I know plenty of versions shown here, but this was still very interesting to watch. Especially when it came to the Japan & China portions. Like, Japan mostly stopped being even partially faithful after the 80's (Boku No Son Goku/My Son Goku aside) & Chinese Animation mostly took a big dip within the 00's to early 10's & then rise back up after MK: Hero is Back. And Korea... mostly just did whatever the heck they wanted. Also I didn't expect a Tezuka (or any animated Japanese) film to actually reference something like 40's Princess Iron Fan.

Thanks for this re-edit, I love animation. The one that really caught my eye was the 1958 stop motion version 火焰山, "Mountain of Flames". I found it on RUclips and was utterly entranced, even without English subs. I found it astonishingly similar to the Rankin Bass stop-motion holiday specials, like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. If any one is wondering about that Hello Jadoo (2017) one, it's a special episode of a Korean animated show called Hello Jadoo. From what I found, the special has characters from the show replace characters from the Monkey King story, with the main character Jadoo standing in for Wukong. I found some episodes of the show, both in dubbed and subbed in English, and it's well animated, entertaining, and pretty funny. It's like a Japanese children's anime, but with more crude humor and edge. I guess Koreans are even more daring then the Japanese. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a video about the Journey to the West special, not even on RUclips. It might be available on Netflix, but not in the country I live in. Also, I can't find any videos about the 2005 animated film Fireball and I know clips of it were available on RUclips years ago.
One of the most famous East Asian fairy tales. I remember Love Hina's take on this story, including the slave bikini scene and Son-Goku had to fight against Bull Demon to save the damsel.

@@owihinapeYeah, I agree with you. They kind of watered down Swk in the LMK. But from what I remember, the Directors themselves said that the Lego adaption of JTTW would be following another storyline instead of the original novel. @Ryomenagus Son Goku is the Japanese transliteration of Sun Wukong's Chinese name. The prototype of Dragon Ball's Son Goku is the Monkey King Sun Wukong. Same name: 孙Sun/Son 悟Wu/Go 空Kong/Ku Same weapon:Power pole Same transportation:Flying Nimbus Cloud This is why Dragon Ball's Goku is human but has monkey characteristics. That's because of reference the Monkey King.
7:21 Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer; this list is absolutely comprehensive but, the scene shown here is not the character that references the monkey king. If you want to know the real character search for Karin Son from Gowcaiser
What about Monkey D. Luffy? Many people don't realize he's also inspired by Sun Wukong. Has "Monkey" as his last name. His transformations are also ape-like. He ate a devil fruit, just like the peaches that give power in JTTW. Nami is the priest to control him when he does stupid stuff. Zoro is the kappa but with green hair instead of a bald spot. Sanji is the lewd pig. Luffy doesn't fight with a pole that can stretch but with limbs that can stretch. They journey to find the one piece (reach englightment). Also there was literally a Sun Wukong character in the Coffee Monkeys group of kidnappers in episode395/chapter 501.

