    Many viewers keep getting the wrong idea about this video. I'm not saying the first location you build your altar at is not good. Just that you might not want to consider it as your "forever or main base" therefore look around first especially early on before committing upgrades. Yes you can map around easily and even gain upgrade materials easily later on, but this first area also already has a free altar here to map back to at any time so feel free to explore and build that base where you like. :)

      Can't you remove your first altar? I guess I haven't tried but does it reset your altar level?

      You can upgrade the altar as you want, they are super cheap even in early game and only cost easy to get materials. The expensive upgrades wich are the Flame Levels are global and shared between all altars. Those are more like "Server Upgades". Also usually you should never place your base near a Jumping Tower since those already act as fast travel points by themselves.

    I think the one thing you get out of spending a little time on the first base and building a little is learning the basic building techniques and being able to let it go when you realize it really isnt good and you would rather spend time building up a beautiful location. We built up Woodgard. Its gorgeous. The church is our crafting hall and we have rebuilt it mostly. Its epic and the tudor style house is our house. The farm land is there to farm. The well is right there in harvest homestead. Then when you are able too you can put in wells for easy access. Its an amazing game. Im loving it. Also looking forward to unlocking all the materials to be able to rebuild it. Its a very fun thing and you feel like you are restoring Woodguard to its former glory. We had to expand the flame shrine as much as possible to include most of the church. Id recommend putting your flame shrine about 20' closer to the church than right next to the existing flame spot to encompass all the church when your flame shrine is fully expanded.

    The best second Base location is further north West. There is a tavern called the green goblet or something. Drop an alter in it, and it's instant comfort level 26 without placing anything else. Plenty of room for everything across multiple floors etc 👌

    While I can understand why you'd want to do this to some degree - I prefer having the wide open space of the plains to start with. From there, I slowly build up my base and place down altars further afield in each direction to build smaller outposts that still have the main tools I'll need. This lets me travel to each cardinal direction far more quickly and still allows me to have my main (And beautified) base in the plains.

It being at the top of a mountain there aren't many resources, but (it being on top of a mountain) I can quickly paraglide to any area that has resources quickly. It also being so high up has one of the best views in the game. I'm still like early game.

Now that I've built a well I have water plus all the other stuff.
      If a well is a must-have for you, you can make a base at Harvest Homestead right after unlocking the first spire. Farmhouse with good comfort level, extra buildings for workers, a well, farm plots, shroud resources, and respawning loot chests are all very close by. Play any way you like but I think it beats the start location in just about every respect.

      @@scotte4765 Outside of easy well access as someone mentioned, it's actually a large location (and mostly flat area), and builders can even build up Longkeep. I'm personally still making a huge base at location 1 just for that reason. There are Flame Altars enough, so there are time and resources enough to build multiple bases (for the sake and fun of it). Also if you get the Spires and drop down some well placed Altars in the world, you can fast-travel to a lot of locations anyway.

      Harvest Homestead can be reached in one glider flight after you unlock the first spire, and it has all of the above plus more: multiple buildings with comfort furniture, a well, plots with farm soil, plenty of buildable space, access to shroud resources, and respawning loot chests in nearby structures. Everyone should play how they like, and you're right about multiple bases, but on a one-to-one comparison Harvest Homestead beats the start location in almost every respect.

    @scotte4765 11 месяцев назад +1

    Not sinking a lot of time and resources into the starter base is great advice overall, but you make it sound like shroud cores (for altar size upgrades) and other early resources are hard to come by, when they are not, even at early levels.
    A good argument can be made for staying at the starter location until level 8-10 or so, because then you will be able to safely scout out and take over locations even farther out than the hilltop you suggested, such as Fort Kelvin, the Goblet Tavern, or other forest locations close to clay, copper, and other tier 2 resources.
    Anyway, good video in general. Just don't imply that building a lot at the first location is some colossal mistake, because the game is very forgiving with both travel and resources.

    Base location makes basically no difference in this game at present. You can drop a flame altar just for a fast travel point and since there are zero penalties to fast traveling, at least at this stage of development, there’s no need to have a base in a particular spot. Usually games like this will have encumbrance penalties linked to fast travel So having spots close to resources or loot areas is useful. Since you don’t have that worry here all you need is a fast travel spot to get you near key areas of the map, where your base is doesn’t matter.

    • @CasaBLACK
      @CasaBLACK  Год назад

      It doesnt matter, but at the same time for those players who are used to setting up a first base as soon as they start it's almost a waste of time to set up one so close to the beginning which also has a free shrine right there in the starter cave. The point being this game is different and you dont have to nuts with that first altar.

    Why even use that first location to eat up a flame alter slot to begin with? You can just use the start area for a fast travel if you REALLY need to go back to that area for some reason. After you have the glider you don't even need to run through the cave anymore, just jump off right at the start and you're at the plains. I'd suggest people just extinguish the flame on that first alter and use it at a location you really need a fast travel node at.
