Like telling a contestant in the dining room "If any customers complain, don't hesitate to send them to Ramsey". They know Ramsey hates being interrupted during service. And they give him carte blanche to react however he pleases. Without the producers, those people might not have dared go to the pass. Or had Ramsey had a great day or in a particularly good mood, he might have been more tactful. The producers spend their time setting up such little situations hoping they pan out for camera.

In theory the person being sabotaged is supposed to know better at that point and catch it. When you're early in the competition and struggling, Gordon just sees your sabotage attempts as a way to distract from your own failings and calls it out.

Think, what happens when the hot water gets to the same temperature as the cold waters starting temperature? Why wouldn't it take just as long to get the rest of the way to freezing like the water that started at that temperature?

He was super tough on her and told her she would never have a restaurant above a fast food joint. I’ve noticed that since that season, he seems to have let up a bit on his contestants. Her name was Rachel Brown.
