    The VTX (at least the 1800) has TWO drain plugs, the second is for the dry sump and I usually get about a 1/4 of a quart out of it...

    Nice video thank you. Next change the shaft drive oil, I need to learn about that too.

      Bingo. They all leave this out yet they think they are doing a demonstration - there are 2 frigging plugs ffs

    My owners manual says drain the oil with the bike on the side stand to get all the oil out. 2006 vtx1800r.

      Terry Pasquali I’ve done both ways and if you let it drip, it doesn’t make a difference. It’s more important to change the oil every 6 months than tilting the bike. Letting the oil go old and oxidize will cause a lot more damage

    What about the other drain plug?

    • @dcfgarage
      @dcfgarage  4 года назад

      Which one?

    • @A320FirstOfficer

      Daniel CarFix On this bike there are two of them, one that you did and another, forward facing, about six, seven inches forward of it. You're supposed to do both to get a proper drain.

      I was doing some service on my bike there days and I noticed that mine only has one drain plug. Mine is a 2004 and the 2002-2004 models have some differences from the 2005 onwards like the oil drain plug, the gas pump inside the tank and the location of the coolant overfill tank.

    Great video, but is it important to remove the front oil drain plug?

    Its thst synthetic or conventional oil?

    uhhh why didnt you drop both drain plugs? you dont idle your machine for a few minutes and bring it up to normal temp for a better drain of old oil? on another note just my preference and choice i use a couple qts of cheap conventional oil and my drained out old oil filter reinstalled to do a 2 minute idle and flush all old oil out of engine.. you have to do the work twice but as i say just a choice and preference for me to do.. we all have our own preference as how we do things i just have to recommend those watching your video not to forget the 2nd oil drain plug its closer to the front of engine. thats cool your wife rides and please let her know great choice and great taste on choice of bike you guys be safe enjoy the brute power of the 1800 and keep 2 wheels up

    just one thing shouldn't you put some new oil in the filter before install. then the engine doesn't start dry

    • @dcfgarage
      @dcfgarage  2 года назад +2

      It takes a lot of time for the engine to dry. If you warm the engine a d then change the oil, it won't start dry. But you can do that... it doesn't hurt

      According to honda's manual you can use either. Depends on the temperature of where u live
