- Are you thinking about how to plan a trip to Leh Ladakh in 2024 July or Spiti Valley in 2024 July or Zanskar Valley in 2024 July. People want to know if Manali Leh Highway is open or not, and whether Srinagar Leh Highway is open or not what about the status of Manali Kaza Road, is the road from Manali to Kaza open?
What are the current 2024 travel updates in Ladakh or guidelines for travel to Spiti Valley in 2024?
A new update is available now for July second week on the post/community section.
Many travelers are asking if they should plan the trip to Leh Ladakh in July 2024 or their trip to Spiti Valley trip in July 2024 or Zanskar Valley trip in July 2024, should they wait more for things to settle, rules and restrictions when traveling to Ladakh or Spiti Valley in July 2024, what are the current Leh Ladakh road status updates, Spiti Valley road status updates, etc.
Even there are new rules of inner line permits for Leh Ladakh that you no longer need Inner Line Permits in Ladakh and only need to pay the Ladakh Ecology Fee.
These are among many other questions I am getting in my inbox these days, so today in this video, I am going to update you on these questions and update you for the month of July 2024.
- How is the Ladakh weather in July
- How is the Spiti Valley weather in July

Hi dheeraj bhai
Maine apka aug 2024 wala video dekha hai. Thida confidence kam hua hai. I am planning a trip to leh ladakh via manali from Delhi from 9th aug to 19th aug.
Ya 15th aug to 25 th aug on ecosport diesal 1.5l.
Please suggest which time is better and if the car is ok or not.. i have already complete the spiti circuit in aug 2022 from shimla to kaza to manali.
Very nice vlog very informative super sir ji 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks and welcome!
Lovely, Dheeraj! I have got new news on permit only from you. I followed you closely when every video was in line with updated information. I am glad to find you. I am planning a July trip when Sun rain and traces of cold is still there. I am carrying a 20 degree sleeping bag, 10 degree wind cheater and dry fit tee and fleece, thermals and light woolen high neck or sweaters I am coming from 35 degree to 10 to 20C
Happy to hear my content has been useful dost.. I think you are packing it appropriately! it shall be OK.
Can you explain where will this sleeping bag be required?
I have seen other RUclipsrs also carrying sleeping bag to Leh but never saw them using it. Where is it required? And is it actually needed in the Leh trip ?
Brilliant video!
What is the general weather like between Aug second half and Sep first half?
Is the weather prohibitive for riding completely?
Thanks!
September first half is good time, avoid August totally dost.
2nd view, I am in Hunder, visited turtuk today. Was eagerly waiting for your video for latest road conditions even when I am in ladakh myself. 😅
ha ha, thank you bhai and am sure you are having a great time up there in Ladakh
Abhi kya rain ka kya status hai...main 15 July ko nikilunga.....kya ja sakte hain ???

I just came back from leh road-trip today safely and i can say dheeraj bhai have provided 200% correct information
Just want to add that if you are planning to do umlingla then both ways are hard in climb , photila was zigzag and was more painful then norbula top but have good road conditions on the other hand till norbula top from hanle around 33 -34 km its off road and have tight hairpin bend
Thank you bhai for posting the update.. and yeah both those routes have their own challenges.. I am very happy to know my content helped with your trip

