I’ve been practicing in the field of architectural for more than 20 years. What appears to be hard is for me exciting. I get to solve problems and come up with creative solutions that works for my clients. I’m not a licensed architect, but I design and produce as much as a licensed architect.
I just dropped out of med school due to my country situation and thought of studying architecture in California. You just made me even more passionate and motivated to be an architect.
I dated a guy who studied architecture and ended up marrying him 😂 a bonus was that I love architecture/interior design but never wanted to study it. I can somehow relate as one who has observed the processes of hubby's studying and working phases (esp. the forgetting to eat part, which I gladly remind him to do every single day 😂). It's definitely not easy on families too but I'm so proud of my husband, he studied at Unitech, NZ, then worked for almost 5 yrs for 2 different Architecture firms here in Fiji and later started his own design studio. The key is once you've got clear goals as a family it makes the journey worth it and keep that communication line open with your better half and child(ren) too. Btw, I got sent this vid by hubby haha. Great video of Pro's & Con's 🙌🏾
One thing I've noticed about all the architects that I've come across is that they're all very confident and seem to always want to contribute more to architecture. And also, quite open minded. That's one of the many reasons I wanna become an architect.
Also, I actually reeeally like arch history and theory, in my first semester I did best in it XD I love learning about history in general and so it combined my two loves, i loved learning about all these architects' visions and society and all!
Thanks for this video! I'm in my last year if high school and still trying to decide what to do after. There are so many opportunities and I'm constantly overwhelmed and anxious about my future. While looking into architecture you find a million videos about how hard and impossible it is and how so many people don't do anything but work on projects or even have to drop out altogether. So it's nice to finally hear some encouragement :) You give me hope that maybe architecture is something for me and that it is doable!
this video was an emotional rollercoaster first five minutes, but after that, the more I watched, the more confident I became that I want to study architecture! Thank you!🥺
Been pretty anxious in planning to pursue this career, however, I have never let it discourage my desire to become an architect. After seeing your videos, I've only been motivated even more and have decided that I really do want to do this. Im currently 17 and a senior in HS, so Ive been researching about this career path and just want to thank you for these tips/ advice as they are very insightful and aid a lot in getting to know what Im heading into. Keep up the great work! :)
After being in the industry for 20 years just be aware there's a huge amount of paperwork and emails all the time. Chasing engineers who now have all the power. Design work is only about 5% of your time if you are lucky. Clients can be extremely demanding and unfair.... especially if they have started looking at pinterest.
I graduated as an architect. The time that I’ve finished my graduation project, I was so glad that I was alive. I thought probably I was gonna die before the day because of burnout. After graduation, I haven’t any courage to continue this journey. I started to seeking other things. For now, I study in Master of strategic communication program. I am still confusing for my future. Every time I learn something about architecture, I feel so excited. Anyway, I appreciate for your videos ❤
Awesome video!! I can attest to learning to love some of the unglamorous parts of the job. I love figuring out the nitty gritty of a building, thinking about construction and details, it's like a puzzle that still allows me to be creative in figuring out a solution, without having to start with a blank page.
I am glad to see the switch from negatives to positives. I am almost 25, dropped out of my first uni degree, finished a completely different Bachelor's from architecture. Now I want to study architecture and I have been worried that if I am too late. But the "reasons not to study it" part were such young and naive thoughts (which I had during my first Bachelor's), now I am thinking maybe I am not late and it is for the better. For whatever that is, architecture has always been my passion, my love.
@ I’m 26 and started studying this year. My classmates are 17-18, surely puts me in a bit of insecurity from time to time. And i am studying in a language that I learned only in 1.5 year. I understand most things but I am not fluent, that also makes it really difficult. But I love what I study so much that all worth it. So if you want it, go for it. What is the worst that could happen?
you are my new motivation! Im planning on studying architecture after high school and ive been very anxious about it cause ive heard a lot of bad things about it :´( but you gave me so much confidence!! thank you!
As a architecture student I think that one of the main difficulties is the fact that you have to take decision and learn by yourself… You can sketch something for six hours, and then realise that this not how you want ur project to go ….
It’s still a long time before I even need to be thinking about going to Uni but I’m getting to that stage where I need to choose. Damn I want to do Architecture
Anti-depressants? I literally tried that the other day so I can stop panicking about my studio assignment. I thought I was the only one 😂😂 The insanity is real
While you were listing the cons of studying architecture, I was smiling all through. I'm currently a second year in medicine school, which I'm dropping 😅 this semester 🙃, and going for architecture instead. I guess I'm just happy there will be more practical work in relation to studying. In the mean time do you have any tips for a good portfolio 🤔 🙂
That's awesome, keep smiling! My succinct advice for a portfolio is to keep it as clear and concise as possible. Less is more. Include only your best work and the work you are proud of. One or two projects in each category you are trying to show. For example, only one or two sketches, only one or two renders etc. Lastly, tailor your portfolio to the company you're applying for. That's the biggest thing. You can always refer them to your larger body of work/portfolio if you have one.
