Thanks for putting this video together, it was VERY helpful for me. I just replaced those 3 passenger side engine mounts and 2 belts for $170. I bet this job at a shop would've been $650! Because of your video, I completed the entire job in 3 hours and that included going to the auto parts store! Again, much thanks.
Thanks a bunch, I really appreciate it. I called for a quote and was quoted $530.00 I watched the video and bought the mount for 26.00 and spent maybe 3 hours doing it saved me over $500.....
For 300 bucks, I'd certainly let someone else do this sh*t for me. Of course, in 2023, this is probably a $1,000 repair. You know, since COVID, everything is 5 times more costly than it was pre-COVID. Everyone trying to recoup that stimulus money, yo!
This is an awesome video I work in a transmission shop and I use this video to change the broken motor mount the bolt actually broke off so I had to replace it all I've been a mechanic for 35 years and I'm still learning new things thank you for this video it's helped out tremendously I watch some other videos of people doing the same thing but they weren't is detail is this awesome video keep up the good work
Changed all 4 mounts, on my dodge neon started at 11 in the morning finished @ 7:30 that evening. Saved a whole lot of money. Thanks for all the you tube vids.
I can never thank you enough for this AWESOME video. I am handy around the house - but when it comes to cars...no bueno. I'm a 52 yo disabled female that is living on almost nothing - so there is NO way I can afford a mechanic. You sir are a God send. I got everything off on Sunday, had to take Monday off to recover, and put it all back together with a new center and top motor mount. Found out the lower is bad too, so that is ordered and thankfully will be a quick and easy fix. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! BTW...my 8 yo grandson who beat Childhood cancer at age 4 is also a Nathan!!
Hey Nathan great video very informative and helpful. Watch this video several times before attempting to do this job because I didn't want to spend $500 to have this done. The job went well 1 1/2 hrs start to finish just an FYI to other people doing this job if you want to make the mounts last a little bit longer if your car is is driven hard you can fill spool mounts up with windshield structural urethane the mounts should last forever. You pick up a small vibration but nothing like with a bad mount.Keep up the great work on the videos.
The upper and lower parts on the passenger side are torque struts, not engine mounts. The center mount, the one that is buried in the body, is THE engine mount. It carries the weight of the engine 24/7/365 and is tuned to handle idle shake of the engine. It fails first. When it fails, the upper and lower torque struts try to carry the load, which they are not designed to do, and then they fail too. The trans mount, located under the air cleaner box, is a load bearing mount also, but it is a flat mount, not circular, and is much easier to access. This video by Nathan is the best I've seen yet. Too many people ignore the center mount (which fails first about 100% of the time) because they're lazy or don't have the patience to do this job right. Do yourself a favor and change all 4 mounts when you do change them!
This is the best video you'll find, This guy did a excellent job showing you, 1 to 10,,10 beeing a ridiculously Impossible, this is about a 7.YOU CAN DO IT!!! Theese cars,,,if taken care of are damn good little cars,do it once,,do it right then Laugh at the people at the gas pump,, Besides this neon keeps my mind off all my bills, In a way, it's like being married..
Yeah, it makes me miss my '68 Mustang that had a 200cid straight 6 under the hood. Replacing a motor mount in it was quick and easy. Even removing the cylinder head to clean the carbon from it and the piston heads was super easy. Now I have a PT Cruiser and Saturn SL. I want my Mustang back. LOL!
I've seen alot of these videos bc im doin this to my 03 Neon and this is the best video!!! the only pionter i woild give you is a 11/16" rench fits on the little "nipple" thing on top of the tensioner pulley so you can take tension off the belt to make the belt easier to remove/install
Thank you. This helped me sooo much. I wish I would have known about this video when I had to replace my tensioner pully. Your video was so much better than any of the others I watched for that. Even though that isn't what you were doing, you had to go through all the same steps and you made it much easier for me. I really appreciate it.
There is a strut mount adjustment that is supposed to be done and if it is not set correctly it could cause vibration and premature motor mount breakage. Did you check this adjustment?
You dont need to get a socket on the serpentine belt tensioner on the 2005 models. A 3/4 open ended wrench fits perfectly from above onto the pulley bracket casing. It was a time saver. Works great.
I was quoted $1859 at Christian Brother Automotive to have all 3 of these replaced. I had the timing belt replaced and I believe that motor mount is fine. It's the lower and upper that needs to be replaced. The quote for my mechanic is I think $1450 with the parts and without 1250. This is the most ridiculous price for the job. They stated they'd have to remove the engine is why it's expensive. I have yet to see an engine removed for this job on RUclips. I bought the upper and lower for $44.00 on Amazon. I can buy all 3 for ^60.00 on Amazon. My goodness auto repair places are astronomical. 9bolts that need to be removed or loosened. 2 torx on the lower for that mount piece in front. 2 on the lower for the main bolts and 1 for the support. The upper is the ground wire. The main bolt on the side. 3 from the top. I mean......... yah, it's not hard. If the job was $300 or $400 I could understand with the middle mount being replaced too. GEEZ
I followed your instructions took around 10hrs to change that one centre mount most time wasted figuring how to get it out and the metal bracket, I had disconnect ac cords to have more space.

On the tensioner if you take a prybar put on the lip of the tensioner pull back and the top motor mount you can take the tension off the belt and take it off that way
Had the same problem and took all mounts off including trans mount then popped the 4 lower strut bolts off then backed off shaft nuts and took both shafts out of hubs. The engine now can be lowered and pushed to the drivers side to get to center mount . Much quicker way but you need 2 Jack's to do. My second Jack was my motorcycle jack which steadies engine. I kept shafts in trans to maintain tranny oil level . Seems like out of the way work but not as much nuckle scraping work.
At 265,000 miles, I've had the timing belt and water pump replaced twice in my '02 Neon SE. Not only did I never think to replace all the mounts along with the timing belt, it was never suggested by two different professional mechanics! If I knew then what I know now... I have a vibration while accelerating, which started a few weeks ago. What are the odds that this mount is fine, and I only need to replace the upper and lower mounts (and maybe the tranny mount)?

The Chrysler MOPAR shop manual for PT Cruiser recommends pulling the engine to change the 4 mounts. As Nathan has demonstrated, even though this is a Neon 2.0L, the procedure he uses is going to be the same for the PT and does not require the engine to be removed completely.
