I'm not sure if you're aware, but your video is an actual required viewing for a course at Carnegie Mellon University, focused on the history of anime. Bravo, it was a fantastic video.
@@WooKong No need to apologize. This series is very entertaining and educational. I knew that anime's invention was tied to Japan's history, but I didn't know how far back it went! I had no idea that anime's origins could be from Japan not wanting to be an American colony! Thanks a lot!
I often realize some japanese Anime conferences to the French public. Your 3 documentaries taught me a lot a information I hadn't find yet. Clearly, you dug a lot to find the animation extracts. Can't tell you how much I thank you for your incredible work.
I am greatly impressed by how well-made your anime documentaries are. I can only imagine how much research and work must have gone into the making of those. I have a deep respect for what you are doing and the fact that essentially you choose to do it without any financial incentive.
Thank you Wojtek, I really appreciate you saying that. I love this hobby and really enjoy pushing myself to improve every skill involved in making these. Even if I never make money from this, hopefully it is some you, myself and a few others can be satisfied with :)
Absolutely staggering, my friend, this is your finest video yet. I got chills at the end when you finally came to Astro Boy. I can't believe you did this all on your own. If you ever need help in any way making these, let me know, I'll try to contribute what I can.
Thanks Rouviews, I tried my best haha. Your comment and support is more than enough, it lets me dedicate more time to producing these. But if anything specific comes to mind I will let you know. thanks again :)
You’re doing amazing work! I’ve learned a lot about this through studying books and articles, but seeing it play out in video form really suits the subject! I hope you continue, I am extremely fascinated by the story of anime to tell from this point onwards.
Hey.. this is more than amazing! I know the hard work that goes behind a 4 minute video... I can't imagine the painstaking work this was!! And as some with ADHD and that has seen countless video essays, this is by far the most understandable, entertaining and engaging video I've have seen, taking into account that you not only talked about anime but also politics! Thank you so much
Great Series on these history of Japanese animation. I had already known that Tezuka's work was by far the far not the first but there was a ton of stuff here I wasn't aware of myself. I can understand why a video like this took so much work to produce and research. Some of these shorts for part 1 and part 2 must have been extremely obscure, especially for many non Japanese people who weren't around to see these cartoons as they premiered
gosh i genuinely love your videos, they're so good and i love watching them while i work on my own animations. Please keep it up, you're doing a great job!
great documentary Alakazam is a strange piece and I like to mention it because of Bowser and the Bull demon king. In theory the new Mario movie is a Monkey King movie.
Stunning video. I think it's also important to know the influence of Disney style in Osamu Tezuka's works (sometimes almost plagiarizing Walt) and UPA's limited style clearly seen in Uncle Tory works.
Ok, awesome videos, part 1 and 2! What I was specifically analyzing at this time was when the jump in theme happens. Where was the jump that change the history of anime to the anime we have now. The jump is clear: Astroboy in 1963. Sure, we all know how important Astroboy is. But seeing the history before it, we can see how impactful it was! It really was a jump compared to previous anime and, not just that, it changed anime forever since then. We can't take that jump for granted. Of course it's not out of nowhere. Of course we can see the influences. But still Astroboy has enough originality in it to define it as very different in spite of the similarities and influences of all that came before it. That unique set of influences put together is what makes it original, if you can understand it. Nothing is 100% new. But the sum of the elements in s product, yeah, can make it new, fresh. Astroboy is that. Again, thr jump in terms of theme matters a lot! I could write so much about this. And that jump in theme is Astroboy.
Well-made video, but I think you might have slightly misunderstood the story of the original Godzilla. In the movie, the military is powerless in stopping Godzilla no matter what conventional weapons they throw at him. He is finally defeated in the end by a well-meaning scientist who decides to sacrifice himself using a deadly invention akin to the atomic bomb. The Japanese Navy simply accompanied him during his final moments, alongside the rest of the main cast. Not only did the man intend on saving Japan, but also to prevent the armies/gov'ts of the world from seeking to exploit his knowledge of the deadly weapon. Thus, he and Godzilla both perish during the ending. Spoiler for a film that was released over 75 years ago. Otherwise, this vid teaches some very interesting history on Japanese animation and it was worth watching.
Thanks! I like your explanation of it better. It is a great film but i still felt that as it could only be defeated by a super weapon, resulted in a slight muddling of messages at the end.
This is the rise of anime (Japanese animation) it is different from cartoons which i enjoy cartoons especially growing up with them but i like anime a lot more because it is most talked about media

This was a great video. For future reference though, manga is pronounced "mon-gah". Outside of that tiny nitpick, this was a well fleshed out video.