+WooKong 14:39 Magical Celestial Gate is not on RUclips, where is it.
For the lego Monkie kid one they showed mk instead of Wukong even thought Swk is present in the show and mk and Wukong are 2 different people.
the monkey, monk and monsters go west was one of the funniest ones and best quality aswell
Loved the 2003 movie which is My Son Gokuu and I just watched it a few days ago. And Definitely loved all the characters especially Goku.
Update: also finished watching SD Gundam World Heroes and Wukong is definitely one of the best characters in the series 🙉 👑
One of my favorites is Son-Son, the granddaughter of Son Goku in Marvel vs Capcom 2.
13:42 I really like the style of this one. This one is one that I recognised easily I love this one.
But then again I recognised a lot of these
Pl share me, where can I watch this show monkey King 2009
It's also my favorite one ✨🐒✨
@@tiaviva2332 yeah!! It's so good, and now it's getting a eng subtitles on RUclips. I am hyped about it :))
@@whattheflipper27 yay=∆
Japan did way more with Wukong in animation and pop culture than China itself did.
For monkie kid they should've actually shown sun wukong
I like it you included Sun from RWBY
Me too
He should also include the game versions of Sun like Mobile Legends, AoV, LoL, Dota 2
i think that should be a seperate list honestly :p
Yoo! He even included the héntaí version 12:44
you forgot nezha reborn, the monkey king there was awesome and cool animated film
Yeah I enjoyed it quite a bit, I added it into the pinned comment with a few others that I missed. Cheers :)
am i the only one who didn’t realize that goku was an incarnation on sun wukong? i saw goku and made the revelation of the cloud he has and the stick and now i feel like an idiot for not knowing XD
Btw the head band on sun wu kong head is not for decoration. It's used by his master to force him to submit if he refuse to listen. Just by chanting the mantra will give sun wu Kong a terrible headache.
Missed = Journey To The West: Legends of the Monkey King (2000)
The entire series is on RUclips: ruclips.net/p/PLO1lSxRuEvxO8fsH2YP7phre7WaSmo3Op&si=kf8Ect8yTSXvD7UT
1998/1999
this got recommended 'cause I've been watching a lot of Black Myth Wukong videos 😂
1:33 this was my childhood man
3:56 was also my childhood
4:48 as well
8:12 as well lol (I think this was one of my personal favourites back then)
8:24 not 100% sure but I think so?
11:03 I did was this, I though the pig was cringy as hell
13:41 I watched this when I was trying to look for the one at 8:12
The other ones I watched weren't important
It's awesome to see how far Wukong has come and to see it still going is awesome
2:46 yall hear the dragon ball z saying saga theme
Because of the Wukong hype, not only are a $h&tton of essays about "Journey to the West" coming out, but now all of the sudden, older stuff like this are being recommended. The algorith is having a field day.
Monkey king 2009 at 13:50 ,how can I watch that one. Can anyone tell me
Seeing stories of the Monkey King is amazing
12:38
I see that you are a man of *"CULTURE"* as well 😉
Good work!
I grew up watching the Legends of the Monkey King (1999) and I still remember the OP song.
nice, i started watching when my chinese teacher showed us one epsiode during a lesson and loved that series ever since
God of high schools animation is just on point
Sun Wukong from Lego Monkie Kid is my favourite
hes the worst tbh😭 mischaracterization is strong
@@owihinapeYeah, I agree with you. They kind of watered down Swk in the LMK. But from what I remember, the Directors themselves said that the Lego adaption of JTTW would be following another storyline instead of the original novel. (Although, they did sorta get some things right.) LMK’s Depiction of JTTW & Swk is not entirely accurate, but it’s still pretty good imo.
@@coffee.170 this is true, i’ve since this comment rewatched the series and i can conclude its not as bad as i remembered it at all. It was way better than many of the other JTTW & swk adaptations.
I also think my shitty view of LMK swk came mostly from the fandom mischaracterizing him. LMK fandom seems to have very western views & also can be really ignorant when it comes to chinese culture, traditions and mythology.
on a more positive note, cant wait for s5!!!! my lmk hyperfixation came back and hit 10x harder im HYPEDDDD🗣️🗣️🗣️
5:05 and thus a new legacy began
I haven't read much of the original journey to the west, but after decifering the flowery language, what I read so far is pretty funny.
For the first time, I've realized that alakazam the great is older than uproar in heaven-
I always grew up with uproar in heaven, and this is the main version of the story to me xD
These are so many cartoons, that i wonder if Journey to the West is one of the most adapted stories in animation
It's sad that this manga like story doesn't have a proper anime series to this day despite being one of the greatest tales out there.
Okay I admit it, I don't know the character aside from the overly sarcastic productions videos about journey to the west
overly sarcastic productions are just bad at actually informing the viewer. Their vids are made just for the laughs more than anything.
@@acedias12 That is a lot of garbage and you know it, I learned many things from their videos I even find myself reading and studying different stuff regarding myths, history and writing because their videos encourage me to do so. I'm not saying I'm a better person because of them but they definitely made me want to learn more about their subjects.
@@adolfopaezdiaz4371 yeah, and they’re vids lead to my sense of humor!
Never knew there were so many animated Sun Wukong. I've only seen the live action ones :0
Makes me wanna rewatch saiyuki again.
Too bad we get to only see Sun for only a little bit in RWBY. He was my favourite character :')
SHINZO ! ! One of my favourite childhood TV Shows ( I was 9 years old in 2000
It’s kinda weird how you didn’t add the clips of son wukong himself to the lego monkie kid one.
Lego monkie king is cool and exciting, but i most like Monkey King The God Hunter( full-length animation)
I still remember seeing the one at 4:44 during my childhood. There was a german dub for it, but it seems almost impossible nowadays to find it....
Would love to see it again.
My favorite iterations of Sun Wukong would be between Jin Mori (GOH) and the Lego Monkie Kid
I must have missed it, but sun wukong also appears in jackie chan adventures in a couple of episodes! He appears trapped as a puppet that reverts back when he tricks jackie and his friends!
The first monkey king / sun wukong that I watched as a kid was the main character turning into apple. The enemy ate him then he hit every organ like they were drums. After that, I think he asked the enemy to become his ally
1:28 GOKU 🗿
Yes cuz goku is wukong
Goku is another name for Sun Wukong
@Ryomenagus Son Goku is the Japanese transliteration of Sun Wukong's Chinese name.
The prototype of Dragon Ball's Son Goku is the Monkey King Sun Wukong.
Same name: 孙Sun/Son 悟Wu/Go 空Kong/Ku
Same weapon:Power pole
Same transportation:Flying Nimbus Cloud
This is why Dragon Ball's Goku is human but has monkey characteristics. That's because of reference the Monkey King.
I instantly reconized that monke girl on the bottom left from the thumbnail and i'm not proud of it.
What the name
If there is anyone confused why Sun wukong is being called Goku sun wukong translate to son Goku in Japanese
7:21 Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer; this list is absolutely comprehensive but, the scene shown here is not the character that references the monkey king. If you want to know the real character search for Karin Son from Gowcaiser
I recommend reading the god of highschool webtoon it is very good
I'm reading it and it's good
What about Monkey D. Also there was literally a Sun Wukong character in the Coffee Monkeys group of kidnappers in episode395/chapter 501.
the three great shonen were inspired by sun in its entirety lol
@@otrocanalsinsentidoxd833only dragon Ball and maybe one piece in some aspects
I think ur reading a bit too into this with the "one piece treasure = enlightenment" thing, but I can see how Luffy is Sun Wukong inspired
Japan does not pay homage to china at all ever
That’s just his gum gum moves.😒
Ranma is also represented as wukong in akane's dreams in the 13th ova "Nightmare! Incense of Spring Sleep"
Here after Black myth: wukong 😂
Till this day, everyone still talks about his name, a true immortal 🐒
