T R LFA is more underappreciated due to it not really being in the limelight. Had it been sold more they might still be produced today and definitely would beat most cars on the road if Lexus stayed at development of the V10
@@xoukilong that was a mark 1 gtr with 460 hp or something like that. This gtr has 560 hp i think which would smash the lfa. According to some videos the lfa does the 1/4 mile in 12.5 sec. Anyway i would choose the lfa over any of the cars in this race for obvious reasons ;)

So I guess you wasted that 15000 foot runway to only run 1/4??? Should have ran to the half and mile then done break downs at the quarter, half and mile for comparisons. Even running one mile, you still had another 2 miles left. Waste of a nice venue
They mostly used it because the shuttle runways are the only ones I know of that are wide enough for all those cars to run side by side. It's so wide in fact that a typical small single-engine plane can take off and land on the runway... going perpendicular!

Laugh 25x Teslas, well EV cars in general have absolutely abysmal top-end speed, look at the VW id.r (an electric lmp) and then look at the Porsche 919 evo. Notice how much more top-end speed the 919 has, while being made by the same corporation. There is very little gap in expertise yet the 919 has a highr top speed. The cause is the ICE engine it has. Of course it does make use of a hybrid system but there are a ton of pure ICE power cars that smoke EVs. Most modern supercars and quite a few sports cars have much higher top speeds, maybe even by over 100 km/h. There is also not a real benefit in pollution, due to the high emissions from the mining of the lithium and zinc used in the batteries. On the topic of zinc, many batteries use child labor from Africa, which includes electric car batteries. I do have some respect for the EVs but i think the 12 year-olds portraying them as the second coming of Jesus Christ are a little bit misinformed.

Now yeah I do agree many EVs have much lesser top speed that their ICE counterparts but you do realize that EVs have been in real business for like a decade whereas some ICE car companies have been making cars for like more than a century! It is now that we are seeing so many ICE car companies taking EVs seriously and for many of them it is their first time doing so. Also do you realize that for a lot of people top speeds don't matter because they may not ever even have roads that have such high speed limits so it's irrelevant to them and majority of EVs have enough top speeds to drive without crossing the speed limits. There are several EVs like Tesla Model S Plaid (200mph/322km/h) which have quite high top speeds and insane performance (2.1sec 0-100km/h) which you won't expect from such a sized and heavy practical 4-door family sedan

The thing with the GT3 RS in drag races is that it doesn't have enough hp unlike the Turbo S, also it's na. It's a track-focused car. Instead, bring the all-mighty GT2 RS

tesla roadster? 2-4 Years, Hennesey F5 1-3 years (if ever) Ford GT - real contender, Demon real contender if they can get a good launch, ZR1 is a track focused car way to much downforce to compete with these other cars in a straight line.
It is all mixed up from different shots - look at 5:04 you see Tesla jumps in front of everyone but suddenly at 5:08 it's the Turbo S that jumps first. At 5:40 you can see Turbo S slows down (Porsche has PDK so it' not changing gears's fault). I think each race showed different result so what you can see is editing shots to match general scores. If it was 1 mile race or even longer Tesla would take one of last places cause it's limited and it would be interested to see!

Think about it, that car had a range of 120 miles in the 1990s era! Where is that battery tech now? All Chevron and Texaco, who bought out NiMh battery companies, and dismantled them.
Tesla will *never* agree to that. Tesla knows their motors can't sustain their power above 5,200rpm, and they know what speed that is with their 9.71 final drive, and they know how much their cars' power drops by the 1/4 mile mark. Heck, when Top Gear tested a Tesla Model X against a Challenger Hellcat, they never stated the length of the race, and I'm pretty sure it was less than 1/4 mile. I'm also not convinced the race in *this* video was 1/4 mile.

If you extend a 1/4 mile then its not 1/4 mile anymore, its an entirely different category. and yes, no one is questioning the fact that most super cars will beat a tesla in the long run, (for now) but again, were, talking quarter mile right now, tesla is the quarter mile king, the 0-60 king . why is that important? because in a realistic setting, one of the easiest way to test your car's performance without breaking the law, is in its 0-60 speed. you can have tons of fun getting onto the freeway getting from 0-60 in less than 3 seconds. only a handful of cars offer that. you can test 0-60 every day, on your commute to work, never breaking the law. and you can get that type of crazy performance on a middle class salary! the only other cars that offer that experience under the 150k range that i can think of are the nissan GTR and the hellcat. And a tesla can beat both of them in the quarter mile, and 0-60.
@@rx-7kinda also, you have to keep in mind that electric car tecnology is in its infancy. im sure there was a time when horses used to beat cars at races. but then cars surpassed horses and never looked back. within 20 years, there wasnt a single car that was slower than a horse. and electric is heading the in the same direction. teslas have been around for 10 years, in another 10 years, their performance will be so wild that comparing them to gas powered cars would be unthinkable. that is the reason that a lot of performance cars are slowly switching to electric. the challenger already agreed to make the switch, soon enough all your favorite cars will be electric only. you can be mad about it, or you can use it to your advantage. and just so you dont get depressed, there will always be gas cars around, just like there are still rolexes (rolex is the only watch manufacturer in the world that refused to ever make a digital watch) but, a 20.00 casio digital watch, will always be more precise and reliable than a rolex, no matter how you much you engineer a rolex.

