- In this video I take a piece of Birch Burl and turn a Natural Edge Bowl you wouldn't get much soup in it , but it looks pretty cool ..
I finished the piece with Danish oil ..

Whoa - the visual effect at 3:50 is mesmerizing!! Beautiful bowl, I always love things with the natural edge.
I was thinking the same thing
Agree.
Agreed
This is the first vid that Andy has done that I've had to rewind mid-view just to watch that effect again. I usually watch start to finish.
@@thescreamingcelt1671 Exactly - me too!
With the right precautions , that'd make a beautiful candle holder. It would reflect the warm glow of a slow burning candle quite nicely.
The visibility through the side was really cool!
If it doesn't hold soup, it's art.
Love the natural edge 💕 beautiful work. Perfect for a cornucopia display
Just when I think you can't top yourself again, you make this masterpiece.
And at 4:40, that tool finish, oh. my. God. I hope y'all out out there appreciate the Steph Curry level of skill it takes to do that.
I sometimes think Andy wants to convert woodturning into an extreme sport
Lmao right. I get skiddish on anything over 5 inches deep, much less out of balance.
@@matthewharvey8755 That's because you are sensible.
@@delcat8168 I think it's due to the fact that I got a concussion from a 4x7 beer mug, no stabilizer... Thank God for the face shield, otherwise I'd have a crooked nose.
@@matthewharvey8755 I had a piece of walnut blow up on me yesterday. Took most of it right in the face shield.
@@rossthomas7425 that's what the mug was made of to!
When you first started, even though you trimmed that piece up quite a bit with that chainsaw, I thought it was going to be TOO wobbly to be able to turn that thing, but I was happy to see I was wrong. HA! Also, I wasn't sure about the appeal of the piece until you applied the Danish Oil in the end. That completely changed/improved the character and appearance of the piece. As usual, another work of art.
It never ceases to amaze me, Andy, how you select what seems a highly unlikely specimen of raw material (to my untrained eye) and magically convert it into a stunning, eye-catching work of art. Brilliant!
Love the look of the natural edge. Beautiful piece like always. Thank you for sharing.
Turning the inside of the bowl: I believe Andy has discovered how to turn a bowl in a parallel universe while standing comfortably in this one. Sorcery! Also, this bowl serves soup (through the hole) while you're filling it. ;) Actually, it would be outstanding for a flower arrangement (with its own hidden container).
Wait while I get my thesaurus so that I don’t have to repeat myself! Definitely running out of appropriate adjectives to describe your work and do it justice. Suffice it to say, I love this piece.
The eye you have for a chunk of wood is amazing. Some day I'm going to try my hand at this.
Mate, your hollow form work is sublime, thank you for sharing!💓🙏
Holy smoke , now that i quit having chest pain watching. That is some mighty fine turning !
props to you for having the balls to have your hand inside it as it spun, i saw it grazing over your hand and was like "this is where i would have hand sanded/carved" and going no no no on the fear of it hitting your arm
So beautiful, the wood just glows like gold!
I was blown away when you added the Danish oil, I didn't see a hint of woodgrain before that, beautiful art piece Andy!!!
Your skill and artistry are showing. ;)
Love watching your magic. Thank you!
Andy, absolutely love the shape and finish! Thanks for sharing.
I was mesmerized watching you create this...beautiful work sir!
Beautiful turning. Love the natural edge.
Andy,
One of the little things for me during lockdown has been when I get that notice of a new vid from your channel. I can't get enough of live edge pieces, this one really 'does it' for me...most excellent. Watching Shokunin at work at the end of my day...thank you brah.
Thanks 👍
I look forward to ever video because I know that I am going to be amazed again! Your talent gets better and better! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! Such joy 😊

Amazing turn! My right forearm would have ended up on the opposite side of the shop. You’re a brave man!
You’ve had to be think please don’t explode! True craftsmanship + luck = that beautiful bowl. Bravo
Love it! The contrast form the edge to the rest is striking and my favorite part.
I know how difficult it is to turn a piece of wood like this, but you make it look sooo easy. Nice work
Thanks

It looks like the cradle to some kind of fantastic Dragon’s egg!!!
What a great piece, beautiful!
Wonderful! As soon as you finished your piece, I immediately pictured a miniature house and scenery inside the bowl, with wonderful flowing water features 'leaking' out the natural edge! Fine work as always, for sure.
