+Maira Raza I always wanted to do ballet and tap at a very early age, my inspiration came from watching barbie in the nutcracker and in swan lake, I adored it and I wanted to become a ballerina, but my mom was never encouragable 😔
This actually helped me. I watch dance moms (if you don't know what that is..you should be ashamed) so I wanted to learn how to turn like them. And this video actually helped. So thank you ☺
I am not a professional dancer but these steps are helping my dance ministry to beginning learners. Not looking to put anyone down I enjoy the small things in life and this great for my young ones to begin with. Thank you for your time Ms. Liz Piccoli.
GUYS To everybody saying that spotting is not necessary, ask anybody. Literally anybody. Any dance teacher or someone who has had experience it dance. SPOTTING IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP AND TOOL. I have been dancing for years and this is the only advice teachers give. When you don't spot you lose balance, topple over, and barely do any turns. Spotting makes you able to do more turns. It gives you momentum. When you spot, you won't topple over, lose your balance, or get dizzy. Spotting is soooooo important.
This helped a bunch! I've done dance for a total of 5 years and I've never been able to do a full pirouette, turns out I was prepping all wrong! Thank you! I can now do one and a half, thanks to this video!
Thank you this really helped me fix and make my pirouettes better! my inspiration has always been dance moms and to be like maddie so thank you for the help!🥰
She didn't teach about spotting. Her arms were too far apart in first position. Her hands looked awkward. And she called an inside pirouette an "inward turn." Lol what is this...
@@김석진-b9l you keep your focus on a certain space and then snap your head around back to it while you turn in order to keep from getting dizzy and stay properly balanced
Woah I've been attempting pirouettes for a long time now only from watching gymnastics. I've improved a lot just practicing by myself but watching this now I got much better.
I'd like to know what criteria howcast uses to filter their teachers... this woman's technique is very sloppy and she is not very thorough with her explination. Also, as many people have said, she has no head spot... that is problematic. it is also the reason why she falls out of her double pirouette. Anyway... howcast, if you want someone to teach turns let me know.
I understand that this is jazz, but seriously, you need to spot and land in a correct parallel fourth. Also, she was winding up, and that is very bad technique.
As a BOY, who loves dance and wants to try jazz turns etc. I think this sets a perfect example on how to turn, I learned how to turned like this is 2 weeks! Thank you ❤❤❤❤
its not a must that you have to spot to avoid getting dizzy when doing many turns once. For gymnastics, you can see that the women gymnasts can do 4 turns quickly without spotting on floor or balanced beam, and even they can connect other moves with the turns. They don't look dizzy at all after finishing turns. Certainly spotting is necessary on dance teaching but it is not the only method to avoid being dizzy. Honestly, when you practically do many turns once very quickly , its not easy to spot in each single turn if you haven't gotten well trained from the basics before...
Aina C oh my god thank you lol. Honestly I don’t see spotting as something necessary because it’s not for everyone. I love Sanne Wevers turns on the balance beam.
I feel like this method, which my teacher swears by, has really stunted my spotting, as your head is basically going in a slow-motion circle the whole time. So here I am three years later watching RUclips videos because I still can't do a proper jazz pirouette. And it's the same exact ineffective method. Great.
Spotting is when you look at a specific spot (ex: A piece of tape on the wall) and you keep trying to look as you turn and you look at it until you can't see it then you whip your head around to the original spot and the reason why you spot is it makes you less dizzy.
I'm here because I want to learn to dance because I'm thinking of a career in theater!! I'm hoping to attend a program at my local theatre and I'm really excited!!
I was inspired by school and summer camp because when I danced there I enjoyed and then I knew I love to dance. I'm sorry if I am not here because of dance moms but I just am.
Hey I’m wondering why her heel is up in the prep? I am a super classically trained ballet dancer and was in classical jazz and modern for years as supplementary classes required for company members. I do not remember ever learning pirouettes with the back heel up in the prep??? Odd I don’t remember this if it is correct....
Her prep is so annoying we do second, half rond de jambe into fourth also she's stopping herself halfway through the turn when you only get better by holding it
Kathryn Le you can prep from any position- she should have said that. And her technique is very interesting and I do wonder how much jazz she has actually done because the word is pirouette!
Yeah. The way she is prepping is tedious. Once you've done it a few times, you can go into it from pretty much just a normal tendu. There's no need for a ball change, that's totally unnecessary.
please take this down. she is not explaining anything. In your preparation, be sure you are balanced evenly between your feet, bend both knees, then push down into the floor on your standing leg to send you up into releve. Touch your passé toe to your standing knee and Point your toe! Practice balancing in this passé with a wall or railing for at least 30 seconds. That is the position your should be in when you turn. The woman here is doing a ball change preparation and her weight is unevenly distributed before she tries to turn, which is why she can not hold her releve or stay balanced through the turn to the end (or do more than 2). If you want to dance, take a CLASS in person. The internet will not teach you how to dance.
I am sure the teacher could have spent hours on spinning and got really pedantic on the techniques of spinning, but for a 4 min spin video, she got nicely to the points.
Okay one question how can you even try to not stop in the middle of the dance or fall down, ya see I have been watching dance moms or dance or ballet dance, and it inspired me to do dance, I can dance or sing but I wanna dance like a real dancer like ya know I wanna do something like the dance turns
+Victoria Khytryak I would say pirouettes/turners or half soles are best for any turns in dance. I have heard from teachers that you shouldn't use socks unless you have good control but I think it's really your preference.
+Balletislife MAM but what if your not really dancer tho, but you wanna learn these stuff lol and have the proper shoes?? is there anywhere were they sell cheap shoes? Or is it really expensive
For all the people saying that she didn't talk about spotting, I think she skipped that essential part because she was only doing one turn. I mean, if you were to do multiple turns, spotting is a must.
I always wanted to be a dancer ever since I watched dance moms.
Same thing here I just have that urge to beat maddie but I feel like I started late

