Wow that's a brilliant video... I am 50+ and an avid amateur runner🏃... About 100 kms per month. After my fun half marathons would feel stiffness in my ankles and knees. Now I know that i need not run after protein supplements but consume them holistically with other naturally occurring combinations... Thanku and best wishes🎉❤

Thank you for such an informative video. Social media seems to make us vegetarians worry that we are not eating enough protein but turns out thats not the case if we eat the traditional way our recipes were developed. Its about sticking to basics rather than fad diets.

    Very useful video
I really like how you uphold traditional food practices and how they are time tested.
As you said protein deficit maybe a gimmick of certain food industries. I have always wondered how to include the insane amount of protein generally recommended. More than that how to digest all that protein.
Thanks so much for clarifying this. ! Makes a lot of sense.

This is good for sedentary or mildly active people. But widely accepted science says that anyone into strenuous physical activity, especially strength and high endurance training that cause micro muscle and tissue trauma should be getting anywhere between 1 to 2 grams of protein per kg of bodyweight. That kind of requirement is often difficult to achieve purely through a regular diet and, therefore, the need for quality supplements. Please correct me if I'm wrong and why. Thanks

Wonderful video. Had never heard this protein fad before. As you have rightly pointed out, our traditional food used to have all the nutrients with the food items. With the modern lifestyle, we omit many of them and need supplements. A doctor had told the same thing that you did that it is the supplement industry that starts creating all these hypes just to create a market for these products. Thanks again for opening our eyes

Thanks for breaking it down in simple Indian ways. I tried eating high protein for 3 meals but that drastically increased my calorie count. You see protein rich foods are also calorie dense. If I add carbs to it, it's going to even make it more dense in calories? And my diet was sugar free.
    How do we address that?

    Hi Rujuta mam,
I understand your points and also agree, however we need to acknowledge that Indian diet doesn't actually fulfill any other requirements except for Carbs. I recently visited abroad and there I saw both men and women so so so much fitter than us. I myself have a very good diet and mostly follow the kind of food habits you suggest, I also fast once a week, now In shravan its twice a week, still I don't tend to have the kind of physique they had. The physique which Indian actors are spending lakhs to attain they have it naturally, like just the perfect body and skin. I understand genetics and all play an important role and not doing a direct comparison with the foreigners, however its true that there diet is mostly protein and fiber and soo less carbs. It is not just genetics but decades of following that kind of eating habits.

This Rutuja is like any other nutritionist. Doesn't being anything new to the table. Everything she says is already done by us. Everyone eats legumes, dal, rice, roti, nuts etc. All of these things are simple or complex carbs. The protein available in them in not complete in amino acid profile, is not bioavailable, and the ratio of carbs to protein is way too high, so one ends up eating excess carbs while getting low quality protein from such foods. All vegetarian sources are class 2 sources of protein, except soy which is class 1. Eating dal and rice together Doesn't solve the problem, as methionine in rice is not present in the right amount to complement other amino acids in dal.

This video is insightful, but it misses some context. It assumes that Indians previously ate an optimal diet and that Western influences caused a decline, which isn’t entirely accurate. While Western packaged foods like biscuits and cakes have impacted our diet, the major issue is the high consumption of carbs, such as large quantities of rice and roti. Even if legumes and vegetables are included, they are often accompanied by substantial servings of rice or chapatti, making them secondary to the carbs.
Additionally, the video doesn’t account for individual lifestyles. Protein needs vary based on activity level, age, and sex, so a working person may require more protein. The video also overlooks calorie intake. While legumes and pulses provide protein, they also contribute significant carbs, which requires balancing with overall carb intake.
Soya, a notable protein source, is not mentioned. Furthermore, the video ignores the fact that many people have limited time due to busy work schedules and dual-income households. For those who can afford it, good-quality protein powder can be a practical supplement. It’s crucial to emphasize how much protein one needs in grams to make tracking easier. Lastly, while global sustainability indices may not show a protein gap, it would be useful to examine specific statistics for India, including regional data.
