- As an artist, when you're posting on your social media and you can't get past the dreaded 200 views mark, it can be completely disheartening and make you want to quit.
The key to getting more views on TikTok/Instagram (and therefore more streams on Spotify) is upping your view retention when editing your videos, which I'm going to show you in a hands on tutorial now.

Hey! I’m Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is de ply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my RUclips channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, RUclips channel and Social Agency.

This ties in with what you’ve spoken about in your book “Stop Selling Music” and some Podcast interviews you’ve done. Making lots of quality content consistently, persistently and frequently - is the key. (That, and improving just a little bit every time you do it.)
I can see how CapCut makes it super fast and easy to do this. Some of these features (like the retain skin tone) Are really awesome.
There’s just one thing I wish you showed us, and that’s how the video turned out in the end. I would have liked to see, in action, how the video grabbed and held our attention. Also, how well the features you used actually works in motion (not just a preview still image)
That being said, it was still a helpful video as always and a tool I never knew about before now, so thanks a mil!
I’ll bear that in mind for next time for sure!! The retain skin tone is a really interesting feature as normally elsewhere you’d need to manually make sure it’s ok and this makes it a lot easier

As an artist with ADHD (I mean, what artist DOESN'T have ADHD 🤪), I know myself and I'll instantly scroll past content if there aren't captions. But even with captions these days, I'll STILL scroll past if it isn't catapulting my kitty brain into a dopamine haven with quick cuts, cool transitions, effects and filters. I like the video 😜 - nah just kidding. This is a really helpful & informative vid - I use Final Cut on my Mac for my videos & CapCut on my phone to do lyric shorts for TT. Definitely going to use this method more for future releases, but for me it’s just knowing what on earth to say that will grip people as I struggle with how to introduce them without the boring done to death ‘hi’ 🤣
I'd love to see another video where you analyse some successful musicians's reels/tik tok to come up with other suggestions on how to increase retention time :)

🧢✂️ is great! So many pro features easily accessible, although I still struggle to get more views I kinda feel like it's just me that likes my songs, haven't found the right audience yet.
There’s a lot you can do with SEO to help the video reach the right people, which helps more so if you’re in a specific niche. I’d look into the text you’re using both on screen and in the caption to try and put in those keywords
How can I use my music without beying flaged? Every time I try to do before release promo Tic toc mute my music.
Try and use under a minute, this tends to be what it is!
Do you address how to do this and avoid copyright issues? I mean it's one thing when you create these videos on IG or TikTok where it uses the official track, but when you're doing it the "old fashioned" way where the music is playing on a separate device or you're loading say an Mp3 in a separate program, doesn't that trigger copyright infringement?
I've asked this question on many videos, too--no one seems to have that answer. I've emailed two top distributors, including the one I use...same thing. No one knows. They all say to use the your track that's been added to the app's library from your distributor. Great--but all these how-to videos about "batching content" and singing your song live in snippets etc....that won't work if it gets a strike or gets muted.
So, the audio counts as a view? Im confused 😕

Anyone know the answer to this question--I see all these videos on how to batch content based on an artist's song. They mention singing live snippets of the release...just 15 seconds or whatever in an interesting place. But you can't do that without getting a copyright strike! So are these videos about batching content featuring the artist doing live clips of the upcoming song/new release just clickbait? No one seems to address this on videos, so I'm beginning to wonder.

This is amazing, and very valuable......but 5 minutes!?! I think that would take most of us more like 50 minutes
Our reels have the 100-200 view curse. Our shorts usually do great though, but July wasn't a great month.
Try and work on your SEO and context when someone scrolls, the context tells someone what they’re gonna get and the keywords on screen and in the caption help tell the platform where to push it
@@DamianKeyes we do hardcore SEO for our shorts like hashtags, tagging, description, etc. and we use sensationalised titles in all caps. The context is usually there in the title itself, do you think we should start doing it on camera as well. We've rarely tried that.
For reels we just use 6-9 hashtags and a concise 1 line caption.
Hi Damian! I struggle getting more than 1000 views on tiktok. It seems that sometimes a video will blow up to 1000 views real quick and then suddenly STOP after about 30 minutes. I also am unsure if videos have to be very short or not. I suspect the main ingredient is the attention grabber either way. One last thing; my hardest struggle is coming up with content ideas. Although I’ve watched your 28 day courses and other videos, I am just stumped when it comes to content ideas.