Hi dheeraj
Excellent information
Is there network at Panong So lake view point tented stays ?
At Maan Village Jio postpaid network comes, Spangmik village very erratic/less reliable and then at Chusul further down Pangong network comes again and Internet too
Dear Dheeraj, thanks for your informative videos. I’m currently on my way to Leh and in Kargil right now.
I have a high ground clearance 4x2 car. You think I can do hunder to pangong as you mentioned the road work is going on. Also, is there any way I can get to know the status at a more real time? Maybe like in 4-5 days when I’ll be doing that route. Thank you.
Yes, it is manageable, just be careful of the quick sand and try to stick to the laid path/dirt track. Nothing will change that rapidly there brother now that all main highways are open. It will be in similar conditions as I posted unless there is some weather changes.
Hi @discoverwithdheeraj Dheeraj bhai, thank you for this informative video!
I'm planning to go to Padum via Shinkula and wanted to check if there is any odd-even going on there (and if yes, then what dates what side)? You mentioned everything is open for Manali-Leh routes, but not sure if that is the case for Shinkula and Sirsir la routes as well.
Been following you and the 'Devil's' advice ;) since my first trip in 2016 and always grateful for the effort you put in!
Thank you Avi bhai.. well no restrictions of odd even anywhere including Ladakh roads. You can travel up there anyday.. just jeep an eye on weathet if leaving after 15 July
Thank you for the updates , im on a month and a half of spiti - leh - ladakh and zanskar - this video helped.. also how is the Padum - Kargil Road
Glad it helped, Kargil Padum via Pensila has been improved a lot. Also, the below update was posted few days back by @kudpiraj sir on another video of my channel.
"Padum to Kargil road, initial 40 kms is bad and the next part till Rangdhum is newly built two lane road and is in very good condition. Pensila pass road is also very good.
From Rangdhum to Kargil, initial 60 kms 50% road is in good condition and rest is under construction. The last 60 kms through Suru valley till Kargil is old road it has also some rough patches but manageable."
Thanks for all guidance brother, I just completed our ladakh trip in our car from Bangalore.
I felt leh to manali to be more tough as the roads are really bad and 3 passes, It takes a lot of time to cover the stretch. Best thing to avoid traffic to leave early from all the places since there is a high chance that you would be stuck in traffic or there would be road repairs going on
Glad you had a good trip brother and well, thanks for updating the status here and giving suggestion to others to plan better.. leaving early and sleeping early always helps
15:35 NPD Road maybe open to public by December this year, said an Army official whom I met in Padum recently. Blackening the surface may take another couple of years.
However, I have my own doubts, because December means winter will start and then the road will have snowfall and obstructions. I guess by April or May next year it should be open for public.
I also feel that way sir.. it may not open before next season
Very good 👍
Thank you 👍
Dheeraj bhai,
Is there a Shinku la - Padum road bypassing Purne ? Via Dangze village? I heard it's tarred but narrow road.
Yes it is tarrred however the purne route is more exiciting 🙂
Nilesh bhai has replied, also, the below update was posted a few days back by @kudpiraj sir on another video of my channel.
"Road from Darcha to Shinku La top is almost in good condition with some rough patches and 5 to 6 water crossings, two water crossings were major one. Some snow at shinku la top but road is good.
The road to descend from shinku la top is very bad, it is full of water, mud and non existent Tarmac.
Next from shinku la bottom to padum you will get some patches of good road and bad rood. Tar is being laid at a rapid pace. Till now 40% of the road is in good condition from shinku la bottom to padum."
Thank you Nilesh and Dheeraj bhai !
very useful informations! thank you! i have a question: are zangla and chilling connected by a road that runs through the zanskar valley? I can’t find it on maps…
They are connected now but road is not officially opened yet, workers mostly don’t allow people and I have tried to show the road conditions in the video above in the section of Padum-Nerak-Chiling-Leh route.. detailed guide will come in coming weeks.. Google willl not show it until it is officially opened and updated but road is through now expected to open for public by end of season or early next season
@@discoverwithdheeraj thank you very much for your answer, sir! And what can you tell me about the umba la pass? Is it open? How are the road conditions?
Umba La pass was opened and road conditions wise was OK OK as of last year what locals told me but I do not have any fresh update on it.
You did not mention about permits. Can you emphasize on the update about permits in leh, nubra, turtuk, pangong, moriri, hanle, tsokar, pangi.

