I agree, they really lucked out with the cast, and brought a wonderful novel to life. It helped that the original author, Stephen Chbosky, was also its director, which is a rarity!
I'm glad Logan Lerman got to shine as Charlie because I really think he did the best he could in Percy Jackson despite it being a shit movie and that without Perks he might have gone under appreciated
Don't forget Patrick, Erza Miller nailed his role and all of them made the movie 100% even more better. The director certainly deserved a nomination, it's one of the fews highschool YA movies I can relate to. Also the movie helped me a lot when I was a teenager!
They took too much of the substance out of the Paper Towns movie. For example, in the book they have to get to find Margo in a certain amount of time because they’re worried about her safety, but in he movie it’s so they can get in back in time for prom.
John Green is my favorite author and i love his books. I have to agree the book is way better than the film. The Fault in Our Stars should be higher than Paper Towns. I really want Looking for Alaska to be adapted into a film because that's my favorite John Green book.
Too true, no chance is "Paper Towns" better than "TFIOS", even though I liked them both. I felt that the movie missed the point of the book, in that Q discovers that Margo "was not a great mystery. She was a girl", and that he had been chasing an idealized version of her the whole time. However, the film implies that Margo was JUST as Q had pictured her.
Me too, even though the trailer presented it as being a fantasy world come to life a la "The Chronicles of Narnia", the film itself is a somber, heartfelt story about growing up and dealing with loss for the first time.
@@bonniebonnie2104 it deserves to be #1 rather than being relagated to an honorable mention because there is nothing more impactful or timeless than a story about how a strong enough friendship can transecend death itself and while expressing greif joy and the pain of loss in a real natrual way

Paper Towns better than The Fault in Our Stars?! Hahahaha *no freaking way!* At least TFIOS stayed true to the book, while Paper Towns changed so much. The book is so serious and dark sometimes, at one point Quentin really thinks that Margo committed suicide and realized how deeply sad she was, while in the movie it just seems like she ran away because she felt like it and wanted to mess with everyone. In my opinion it's the worst adaptation ever. Holes should’ve been on the list and not an honorable mention. It’s probably the best adapted book to movie I’ve seen when it comes to how close the story and characters are to one another. The only real difference I can think of is Stanley is supposed to be overweight, but he isn’t in the movie.
I agree. I read it in junior high school - in the 1970s - and I STILL re-read it. I re-read it just last month. I loved that my daughters enjoyed it when they read it as well (even if my younger one still tears up when she hears, "Stay Gold, Ponyboy."

While I did like the movie version, I was a tad disappointed that they changed the message of the novel. In the book, Q learns that he never really knew Margo at all, and that he was just chasing an idea of her, not the real her, while the movie implies that Margo really WAS everything that Q had built her up as being.
Where is Stand by Me? That should be number one and any YA movie adaptions should keep it there. Or is it not on the list because it was a short story?
