    I really like that Xbox proactively understood that their consoles were going to be scarce so they made games compatible on Xbox one or series x.
    We bought ours online as well. I’ve yet to see anything but digital in store as well. Congrats on the console and the new gaming laptop.

    Since emulation is legal in the US, saying that "you can't play Switch games legally on a PC" is somewhat of a misnomer. They're not native ports and require you to have dumped your switch games from a modified console, but it is legal to create backups and emulate games that you own. It's just not without a lot of setup!

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  2 года назад

      You are right. You can legally emulate games on a PC. I should have clarified that you can play Nintendo Switch games on a PC. All you need to is find a way to dump the rom from a Switch you've modified.

    Gaming laptops are very loud and not very power efficient making the battery a bit worse than other laptops.
    The best way to play games on pc is on a desktop because the fans will be just as quiet but PCs are very expensive if you want the best one.
    There are tons of cheap good pcs ($400) but you have to know where to look and how to make them.
    But the pc has the biggest backlog. You can almost play any games from any generation legally but you can also emulate all old Nintendo consoles (even switch) and Xbox 360/PS3 games too.

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  Год назад +1

      Yeah, that's a good point. A desktop is the ideal way to play PC games. Because I'm on the road all the time, I decided to get a gaming laptop. To my surprise, it's extremely quiet. My previous MSI was insanely loud when the fans kicked on. But this Lenovo Legion is even more quiet than my work laptop which isn't designed for gaming. Nice video as always, although I myself wouldn't call my older consoles in my collection "outdated", those poor consoles!! They're all sad cause you said that!! Hahaha! Anyway I was fortunate to pre-order a XSX when the opportunity came, and I actually pre-ordered a PS5 bundle from Gamestop, but canceled it as, adulting and didn't feel like paying over $800 for that at the time plus $400 for the XSX. So over $1,200, I might be doing well for myself but not that well haha! (Fun fact, with my raise recently, if I had my current pay then, it might certainly have played out a bit differently. Tee hee!!)I enjoy the XSX as now it even updates and optimizes X1 games to XSX standards dang near, as my Assassins Creed Odyssey got a "60 FPS update" and holy crap does it look amazing!! As well as Backwards compatibility with all of its previous generations, although not every game is supported but a good number are(Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 are great examples, I've even did 1440p streams of KOTOR 1 as well as the Xbox OG Conker Bad Fur Day to show that indeed it totally does that! For KOTOR I find interestingly ironic as a Switch version is out(which is awesome btw)so playing the original Xbox version in pretty much upscaled 4K is stellar. As always keep up the great work(also I've got 4 (or 5)external drives filled with the Skakin Bacon Media archives! The Series X really is the best Xbox console. Not only can you play your entire existing library of last generation games, but they all perform or look better to some degree, either through free upgrades or just by running on the console. The same applies to all the other backwards compatible games from the 360 and original Xbox, many of which haven't been officially remastered and re-released on other consoles. As a gamer with a massive backlog of games as far back as the original Xbox, the Series X was a no brainer for me as this was the way I wanted to experience my games from now on.
    People like shifting the conversation to exclusives and getting into a pissing contest about console brands, and don't get me wrong, lack of exclusives is a problem, but it's a problem Xbox has gone through great lengths to solve this generation. It's also not as much of a determining factor in buying a console as the fanboys would like you to think. Gaming has a far wider reach beyond first-party libraries and Xbox has been extremely pro-consumer in recent years that the Xbox brand isn't exactly confined to just a console anymore. How far you go with Xbox is entirely up to the player that you don't even need an Xbox console to enjoy Xbox content anymore.
    And as much as Gamepass isn't a service I need or want, I'd be remiss to say it isn't currently the best deal in gaming. Whatever your situation is, Gamepass is a cheap way to gain access to tons of video games both big and small and with day one access to Xbox's first-party library. It's honestly the best time to be a gamer and never has there ever been a better time to invest in both the Xbox and Playstation in the same generation.
    As someone who made Xbox their primary console of choice with the Xbox 360 for the majority of third-party releases, the Xbox Series X feels like a reward for sticking with Xbox with just how much of my entire Xbox library can be played on this one machine and with so many cool benefits, including quick resume, which allows me to jump between whatever is in my console and the many digital games I've amassed through the years, whether they were heavily discounted or free with an Xbox Live Gold subscription. I could be playing Sonic Generations, Splinter Cell, or Elden Ring and jump into some Halo or Gears with a friend and then go straight back into the game I was playing without having to reset either game. I'd imagine this is extremely handy with Gamepass and all the free to play multiplayer games too. It really is such a great console.

