@Wally DM
I would have the diamond be quite large and it is plugging a hole filled with oil. So when the diamond hits the water it freezes the water and then the oil falls on top. Then have either a monster based in fire light the oil on fire so they are trapped in burning oil or have a vial of oil of impact come out at the end of the oil slick so they have a chance to catch the VERY oily vial to prevent the explosion/fire.
You just took this trap to the next level. And... it's wonderful. Well done!!!
Yep, make the gem kinda big (maybe so big that it can't be carried by just one character) and it is plugging a hole in the ceiling that can't be seen until it is knocked loose which is where the Mephits come from. Also maybe am artic wind and maybe even snow come from the hole lowering visibility making the Mephits harder to hit.
Ooooh. I like that plugging the hole and the Mephits come out. Great idea there. I dig it. The temperature rapidly drops as snow and ice storm the room! Cheers!
This is a great idea.
An interesting twist put the gem in the water, and have the trap trigger when it is picked up and removed from the water.
Oh dang! I dig it... Having this trap plus the variation with the gem in the water? Perfect. Well done, Mason!
I like it. The magic in the gems keeps the water from freezing!
Love the shirt! Also this trap will be perfect for my frozen fairy fountain dungeon.
Haha, thank you Ziggy! :-) Also... sounds like a perfect fit, absolutely. Hope it serves you well. Cheers!
So demolition man meets dnd, love it
Interesting! Now I need to go back and watch Demolition Man again. Cheers!
I like this, simple to create and add to any campaign easily. I like the idea of needing the Gem later. Most likely if the party got stuck in the frozen water, they would leave the gem behind and have to go back for it. The room looks great.
Thank you my friend. I'm all about simple and easy encounters to add to a game. Glad you dig it. Also... might work in Icewind Dale, lol!
Kept trying to click on your shirt =P
Fun trap, lots of good idea in there of how to use the freezing gem.
Haha, yes! But... skip the ads, don't skip me. lol. Cheers, my friend!
I reckon I would make the gem emit light to hammer in the fact that this is a magical item, and I would replace the bats with moths bumping into it just for the heck of it. I don't think my players would be able to resist a glowing shiny. They love shinies. Great video as always, glad I joined the discord!
Hey there Prippy! Hot diggity I love the moths drawn to light idea. The shinies are good... we all love them. Must. Have. Shiny. lol. Thanx for the great comment... and I am glad you joined the Discord too! Great to have you sharing ideas with us in Discord land. On to the next!
If you're going to use some kind of ice creature, maybe when the water freezes, the creature kinds generates out of the ice
I like that idea. Kinda like an Ice Mephit or Ice Elemental. That would be neat!
The gem is Ice-9
Totally stealing this for my mega dungeon
Haha, yes! This should prove to be an amazing portion of your dungeon, for sure. Cheers, my friend!
Love your t-shirt, Wally. I use the Brave browser so I do not see YT's ads, so I avoid it that way.
Haha, thanks! One of my favorite shirts as well. Also, good idea on the ad blockers... especially those ones that interrupt the video... not a fan of them. Cheers!
@@WallyDM Brave Browser is a Chrome clone with the Google "hooks for trolling data" removed which is why the ads don't show.
Another legendary t shirt
I am really trying to express myself with this one. :-)
I like the idea of it doing damage if they catch it. Perhaps the PC's hand is covered in a block of ice. Or they catch it with both hands and both are frozen together. That would effectively take a PC out of the fight with the mephits until someone uses an action to help them free their hands.
I like both of those ideas and think you are right. We definitely need some sort of cold damage ready should they catch the gem. Hmmm.... Thanks for the great comment. Cheers!
interesting, Wally! Thank you
Glad you liked it! This one is fun, for sure. :-)
I think i would double down on the party using the magical diamond to freeze water. I love giving my players magic items and then putting them in positions where they have to use them/lose them or things are more difficult.
They go through the chamber, the trap is sprung, they have the encounter, then my party would definitely recover the diamond. The next room would be a rushing underground river approx 40 ft wide and they would have to decide to use the diamond to freeze the water (that would begin to crack right away from the pressure building behind it) to cross, or have a more difficult challenge so they can keep the diamond.
