I don’t own a TV. I hate reality shows. But after working professionally in kitchens most of my life I can honestly say I love this guy, cause he’s right. He finally says out loud what we all are thinking; the service is mediocre, the quality of the food is shit and can sometimes even sicken customers. If you saw the walk-in fridges in most restos you’d be horrified.

Everyone talks about how quickly Gordon Ramsay gets angry.
Go watch the first season. He literally is far more civil, nice and understanding. And NOBODY respected him, NOBODY gets better and SO MUCH food was wasted, it was ridiculous. I'm sorry but I am on Ramsay's side on this issue. He may snap but when YOU have to waste MASSIVE amounts of food (some of it very expensive), nobody respects you or listens to you and people try to cop an attitude on YOUR show in YOUR kitchen with the opportunity YOU ARE GIVING THEM because you're nice....
You may just get a quick temper from it too.
Kitchens are an extremely stressfull environment. You NEED to be on point, do everything perfectly or else everything goes to shit.
Ramsay has every right to get angry and spew insults, Hells Kitchen's contestants are supposed to be "professional" or at least experienced chefs, so he expects that they put their best effort into running a fast-paced restaurant. Unlike Masterchef where everything is more chilled, the contestants are just homecooks if I'm not mistaken.

Side note, the amount of relief I get from this show when Gordon calls a chef to tell them they cooked good is uncanny-
“This is not personal, this is professional!” is probably the best way to describe Gordon on the show. When it’s service and customers are on the line, he needs to push. When it’s a challenge he can be fun and comedic and calm. Or if a competitor has a problem he will try to respect their boundaries.

Exactly. Gordon throws insults when it becomes necessary, but at the end of the day he doesn't yell them for no reason. That's why he can easily switch between insulting someone and telling them that they cooked a dish perfectly because that's all he needs from them. If it was personal, Gordon would start holding grudges against them, but since it's just professional all that's needed to shut Gordon up is to do the job correctly.
@@iamawatcher9201 He's insulting them because it makes "good television". In reality, it's not professional and doesn't help these people perform to their best standards. There are far better, respectful ways of getting people to work to their best ability.
There is no evidence to suggest that people work better under pressure and it is not surprising that people are more prone to making mistakes when they are stressed.

That moment where he almost crosses the line with Giovanni and nuts him one with his screaming right in his face, you can't tell me that's effective motivation! If I had to deal with that all the time, I'd be too damn miserable and depressed to work.
If that was effective, then surely chefs everywhere would be taking a leaf out of Gordon's book and shouting abuse at their staff? But no, because it'd be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I know why Gordon is so mad with these chefs. Before air, they are already trained and tried to cook the dishes. All manuals and tips to nail the dishes are already provided. Gordon only asks for perfection and consistency.

Food is an art think about if you were making a painting and there was a slight smudge on it, it’s the same thing. Due to your past traumas of course you’d react like that but in the kitchen it’s a whole different world. Just bite your tongue down and do better and I promise you it feels 100x better when all works out for a chef

Gordon would make an excellent Marine drill instructor. When I first saw an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, and didn't know much about him, one of my thoughts was did he serve in the Royal Marines, as a drill instructor. Even though he didn't serve in the British military, he still has the attitude, and the bark of a drill instructor.
Watching Kitchen Nightmares, and Hell's Kitchen reminds me of the scenes in the first half of the movie Full Metal Jacket with gunnery sergeant Hartman.

Gordon Ramsay insulting these chefs makes for good TV, but if this is what really goes on in the food industry, then I guess a lack of professionalism is standard for that industry.