So many wrong things in this race. Different footages(races) edited togherer to look like one race....One footage they show the Tesla launch fist,other shows 911 turbo s launch first. Second,the footage of Porsche slowing down is CLEARLY visible and maybe 488 slowed down as well. Very entertaining to watch but that race was BS ;)

They just edited different drags together because it's very dangerous for them to run at the same time and so close to each other. If one car or driver has a problem, it could cause a huge accident for every vehicle. So they just use movie magic to look like they all raced at the time but the times are accurate.

I know no one from Motor Trend will ever read this, but on the off-chance...Could you guys run the race to a full Mile? I mean, what would it hurt? You'd still get Quarter Mile times and speeds (obviously), but the additional performance data is something I think everyone would enjoy. Great series.
SomeColbyGuy it's a good idea but you don't come off the line in full mile as you do in the quarter. It's a different focus. It would have to be two different races
For people bringing up the Demon. It ran 9.6 on a fully prepped drag strip, at sea level, in a 40 degree December evening, on drag slicks, front skinnies and 100 octane fuel. I highly doubt it'd keep up with the top three cars in this race.
I wonder how many races they did. You can see that the Porsche 911 didn't launch the first time. Tesla just takes off at 5:05 , then in the next few scenes you see the 911 right next to the Tesla.
Love the series and idea of the Greatest Drag race but the editing is horrible, to many jump cuts and back cuts can't track any of the cars acceleration peaks.

Not as high performing as the P100D Ludicrous+ Also in that article the track is 4.1 miles long and as the guys in this video said, the Tesla is quick but not fast, so any longer than 0,25 miles and the others catch up. That being said, the Tesla model S is not a race car. It's a family sedan.

Sadly I've never seen MT test the auto Z06...show what they've gotten with it in straight-line performance. 10.95 is GM's claim...would like to see what it does in MT standard testing..since they run all their times on the same strip of blacktop. It's Frustrating that Motor trend only keeps running the same model/trim cars and never runs the other options.

right, if we judged purely on performance, the winner would be the one with the highest highpower. That's not how a "driver's car" works. This isn't about electric or gasoline either, the Dodge Charger hellcat is about as bad as a driver's car as the Tesla Model S is, although the Charger is still better because it has gears you can actually take control of and the powerband to keep track of. It is all mixed up from different shots - look at 5:04 you see Tesla jumps in front of everyone but suddenly at 5:08 it's the Turbo S that jumps first. At 5:40 you can see Turbo S slows down (Porsche has PDK so it' not changing gears's fault). I think each race showed different result so what you can see is editing shots to match general scores. If it was 1 mile race or even longer Tesla would take one of last places cause it's limited and it would be interested to see!

Tesla will *never* agree to that. Tesla knows their motors can't sustain their power above 5,200rpm, and they know what speed that is with their 9.71 final drive, and they know how much their cars' power drops by the 1/4 mile mark.
Heck, when Top Gear tested a Tesla Model X against a Challenger Hellcat, they never stated the length of the race, and I'm pretty sure it was less than 1/4 mile.
I'm also not convinced the race in *this* video was 1/4 mile.

Second,the footage of Porsche slowing down is CLEARLY visible and maybe 488 slowed down as well. Very entertaining to watch but that race was BS ;)

They just edited different drags together because it's very dangerous for them to run at the same time and so close to each other. If one car or driver has a problem, it could cause a huge accident for every vehicle. So they just use movie magic to look like they all raced at the time but the times are accurate.

Ethan King. True the Zl-1 that did 11.5 was the 10spd and the Z06 was the manual. Sadly I've never seen MT test the auto Z06...show what they've gotten with it in straight-line performance. 10.95 is GM's claim...would like to see what it does in MT standard testing..since they run all their times on the same strip of blacktop.
It's Frustrating that Motor trend only keeps running the same model/trim cars and never runs the other options.

right, if we judged purely on performance, the winner would be the one with the highest highpower. That's not how a "driver's car" works. This isn't about electric or gasoline either, the Dodge Charger hellcat is about as bad as a driver's car as the Tesla Model S is, although the Charger is still better because it has gears you can actually take control of and the powerband to keep track of. If your response to that is "oh, what a nuisance!", then that clearly shows you don't belong on this channel's comment section at all. A family SUV these days that costs less than $40,000 would beat one of the most loved cars in history, the AE86, but does anyone care? No.. because it's not about horsepower.
Yesh the tesla is a great car......but how much juice left in the batteries after this run? The other cars can do this all day.....could the tesla? And it was only over 1/4 mile....on a 15000 ft run way....if it had gone to the 1/2 mile the tesla would have lost to 2 maybe 3 cars.
