i have a 2006 e53 3.0d and it's completely killin it! it still looks a whole lot better than other suvs and it makes me feel like a mafia when i drive it :S
Yee that's me too lol
I've got the bmw e53 x5 sport 3.0L PETROL auto and love it , I've changed alot of parts like ,
Expansion tank,
Rocker cover gasket,
Ignition coil packs
Front ball joints,
But love the car I think previously it wasn't taken care of but I love fixing cars as a hobbies and watching your channel from day one .
What’s the fuel consumption like?
I have a 2005 BMW X5 E53 4.8iS V8, I've converted it to run on LPG and it's so much better than petrol and I've installed an id4motion instrument cluster, tinted the windows, and fitted an xtrons head unit, 4 new tyres. It's the best car I've ever owned. Oh and it's only got 98000 miles on the clock!
What I love about this channel is the reviews and advice on good solid affordable BMWs.
I have an early 2001 3.0i with standard suspension, with some minor upgrades.
Outhandles any SUV that tries to keep up, quick for the kind of vehicle it is.
Snow does not stop it.
Just got an 05 x5 3.0 with 79k miles. Gonna keep her forever man. Modern classic suv.
Absolutely agree with you. I've been driving a 04 E53 with M54 6 speed for the last 5 years and with almost 300k it still out performs most today! It hasn't been flawless but I've been able to do 90% of the work on it myself. I'm actually struggling on whether I should upgrade but can't find anything that can compare.
Am looking for one with m54 engine, am not a fun of diesel engines bearing in mind thee high cost of maintenance cost a diesel engine comes with. You have an 04, 6 speed, does it come with a ZF gearbox ?
@@bwalyabwalya2796 nope it's a manual 6speed! 😉
Has it cost you a mortgage in fuel cost??
These are great vehicles. My 2001 takes a 160 mile round trip every day over a mountain pass and it's just a joy to drive .I paid 900 dollars for mine and it drives nicer than some of the new trucks and cars I have driven , not to mention it's a beast in the snow.
Hey… do you still have it? And what’s the mileage now
Frank Stephenson designed it on an aeroplane in like 4 hours he's got a video on it. Awesome car.
16yrs I've had my E53,,over 200k on clock hardly any issues, still well powerful accelerates like new,got 3.0 diesel sport like the one in the clip
You know that !! These cars are SUPER SUPER reliable especially in the diesel model this thing eats miles for breakfast with no stress. If other countries got this car including the USA they would understand the definition of ULTRA RELIABLE engine and BMW
i'm new to your channel but you doing absolutely amazing work man. so much info and really pleasure to watch your passion for the brand
I just subscribed to this channel. I love the intro music! Great content man.
The BEST CAR that I own 2003 till now.
Thanx Dean, ive just bought a november 2006 e53, 3lit diesel here in Spain, with only 110,000km. The LHD models still have the swirl flaps so ive bought the blanks from X8R !
Ive checked the PCV and cleaned out my egr.
The cars like new, hope it will last a long time !!!
very informative, love my e53 diesel, keep up the good work dean.
You are a legend
Keep up good work man..
Doing the rear suspension interference rose joints is quite easy with the proper tool. Only took me 30 minutes to replace both. The kit comes with a threaded rod and 4 different size cups to push out/in the bushing.
Good stuff, only problem I have with my 535d is am not in it enough! Took it for a long journey the other day and what a difference! Back to its full power, think the dpf needed a long steady journey to run its cycle. Considered letting it go for a smaller engine car but can't quite bring myself to it lol.
Had one great car air suspension leant to one side checked big fuse in boot replaced boom back up and running 👌👍
The sound of the M57 thooo :)
The best option for the M5 lovers driving the 3.0D is: One ECO- tune Remap/ Chip for 10-15 % increase in performance, fuel economy and a pocket full of money, because everything over this will cost failures overtime and tons of money for the owner.
my kia sorento is a real offroader with 4x4, reduction gear- low range, can tow up to 3500kg and the suspension is amazing for offroad, I can only compare it to touareg which also has low range and blocking central diff and that car also has very potent air suspension that lifts the car way high up. bmw x5 is mostly for the roads, drives super sporty like a sedan
I have 3.0D 184hp with 380.000km, and wroks like Rolex. The best SUV in last 20 years.
