  • Changing careers mid-course comes with a lot of fear, self-doubt and stigma especially in African society. Despite dreaming of becoming an architect since she was a young girl and receiving a full scholarship to study it at university, Ms. Ankunda realised that architecture wasn't for her. She shares her personal journey to discovering her passion for computer science.
    Ms.Patience Ankunda is a computer science student at Uganda Christian University and founder of Afrocanfit, an African fitness company. She has also been a Google Developer Student Club lead at her university. I always tell people to take engineering or architecture or medicine courses with passion but if its other options like market or trying....leave it cause it will bring much stress work

      @@blossom3129 it just wasnt for me. The studio culture, mean professors, and heavy workload stressed me out 🤷‍♀️ and to think it was only my first year lmao. I dreaded doing plates and the thought of doing it for 7 more years before getting a low starting salary didn't sit right w me

      @@rk.r2439 i have a 2 year experience working as an architect, and i can confidently say that you made the right choice

      @@chriszin94is it really that bad? I really wanna know how is it like to work after graduation

    • @chriszin94
      @chriszin94 11 месяцев назад

      @@mirassama4604 look the starting salaries are really not worth the time you have spent getting the degree. Also there is a lot of unpaid overtime, which disrupts your work life balance, and not to mention horrible bosses sometimes who take their stress out on you. Plus, since a lot of projects take 1-3 years to complete, working for months on the same buildings got really repetitive for me. So there you go, that is my experience. Doesn't mean that you will have a similar one, and i would advise you to get the degree if you are close to finishing it, but there are always other options if the architect work life doesn't suit you.
