@Kathryn Rovito and @Jayavishnu she releases every part after one another and she will finish it it just takes a while for each part to come out. The reason why these take so long is because of the fact she has to read and animate for other things on the channel, so this only gets worked on for a small portion of her time. Not to mention she cuts out some of the story as it's very episodic (not saying those parts are bad, in fact they're quite the contrary) and then animate in the little time she has.

Remember kids, if you and a group of friends are out for a walk on the mountain and you happen to see any tied up red orphans or impossibly beautiful women who keeps dying and coming back, just keep on walk and stay on track!
Yeah it's a pretty popular trick used by bandits, they have one of them who look the least suspicious to pretend to be in need of help (like their carriage broke down) and lure unsuspecting travellers into their trap. Even better if the bait is a beautiful woman (working with the bandits) cause not only does she appear innocent but she could also lure those who aren't actually charitable but are attracted by her beauty. That's why you have many old stories (from different cultures) telling you to be suspicious of beautiful women in shady places (like in a forest or on a road far from town).
In fact, Sun Wukong is not afraid of fire, but of smoke. When Sun Wukong was placed into Laozi’s Alchemy Furnace, he hid in the position of "巽," which protected him from being burned. However, in the Bagua, “巽” represents wind, and the wind blew smoke into his eyes, injuring them and turning them into his "golden-gaze fiery eyes." These eyes allowed him to see through demons, but also made him vulnerable to smoke. In Journey to the West, Sun Wukong's eyes were twice harmed by smoke, during the battles with the Yellow Wind Demon and the Red Boy.

We don't know what happened to Red Boy after this.Maybe he ended up becoming Kuan Yin's slave. Maybe he reconciled and started crashing in his dad's basement. Maybe he revealed he was a girl the whole time and spent millennia learning about other cultures' legends and folklore to one day tell the masses about them through videos. We just don't know.
He stays Kuan Yin's little page boy and you can see him cameoed in some Folk paintings beside Kuan Yin, along a dragon girl who also turned into Kuan Yin's servant after being saved by Red Boy from shenanigans, as legend goes.
Red Boy is based on Sudhana (Ch: Sancai), whose spiritual journey is told in the 'Gandavyuha Sutra' (c. 3rd-cent.). The youth sets out on a quest towards enlightenment and trains under 52 different teachers, including Maitreya, Avalokiteśvara (the South Asian variant of Guanyin), Manjusri, and Samantabhadra. This is why he becomes Guanyin's disciple in the novel. As stated by a previous person, this explains why some religious paintings include a small praying child standing next to the Bodhisattva.
I rewatch these episodes a bunch and realize just how much subtle character development goes on. like Piggsy actually helping, the one that really stands out is Sun wukongs rush to take a blow for Guan Yin think about it, he has no reason to do this. she's not tripitaka and its not his job to help her but he does so anyway because that's just what he does now!