Practical work? Not really. It requires alot of office work and also overtime. Better look at other videos to get more insight into architecture industry. Since in my opinion clg is lot more interesting than doing office work. I am in 5th yr architecture and also dod internship for 5mnths. Trust me clg is hell better. If you are not a desk job person then this field is not for you.
I am actually quitting my 3 year in architecture school for medicine. Even if i gave up on it, the school semesters are very intense also and I learned many things other that architecture like self development and how to manage my Time Best. Architecture school is hard, but True passion would make it work for you. Don t give up!
i am finishing school next year and plan to study architecture afterwards because i think it could be something i would have fun doing, but there are so many videos or articles that say architecture isn’t a good major which makes me question my plan :(
@@kylesinko ofcourse i did (it’s a great video btw) and i still want to go for architecture but nevertheless it made me think about if i’m „good“ enough to study architecture

Due summer time i miss my architecture school its exhausting but getting and giving help and work with my fantastic and inspiring colleagues its worth it
the main question considering these salaries is- whether you get paid for overtime, if you do you might in practice actually earn 2X in a year, but if you dont, you might work more and earn less Learning to communicate effectively and take up the leadership role when necessary, is probably one of the most crucial skills.
Love this video! I now experienced first-hand many of those 15 reasons, my family literally misses me xD But again, every few days i'm reminded that this hardwork is making my day and my learning richer, i'm learning so much about the world and i'm pushing my limits constantly. Archi is such an unstable journey, yet that is way at times it is also magical and surprising, so overall, PERFECT. As always, LOVE your videos! 😊
Just went through a hellish submission week in my third year and I'm grateful that this video was recommended to me. There's always times where I question myself if I'm even cut out for this field lol
I don't know... i just lived in a daily basis. Sleep was the only thing i needed during the last year to survive. Overall, it was great to have the diploma. Next is the license. Still in pursuit of this.
I enjoy architecture but i dont think i can go on with it because its a avery time consuming course , i cant keep up , and im so drained . But of course for those who are reading this amd want to pursue architecture , just go for it its a very enjoyble course , it opens up your mind helps you to think outsife the box . I may leave architecture or may stay i dont know whats gonna happen 🤣🤣
Missed the big one, in an otherwise perfect video. Architecture in australia, and many other countries, like india i suspect, is misguided. they overdo the soft design skills that are the "fun" part and attract kids who avoid maths and tedious skills. So only 5/250 get jobs. Get some tafe drafting or analysis skills and you will be a proper, more complete, designer, and get a job. Architects are respected in Europe, but they can write applets and subroutines or work out a basic snow load, or know the difference between a bearer and a joist.
I’m a first year student aswell and I think optimistically bout the course and stuff which helps but I just need to get better at managing my time and this video really helped me understand that there are gonna be times where I do get to relax or hangout with friends or play games or manage side buisness and stuff. Thanks for this 👍🏾
End up produce many great ideas when u get multiple experiences not only design the building but other fields too... From A~Z either be own business self employed or team work as employees..
I'm studying bds & I regret not choosing architecture.I'm getting f-ed here either bt atleast I could bear that happily if it was architecture.I still wonder how my life would've turned out if I choosed my aim in life wisely💔
I never knew i always wanted to be an interior designer, but end up studing architure as i wanted to be more hard to myself and realized things in the 2nd year of my study. I enjoy studing architure but always have something in my heart while studing theory as i love planning and designing more. Maybe get into interior designing after 3rd year of my degree. I would like to get suggestions.
I think you should follow your heart! Either way, interior design or architecture, there's only one way to find out if you'll love it. That's by doing it!
When you created a video and titled it '15 Reasons NOT TO Study Architecture', but then flipped that on its head and went into 15 ways to manage the worst of architecture school, I was like wwoooahh. Stellar!
Well people are always going to impose or project their limitations on others lmfao...but successful people say “get out of my face” & keep it pushing!
