Great video, you are brave to cut that large of log as an amateur! I own a large commercial sawmill. There is very little market for oak or any other hardwood currently. Not many mill owners would consider cutting logs from an unknown source either (due to the possible presence of metal in the log). Side note: chainsaw felling dogs are a throwback reference to the metal ‘dogs’ used on a sawmill log carriage to secure a log for cutting (not a canine’s teeth, lol).

My heart breaks when I see a man cutting a beautiful oak tree for firewood. I once had a beautiful oak in my yard, and I cut it down for firewood, which I now consider my biggest mistake. Oak can be crafted into stunning furniture and is one of the highest quality woods for both indoor and outdoor use.
Using oak for firewood isn’t the best choice, as it takes a long time to dry and burns less cleanly than ash or beech due to the tannins in oak. Instead of cutting a beautiful oak log into firewood, it would be much wiser to mill it into boards for personal use or to sell for a good price. With the money from selling the oak, you could buy better-quality firewood. In the long run, selling the log will yield more firewood than if you had simply turned it into firewood yourself.