      @NeanderMeander  2 года назад +1

      Wow! This is a great comment! Thanks for sharing your perspective. I agree with you, the pro-consumer stance Xbox has taken this generation is amazing! I became an Xbox player with the original and I haven't looked back. I was coming off of the PS2 and wanted something different. I'm glad I did because I have all those old games that play incredibly on the Series X. Thanks again for the comment!

    I actually think it's to a console brand's detriment to have their games available on PC as well as console. It strips away value and takes away the bespoke nature of console games. Thank goodness at least Nintendo doesn't put their stuff on PC.

    • @macwerlane
      @macwerlane 2 года назад +2

      Why would you want games to be locked away from other players? Doesn't the value of a game come from how fun it is and the impact it can make rather than who gets to play it? All the developers of those games are doing is giving us more options for playing those games. Companies make games exclusive so you buy their console to buy their games, pay for their online service, and pay for their accessories. It's good business, but not good for all players.

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  2 года назад

      I see what you're saying and I agree to a point. Nintendo doesn't put their games on any other console or PC so you have to buy Nintendo's consoles. Which gives those game some significant value because only a specific group of people can play them. Luckily for me, I like Nintendo's consoles so it's no big deal. There are other people who can't afford to buy all the options to game on. Having games available on PC does allow for more people to play games. Now that I'm typing this, I don't know where I stand. I'm going to think this over and probably make a video about it. This is a really good comment!

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  2 года назад +3

      I also see what you saying and agree to a point. Having the option to play my Xbox games on a PC really let me get my foot in the door on the new Xbox games. If it weren't for the PC versions of those games I probably wouldn't have bought the Series X. I'm glad Microsoft if allowing more people to play their games.

    • @Level1Sword
      @Level1Sword 2 года назад

      @@macwerlane Because I see companies like Sony and Microsoft asking themselves one day, "Why are we spending so much money in R&D for these consoles that only stay relevant for a few years?" If they are successful enough on PC, there's a a very real chance the consoles we know as Xbox and PlayStation cease to exist, and we just get those games on PC. Then you can only play those games on a $1000+ machine that is susceptible to hacks, updates that may legit fry your components (I've had this happen to me), and games will truly be locked away to one platform. So, in a roundabout way, I'm actually for games being available to everybody. If you can afford a $1500 gaming PC, you can afford a Switch.

    • @macwerlane
      @macwerlane 2 года назад +1

      @@Level1Sword there will always be a casual gaming crowd for the consoles and there will be hardcore players who play on consoles. It's about options. If sony and microsoft chose to put some of their exclusives on PC there's clearly more to maintaining their market share than just having exclusives. It's a bit unrealistic to think they'll go out of business because of that considering the price point of higher end PCs and the amount of casual players who just need an affordable machine to play. Not every exclusive will make it to PC because competition breeds ambition but it's good to see some games come over

    I ended up selling my Xbox One and didn't move on to the next generation precisely because Microsoft was offering me the games I wanted to play on my PC as well. If I want to play on my TV, well I have an older PC tucked under there that I use mainly for emulation, though it is still a fairly capable PC gaming system too. I was going to get a PS4 to get some of the titles I'd missed out on having been on the Xbox side of things but then Sony started releasing their games I wanted to play on PC.
    There's no point for me to own a current gen console any longer. Sure I might have to wait a few years for that must have game to come out but by then it is feature complete and usually comes bundled with the DLC.
    Part of this I feel comes from I live in quite a small flat (apartment for you folk in the US) and the only way to separate a PC and a console would be to have one in the bedroom, a place I'd rather keep free from distractions.
