A crackhead showed me something like this years ago, trying to get me to buy it. And he was calling all the generic games real titles. For example, there was a top-down, Atari looking racing game he kept calling Mario Kart.
@@warrendesenberg With the guy's picture on it, too. One of his eye-lids half closed, the other wide open. A five o'clock shadow. A slim shady hair cut. Maybe his picture is a little blurry because he couldn't stop moving. He was dropping all kinds of ridiculous big name franchises for that thing.
my dad just bought me one of these and honestly i am delighted! obviously it just has a bunch of ripoff games but its fun playing these things that i never experienced
What's weird is this model looks 100x more playable than the one I bought a few years ago at Walgreens (it had a black and red box and photos of games that...weren't on there). That one was 99% card games, puzzles, matching, dominoes, the obligatory Mah Jong, etc., and only had one platformer that was virtually unplayable. A complete waste of time, but I was going out of town and needed something to do. That's how they get you.
Some of these famiclones are designed to have 16 bit-ish graphics. The emulator EmuVT supports these types of graphics. There's more information about this on the Bootleg Games Wiki.
While I would have never bought or asked for one of these for myself, I would have been delighted for my grandparents to have got me one. In my day the equivalent was the Tiger LCD games. That's just what my old aunt's, uncle's and grandparents got us, and I loved it. Yes they were crap, but they were different. Kids today are too spoiled to appreciate different.
Man, your reactions on these vids are so authentic and legendary. "Pi**Ed off Santa 😂." Even for 30 bucks it would be too much for me to buy, but I somehow appreciate how much "creativity" these companies put in the design ogmf their devices and the selection of games they put on there. Watching this, I am so glad, that my grandmother back then knew what to buy me and would never get of these knock off consoles, but as you said some older parents only read "300 games" and see this as a discount price.
I had a couple of handheld games like this when I was a kid that would have compilations of Nokia phone type games like Snake and Breakout. It genuinely wasn't good for anything more that maybe two long car rides of entertainment but I look back pretty fondly on them; even back then there were probably better ways to play all those games but it wasn't like today where you could just run a bunch of arcade ROMs on a smartphone, so I see why those kinds of devices existed. I can't imagine what purpose this poorman's gameboy serves in this day and age, it's surreal seeing anyone still manufactures that sort of thing.
Ok I’m 20 and I impulse-bought on at a Cracker Barrel. It’s not as bad as you make it out to be, like the 256Baseball is probably the best game graphically on the thing. Table tennis is also really enjoyable, and this is coming from a diehard Nintendo fan. Also side note, my A&B buttons are reversed compared to yours 👍
This helps out a lot. Give me good idea for what not to give for Christmas. You should do a list good to buy for Christmas. But does give a good to idea to give to people who are on my bad list. Lol
The 5&Below device is being sold all over Facebook Marketplace from $18 to $25..... my local store doesn't have them. I asked them and they said they haven't received anything like this ... they do have some of those old brick games tho.....
The good thing about these systems are the packaging they are really nice and colorful and looks nice on the collectors shelf unlike those alibaba consoles usually comes in very bad packaging on white box or cheap photo prints
I wouldn't mind having that as a kid. I remember getting a neo geo pocket color instead of a game boy and thought it was cool . My parents couldn't afford much back when i was a kid so whatever i had for Christmas i was happy.
This is the perfect present fo the kid that you still don't like, but at least don't hate like the rest of the bunch. Thanks for the great present ideas. Your channel has helped me finding a present multiple times now!
Well, it does have solitaire. That is the best game on it. Oh, also has octopus, volleyball, robot, and power robot. Fun games in my opinion, but i haven't tried the other tabletop games.
I bought one today from a Walgreens. I’ve wanted one of these for a while because of my morbid curiosity. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be… It’s actually significantly worse than I thought it would be. I love it 😂
I got a couple of their older ones. never was impressed by them. but one that i do pick up and play now and then is the bubble bobble collection. since i got deep nostalgia for that game. 😁
Honestly, not all that bad for $20. Maybe I'm just not a graphics snob because I grew up playing and enjoying Intellivision games. I had a much older model of this from maybe a decade or so ago, and I used to use it on the train on my way to work, and on my way back home. It made the 3 hour train ride fly by. The weird thing about this, is that it still looks like it is using the same exact games as 10-ish years ago.