Sir, We will reach Spiti Valley on 8th October this year. Can we get snow between 8th and 10th? What do you think about the first week of October, Tabo, Kaza snowfall?
Well, it is purely based on luck. It does snow for 1-2 days in late september to october but will based on luck
Hi. We were planning to do manali - shinkula -padum - sirsirla - leh - manali next week. Our plan was to reach manali on the second day after starting from leh. How many extra days should we put in if we want to add umlingla to this itenary?
Also we were planning on camping at most spots. Any place were its not advisable in this itenary? And do we have to book homestays for hanle, if so could you share some contacts.
After reaching Leh you can do this:
Day 1 - Leh to Terido Village, rest and acclimatize, visit Teriphu Village (check video of Cho House: ruclips.net/video/AZyV1-I6OsM/видео.html
Day 2 - Terido to Hanle via Nyoma - Loma (tank up at Nyoma)
Day 3 - Leave 6.30 AM for Umling La and be back to Hanle by 12-1 PM and continue to Tso Moriri Lake for night stay via Loma - Nyoma (tank up again)
Day 4 - Tso Moriri - Puga - Tso Kar - Sarchu
Day 5 - Sarchu to Manali
Hello Dheeraj,
first of all, thank you very much for your great reports!!!
I have a question. In one of your posts you wrote that your personal favorite time to visit Spiti Valley is September/October. I'm traveling to India in October and would really like to go to Spiti Valley. I'll arrive on October 12th. in Delhi in the morning and would then go straight to Chandigar and from there I would like to continue on the Spiti Valley tour with a drive via Kinnaur road to Kaza and back, if it s possible, via Manali, so that I will be back on September 20th (or September 21) in Chandigar.
My question is: does that really make sense? I have read in other reports that October is classified as a bad travel time for Spiti Valley and if travelling in October, then only until October 10th. In some reports, October is even classified as winter time. I'm now totally unsure what to do. I would really like to go there and I ll be sad if it doesnt work. But if everything there is full of snow, it doesn't make sense to me. I don't want to do winter sports, I just want to look at and enjoy the beautiful nature, visit villages, lakes and temples, hike normally, take photos. And I wont be happy if everything is full of snow.
What would you do if you were me? I know there is no guarantee about the weather, but based on your experience, what would you do? My hollidays and the flight are fixed I cant change it.
Thanks and best regards!
Barbara
Best regards
Barbara
Hi Barbara,
Well, yes, you can do such a trip during that time. Up until Kaza via Kinnaur, there should not be any problem, rather amazing apples in Spiti and beautiful fall colors. And yes, nights and morning get colder, like subzero in Spiti Valley after Tabo, around Kaza and higher villager. There will not be any snow unless it snows during the days of your travel. So, that should not be an issue unless weather decides to go bad unusually during the days of your travel. Otherwise, you just need to dress in layers, days will be warm to cool while nights and mornings will be cold.
Now, the main challenge is traveling between Manali and KAza during that later in the season and also visiting Chandratal Lake on the way. For this part you will need to be careful and keep an eye on weather before starting the trip. I will NOT recommend any overnight stay between Kaza and Manali and NO stayy at Chandratal AT ALL... It can be VERRY VERY risky to stay overnight up at Chandratal after middle of October. So, for coming back via Manali Kaza road, first check the weather forecast, ask locals and if it is safe after this diligence then decide to travel back via Manali Kaza road while taking a quick detour to Chandratal and returning back to Manali by evening. If you get late you can even stay at Sissu too.
Rest, just pack layered clothing with at least one winter jacket and pair of thermals.

Hello Dheeraj,
thank you very much for your long, detailed and honest answer with many important hints and tips. Your answer is really very helpful for me and encourages me to plan the trip! Of course I would also like to go to Chandratal Lake, but I can live with it if it doesn't work out. I think I'll try to find a local taxi guide who knows the area well and is willing to flexibly adjust the itinerary depending on the weather, but that's probably in their best interest too.
Thank you again! Your reports about the Spiti Valley are the most helpful and best I have found! Now that it's clear that I'm planning the trip, I'll look into them even more intensively and, if necessary, contact you again with a question ;)
Thanks so much!

Dheeraj bhai, I am in Leh right now. Drove from Jammu Shrinagar side 3 days back. While roads are good, traffic is opened at fixed hours only due to Amarnath Yatra. From Sonmarg to Kargil traffic is opened at 1pm only.
Thank you bhai for the update
I heard in news that some roads were blocked due to rains near mandi and kullu. We were planning to travel from Delhi to Manali to Kaza starting tonight i.e. 7 th july. Any idea about the current road conditions? Are they open now?
Now that rains have started, always keep an eye on weather reports and alerts issued by weather department. Travel only after considering weather. Roads may close in bad weather now intermittently and authorities try to clear them as soon as possiible.
I need a suggestion from you . I always prefer your videos while planning the ladakh circuit . Completed Spiti circuit in 2022 .
Now I need a suggestion regarding the season selection this year.
Considering this year's late monsoon arrival can we plan the zanskar and leh circuit in the last week of September ??? And also what should be the ideal time as per you ?
Yes, bhai I will suggest planning it somewhere near middle of September like 10-30 September to not go too much into October. This way you can plan with little less cold and manageable

Hi sir, actually i plan zanskar vally, in December 1st or 2nd week, if u suggest car rental service , who drive to zanskar vally, ... Plz sir help me
I DO NOT recommend planning Zanskar Valley in December as it is too cold and roads can close for weeks to months leaving you stuck up there in winter. I generally do not recommend to take such extreme adventure trips.

