- Hey everyone! Since we did a deep dive review on my channel for the Arcade1Up Marvel Pinball Machine in this video follow-up for the Attack From Mars Machine we have this as more of a condensed review.
Here in the United States we are still waiting the mass release of the Arcade1Up Attack From Marsh Pinball Machine so I had to go through the Buy Stuff Store in Canada to get my hands on a Unit. I received it about a week ago and have tested it and tried it out for several days. Although I was a little disappointed in the Arcade1Up Marvel Pinball Machine, some slight items make the Arcade1Up Attack From Marsh Pinball Machine a better purchase if you are interested in these Zen Studios and Arcade1Up Pinball Machines which I cover in this video review.

I'll have a separate video posted for extended gameplay for all the games. I blame MichaelB The Game Genie for making me buy another Arcade1Up Pinball Machine - However, I do like this one more than the Marvel Machine, but there are just a lot of opportunities for improvement IMO for both Zen Studios and Arcade1Up and a lot of it is small stuff IMO that I hope to see on Generation 2 Pinball Machines they release. Let me know what you guys think of the 3 Machines you have seen so far now that they are out there in the field a bit.
Very good review! I think I’m going to contain my FOMO and wait for the next generation to see what they fix. Hope I’ll be able to get a lot of the same tables though on the next generations with improvements.
Pdubs I have an issue. Every time I calibrate my plunger 🪠 , my ball trails get turned on. Also please push these companies to create a 120hz premium panel with a soc capable of outputting rock solid 120fps. That’s when I’ll buy one of these things.

This actually looks pretty sweet but something in the back of my mind keeps saying wait till wave 2 LOL
kudos to your journalistic integrity Dubs, Thank you for listing the good and bad. Whitewater plays ultra-fast almost sped up. The jaggedness on some tables is rough. I think when they come out with a 2.0 version it will kick ass.
I always try in my reviews to point out the pros and the opportunities for improvement.
Can’t wait to get mine! It has problems, but those games are too good to pass up. C’mon - three of the top rated pinballs of all time! The atgames tables are too old and generic and boring compared to this. All that teeter tech means nothing if the games on it are trash. Too bad farsight didn’t still have the license to Williams/Bally. They did a greater job than zen, and they work with atgames.
I pointed out those pros (the games) in the video. Also pointed out once you start playing the machine a lot of the tech issues fall into the back of your mind. However doesn't mean those issues should be accepted and ignored and not addressed. Hope Arcade1up improves these products down the road.

ALP isn't perfect but has less issues.

Paying for a 1080 screen and getting a 1080 screen and only able to play in 720 due to there lack of a 1080 p output is unacceptable in my book! Way to cheap out on us Arcade 1up
Maybe they rushed and couldn't get it going on the hardware, IDK, it's confusing
I'd be really interested to know how much more a better PCB would have added to the cost to run these games at 1080p. $50...$100? I think a lot of ppl would have paid extra given the choice.

Either use better hardware or optimize the hardware they are using better.
The dmd isn't washed out. It just looks that way cuz you are looking down on it. Look at it straight on. Its a big difference.
Had the camera pointed directly at it dead on...did not look so good and definitely doesn't look good while playing. It's the same on the marvel.
BTW PDub, these are not licensed games, they are all in house creations by Williams/Bally. (Attack from mars may be the exception, but shouldn't add much) The other big Williams/Bally games, like The addams Family, Twilight Zone etc, require new license agreements, so Gen 2 games may have a lot less than 10 games included per cabinet.

I’m loving my AFM and play it daily. Yes, the screen would be better if it was bigger and at a higher resolution but overall I think for the price I paid I got way more than my moneys worth. The build quality is great and it looks incredible - Definitely a centrepiece in my home Arcade. Three of the tables on here are very good (AFM, Arabian Nights and Medieval Madness) and I love the digital Pinball experience so much I ordered a Legends Pinball as well, especially after seeing your gameplay of the Zaccaria tables. Working my way towards a Retro Play virtual pin!

Great review, I am planning on getting one when they go on sale in the US. At games is probably better, but at the end of the day, the Williams tables are much better than the gottlieb and zacarraia games imo.

Thanks for sharing this with us. I always like to hear your opinion on this stuff before buying it. See! I bought the seated OutRun without hearing your opinion first. Not a good result for me at first especially. LOL would be nice to see them address some of these concerns with their second wave. Hope that you guys get an update for these machines to better them.

Likewise Atgames released ALP with horrid exciters tied to backbox amp. Consequently they blow day 1 out of the box

I am eagerly awaiting my Attack from Mars machine to arrive here in Tasmania. I foolishly ordered it through EB Games, who for some reason use their own shipping scheme, so it was shipped from the warehouse in Melbourne up to EB Games' warehouse in Brisbane, then back down to Melbourne where it goes on a ship to Tasmania. Meanwhile, I ordered my Star Wars pinball through a different site so it was shipped directly from the Melbourne warehouse and arrived at my door over a week ago. When Attack From Mars arrives, we still have to drive an hour to EB Games in the city and somehow fit it into our little coupe for the ride back home. But damn I reckon it'll be worth it! I'm sad that White Water doesn't work, I played on the real machine last year when I went to Hobart to pick up an arcade machine from a guy who had quite an impressive collection of arcade junk.

