azalru yet it only does 150 at the top end when it's like a 700hp car. LAME. A 2005 golf gti will do 155mph with 200 hp and it's a gti relatively modern one so you know it would be good to drive, good on gas, comfortable, easy to run, and practical.

A lighter, more powerful car is faster than a heavier, less powerful car. I wonder what kind of results would we have?
It doesn't matter that one is a Porsche, and the other one is a Merc, heavier+less power= slower. Don't have to be a NASA scientists to know that!
1) Track, tires and weather - traction
2) Gearbox - shifting speed, gearing
3) Launch control
Heavier and less powerful car can easily be quicker in 1/4 mile drag race
Patarei Chicane both AWD, dry track with grippy tires, with incredible launch control, one dual clutch, the other one is a 9 speed I believe. If it was on another settings, if they where both driven by novice maybe there would be a difference, but this is not the case, not with this cars. Maybe any other brand I would've said maybe. But not in this case.

Patarei Chicane The Porsche launch control I know is as reliable as a Swiss watch, and a friend of mine has the E63 (non s) and so far so good. Hasn't failed once, so, I would say very good too! I'll let you know any update (so far the car has 3 months)
Patarei Chicane you forgot the mention the engine^ how that power is delivered can have big impact aswell, torque at x rpm etc.

Turbo S panamera would beat it. Other than that, other sports cars are way faster than Mercs, espcially their coupe line and 2 door sports car lines.

ΔLEXBΔNZ well, nobody seems to have gotten hands on the New turbo SE panamera. Plus even fully equipped e63s is still cheaper than a Panamera turbo without any additional equipment. Heck, the e63s isn’t even much more expensive then normal panamera. Furthermore, i don’t think they sell a e63 without s in the us, which means that the e63s is the high performance base model of e class, and it is what panamera turbo is to panamera. Porsche's strength comes in track performance, not plain horsepower. Nonetheless panamera is not a track oriented car, it doesn’t really embody Porsche’s strength. In the area of luxury sedan, merc knocked it out of the park with e63s this time.

By your dubious logic, it would be fair to compare the Renault Megane GT to the Ford GT, because the letters behind their names are exactly the same and it would be horrendously unfair to the best performance models between Mercedes and BMW because one is a M and the other is an AMG.

Uh, what? The Veyron went out of production two year ago.. What kind of relevance would that have? Chiron maybe, but even for a magazine like EVO, getting hold of one of those is extremely difficult. There's still a several year long waiting list for them.

Actually someone did try. It was at the Nurburgring and managed less than 3 minutes of a lap before hitting reduced power mode. I'm struggling to think of many tracks away from a drag strip where it could be competitive with much more than a warm hatchback.
Si Raff Complete bullshit. A Norwegian guy took his customer bought, completely stock P85D on stock, 19" tires to the Nordschleife and ran an 8:50 lap. That's an amateur driver on a touristfahren lap (with tons of other cars out). Went there with my 2010 Cooper S, could barely crack 10 mins. Google Tesla Model S P85D Laps Nurburgring In 8:50, you'll see the video.
I have to say, I was lucky enough to get a ride in the exact same spec E63 AMG S down the strip at Santa Pod for the Piston heads Sunday service. It beat every car that ran that day and it launches so hard, the nose lifts up like a speed boat. I cannot imagine what it would be like to drive on the British roads. Amazing car, mind blowing. I hope the new M5 with its switchable AWD system will be able to match it. We will see!

lmao you got that mixed up. E class is better and cheaper too in nearly every single way. Looks are subjective however its fair to say the e class interior looks a lot better. The e class has way more features like ambient lighting, perfume dispenser, stone massage just to name a few and is light years ahead of the Porsche in technology with features like autopilot, air bag seat belts, magic body control (which scans the road ahead for bumps and prepares the suspension ahead of so you can even go over a speed bump and not even know it!)... I could go on and on. Its also more comfortable and luxurious and better sounding than the Porsche.
Its a lot more car for the money than the Porsche. Despite not being designed to compete with it it obliterates it in practically everyway! And thats just the tip of the ice burg! Just wait for the 4 door gt from mercedes which will blow the panemera out of the water even more!

I'm a Porsche fanboy as well but only to its 911's however in this battle I'd rather have the AMG as well.
As an Audi fanboy, I'd much rather have the Panamera for the handling and practicality (would get the Turismo wagon).
Meh, the Amg looks very good and is just overall a good car. But in the end, maybe they are not the same cars. I think you have more luxury in the Porsche and just better overall quality. Depends also on your age, i think a young guy would take the Amg, but a 50yo man would most likely go for the Turbo
