I haven't had a cigarette for over 15 years, but I think that banning smoking dealt a big blow to the local pub. It was much easier to get in a few beers from the supermarket and have a drink and smoke watching TV at home. Then Covid just about finished a lot of them off. Some have revived due to serving food, but like a lot of the High Street, we have to accept that things have changed and aren't coming back. With the internet and digital communication the world is a different place.
@EnbyEmily so you're saying a lot of people have suddenly just got into collecting vinyl? No haha, DJs, mainstream artist producing modern tracks on vinyl ect. Vinyl is coming back for sure this time
In Australia they have smoking lounge separate from the bar with automatic glass doors and air conditioning perfect so you don’t get over whelmed with the smoke
Thanks for what your doing. I left easington around 67 i was 6 years old and migrated to Australia with family.. But the few years i lived in easington colliery.. it was great . Lots of good memories.. i sometimes wonder what i would be doing now if i stayed.. ? Anyway, Keep up the good work .. !
Tin Pot was at the other end of School Street (other end of the street to HMS Flagship). It's now Frankies gym where my good mate runs the boxing club. Also, don't forget the cricket club 😆 I remember you going in the Mutton back in the day with Red and Oddy? I also remember you drinking in the Village inn back in the 90's where every man and his dog from Easington and the surrounding villages use to pack it out every weekend. Good memories mate.
Used to love going out in Easington back in the 80s .Village was great Kings head ,mutton, village inn, top house then down to the Colliery club for the Friday night disco ,and it was rammed.
Back in the early 80's my mam worked as a barmaid in the Village Inn then mid 80's in the Half Moon, I remember the HM being very posh. Keep up the great vids Terry. 👍

Every time when I was on holiday in the UK, I was taken to the Victory Club. In fact I became a Member. Fond memories. Gosh! so much has changed. Or, I am very old now.

There was 2 clubs and a pub on my estate 10 years ago now there isn’t any. But everyone stood for it. There was only a handful of people who were bothered so you get what you stand for.

I had many relitives that worked in the pits, very strong union family that continued with my grandfather in the U.S. At almost 67 I wish I had asked more questions. At least I was privledged to meet some of my grandparent's siblings when they came here to visit and have been able to connect with cousins online. My grandmother had a strong attaction to our lake Michigan and seeing pictures of your surrounding area, I see why. As a child, we visited the lake and beaches daily.

The King's Head suffered a big fire, and I don't know if it ever re-opened. The Shoulder of Mutton on the other corner, as you say, and the Mason's Arms on the side of the Green. Incidentally, there used to be a butcher's shop next to it, and my wife was born in the flat above that. The Half Moon still going well, I think, mainly because of the food. I'm pretty sure there was also a political club on the Green, Liberal or Conservative, can't remember which.

But I’ll tell you another thing, central drive in Blackpool was chock full of clubs/pubs and in the last 5 years they’ve moved loads of foreigners and Muslims in and they don’t use English business so pubs, clubs, chippies, butchers, newsagents are all gone! Look on Google earth and you’ll see. It’s just Turkish barbers.
