I like it, but it’s a shame they didn’t make it closer to the 2023 ICE Blazer, with its higher ground clearance. But probably needed to make adjustments for efficiency and aero to get that 300 miles range.
I currently own the top of the line Ioniq 5 model ( in Canada) but quite impressed with what GM have done and have a deposit down on the 2024 Blazer EV. Easier to get parts when built in North America. Blazer EV is manufactured in Mexico.
Will GM be able to produce and sell this vehicle successfully ? So far, they have really been struggling on delivering EV's after the issues with LG batteries. The Mustang Mach E has sold 80 k units, and Tesla model Y still has red hot demand. So GM has a lot of work to do in this market segment. With that said, it looks like a promising product.
Many in the existing EV fan community misunderstand the capabilities of the large OEMs. They don't enter a market until they see a pathway to doing so profitably. Sure, they all made compliance cars when required to, but did so with the minimum effort and expense. GM wouldn't be introducing this car unless they had the supply chain already in place. For the last couple years they have been working on the Ultrium battery plant and EV manufacturing facility. Additional factories are being converted. Reconfiguring factories the car companies all do on a regular basis. Once GM settled on a platform, they will reuse it on as many vehicles as possible. GM's customer base has been waiting for this car, or one like it. They do know how to sell cars.
I'm excited to see this car from GM. Why? Because it's 'normal'. This could pass for a new ICE model. It doesn't scream "Hey Look at Me! I'm SOOOO _Electric_ !!!" This car tells me GM thinks the mass market is ready to buy EVs by the millions. The specs can wait, but I'm glad to see Chevy rolling out from the start with model names and option packages that their customers know and can relate to. The Volt was a great car, held back by its name, GM not knowing how to promote it, and a form factor that screamed economy car. The Blazer's target market is every suburban garage. More than a few will likely park next to an electric Silverado eventually. Families tend to stick to one brand.
"If a frunk is important to you, you might be better off with a Mach-E or Ioniq 5". First of all you wouldn't fit much more than a small lunch box in the "frunk" of Ioniq 5.. and what about Tesla, Model Y and Model X... you know the company that started frunks in EVs, and that have actually sized them appropriately so they are useful.
According to the website, you’ll be placing a factory order once they’re ready to be built for customer delivery. Dealers can’t markup factory orders, only what they have in inventory if you want to walk in and buy something off the lot.
The only reason for the lack of a "Frunk" is that the EV components are still being pieced together to make this vehicle. Once they are better integrated, there will be plenty of room for a "Frunk". And people do use them.
Modular subassembly construction makes iteration of products more economical. e.g. Revising an inverter doesn't require modifying the motor housing. Also, having a dedicated machinery compartment makes both assembly and later service easier.
Just say NO to subscription services. Can you imagine the shock when customers discover Super Cruise is an option you paid for as a 3-year trial? Three years and one month you would have paid all that money for nothing or ... pay more money to continue to use the feature.
Is it a fire hazard Did he just say 22 inch comfortable ride.... Also wtf were they thinking having the charge port door open down.. The cable hangs wtf is this design Jesus christ
Why a fire hazard? With you on the tires. Charge port door won't be a problem, the handle of the cable alone sticks out farther than the door, plus the cable is pretty stiff. The real shame is the port placement; ports should be close to or on the ends of the car, otherwise you run into problems with short charger cables pretty quickly.
