  • THE OLD OAK MOVIE TRAILOR .. • THE OLD OAK - Official... So today Myself and Keano took a look around a old pit village to see the effects the closure of the pit had and the opening of a massive retail outlet. With many pubs and shops closed down you could see the damage it had done to the local high street but this nice village / colliery still has many assets and houses seem to be thriving unlike local neighbours like Easington Colliery and Horden come on this journey with us and see where a famous new movie was set. Also we find the cheapest Property round for you. The downside of things were some abandoned Pubs .. We finally found a decent fish and chip shop / Chinese for our tea please like and subscribe thanks ✅👍 #exploring #property #abandoned #housingmarket #northeast #derelict #MurtonColliery

I always enjoy your videos, I downloaded that movie you mentioned The Old Oak, will watch it later. I left the N.E. in 1974, after a few years in the merchant navy. Wasn't able to settle back down in the UK, took a job with an American company and have been here since retired to Florida. Keep posting your videos, great job.

When the kitchen was too full of people, my grandma used to shout "All change, Merton Station". We all scattered when she chased us with a whirling tea towel.

I was on the Terrace a few weeks ago, I didn't realise I was walking in the footsteps of two comedy giants at the time!. Thanks for putting us onto the Ken Loach film, I will get hold of it and look up the pub locations when I'm next in Murton. I'll also give a nod at the location of Keano's accident.

To us locals of murton the Victoria pub or old oak was known to us as the high house. A great pub in its day great times.

    great video again..!
i moved to Murton (from newcastle) in oct 1999 as i got a job at bracken hill business park (and that's closed down a bit especially near birchwood drive / shotton lane)...loved the place and the people were friendly..
i lived at brooklyn terrace, and i was at then opening of Dalton park and the toff 'Tara Palmer-Tomkinson' opened it (tho, i never saw her), and i heard she was in some sports shop kicking a football all over the place and the manager kicked her out haha
i asked a lass out who worked at the co-op (woods terrace) but she was seeing someone, but ended up seeing a lass called Jill for a while..
used to get my hair cut (where smoke and mirrors is?) and the staff would actually be smoking tabs too..!
i only went in the dalton park pub in a couple of times, shame it's closed as there's loads of new houses over the road from there now..
i had no idea about the ken loach film and the victoria - as back when i lived there (brooklyn street is just behind it) it used to be called the high house and I'd be there most friday nights frunk on vodka red bulls and playing pool... i used to drink with paddy (RIP) who was a taxi drive for tonys taxis (also RIP) - not sure if you knew them?

Paul Kitson is good craic (and as hard as nails!). It sounds like I'm a year or two younger than you.
    TJ's Diner only opens 7:30AM-1 or 2.
The top half of the Terrace was always mostly residential AFAIK.
The Victoria (known by locals as The High House) was famous for the number of fights that went on there. I've had at least one. They employed one superhuman bouncer who could (and happily would) chin anyone. Afterwards the fighters either shook hands or didn't return.
Proper old skule pub for coal miners.
I'm pleased to see Murton still seems to be doing a good job of recovering from the loss of the pit.
The overhead thing your mate was on about may have been the "Aerial Flight" which carried coal ore 4-500 yards from the pit to over the road where they cleaned it.
It went above the road in front of Dalton Park.
The place where they cleaned the ore was turned into the open air swimming pool to the right at the top of the Terrace.
I spent my teens in Murton, thanks for the memory trip.
    🙏

Love the weather, typical North East sunshine lmao ... It's sad looking at the death of the highstreets now, even here in Pudhoe the only thing's thriving are hairdressers, Turkish barbers and charity shops ... Great video, I lived all around Houghton / Hetton at one point so recognise a lot of the areas you're wandering through ... Can't wait for the next video :D