Hi Dheeraj Bhai,
Thanks for all your informative videos, which provide lot of essential information to travelers.I hv watched most of ur videos 👌👌.
Would request you to some of my queries, We are planing our trip in 3rd 4th week of September Via Jammu Srinagar Leh highway then return via Leh Manali highway through our personal car.
1. Road conditions
2. Weather conditions
3. Is it possible to book homestay on the spot at this time of September.
4. Any restrictions on carrying luggage in roof of the car in carrier.
We would be thankful, if you can respond to our queries.
Regards,
Glad to know my videos are helping...
1. Best road conditions during that time when compared to rest of the season. You can check the September update for latest roads but like I said, whole season that time will be the best you get.
2. Weather is nice and pleasant in day time and cold at passes, lakes and night time at passes and lakes. Check my September 2023 vLog series too when I went there last to get an idea of roads and places and weather and clothes I was wearing.
3. Lean season, so bookings can be done on the spot too.
4. No restrictions as such, just tie them properly and efficiently so it does not fall off.
I am a planning a bike trip in the later part of August. Will the weather be ideal or bad?

This is my solo LEH-ZANSKAR-LEH Itinerary please suggest if any changes are required
Day-1
12-7 Leh -lamayuru- fotula-kargil -225 kms
Day-2
13-7 kargil-rangdum-suru valley-nunkun peaks-panikhar-pensila pass-drang drung glacier-padum -370 kms
(tough day I’ll start at 4Am)
Day-3
14-7 Padum-kurgiakh-gonbo Rangjon-kurgiakh-sinkula pass-kurgiakh- local sightseeing-200kms
Day-4
15-7 kurgiakh-phuktal-padum-karsha-stongday-sani village-sani lake-padum
Local sightseeing-160kms
Day-5
16-7 Padum-zangla-lingshed-singela pass-photoksar-sirsirla-wanla-khalsi-nimmo-leh-305kms
1250 to 1400 kms
On Day 2 you can start 5 AM as well, unless you don't stop tooo much, you can make it to PAdum with daylight left in the day. 4 AM can be too early missing many things you mentioned to see.
I highly recommend a rest day on Day 3 after a tiring Day 2. Better plan like
Day 3 rest in Padum
Day 4 Padum to Purne, Phuktal trek
Day 5 Purne - Shinkula - Purne - Padum/Zangla
Day 6 take lingshed-singela route to Leh.

Hows the road conditions right now from shimla to manali. I have heard that there have been too many landslides. Please confirm.
It is monsoon time now and there are bound to be landslides through August now.. It is september now the roads will start to stabilize and get better in lower parts of Himachal
I m planning to visit at 1st week of october. Is there any chances of snow fall on the way to spiti or leh
Well, it is purely based on luck. It does snow for 1-2 days in late september to october but will based on luck

Sir can u plz tell what are the road conditions from leh to pangong..i am planning to go tomorrow..and i have a female co driver..
Leh to Pangong via Changla is much better and only broken around Changla pass in manageable shape and rest 80% you will find it tarred.

I do not think so you need them unless you plan to hike somewhere that has water crossings to cross on foot

Hi Dheeraj Bhai..
Just came back from Spiti today morning..( saw one devil on wheels innova at dhanker Monastery..but seems u wasn't in it 😅)
My suggestion if u allow to be on comment
Manali Kaza roads are pathetic all roads if there were before are removed(mayb they will reconstruct)
We stayed at chacha chachi dhabha at 11pm ( we started late)
Suggestion -
As Dheeraj bhai says start early
Use high ground clearance cars( or use day light to avoid car damage) urban cruiser got left side engine cover plastic cover damaged and all screws of left side for lower body cover were gone
.so get ur vehicle check lower part too..
2. Weather in night is usually cold ❄️🥶 day time its hot but keep ur warm clothes nearby..
3. Keep cash
4. From rohatag pass cut towards kaza off road has no network till losar village 😅
Shimla to kaza roads are like normal roads with just one heavy water cross at Nabo
Thank you deal for the updates... It will help a lot of other folks.. And well those cars that you see with my old brand, they are love of the locals up there who continue to show love for the Devil :).. I live in USA bhai and come down now for couple of trips a season :) ...
And yeah bhai that Manali Kaza route is really pathetic and can take a toll on any car. Thanks for sharing these updates

I am planning Zanskar trip in first week of October. How is the weather like at that time? Are there chances of road closures?
Weather will be quite cold, especially at passes and nights/mornings... Road closure chances are less but it indeed snow for a day or two anytime in September/October but snow melts away fast.. so you are not looking for a long term closure of roads but if at all it snows during days of your travel.. it can basically close roads/passes intermittently..
@@discoverwithdheeraj Thank you! What about mid-september? I just want to know what would be the best time.

