Hi Mark, am I somewhat correct in saying that servicenow developers aren't real software developers? I've been doing it for 10 months and it feels like, as my boss puts it, 60% drag and drop and 40% coding. I'm also in school and I'm doing assignments where I write and compile things. But with servicenow so much is available and simplified that you don't need to write anything very complicated. In this line of work I don't feel like a real software developer. Please share your thoughts.

Trolers Nation Yes it’s not full on software engineering but the salaries are just the same or higher than software engineers. I live in Dallas by the way. It’s also less coding too

It can be drag and drop development, or it can be real development. It just depends on what your organization is using the platform for. And yeah, the salary is there but youre not going to make AWS developer money.

Hi Trolers, sorry for such a long delay in my reply. One of the prerequisites to being a software developer is having someone say you aren't a real software developer. I write code every day.

@Knavery Hi, I am new to ServiceNow dev, I don't understand what are we actually developing?

  • @amanpanda4497

It feels monotonous to me, given that coding doesn't require much logic but understanding of the working of different elements within SNOW. Want to get a approve, reject button on notification, the coding is easy but one has to go to script, script include to do it. Flow designer may also be used
A year of experience as a developer.

If you want to do more complex coding (as I do) I suggest the Service Portal and Agent Workspace (fairly new). But yeah, it's not creating a new machine learning algorithm or breaking cyphers.

Hey. Thank you for the great video. I just got my first serviceNow developer job. How can I best prepare for my first day? I never used servicenow before.

I would suggest heading to developer.servicenow.com there is training you can take there

What would be some impressive questions I can ask in the interview? I'm applying for an entry-level ServiceNow developer position

Well first you have to have some insight into their environment...But if you give me this question, just knowing nothing here is what I would ask... How robust is your CMDB, what integrations are you employing? How far have you gone into scoped applications? You using a service portal, if so what kind of custom widgets are you using? .......A bit more open ended questiony are these. Do you intend to intend to expand functionality? What is your userbase, or licensing scheme?
