  • First impressions of the Timemore 078s grinder. It’s great but unforgiving. Ensure you break all the clumps in the container with a WDT tool to curb channeling. My preference is for longer ratios, 2.5-3:1. In 25-35 seconds. For this method, the grinder works really well. At finer grind, you will experience channeling. #timemore #078s #espresso #grinder #coffee #coffeegrinder #coffeegrinders

      Glad you found it useful. I can’t emphasise enough how important puck preparation is with this grinder. Any flaws are highlighted which is probably why some are struggling. Ensure you break down all the boulders in the container with the WDT tool, distribute the grinds well in the basket and have a consistent tamping technique. Do that and you’ll not regret buying it. Hope you get yours soon!

      @@UnderstandingCoffee thank you! I happy that seasoning isn’t as critical as everyone who got it earlier made it seem like. I don’t mind WDT and I wouldn’t skip it regardless, but thank you for the tip for sure!

    You are absolutely right. Coming from a 1Zpresso Kplus Conical, the 64s flat is unforgiving. But I can say for sure that after about a 1KG of grinding it has improved quite a lot. I am also discovering flavors that I have not gotten to date. Also minute adjustments to the dial has a massive effect on the extraction time. For context 1.0 grind size equates to 12 seconds roughly when extracting with a 30 sec preinfusion.

      @UnderstandingCoffee  9 месяцев назад

      So true! The flavours are amazing. I agree- the dial isn’t the most user friendly

    I had the same impression too.. upgraded from niche.. and tasted more Yumz than Niche..even at brand new grind!

      Absolutely. For dark roast, I couldn’t genuinely differentiate between the two. But for medium and light roast, there’s no comparison.

    Thank you for sharing my friend. I just got this yesterday too. I find the same, unforgiving, but if you hit the sweet spot, exceptional. The only thing I’m struggling with at the moment is fine tuning the grind to dial in. I’m finding moving just a few numbers goes from serious choking to far too fast a flow. I found some middle ground but I’m still adjusting.
    Is it really the case that 3.2 is very different from 3.6 for example. That I shall discover

    • @UnderstandingCoffee
      @UnderstandingCoffee  9 месяцев назад +3

      Absolutely. It’s tricky as even small movements produce large changes. I think if you’re just close to optimal, it would be easier to increase or decrease the dose or ratio rather than change the grind size

    • @briers9
      @briers9 9 месяцев назад +2

      It took another 4 shots but I’ve hit it almost bang on. I’m quite surprised at the range calibration. 3.3 was a no go and choked. 3.5 was about 1.2:5 17g in 42g out. Which works fantastic on my lighter roast. It happened in 34 sec. I’ve tweaked it to 3.6 on the dial but I’m done for the day. Will be interesting to see if I hit 27-30 sec at such a small dial change tomorrow morning.

      It will be better from time to time, if the burrs are more seasoned i gues :)

      instead of fking more coffee, just updose by 0.5g instead of tweaking the grind size.

    How is the grind uniformity going as time goes on?

    • @UnderstandingCoffee
      @UnderstandingCoffee  8 месяцев назад +1

      I have put about 3 kg so far. Subjectively the grinder seemed to be easier to use. Unfortunately light/medium roasts still come out very clumpy and require a lot of agitation in the container to break them down. My grinder has developed a fault- the PCB is probably faulty. Timemore have been very helpful and shipped out a replacement board within a week. Hopefully I’ll be able to start using the grinder again.

      It’s a great grinder. Do remember to WDT in the container for a minute or longer. Makes a massive difference especially when it’s not seasoned.

      @@UnderstandingCoffee I am apprehensive about the unseasoned burrs. Just ordered a few kilos of bulk coffee to run through the burrs.

    • @UnderstandingCoffee
      @UnderstandingCoffee  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@KrishnenduKes In that case, I’d suggest seasoning with a couple of kilos and then experiment. You really don’t need to run 6 kg through it.

    Regarding the boulders, I imagine realigning the burrs might help, but such a pain to do. I know...lots of video reviews make it seem like it's super easy, but for the average joe, taking the burrs out of your brand new machine and testing them and shimming them, etc., seems like a harrowing and potentially risky task.

    • @UnderstandingCoffee
      @UnderstandingCoffee  9 месяцев назад +2

      So true! I haven’t checked but most folks who have checked think they are well aligned. I wouldn’t attempt to realign them and I’m not sure if it’s really possible and how much difference it makes.