Thank you for your videos. I want to pursue architecture because it is the closest to my passion. I'm up for the challenge at the same time pretty sure gonna cry the whole time.... Thank you for your videos
I loved the vid and how it ended up, and that's what i always advice ppl who ask me to study it .. even all the hardship it's worthy, and it even helps and teaches u how to solve real life isuues too, .. u said it all good job and good luck 😊
Thank you so much for all of your videos. They helped me not only gain info, but confidence that being an architect just might be in the cards for me one day. :)
I want to pursue architecture but i'm afraid what if when I finally finished studying, I won't get clients or any archi work at that. There's no reassurance whether one will be successful or not, please help me + A LOT of ppl says it's not worth it bcs it does not pay well at all
It depends on your passion. If you're passionate enough, the clients will come. If you're passionate enough, the money will come. It's all about how much you put in
Id like to see some statistics on #7. There are plenty of jobs at architecture firms these days, you'll have no trouble getting a job 3d modeling, revit, cad monkey etc. At least that's true in the US.
Might be true for the US, I'm not sure. But in Adelaide specifically, as well as other cities in Australia it is extremely competitive and you basically need to know someone to get a job, unless you are a shooting star in the industry. Cheers
This video made me passionate and motivated....and this year it's my last year at high school so am going to study architecture...always going to watch your videos for more motivation and being more passionate and also knowing what to expect 👊❤️thanks for your videos.
I hate architecture soo much that I searched this up just to add in more points to rationalize for my never ending pile of hatred towards the course. 🥲 I am on my last damn semester before I get done with architecture. My countdown app I’ve had since Year 01 is finally showing numbers that make me happy.
The Architecture profession teaches you a set of skills and tools that can get you from point A to B . The clients are Guinness pigs for our ideas , so we can eventually do our own personnel work . the worst part of the profession is the dealing with terrible clients. After you learn to manage them and not the other way around , it’s a breeze. remember learn by doing , you don’t know you can do something till you do it. School gives the confidence that nothing is impossible. Keep your chin up and keep going. Sometimes finishing a project and seeing it built is the best satisfaction there is.
The negatives just sound like 'fluff inflation'. Like 'there's actually not much to this, so we're gonna pad the hell out of it.' In the old days the reward of an apprentice builder is they eventually became an architect. Blue to White collar over decades of experience. That sounds better, and the buildings were better too.
I'm a 15 year old. LOST. I recently started getting some interest in architecture and I'm lost. Ive been tryna watch your videos and ask myself if its actually gonna be my thing as me, I am the laziest person alive (And I sleep for about 11 hours). I'm so lost, everybody says something. I just need a right person to talk to and know if I will be able to do this. As in now I'm tryna(short term goal) pass highschool with good scores and then, comes the question. Will I be able to do it. Please help ;-;
Go for gold. You're still so young. I was in the same spot at your age. Don't feel like you need to decide now. Give architecture a shot. If you enjoy it, keep going. If not, try something else. Find your passion and go all in on that. Cheers
Glad you found it useful Min. It's tough for me to say, it would depend on where you are. I'd get in touch with some people you know studying at universities near you.
Hi Kyle, I'm from Germany and I'm interested in studying architecture abroad. Do you have an idea which country is best for studying architecture and getting a quick degree? (or maybe faster than in Germany)
Go for gold! Do what makes you happy. I went through school with quite a few "senior" students, some older than yourself. In fact, one of my bosses started around your age. Talking with some of these senior students, I discovered that they were much more switched on as it truly was their passion. Unlike some students who come straight out of highschool and are forced into University to follow the norm, impress parents/friends, etc. After interviewing a number of architects and designers, I also discovered that a majority have said that having solid life experiences first before studying architecture is extremely beneficial and makes for a much better designer. Good luck!
This might sound foolish but I would like to know if you'll be able to work part time job while being an architecture student... I'm not from a that rich family so I'm afraid I won't be able to afford the material expenses :( It would be really helpful if you can help by answering this question :)
It’s definitely possible and in my opinion beneficial. If you can work a part time job (related to architecture or not), it builds extremely necessary skills that will be valuable for future jobs and life skills in general. I do recommend it!
thank you so much for this it has really helped... I just wanted to ask if you always knew that you wanted to study architecture or if you went back and forth when making the decision and then later realized that it was the one for you
Thanks a lot! Glad it helped. I don't think I was somehow who always knew, hell, I still don't know for sure. But I can tell you that by doing it, my passion has grown over the years. Good luck!
All true. Remember kids there's a reason why your professors are teaching. They may need to supplement their income and get some type of retirement/pension. I also have a 5-year architecture degree State of California however I am now a renewable energy analyst and loving it. I have no regrets. my degree helps me in many aspects including real estate & the creative problem solving process. Etc
one thing you need to know is you think you are good , but not the company think, you think you pay a lot of money and spend a lot of time to learn, that is just your think, so why not just accept the truth.