Hi, Me and my husband are going to Ladakh on 13th from Delhi by our car (Eco sport) by Manali to leh highway Can you advise if this is right time to go by our car ? And from Manali where should be stay which is centre point between Manali and Leh ?
Now that rains have started, always keep an eye on weather reports and alerts issued by weather department. Travel only after considering weather. Roads may close in bad weather now intermittently and authorities try to clear them as soon as possiible.
Hi sir, me and my family are going to Jammu nd Kashmir on 12th from Delhi , is this the safe time for road trip?

Until mid July if rains are away, it is OK to travel Spiti
There is no road at all for continuous length of 80-100 KM on the way from Leh ( Upshi) to Manali (baraLacha La) …doesn’t matter whether you are driving SUV or MUV or sedan…those who will be travelling through this route be mentally and physically prepared..…

Sir, thank u very much for the updates and as strongly suggested by you we are following the delhi jammu srinagar leh manali route and starting from delhi on our bikes on 29 July 24.
We are planning to go to tso moriri from pangong itself and from tso moriri to kaza and return to manali via ramnagar..
Is it doable ? And I m seriously concerned about the availability of petrol in this route as I have dominar which have a low fuel tank capacity with less mileage as we know. We will be carrying 10 litres of additional petrol from wherever possible..
please enlighten us about the route we should take .. and availability of petrol..
Thank u again sir for these great videos..
I wish u very all the best and looking forward for ur reply..
All the best sir.
Thank you for your wishes.. means a lot.. Glad my content has been useful to you. Now as of May 2024, you will find petrol pumps ar following places in Ladakh
Leh, Karu near Leh,
Diskit in Nubra ,
Tangtse near Pangong Lake,
Nyoma near Hanle and Tso Moriri (Newly operational in 2024)
Then if you exit on Manali Leh highway from Tso Moriri then next petrol pump will be Keylong.
So if you are doing Ladakh circuits as above, you will need to manage about 290 km without petrol pump in case returning to Leh or Karu otherwise if you exit from Tso Moriri to Keylong/Manali then you need to manage about 420 km
Also, Tso Moriri to Kaza is not possible in single day. I hope you are breaking the journey.
taxi union ko jayada udna nahi chahiye...kahi ka bhi ho...Your video is very informative
Thank you 🙏

Only rarely at high passes unless it is an anomalous weather event
You will get snow mixed rain but not the typical winter like cotton snow. we got snow mixed rain in gonbo rangjon & one more place i don't recollect.

Hi
How can I contact you for discussion???
Dhiraj bhai, I have three question. Can I travel from Kargil-Padum-Zanskar Valley- Purney - Shinkula Pass - Manali by Tempo Traveller?
If so, then how many nights I have to stay excluding Kargil and Manaly ?
And last question what is the approximate fare of Tempo from Kargil to Manali ?
I will be so kind if you help me.
Yes Subhas da, you can travel via tempo traveler on that route. You can follow this route:
Kargil - Padum
Padum rest and acclimatize day - Stongdey, Karsha
Padum - Purne and rest there to acclimatize
Purne - Phuktal - Purne
Purne - Shinkula - Manali
Many many Thanks. Have you any idea about fare ? Is it suitable for April End ?
Not really, you should plan sometime in May end or June to September barring monsoon months.. i can share some local references for taxi rates
Here are some estimates of full taxi
Local sightseeing per day approx 5000, depends which area or monastery you are visiting.
Kargil Padum 18K
Leh Padum 20K
Manali Padum 20 K
Padum Purne Padum 10 K in one day.
There is no fixed taxi costing from the Union and these are rough estimates that taxi folks charge up there. Consider +-10% to these numbers
Okay. Thank you for your valuable advice. I will plan it at May end.
@@discoverwithdheerajDheeraj Bhai I tried to post contact numbers of hired cab service from Kargil to Padum, Padum to Manali and Local Taxi operator in Padum. Not getting posted.

Is there any snow in spiti now?(July)
Not much snow left anymore in Spiti

Yes you can do that circuit on Leh bike
