i made this but could only get like a centimetre of purple arcs with 12v unlike the arcs shown in the video .... could someone tell me the possible problems ? I tried everthing i could
+Kevin Jacob try a higher voltage , 12 won’t feed the LC resonance that much.
Keystone Science thanks for the help mate ... i fixed it the issue was the capacitor ....😁
Super brother , how to develop these circuits
That circuit looks pretty similar to a high frequency induction heater circuit, which are also quite interesting and suitably dangerous for your channel...
the circuit is the same. only the flyback and the work coil are interchangeable. he actually bought the circuit off ebay and rebuilt it
+Gotin Fuklio yep! Well I bought one off eBay a while back then it broke, so I figured might as well try and fix it ( however tbh it's probably not worth it as it took quite a while to solder all the points nicely enough and they are pretty cheap on eBay )
Keystone Science its no fun to buy stuff. just make sure that you dont copy great scott who buys everything from ebay, glues it in a box and then claims he made it
+Gotin Fuklio hahahahaha xD true
John Scarce but he does make it, and considering he is a power line technician there would be no need wasting money on what you can make yourself.
what did you salvage the mosfet's from?
I mostly get them from CRT TVs, however, I also buy them sometimes
why don't you make the transformer yourself? it's really easy! i have made a lot of them. just don't forget to insulate it or else you will have arcing inside the secondary coil.
very very very very very careful coz this might be the last vid u watch
can I use x-ray transformer
I use the 16a power supply
what will happen if you dont put the capacitor
its well make the frequency more and more so its well blows up
i wish i had all of these electrical components, but i do have a question for you. I need a device that can give me 70 amps 12 V DC with as few components as possible
SuperScience894 They easiest way to accomplish this is to get would to simply use a transformer connected to a wall socket and then rectify the current with some diodes. This isn't a good solution, but likely the simplest.
+SuperScience894 hmm, for that tbh I would just buy a cheap car starter from harbor freight, there like 20$ and can deliver 500A at 12v DC I'm pretty sure
Old server PSUs off of ebay work just fine and can be found for as low as $20 USD. Got 2x 12V 100A ones and a 25A 48V model myself. Not sure if that counts as "as few components as possible" though.
I do have a MOT but I do not have a way of rectifying it
thanks, i guess 100 amps may be too much but if it is i do have some heavy duty resistors from that microwave i salvaged.
Good night can use a 460 resistor instead of 470 homs
Interesting circuit, extremely dangerous though and not something I'd recommend anybody build unless they are full certified, I'd also be using a dead-mans switch in your lab with HV experiments
Well...You can use it as a power supply for a spark gap tesla coil.
Are you sure this gives out more than 30kV?