Agreed, man. Some people complain too much. I never played one of these but I had the idea of buying one for a kid I saw who is in poverty. I can tell he never owned video games. A few toys perhaps yes. Regardless of the dude in the video complaining, maybe you can tell me if this handheld device can actually be a good gift for the child. Cheers
I find there is one big problem with these devices when giving them to children. They expect all of them to have a touchscreen. My son enjoys going to a community center with other kids and I showed them my GBA collection, and every-single-one of them were pressing the screen to start the game instead of the start button. I'm just wondering who are these things for? Again little kids are too tuned to the touchscreen to know how to use these and I feel like the older generation like me (Madlittlepixel as well) know about proper emulation and other good devices like the Everdrive, which I have for my GBAs.
Your story reminded me of Scotty in "Star Trek IV". That was the one where they time traveled back to the 1980s to kidnap some whales. Anyways, one scene has Scotty trying to use an '80s PC. All the PCs in the future are voice activated so he kept saying, "Hello computer" expecting the computer to just work and getting miffed as it wouldn't respond. Finally someone suggested that he use the mouse. So he picks it up, holds it like a microphone close to his mouth, and says, "Hellloooo Computer."
My kids fight over playing this. They are more than willing to do extra chores to earn play time. (Maybe that is because they are not allowed to play games online or on smart devices.) Whatever the reason, they really like it.
Whenever I see these type of game devices, I can't help but wonder who these are actually for? I can't imagine any child being happy to receive one of these for Christmas instead of a Switch.
I freaking love these I don’t own this one yet as I refuse to pay over 15 bucks but I like to collect these I have the five below one and there is a almost identical one at Walmart for ten bucks at the checkouts
Well I have a similar cheap game as well as better ones. Now when I'm waiting for my clothes to dry at the laundry mat I bring the cheap one cause I don't want something to happen to the better one. Also when you said, " what did you expect"?, it made me think of,' I love Lucy ,where Ricky would say something like, "What did you spect"? Then Lucy would purposely mispronounce the word also and say,"I didn't spect anything ".
Some of those games LOOK good. Perhaps they lack the more important Fun aspect but I wonder if you give them a real shot are they any good. I doubt it. I think they probably are going to be very short games with little to no change to gameplay per level. But maybe i'm wrong.
Yeah I agree. Some of them would be amazing if you could turnoff the music but they are mostly bootlegs with music built in so you're screwed there. Some of the games are made with the intention to compete with AAA games like Mario in regions like Brazil, China, Russia, Malaysia etc.
@@icemuckbanggg I didnt pay attention to the music but sound is so important. Atari 2600-7800 kept getting better with the newer consoles...graphics began to look good but...the sound. I dont want to play these ports of the games. The sound sucks.
Some of these look pretty fun. Not that I’m gonna but this but if they were available for the everdrive I’d be on it and even pay the $15 or whatever this device cost.
I swear that art for Thunder Man looks like someone's My Hero Academia OC that's also a whitewashed clone of Guts from Berserk. Also. If you think this is bad. Another RUclipsr I follow named SCXCR made a multi part series playing every game on a plug & play system by a French company named Lexibook. And among other extras was a calculator that had its own music track. And SEVERAL of the games (Starting at the EIGHTH TITLE) used that same track (It also stole things like the bumper sound from Sonic 1 & the death jingle from Super Mario World) if anyone's curious. SCR DID make a single video that compiles all the parts.
I tried to give my fiance a loaded anbernic handheld. She touched it once and never again and all she played was the horizontal version of this handheld.
I acc. love these little things, do a degree. I have the older ver. of two of the My Arcades one look like this one only black with red light up buttons and the other is the Data East ver. Completely missing the point. Retro gamers (over the age of 30) aren't necessarily the target audience for this one. It was literally designed to keep kids quiet on road trips. Having said that, though I just said it's not really for retro gamers it definitely tickles the nostalgia centers of the brain. It looks like a game boy with purple buttons like the super Nintendo. The games are basically unlicensed clones of arcade classics like Space Invaders or r-type, pinches of Pac-Man and the like. The point of making is this feels very much like something I would have loved as a kid, similar to tiger electronics but updated with the backlit screen and multiple games on the same unit. Sure I'm glad I didn't pay full price for this not to mention I had a little bit of a Target gift card left so on the whole I only paid $12 for this and it's not worth much more than that other than a fun impulse purchase.
See, that's where you went wrong. You should have got the Classic Arcade instead of the Arcade Classic. Classic Arcade has Excitebike, Mighty Final Fight, and many other true NES games going for hundreds on eBay. Probably thousands and thousands worth of known games for just $10. Can't beat it.