Interesting fact: The Bull Demon King is the inspiration for Bowser. Originally, Shigeru Miyamoto wanted the villain of _Super Mario Bros._ to be an anthropomorphic bull in reference to the _JttW_ character, but when it was pointed out to him that a bull being king of a bunch of turtles didn’t make a lot of sense thematically, he decided to change him into a giant turtle with a few bull-like features to maintain the connection. That’s why Bowser has bull horns and a snout instead of a turtle beak.
Man, Journey to the West really does know how to tie-in previously established powers and people. And people say Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover...
I mean, Red Boy, aka Hong Hai Er, aka, Kougaiji (YES, Saiyuki fans, THAT Kougaiji), is basically a fan fic backstory for the Hindu figure named Sudhana, the assistant to Avalokitesvara (aka Guanyin's original Hindu MALE self). @@thephlophers Actually, this was explained in the opening chapters. Wukong, Bajie, Wujing and Dragon Horse could very easily fly Tripitaka to the Western Heavens, but there is a literal "it is the journey, not the destination" that has to happen. If our heroes did not travel by mortal means, they would never encounter and overcome all the demons and calamities along the way and in doing so, pacify the mystical evils along the way. Similar to how the labours of Heracles low-key explains why all the monsters are gone, Jouney to the West has our heroes eliminate all the demonic threats along the silk road between the Tang, Central Asia, and India (aka the known Chinese world). There is also an allegory and Pro Chinese propaganda in it too, where in overcoming many of the threats along the way, our heroes from Tang China bring peace to the lands they travel through.
Ok, I know it's been 3 years but can we acknowledge how cute it is that the Bull demon king cares so much about his son to never shut up about his birthday?
Uh yes... I am the local patrol handling the shapeshifting demon attacks... like--an official or whatever... we uh... have this totally in order and in line. You do not need to let anybody else know about this. We... uh... have this under control... and stuff.
Good question. My guess is that this was such a wide influence that some execs would think it's too cliched even for them, or arrogantly assume that they've refined these tropes into perfect molds that far surpass their sources. Would love to a pure* journey to the west anime though. Well handled, it would basically be the former heavyweight reborn to inspire their successors once more.
There are already enough of those animes and movies, besides, this book is just too familiar for everyone, a 10 years old can tell the complete story line.
This is legitimately a fantastic series to watch, this episode was really cool to have been able to see some of Son's real bits of character development
Fun fact someone pointed out, but in the cartoon Monkey Kid, they drop a LOT of nods to the original JTTW including Red Son (Red Boy) punching himself to activate his Samadi fire in a flashback. Some events and characters are shuffled around in MK from the original story but overall it actually is pretty close to the orginal and sort of creates its own AU canon. It gets lost in all the action, adventure, and jokes but there is a subtle undertone of Sun-Wu Kong by the point MK starts having grown to really miss his friends and traveling companions since being super immortal he has outlived all of them. Oh they also make a cut-off reference to that time he picked a fight with Budda.
Fun fact, Moksha - Quan Yin's disciple, is Prince Nezha's older brother. They also have an eldest brother named Jinzha, who is the disciple of another Buddha. Their family's own mythology - which is also Nezha's origin story - is pretty insane and interesting that Red should totally cover one day.
Man, I wish more stories that tried to rip off the Journey to the West formula did it like this. Everyone's good and bad decisions actually made sense for their characters, Monkey needed help to save the day, and it was SUPER fun to see Kuan Yin get involved. Dayum, NEVER piss off a Boddhitsava. @@rahulrai7910 I think the whole point behind Tripitaka is that he is a selfless and honorable person: Trap or not, he must help those that appear in need of help, he literally has the 4 bodyguards(including horse dragon) to protect him when his kindness leads him into a trap. He could not complete his journey if he ignored the pleas of someone begging for help. He's much more akin to the "Too kind for his own good" trope over just being a stupid guy...

To be fair it's actually a good warning because bandits love using bait to lure people.
南巢 was that the cave demon that blinded him with the wind?

We don't know what happened to Red Boy after this.Maybe he ended up becoming Kuan Yin's slave. Maybe he reconciled and started crashing in his dad's basement. Maybe he revealed he was a girl the whole time and spent millennia learning about other cultures' legends and folklore to one day tell the masses about them through videos. We just don't know.
Just Some Guy with a Mustache oh hey it’s you
He stays Kuan Yin's little page boy and you can see him cameoed in some Folk paintings beside Kuan Yin, along a dragon girl who also turned into Kuan Yin's servant after being saved by Red Boy from shenanigans, as legend goes.
Red = red boy confirmed???
I feel like this guy with a moustache is justin Y. 's rivalry.
Man, the rambling plot, the false starts. This story was long ass anime before it was a thing.
And yet the complete lack of a brooding counter-opposite rival or thoroughly pointless romantic subplot keep elevating it above and beyond.
But it doesn't have any fan service or any real big busty females or men that never ware shirts, giant tentacles fan service, girl on top of girl, suggestive charter or item design.
@@bennelson7020 It's more based on the drawings but most deities in these myths are actually THICC, men included.

D’ya think he’s got the ancient equivalent of photos of his son in his wallet?

@@thephlophers
Actually, this was explained in the opening chapters.

Hearing this, it makes me wonder why there wasn’t a pure “Journey to the West” anime?
Good question. My guess is that this was such a wide influence that some execs would think it's too cliched even for them, or arrogantly assume that they've refined these tropes into perfect molds that far surpass their sources. Would love to a pure* journey to the west anime though. Well handled, it would basically be the former heavyweight reborn to inspire their successors once more.
There kinda is one: "Saiyuki: journey to the west", it's takes big liberties but its kinda fun to watch.
Amount of "filler", would be my guess.
There are already enough of those animes and movies, besides, this book is just too familiar for everyone, a 10 years old can tell the complete story line.
It's clearly inspired Dragonball. Goku is based on Sun Wu Kong and Pigsy is Oolong and Sandy is Yamcha

#2:it will almost always be too powerful for you to see.
#3:it will turn into someone who needs our help in order to kidnap tripitaka
#4:DO NOT HELP HELP ANYONE WHEN CROSSING THE MOUNTAIN.
Tripitaka would have forgotten about it anyways, given the past experience he seems to not be smart
@@Ruleradminius he believed everything pigsy lied about sun wukong 😑
"A metric f* ton of swords," eh?
Let's see, assuming an average weight of about 4.5 lbs per sword, covert to metric, and the answer is...
Oh. Oh my.
Well, that butt is basically gone. They'll be calling him Red Boy for a whole different reason after this.
(The answer is 500 if anyone is wondering)
Thank you good sir