Everybody who have X5 only make servce oil every 13-15.000km only with Castrol 5/30 full syntetic, and every 70-90.000km transmision service with FEBI oil. I'm sure you can drive the auto minimum 1.000.000 km.
Greetings from Austria !!!
Im from usa need power steering stop noise u turn tyrn it
Nice vid keep up the good work
I love my e53 got the m57 its a trooper over 170k on the clock and only needed normal and wear and tear parts, would never sell it
Keep up my man (we) are with you.
I appreciate that
@@BMWDoctor God bless u brother. Am in Botswana..South African ...I have a problem with a bmw 320i e90 year 2005 make...it can crank but no start. Man i ve done all except changing the battery..the battery am using is a small 680amp . Can it be the problem????
Any respond my man
These vids have insane content. Been watching for a while now and enjoying it more. I’ve ended up owning this e53 X5 now for 10years, it’s a solid engineered 4x4 for onroad/lightoffroad use. Do you ever go upto edinburgh for work?
Always in Edinburgh…… Building my workshop near there for myself as we speak
@@BMWDoctor oh that’s brilliant! Dream come true having your own set up! I remember watching your vid (infact both of them ha) on the X5 e53 egr delete. I just can’t push myself to attempt it, just finished doing the handbrake lever and that was a fcuker😩 would be good if you had a chance to have a look at my 3.0d example!
Great video man plz do POV drive on your m5
love your vids, what's the intro song tho? Banger
Does the 2004 (Manual transmission) e53 with m54 engine come with a GM gearbox too?
Classic true LEGEND
Nice vidéo X5 thanks
I kept waiting for you to change gear...😂
If in not mistaken, it should be 218 bhp. Cant be 100% sure as well.
great machine they certainly dont make themlike that anymore.
At what mileage should you change the timing chain on the m57tu?
what's your opinion on the rear spring conversation?
What oil would you recomend please e53 2005 6 speed auto 3.0d
Always loved the sounds of a sic cylinder diesel. has been a long time that I haven't watched any of your videos, but looking forward watching this.
I was wondering how many MPG they do get nowadays considering the Cats or DPF's would be quite clogged. Or aren't they? Apart from that, here in Belgium, it would become a problem in the LEZ zones starting to emerge with the "pollution" thing going in. How is that in UK? Oh, and the tax would be too high for such an "old" car.
Although it used to be a very high specced car with all the luxury, many of it has become obsolete in my honest opinion. Sat Nav is practically unsusable anymore, TV yes but very pixellated, and so on.
EDIT: the background "music" dnB style is really really annoying.
Cheers from Belgium
You can get a modern iDrive system installed in them auld BMWs -e46/e39/e38/e53s - seriously!
Helo sir, i have a bmw f31 320d 2013 and i need to replace the oil pressure switch, but can’t find the place of it and also there is no video on it. Could you help me out please?
Dr BMW how reliable is the BMW x5 3000cc diesel 2010 i intend to buy one soon or should I just buy the BMW x5 E53 2005 please educate ON this thanks Obrien
I’m looking at an E53 Diesel at the weekend. 160k miles what should I look for??
Hey man how you doing.
Could you possibly spare me a minute with my x5 e53 diesel. I just bought it and the test drive was fine but going home on the motorway I floored it and the revs stopped at 3400rpm so wouldn't kick down. I changed the fuel pressure sensor for a used one as it came up as a fault on the scan, and that did improve it giving me 4200rpm. But that's it, if you floor it most of the time it cuts out when it gets up to 4000. I have got a new fuel filter and new fuel pump on order. Have I started in the right place and could these be a fix? Cheers Martin
X5 facelift E53 3.0D has 218hp and 500nm torque
Isn't the E39 designed by Joji Nagashima not Chris Bangle and didn't Frank Stephenson design the E53
Hey bud i hope all is well and reqlly like your videos, i just want some clarification, in this video you recommend blanking off the EGR and also recommend a remap aswell, but in your other video about the common faults for the e53 X5 you recommend that you dont remap them to make them into "M cars" just to make it clear and i apologise if i mis heard you - is it good to blank off the EGR and remap or just blank off the EGR - im in the market to look buy one - thanks
No you have heard it wrong ! I said on the (Older) M57 engines you can just blank the EGR valve off ! On the (Newer) M57 enginr from 2006 and up they are computer controlled therefor to delete it you need to (MAP) it out of the ECU. I never said and will always be against remapping these car’s and there engines. I have no need to remap a diesel for power when I own 2 m car’s already with the power I need.