Also, love the shirt
Yep, I think you are on to something here Mr. Mike. I really dig the river idea over the pond... adds to the tension of the encounter when they see the ice starting to crack, lol. Also... thanx, the shirt is so true! Skip those ads! lol. Cheers!
Best tshirt ever
Haha! Right?
Sounds interesting for a lower level party
Absolutely. Should be a fun encounter. Thanks Rivers!
I Like the idea of a prismatic gemstone changing colours in the ceiling, if its removed it rolls its chances of what it does when it hits the water depending what colour it was on impact, my group love elemental puzzle and thus i keep making labyrinths of trial of the elements for them, many creatures are born from elements so they never know what to expect when entering such a room filled with water, example if the gem was red when hitting the water it represents fire, fire hitting water thats cold could steam up the room creating a range of creatures or does it evaporate the water sinking the stone to the floor touching the earth creating something else, if they go to pick it up maybe a Bulett grabs their arm… possibilities are endless 🥰
That's an interesting idea! I like the chaos element of it. Not knowing what will happen until it hits the water... this could be a lot of fun. Well done Clumzyoshi. Thank you for watching. Cheers!
Great video as always! Really interesting trap idea could definitely have some fun with it.
Absolutely. And... another trap that I sprung too soon and can't use against you in a one-shot, lol. Also... welcome back!
Brilliant! Reminds me of my love for the Otiluke's Freezing Sphere spell.
Interesting. I will need to look that up. What edition is it from?
@@WallyDM oh it's in D&D 5e! Sixth-level evocation spell. Sometimes publications will omit the Otiluke part and call it Freezing Sphere.
Thorn rules!
Agreed!
nice trap!
Thank you! I still need to run this one myself, at some point.
Amazing!! 😮
For sure! :-)
Hello Wally, the background looks exactly the same to me, lol. I like this trap, it's quick and easy to set up. Being restrained will definitely turn up the pressure on the player's. I made a trap over at your discord based off your video (#6).
Thanks Wally you have a wonderful day!
lol, I did good then! I was trying to recreate my background to the best of my abilities. :-) I like this trap as well. I am hoping to bounce over to Discord soon and take a look at what you posted. Cheers Matt!
That D20 lamp is awesome. Where can I get one?
They are on Amazon. Here is a link for you: amzn.to/3EKeZFA
This is a great trap. I would alter it just slightly though, given the "evil DM" inspiration. Of course you ask if they catch the gem. The twist however is that this has a consequence either way. If they don't catch it, it triggers the trap and the monsters. If they do cath it, the trap doesn't trigger, but now they have more enemies to face in the next area.
Haha, yes. I dig it. This could definitely go wrong a number of ways, courtesy of the evil DM. The only safe way through is to just leave it alone, well.... maybe...
@@WallyDM oh, no, I was thinking they have to either encounter the mephits or what ever ice monster there or deal with them in a group with other monsters. One way they fight them in that room with just that group. The other way they have a numbers issue to contend with as well. Either way they are challenged and thus the stakes are raised. This would make the valuable gem seem like an actual reward rather than a freebie.
Like to dislike ratio says it all. Awesome trap, it's already cemented in my mind.
If they catch the Diamond, how would they know that it freezes water in order to use it later to their advantage?
Great trap, but what if my greedy players would want to keep the gem for use outside the dungeon?
Then, it could be an epic moment! I would be curious to see what my players would do with it (and the repercussions). If they forget about it, then there may come a time when a trap drops them into water, or perhaps a rainstorm is enough to trigger it and they send an entire eco-system out of whack. Hope you found these ideas fun. Thank you Yossi, always appreciate your comments. Cheers!
The original intention was that the 'gem' was a piece of hyper-frozen ice, cut to look like a gem to tempt adventurers. It can last just the single room, the whole dungeon, or whatever you need it to be.
Great video mate. My players will not like any traps.
Thank you, my friend. This was a fun one, for sure.

Why bother with bats when the water reflects the ceiling?