Me too. The 720p and small screen really kill the A1Up pins for me. I think they would give AtGames a run for their money though, if they did two things - make a bigger screen and allow more tables to be added.
Okay I have a legitimate question? I’m 12 years old and I absolutely love pinball. I have a machine of my own that I love, it’s an amazing machine from 1972 gottlieb. But I really love attack from Mars and medieval madness. Does anyone think that I should buy this machine or not? I don’t want to spend a ton of money on a digital machine but I just want one that can play AFM and MM. Anyways let me know what you think that I should do.

@@daviddeming1916 - Zen just announced that they are not releasing anymore tables to their FX3 platform (all future new tables will only be available for the new FX platform based on the Unreal graphics engine); so a 2nd generation of Arcade1UP cabs could be 18 months to two years away and cost over a thousand dollars. That is, if Zen continues to provide the software.
I have the Marvel and AFM tables. As a novice pinball player (besides the 80/90s) I’m really enjoying them. My AFM lcd screen was even broken upon arrival. New screen will be here Friday.

Bottom Line - these Arcade1up Pinball Machines are a good first attempt by Zen and Arcade1up, but not great.
Just got mine Friday. It was the Marvel. I wanted the mars attacks but the Marvel looks much better in person than I thought it would. The stock games are terrible. Even my wife said "I can't see the ball". Anyway, got FX3 and VPX running on it and it is a different beast. I highly recommend it for modding.

Just a random thing I noticed, the nut on the adjustable feet should be threaded all the way up. It is a jam not that stops the feet from slowly lowering from vibration.

Nice review pdubs. I'm playing the waiting game for now but will be extremely tempted if they do a universal one. Im definitely getting some more cabs this year though.
A Universal Machine would be great provided they improve all the known issues.

My Legends Pinball arrives tomorrow. I have A1up AFM but I am more excited for the Legends Pinball.
But, I've played this every time I went play zones like FunPlex in the year 1998. Even though the game came out in the mid-'90s. :]
dropped the ball on this arcade it looks grey washed not colorfull and bright really dispotined in them

PDubs, keeper of the vpin machines!! Lol awesome stuff man. Atleast the 1ups are nice to look at. Both are great looking for the most part. Been looking in Phx for anything. Nada. Guess I'm stuck waiting for wave 4 action. But feeling this will be delayed with my discussion with Atgames, we'll see. Desktop pc with vertical monitor for the time being.
The AtGames Pinball machines are online only not sold in stores at this time.
@@PDubsArcadeLoft yeah I know, just been missing the mark online lol. The Sam's club units were "Wave 0" and will continue to get more. I was soo close lol I had in my twice, separate days.. Just would get the sorry this item is out of stock message when I hit that final checkout button. They go fast. Will keep trying.
Good Review. Thanks for your honest opinion on the GOOD...and the BAD. I'm holding out for Gen 2...which should include fixes to the DMD (washed out) + 1080p graphics (at 60fps) and processing power to properly render graphics at 1080p/60fps + 31/32 inch Monitor + fix to "White Water" (I had the actual table for 10 years so being non-functional is a deal-breaker to me). BONUS would be a Monitor to display changing Backbox Graphics for each game (ala @Games Pinball).
While these look great, the game play shortcomings you pointed out turns me off.

Thank you for pulling no punches in your latest reviews. You've really come a long way and I look forward and benefit from your opinions on these products.
It seems like everything Arcade1up has released after Star Wars has had some sort of glaring issue. It's like they hit the top of the mountain, trying to live up to their words of passion for these products, and now seem content to go back and phone it in. That makes me sad.
I hope Arcade1up can step up like ToyShock did, maybe provide not just a firmware update to fix White Water, but provide a better PCB to make everything run at 1080p, 60fps. OK, that's fantasy land, but Arcade1up needs to do something big in order to gain my trust back (I know that's not even a blip on their agenda). I think AtGames and iiRcade may just pick up the "home arcade" ball and run with it :)

It looks like a amazing product to enter the market for a first attempt And for the price It's great, and its going to introduce a lot of younger kids into an older games That otherwise might not have took interest in pinball. And the vinyl graphics look epic. And hopefully somebody down the road someone comes up with A 1080p output PCB. replacement. 💥💥💥🔫👽👍
You know these games are on the switch for like $2? Kids have had access to them for about 20 years on console now

You always do a Great job of pointing out the pros and cons. but nowadays it's hard to find toys this cool to even purchase ,and It sucks it that last table is unplayable though.but i think the cabinet was rushed because everybody is clamouring For pinball. I'm hoping I can get my hands on one soon. I have the Marvel and Star Wars but this is the one I'm looking forward to most. I just checked and it looks like 576 shipments for AFM just landed in the US yesterday, going to Cokem, which deals with Best Buy. I have one sitting in my cart just waiting to checkout.