Ahh top guy! thank you for your reply and sharing your knowledge and experience and i will be sure to look out for this
Hi Dr Dean I have a E53is Auto 2003, whats your opinion on this model.... I know you know your stuff but you never mentioned it.....Great video by the way keep up the good work.... much appreciated...
whats the best wheel size for E53 please ? 22inch looks damn good but not comfy ride at all can feel every tiny bump on the road :(
17inch with a large sidewall tyre is best for comfort ,or going off road, any higher even 18inch is much harder and firmer, also if you have the sports suspension it will be harder still, but saying that, a i7inch wheel looks tiny under the wheel arch, somehow it just looks much better with bigger alloys like 20 inch or bigger so its really either comfort with 17 inch alloys or looks with the bigger alloys.
A question folks: does timing chain on 2002 E53 4.4 should be changed (no issue detected)? I heard that newer BMWs’ timing chains need to be changed at 60K KM or so while the older ones do not
Newer BMWs don't need timing chains or tensioners at 60k kms, the only ones with timing chain related issues are like m62s, N20s, sometimes N63 and early S63, other engines don't really suffer from that. If you don't hear anything with your 4.4 M62 x5 then you should be fine, some m62 have timing chain issues late 90k miles, some are at 170k miles or more, it depends on how it was used.
Alot more economical than my 4.6is
Love the E53 but has this hugely annoying issue when rolling to a stop it jerks from 2nd down to first and the whole car shakes..
Any ideas? Have had the trans serviced and is still there...
Same problem here have you solved it?
Got the same issue - spoke to a few indies, apparently it's a characteristic of the box... Annoying as hell though
I have an X3 BMW but the keys has stopped responding to the locking function. What could be the problem??
Battery in key is done I got a guy come round cut a new one and program it for $240 Australian.
Mine has gone 230000km, do i have to chek the chain? No faulty sound or anything, everything is perfect with it..😁 Im from Sweden so i pay the high taxes on it, but its worth it haha
I’m really thinking on buying the 2006 X5 or 2011 X5 idk they both are good cars
You and me both man I was thinking of selling this and getting the E70 but then I like this one a lot and its so reliable and has the engine and gearbox fitted to the E70 but its still confusing as E70 is basically a E60 again on 4 wheels and I have so many E60 I don't know what I would do with a E70 lol
I've got an E70 35d twin turbo. The E70 drives like a tank and has great handling. Go for it you won't regret
واذا شرح على القفل الرائيسي للسيارة E60
My2004 e53 N62 4.4 is fun except for the constant coolant leaks, just finished the stent on the cross pipe, no fluids leaking for now. Compared to the E39 it feels a little of a step back in quality. Too much plastic where it doesn't belong.
How do you play you’re own music on these?don’t think there is a aux of anything on these stock?
Bmw sells an aux adapter harness that plugs right into the back of the head unit.
Get an FM transmitter off Amaxon. Plugs into your lighter, connects to phone via Bluetooth, pick an FM frequency on your radio that's not used and set that on your transmitter. Whatever you play on your mobile device comes out of the radio.
@@vajindertaak3158always, akways rubbish quality when done this way...
Any good x5s for sale that you know of thanks 😊
How much is the annual motor tax on the 3 litre in the UK?
In Ireland it's at least €1,500 a year for a 3 litre.
£260 for 12 months tax and £143 for six months.
I pay £450 a year for a 2006 3.0D.
If you get the stuff to put in your power steering this it make noise
The best bmw is e39 for ever

Q: would the 3.0 NA version be any good?