thank you dance moms for making me want to learn how to dance while using this EXTREMELY inflexible, clumsy body
Exactly I like dance but was never serious about it until I watched and became incredibly jealous at how good they were at such a young age

She should wear coloured socks. Seriously. I can't see how exactly they're supposed to be against her black pants -_-
she is black girl
+Cherry XD lol
nathaliexlr8 lol
No, you wear jazz shoes, which are usually black and look kind of like socks. They're more for function (ease of turns etc.) than fashion.
Malvavisco Yeah, when you actually dance. But not when you're making a tutorial. At least where different coloured pants.

Lol what is this...
It's for beginners who don't know how to dance. If you bombarded them with all that information, they wouldn't be able to cope.
Still you should have a bit about it because it is really important
@@David-ud9ju spotting is very essential for basics
why isn't she spotting
Anna Barboza bc it isnt necessary
Floor tjeuh it is or you’ll get dizzy quickly and start to stumble
¡Soy Tan Fabuloso! Well at least in ballet, it definitely is
What is spotting?

You dont ball change before you turn
You totally forgot about spotting
You fall out of your turns...
Is it a kick-ball-change?
Soraya Gonzalez kick ball change is with a kick lol
exactly, I notice she always stumbled at the end of turning
I know right she is not spotting
Adria Spadina actually you do ball change to shift your weight..
Woah I've been attempting pirouettes for a long time now only from watching gymnastics. I've improved a lot just practicing by myself but watching this now I got much better.
nathaliexlr8 There's a way to get more power that are a little more complicated! But you can do more easily

Mary Savocchia I'm a jazz dancer and I was cringing the entire time.
Ball change isn’t even part of the prep
I’m a lyrical dancer. Ball change is not part of the prep, and she didn’t discuss spotting at all.
She doesnt even do a full turn?
ikr
She does

as a dancer for nearly 10 years and more, please spot. thats what will help you do doubles, triples, etc.

What is spotting? I'm new to this lol!
+Brandy Myrick spotting is when your about to do a pirouette and you keep your eyes on one thing and never take them off

Also, in a jazz inside pirouette, the knee would be completely parallel, thighs hugging, and finish final pirouette before neutral in multiple turns.

What about spotting? My dance teacher always told us to spot. Is it not needed to perfect a pirouette ?
Thank you so much 🙏🏼 I’m joining contemporary soon
Awesomeness! Thanks a million.
how can you turn many times without putting the foot on the floor? is it just practice?
I learned a pirouette already. I hope this video helps!
So nice and thanks
Hey can somebody help me? (I'm not a dancer) do you turn on your dominant or non-dominant foot? Also do you turn to the inside or outside?

Honestly I say Paws not Undie paws! Just depends on what your company lets you wear!
tap shoes
Depends on what type of dance you do. Generally it's jazz shoes, ballet shoes, or pointe shoes, but if you do tap, tap shoes. Socks are bad.
Here cause I have dance class and I needed a reminder
i can do it but am i supposed to land on my starting spot
In my opinion Jazz seems to be one style of dance you don’t need EXTREME flexibility.
