I think that since Luna was torturing herself with the Tantabus that it's very likely that she shunned herself for a while and really did have an inner conflict having allowed herself to become so consumed in jealousy of her sister and struggling to forgive herself for what she did. Guilt is very powerful, so I think Luna did need time to heal and deal with her self before she resumed her princess duties. Great job as always, Sir. Take Care

i've always liked to imagine that nightmare moon is still inside of luna, i even had something of a fan episode mocked up in my head where a villain appeared who not only was imune to the magic of light, but fed on it...thus the elements of harmony were worse the ineffective against it, and that only those who had been touched by the dark could face it, by conquering there inner darkness, harnessing that which they fear and turning the dark to good, as to who would be faceing it down i figured starlight, luna, and rarity all have been touched by darkness, even if nightmare rareity isnt show cannon she has been touched by the dark magic of the inspiration manifestaiton spell, she knows what that black power can do and is all to familar with its temptations...together the 3 learn to tap that dark power within asuming new forms, neither nightmare nor harmonic, a new darkness like the shadow cast by pale moon light soft and serene
I heared this song for the first time when watching the animatic with Pinkie vs Pinkamina and I knew it was from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The singing its at its best, got me listening in loop for weeks
This one was meant to be done like a stage play, very close up, very intense, lots of subtle movements, etc. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the Nightmare Moon model didn't have her hair. Another SFM "Changing the World For You" has the hair added in with Adobe Aftereffects and it looks amazing...
I think it's also good to know that the song itself is based on Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde so yes, it's literally a struggle within because just like Jekyll, she's fighting her own Hyde. ;)
I think it would be great if you reacted to the most recent animatic of this particular song by Dragonfoxgirl herself, the one who created the cover. it's much more expressive and epic to watch and listen to.
Looking at it, I have some associations with a monologue Smigol with second part of the Lord of the Rings, when he threw out Gollum with his mind (at least temporarily). Well, here it was the opposite.

If you haven't seen the Dragonfoxgirl original cover and animatic I highly recommend it; I think you'd enjoy it. And I don't know whether you've seen the inkpotts animatics for The Count of Monte Cristo or Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, but I highly recommend those too if you haven't seen them. The Ink Potts animatics are really good, and they just keep getting better and better (especially the most recent one that came out about a year or so ago). Ink Potts has been a round for a while I think so you may have already seen some of those, but if you haven't I encourage you to watch them. :D

Hey Apple Geek. The thing with the spells and the book.Yeah, we all know Luna has a penchant for using spells, but what this was, was a MLP spell version of Jekyll and Hyde's potion in spell form. With Nightmare Moon interrupting Luna's attempt to cast a type of banishment spell on her. The whole video is a MLP version of the Broadway play 'Jekyll & Hyde'. In an earlier posting I gave you a URL for one version of it, played and sung by David Hasselhoff of all people. Who'd have thunk that HE could sing? Did you spot the Apple Bloom? No? I didn't either the first couple of times I saw this. Go back and carefully watch Nightmare Moon's head as she sings. At one point the view raises enough to see an Apple Bloom figurine on Luna's shelves. :) Luna and NM as the classical Jekyll and Hyde... pretty well done, other than the missing tail and mane on Nightmare Moon. And if that's my only 'beef' about this video, then that's pretty small potatoes, ya know? well, this has gone on far enough, the Frank Pony
The bit about the book is spot on (glad it was brought up). that was the intent. she was going to try to use a spell to banish NMM. a reference to the potion in the original. and yes, Hasselhoff's performance was great. his was one of the videos i studied when researching for this. that (and some of the other vids) were the inspiration for the mane flipping near the end. (they used a similar thing in the plays). and i swear when i die someone is going to scratch "Where is Nightmare Moon's mane and tail?" into my tombstone. lol thats by far been the most asked question. i didn't think it was that big of a deal when i did it. i had to leave it out due to unfixable problems with the model's mane and tail. but i figured the content was more important. plus it could be justified with it possibly being a hallucination or a bad play costume or whichever. lol also, you weren't the only one to miss the pony in the background. it's Sweetie belle BTW. that shot originally showed the missing top of the set i built for the vid (the wall just ended in a black void). i could have changed the camera, but i loved the angle. so decided to make it an easter egg. added a catwalk and some stage lights. plus SB. for context this was being worked on just after the ep where SB had been making a play had aired. :)

I only started looking for SB when someone pointed out to me that it was in there. I think that I watched the video at least a dozen times before I found it :) Nicely played Raptor. The magic column for NMM was a very nice touch, as was the whirling mists that she sailed in and out of. And yes, the flipping mane was a very nice touch, as well as changing the eyes for each character. The firelight reflections were pretty well done as well, but my favorite 'bit' of the video was Luna and herself in the mirror. Oh, and the swaying body as Luna walked to the mirror across the room. Dragonfoxgirl did a wonderful rendition of the song, and she should be lauded for her prowess and vocal range. again, thanks Raptor. the Frank Pony