I can tell you it’s the most reliable engine ever made! It’s bad on fuel though but if you don’t plan to do too many lengthy journeys as it will cost!
@@Ben-yn5ep also has big oil consumption, isn't it?
Whats the most reliable petrol engine for the e53?
3.0 line 6. But honestly, it's a VANOS system and it could cost a lot to repair. And it won't keep up with the 3.0 diesel. If you want gas and if you can afford it, get the 4.8 IS.
48is its king 🤩
The 3.0d E53 X5 has 218bhp stock.
facelift: 218 hp
Non facelift:184 hp
Bit random but does anyone know if Petronas oil is any good? Or is it crap?
Very high quality Oil been using it last 4 year's in a Type R Civic 👍
The Mercedes F1 team uses it so it must be good
The M53 is probably the best of the X5s, before they became fat and bloated with electronics and excess weight.
The M57 3.0D engine is virtually bomb-proof and would be the version to go for.
The pre-LCI versions are simpler and easier, but not necessarily easy, to DIY maintain. The LCI versions are more complicated although the 3.0D has a more powerful version of the M57 engine.
The running costs (fuel, tyres...) and maintenance costs are significantly more than the equivalent E39 Tourings so you need to be sure that you will get the benefit from having an E53 rather than a E39 Touring. Bearing in mind that the E53, as is the case for all X5s, are not true 4x4s, they are 4 wheel drive versions of the equivalent Tourings.
As is the case for many 20 year old BMWs maintenance will have been skimped and it will be expensive if you need to get repairs done by a dealer or even an Indie.
The Range Rover L322 is very similar and shares many of the features and in the case of the 3.0D the same engine.
Frank Stephenson designed the e53. He has a RUclips channel where he explains his experience.
Number plate lights 🤣
Should have got a manual dude..... keep grabbing that gear stick as if its were manual :D
Didnt come diesel in states
Hi. What's your email. Ill like to make an appointment or something too see my car and tell me a price. I changed the solenoids, camshaft sensors, ignition coils, spark plugs and still rough idle. It stops when i disconnect the solenoid intake cable. If i put i back it start rough idle again. I get p0012 camshaft position sensor intake error but i changed like 3 sensors, 2 oem. 2 intake solenoids and no fix. Someone told me to reset adaption but never heard of that

CAYMAN ISLANDS 🇰🇾
REAL TING REAL KING OF X5 E53
One of the best BMW's ever manufactured really was ahead of it's time, would still be competitive if they launched it today.
If the E53 was launched today it wouldn't be competitive if it was launched today. Its an old car. A good old car but it can't be launched as a brand new car
@@terrificspokesman7416 The chassis and design could for sure be launched, every suv today follows BMWs recipe, unibody with offroad capability, try to find anything similar before the e53. After the e53 was out, ML turned into a unibody, porsche came out with the cayenne following that was the Q7, Alfa, Lambo, and Jaguar are now making suv heavily similar to BMWs original concept. Even Range Rover after the e53 knew that BMWs chassis was the way to go, sporty but then optimize offroad capability still using that unibody structure with bug v8s and made to be sporty and fast as possible. The e53 chassis wise and with the 4.8is you could easily keep up with todays car, it still has the early parking assist, it has the stereo, bluetooth and luxury comfort seats, heated steering wheel and heated mirrors i can go on, it does have the guts to keep up. Still can tow over 6,000lbs and Air ride on all 4 wheels, the new G05 just introduced with the all wheel air ride and its been since the e53 when that option was available. The only downside to the x5 is obviously unnecessary technology and performance out of the 3.0i/4.4i there is no other set back.
Sorry but when it comes to an off road 4x4 jeep is king. It’s a jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand 🤣😂😁👍 I love bimmers too. 😌

Bangle was a genius at the time they hated him. But look at the E60 looks better than the models that followed
2006 4.8is with 105,000 miles??? It seems like the 3.0 is the most reliable? Yes? No???
3.0d YEAH IT IS but never the 3.0 petrol that has a horrible gearbox on it 5 speed and prone for failure same as the M54 prone to overheat if you want reliable 3.0D you cant get more reliable then that

Chris Bangle never designed the E39. Thats why the E39 still looks good.