Hi, there! Give a man a fish and he eats a day. Teach him how to fish and he eats for a lifetime. Architecture schools just teach you a general concept about designing. You don't need to memorize all "RULES" or "REGULATIONS". But you must learn how to find them, how to design a specific project under these controls. After you work in the industry for many years, when you become a manger or a business owner. You'll find out the salary you pay for the trainees, you get nothing back. ... Hope 20 years later, you make a video with the same topic again. Let's see the change! Thx
Don't just watch the first half of the video! The second half is where all the good stuff is at ;)
Thank you so much for watching

I enjoy studing architure but always have something in my heart while studing theory as i love planning and designing more. Maybe get into interior designing after 3rd year of my degree.
I would like to get suggestions.
I think you should follow your heart! Either way, interior design or architecture, there's only one way to find out if you'll love it. That's by doing it!
@@kylesinko thank you so much for your advice. I would definity it a try.
That's some good explanation! Thank you for sharing your experiences!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
When you created a video and titled it '15 Reasons NOT TO Study Architecture', but then flipped that on its head and went into 15 ways to manage the worst of architecture school, I was like wwoooahh. Stellar!
Thanks Mark! Legend.
@@kylesinko I'll give you all the comments you need, Man. This is good content
Amazing video, I wanna do arch more now!
Thank you Daniel! I'm glad you found it insightful :D
But the video was basically about reasons not to do so😂.......anyways I’m an archi student in my second year🤝
Reverie with Nanfe i know, it makes it more challenging, also at the end he gives the good reasons
Amazing video and so true! Even though am still a 4th year I agree with all of your points and I've experienced them myself xD.
Hahaha I'm glad I've got someone to relate with. Thanks for watching
If it was easy, everyone one do it. Anything worth doing aint easy...
100%
The dilemma with architecture is - it's not easy nor is it worth doing for majority of people
I like working with groups (of cool ppl) but, I always get stuck with lazy dummies
In the USA, how many years of school do you need to become a successful architect? Do you need internships?
Well people are always going to impose or project their limitations on others lmfao...but successful people say “get out of my face” & keep it pushing!
That's it! 💪
Thank you for your videos. I want to pursue architecture because it is the closest to my passion. I'm up for the challenge at the same time pretty sure gonna cry the whole time.... Thank you for your videos
Haha you'll be fine! Good luck :)
I loved the vid and how it ended up, and that's what i always advice ppl who ask me to study it .. even all the hardship it's worthy, and it even helps and teaches u how to solve real life isuues too, .. u said it all good job and good luck 😊
Thank you so much Hamadou! I appreciate you watching it all the way through and leaving a comment :D
@@kylesinko welcome 😊😊
Thank you so much for all of your videos. They helped me not only gain info, but confidence that being an architect just might be in the cards for me one day. :)
it made me think if it really sucks today what more when computers and software is not available before
Exactly. Backbreaking.
This was fantastic. Thank you.
Glad you think so! Cheers Mellie
I want to pursue architecture but i'm afraid what if when I finally finished studying, I won't get clients or any archi work at that. There's no reassurance whether one will be successful or not, please help me
+ A LOT of ppl says it's not worth it bcs it does not pay well at all
It depends on your passion. If you're passionate enough, the clients will come. If you're passionate enough, the money will come. It's all about how much you put in
@@kylesinko thank you so much, this means a lot to me..:)
@@hanyca1267 You're very welcome :) All the best
Id like to see some statistics on #7. There are plenty of jobs at architecture firms these days, you'll have no trouble getting a job 3d modeling, revit, cad monkey etc. At least that's true in the US.
Might be true for the US, I'm not sure. But in Adelaide specifically, as well as other cities in Australia it is extremely competitive and you basically need to know someone to get a job, unless you are a shooting star in the industry. Cheers
Thanks
Now I feel more leaned towards this life...thanks thanksst
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
Loved the video ❤️ could make a video talking about studying architecture in Australia
Thank you so much Nimisha! I will add that to my list of videos
thank you this motivated me so much
Glad to hear! Cheers
This video made me passionate and motivated....and this year it's my last year at high school so am going to study architecture...always going to watch your videos for more motivation and being more passionate and also knowing what to expect 👊❤️thanks for your videos.
Watching this as a high school student considering architecture and at the end of the 15 reasons, I started crying 😮💨
I hate architecture soo much that I searched this up just to add in more points to rationalize for my never ending pile of hatred towards the course. 🥲
I am on my last damn semester before I get done with architecture. My countdown app I’ve had since Year 01 is finally showing numbers that make me happy.
🤣🤣🤣almost same like me
The Architecture profession teaches you a set of skills and tools that can get you from point A to B .
