Our adventurers are exploring caverns when they find an underground lake with a pebbled beach. The clear blue water features four tiki totem heads piercing through the top of the water. An ancient civilization kept their treasures buried away for centuries. Hieroglyphics and a few magical auras hint at a way in. Will your players be able to unlock the mystery?

you've got all my votes! good luck Wally!
Can they also use the Magic Stone spell?
And if they take some of those magic pebbles with them, do they deal the same damage as the spell?
@@robbechristiaens6384 I like the idea of the Magic Stone spell! It is up to the DM, but if a player used it to activate the totems, I would allow it. Great idea Robbe. Cheers!
@@robbechristiaens6384 Thank you for the votes Robbe! I sincerely appreciate your support!
I didn’t wait. I paused the video, and went to vote. In the process, I discovered a few products I want to check out, too. I’m wondering how the nominees for each category are chosen, because there are a few categories your book isn’t in that I think it was better than some of the ones there.
Realistically, do you know how it is to make a rock skipp a certain number of times. I think i would make a minor change to this. The bullseye would be made of 4 different rocks, but very subtle. Maybe all marble but pink, blue, balck lg grain and fine grain black marble. The skipping stones would also be marble and the matching marble type into the correct mouth.... BUT opinion for the way WALLY has it. Do you think if they figure out the number of skips, could a mage hand be used to bounce a stone up and down in the water be used? Another variation, the number of rings equals the number of stone to be skipped into the mouth rather than the number of skips
I love all of these ideas Craig. Ya know, I was hesitant on doing a video on a puzzle from the book, but glad I did. You've provided me with a lot of fantastic feedback! Now, more than ever, I think this is a perfect example of a puzzle that rewards player creativity. If I were running this, both the mage hand trick and the number of stones (rather than skips) would both be acceptable answers. And, I also enjoy the different rocks and colors. Great feedback and encounter-brain-storming here. I dig it.
I absolutely love this puzzle!! I think I'll have my players make a "to hit"roll to see if they make it in the mouth and then roll a d8 to determine how many skips it took to make it there.
Yes! I love it Chad. A hit roll is a good idea. Hope you and your players enjoy it. Cheers!
When i came across this in the book i thought if someone made this puzzle they are probably very fun loving, so i made this the puzzle to enter a bards colleges “secret adventuring society”.
Also i votes for you!
Thank you Mr. Mike! I appreciate your support. Also, the Secret Adventuring Society is AWESOME! lol. I hope the puzzle served you well. :-)
finally, a good use for the Mage Hand cantrip! :D
Haha, right! Finally. :-)
I like this puzzle a lot. My only issue is if players dont have detect magic available to them. Maybe earlier in the dungeon there's a wand of detect magic. Or maybe the stones have an engraving of tikis on them to make it more distinguishable without relying on a certain spell. Great video as always!
Ooooh, I like that some of the stones could be marked. Great idea Ace! And, thank you for your support!
Fun puzzle for the one running it. I would think the opinion of the party will depend on if you have any puzzle solvers in the group or not though.
@@spencerbryan226 I'd argue that this is the case for any puzzle. It's important for a dm to know their group. If a dm doesnt have any players in their group that enjoys puzzles then they shouldnt use puzzles. That's how I've done it at least
@@TheAceman1100 oh, sorry, I didn't realize I replied to your comment. My mistake. I thought I posted an independent comment. Also, most parties are mixed. There is usually one or more people who are into puzzles. One cannot negate puzzles if you have even a single puzzle solver. Also, puzzles are a hallmark of D&D from "the before times" (lol) and I would not enjoy running a game if every single player only wanted to hack and slash
Nice video
Good luck with the awards
Thank you Rivers! I appreciate the support. :-)
At first I was thinking the number of rings was indicating the order to hit the mouths in. I also considered the number of skips.
Could also make sense to make the DC harder for more skips needed.
Great point, my friend. There are definitely a lot of different possibilities with regards to the DCs and the skillsets needed. With regards to solutions, I feel that there is a wide array of acceptable ways the players could solve it that should satisfy the DM. Cheers!
I would make the stones generate an electrical charge, which would power the platform to rise. I think instead of a door I'd include a hatch.
I really dig the hatch idea. Maybe even make it a submarine that has been lost in place and time! Well done Thorn. Cheers!
nice video and nice puzzle, im preparing a dungeon of an ancient civilization for my next session and this is great! i think maybe y will make the rings light up every time a rock skips, one skip, one ring lights in each totem, so the players can know they need to match rings and skips, thanks!
Oh wow, what a great idea Augusto! That is a brilliant way to give them a clue as to what to do. Well done!
Another great puzzle video I can't figure out. I have voted for your book in the two sections.
Thank you my friend. I sincerely appreciate your support! Hope we win this!
Cool puzzle but let me ask one question. Once they figuered out what to to, where's the possibility of failure? They can make as many check as they want until all stones are in. So let me make a suggestion, the amount of stones on the beach is limited and stones that miss the totems are lost in deep water.
Ah yes, that is certainly feasible. Perhaps the beach has a limited number of "magic rocks" that will work... Or, a few other ideas. All of the clanking and dinging from the rocks echoes through the chamber. It could draw the attention of nearby wandering monsters. IF it is a monster that is a lot stronger than them, then the urgency to get the correct rocks into the totems asap comes into play. Or, perhaps a miss will result in some type of a temporary curse bestowed upon them by a deity. Lots of fun things. Cheers Marcel!