@@markushughes2460 to my knowledge newer stock has the update already in it but if you bought the machine a couple years ago you'll need to manually do it
Here in Canada and adding taxes, it's $918, so it's a tougher buy for a 24" with 720P play.
Why is there a vertical black bar on the right side of the DMD? I tought my DMD was defective until i saw that everybody 's DMD was the same. Anybody know the answer?

I really wish they had offered a regular and pro models. Something like adding a more powerful device to output 1080p and maybe wifi for leaderboards. It's really a downgrade after playing these or consoles or pc. If they ever offered some kind of PCB trade in, I would jump on it for sure. It's a shame cause hardware is so nice.
The default high score are the same then the original pinball machine 😜

Part of me wonders if we will see future Pinball Machine collaborations between Zen and Arcade1Up due to the polarizing reception on this first wave. But, we shall see and Zen has plenty of IP's and Tables for Arcade1Up to pick from.
Taller legs powder coated green along with the bezel would be sweet.
Man pdubs I got the starwars p inbal and I have the toyshock as well. I did not notice lag on the toyshock until I played starwars pinball then went to toyshock. Man toyshock is really slow compared to starwars. I'm still waiting for updated board for toyshock and hope it helps the speed. Hopefully arcade1up can fix the dmd and the whitewater in the future. Worth 600 bucks? They should be 499 but I'm still paying 600 for attack from mars so blame me..lol

I think I'm confused, if the display can output at 1080p then why is it set to 720p with no ability to adjust it. That sounds...strange to me. Maybe for performance reasons but I still find that unlikely. Any thoughts?
How can they offer a firmware update if it doesn't have wifi?
Has a micro USB port on the PCB to flash a new firmware that's how they've updated firmware on several arcades so far, same thing.

Great video Pdubs, as always :) I can't get it though, how does 1UP gets away with their crap all the time? They shouldn't release this in this state. Do they even test their own products? Most of the tables seem to have mediocre graphics with lots of aliasing and on top of that, one of the tables is not even playable. Have they even fixed that?
They won't do a firmware fix because they don't care. Let's be realistic, it's not worth their time.
That would be very very very upsetting if that is the case.
These should be $400 tops with all these issues. $600 is ridiculous.
Legends pinball is byfar superior to anything else out there and it will be even better once we get a easy way to load it with over 1k games like the alu
Are you going to make an update video on this pinball machine since many of the problems you addressed here have now been fixed a few months ago?
No reason to. We've talked about all the Pinball Updates done to the Arcade1up Products a dozen times over in our podcast shows.

Any recommendations for brands of replacement buttons?
I wouldn't compare these to original pinball machines. This is something that could only exist now. It's very cool that we can have these in our homes.
For $600 there is no reason to buy a A1U. All you need is the ALP and a PC along with a little ingenuity.

Michael B the Game Genie is just too much of a shill for A1up. How he can recommend a machine with 9/10 tables working is beyond me. And why would A1up make an update and fix it when youtubers like him tell us to shut up and like it or not buy it.
Only interested in the AtGames pinball. Looks great though.

Is the Marvel better?
I like them, but their price point is too high for what you get when you compare them to what you get with the ATGames. If the ATGames didn’t exist then it’d be a good deal, but that’s not the case. They’re going to have to be marked down for me to purchase one of them over the other.
exactly correct. atgames coming in at $600 just shows how out classed 1up is in this space.
No doubt Arcade1up has bigger licenses but the experience leaves you "wanting more".

These three cabinets are not worth it period, people are going to be forced to sell them in 2 years and have buyer remorse on these just like the gen 1 stand up cabs. $600 a pop is a lot of money for 9 games that don’t perform great.
They have plenty to improve on for Generation 2.
@@soggykid5580 yeah your right not forced wrong word but you know what I mean. I’m talking about when 1up did their gen 1 SF cabs MK cabs then later down the line as better version of it came later then people were selling off their older cabs. We’ve seen it with Pac-Man , marvel etc

I love pinball! But I can't imagine paying all that money & dealing with flipper delays!!! One game so bad it's unplayable!!! How can they not get this right in 2021??? Never ever will get one until they at least try to put out a playable machine with no delay! Huge delay I hear on nudging! Don't give them a dime for such crap!!! The rest of arcade 1up is great & I have 6 machines & 2 more planned at this point. Just very disgusted at them for this pinball fail!!

Got one. Returned it. Graphics are bad. Looks like a PSP game. Too bad. Because the design of the machine is great. Solenoids are very weak too.