Thank you for this!
2% employability is bizzare((
It's pretty crazy, that's for sure.
I srsly can't see myself in any other major but I am not sure if I can handle the stress ..
There's only one way to find out! ;) I believe in you
Thank you!! :")
love what you said about studying. youre absolutely right!
Cheers Bonolo! Appreciate the comment
The negatives just sound like 'fluff inflation'. Like 'there's actually not much to this, so we're gonna pad the hell out of it.'
In the old days the reward of an apprentice builder is they eventually became an architect. Blue to White collar over decades of experience. That sounds better, and the buildings were better too.
I'm a 15 year old. LOST. I recently started getting some interest in architecture and I'm lost. Ive been tryna watch your videos and ask myself if its actually gonna be my thing as me, I am the laziest person alive (And I sleep for about 11 hours). I'm so lost, everybody says something. I just need a right person to talk to and know if I will be able to do this. As in now I'm tryna(short term goal) pass highschool with good scores and then, comes the question. Will I be able to do it.
Please help ;-;
Go for gold. You're still so young. I was in the same spot at your age. Don't feel like you need to decide now. Give architecture a shot. If you enjoy it, keep going. If not, try something else. Find your passion and go all in on that. Cheers
@@kylesinko Thank you so much. I'm so glad you're guiding as much as people possible. Keep growing!!
you literally cleared up my mind
I think I will transfer to architect, now. Which school is good for architecture major?
Glad you found it useful Min. It's tough for me to say, it would depend on where you are. I'd get in touch with some people you know studying at universities near you.
Thank you for this video❤❤
you should do one on why you should become an architect
I have that video too :) You can check it out on my channel
I can attest to all of this as a second year architecture student😂😂😂😂 but I still love it and I can complain about it with my other archi friends
Hahaha that's what it's all about. As long as we get through it together :D
For me the number 4 actually shows your passion as an architect
For sure. Sometimes you just get in that flow state and forget that time is flying by!
Hi Kyle, I'm from Germany and I'm interested in studying architecture abroad. Do you have an idea which country is best for studying architecture and getting a quick degree? (or maybe faster than in Germany)
Gracias, ahora no se qué hacer con mi vida
bro, its still awesome though. i mean the reason we get through is a passion.. but group work.. fuck that
Ahaha I feel that!
I will go for it
❤😊
Any advice for a 49 year old man who discovered architecture “too late in life” as a passion for career?
Go for gold! Do what makes you happy. I went through school with quite a few "senior" students, some older than yourself. In fact, one of my bosses started around your age.
Talking with some of these senior students, I discovered that they were much more switched on as it truly was their passion. Unlike some students who come straight out of highschool and are forced into University to follow the norm, impress parents/friends, etc.
After interviewing a number of architects and designers, I also discovered that a majority have said that having solid life experiences first before studying architecture is extremely beneficial and makes for a much better designer.
Good luck!
@@kylesinko I sincerely appreciate the reply. Thank you. Well spoken.
@@brown-brettstgermain9166 Thanks a lot. Cheers
This might sound foolish but I would like to know if you'll be able to work part time job while being an architecture student... I'm not from a that rich family so I'm afraid I won't be able to afford the material expenses :(
It would be really helpful if you can help by answering this question :)
Good luck!
Then How about me 31 yr. Old finished BScomsci. wants to study architecture? Pls answer if I still have a future.
Absolutely
I Accept the challenge! 👍
That's the spirit :D
Etc
Great to hear you have no regrets about the degree. Thanks for sharing Allan!
Great advice.
Thanks Anthony
Studying architecture ruined my life
Even if it's not for you, you'll be thankful for the experience later in life!
I really want to be able to do architectural designing but I don't know what to do to get there, any tips?
Hey, to become an architect you need a degree in architecture. I would start by looking into that.
@@kylesinko any websites in particular? Like would looking into universities be best?
I will be in college by next year, I would like how I can prepare for architecture before going to college?
Also i love designing and drawing building because it is my passion
Hey sorry for the late reply! I have plenty of videos on my channel that talk about how to prepare, please feel free to check them out :) Cheers
Then you are a drawer . What's wrong with that ? I'm a brickie and a drawer and a master craftsman . And ?
Do that what you love .
one thing you need to know is you think you are good , but not the company think, you think you pay a lot of money and spend a lot of time to learn, that is just your think, so why not just accept the truth.
I already forget to eat and don’t rest jajajajaj
😅🤣
thank you for making this
You’re so welcome Jon. Cheers for watching!
Thx
Brilliant. Thanks a lot for an insightful comment. Cheers Sabrina I'll be back in 20 years ;)
