    As a dog owner - for all 3 of my babies we had a baby blanket that we would wrap them in after they were born. My husband brought that blanket home before I left the hospital and let our dog smell the baby. It was amazing how our shepherd mix reacted. He was so calm when we brought the boys home, he just knew they were apart of us and are family❤

    Tip we got from friends was put all your baby outfits separated from vest to hat in little sandwich bags and label 1st, 2nd and home etc so if there is a need to change every thing is together and you don't have to rummage in the baby bag for bits. Also bring a extra long extension lead incase the socket it far from the bed. Such an exciting time. So happy for you and Jack and 1st and 2nd born Drogba and juno x

    Hey I’m a midwife. I would recommend 100% taking your colostrum, most hospitals with have a fridge where you can keep it. If you don’t end up using it, take it home in a cool bag!

  • @maryprieckaerts
    @maryprieckaerts Год назад +3

    Bring more pj's for yourself and some day clothes in case you end up staying for longer, blood will end up getting everywhere no matter how your birth goes so wouldn't advise white or light colour clothes. Bring more clothes for baby also in case of accidents. You don't need to bring your colostorum you will be producing more anyway and you can harvest while there also. Get clips for your dummies or they will end up on the floor! Sending best wishes for you all, so excited to see your beautiful angel xx

    I wish you a wonderful speedy delivery. To say you are over prepared is an understatement 😂 I waddled into hospital with flip flops and a sundress, a diaper bag full of baby essentials and a change of clothes for me 42 years ago. Gave birth 3 times and they’re now my best friends, my ride or die, my Wolfpack. Zoe is another favorite of mine, I’m sure she has great advice for you. You will be a wonderful mommy. God bless 🙏

    also(last comment I swear lol) ;
    -talk to baby like an adult from the start,it helps their language development.
    -keep the house as noisy as possible like when you're doing things. It helps caise it means they'll sleep easier and longer so when you're vacuuming and stuff they'll be used to the noise.
    -try to avoid dummies. It helps not using them at all but if you are then as little as possible cause it'll be much easier to wean them off it if they develop a dependence.

    Hi Jamie! student midwife here - we always recommend you take expressed colostrum in with you for your birth! Just incase for any reason baby girl doesn't take to the breast straight away. The hospital will have a breastmilk fridge/freezer. It can be at room temp for 6 hours :) love love love the plans for your labour room and hypnobirthing techniques! congratulations in advance xx

      Yh I was going to say the same thing. Also, If you don't want baby to have formula it provides an option in case you have surgery or a procedure and baby needs milk while you are occupied. I was in this situation and will definitely be taking colostrum in.

    Jamie, you are a breath of fresh air. Your hospital packing video is so real and helpful. I am 37 weeks so just one week behind you but I’m also a midwife (however I didn’t pack my bag until Monday and I really struggled too!) I wouldn’t recommend taking your robe out unless you’re not precious about it being ruined. You don’t need towels but you may need more maternity pads. You’ll want to change them often. With regards to the colostrum harvesting, once they are defrosted, they have to be used within 24 hours. Do you have a cooler bag? If not, you can take 1-2 syringes with you but it sounds like you have a great supply anyway! Good luck with everything. I’m very excited for you and Jack!❤

    Good luck 🥰 I gave birth in Scotland 3 weeks ago, spa music and combs were what got me through the surges! After labour I stayed one night and walked around naked in my disposable pants and flip flops because at that point all dignity was out the window and the hospital was unbearably hot. Otherwise I would recommend something light, short sleeved and with buttons. The frida kit was wonderful. You can ask the hospital for maternity pads but the cold packs from frida were 10/10!!! Also top tip when you pee after birth lean forward and touch your toes, it directs the pee in a way that won’t sting 😄 also H&M maternity bras are super comfortable

    So excited for you!! I gave birth almost 6 weeks ago as a first time mum (spoiler: being a mum is amazing and so so special) so my advice from experience would be: my midwives advised against going mad with the spritz for bits because overuse can lead to infection so maybe just be mindful. I also used a peribottle for my first pee after labour and didn't realise that they monitor how much you pee in a sample pot to make sure you're peeing enough after labour and I threw off the measurements by using the peri so maybe ask the midwives before using? I had a baby pink dressing gown and it was absolutely fine so don't worry about the white one, I double layered the Frida pants with the maternity pads and never leaked plus you'll probably be mindful of how often you need to change your pad. So excited for you and Jack, baby girl is coming soooooon xxx

    I don’t know if it’s the same in the UK but here in Canada they only feed mum. So you need LOTS OF SNACKS/FOOD. We were in hospital for 5 days because our baby had jaundice and my husband didn’t want to leave! Having lots of food was so necessary and our laptop for movies!!

    14:12 what I learned having 4 babies…always have a backup box in your husband’s car when you’re in hospital, saves waiting until he comes back..sanitary towels, nappies,wipes , clothes, underwear for you and night gowns etc. I didn’t hear you mention scratch gloves for baby, may have missed it, but a must I think. Wishing you all the luck in the world, enjoy her as much as you possibly can, you don’t get the one on one time with subsequent children and although sometimes overwhelming it’s a unique experience. I also had numbers etc in case I needed them for help with post natal depression etc as it’s impossible to research the best when you’re in it , hopefully not needed but a godsend if you do. Love to you and Jack x

    As a Mom, personally I think you have everything you need! You did great! The only thing I winced at was the white clothes. I don't know if that's a good idea. You don't know how heavily or not you will bleed after. My best advice honestly is to switch over the light and white colors to dark. When you don't think you will have leaking issues, is EXACTLY when you will. And you definitely won't want to be wearing white or light gray when it does happen. Otherwise, great job!!

  • @sbk311

    I would recommend to take atleast half of your colostrum, in a cool bag with a ice pack (my midwife kindly put it in their milk freezer but not always possible).
    I say this because you never know how birth will go and if your body or baby is in any type of shock you may struggle straight away to feed. I’m talking from experience, I am still so glad I harvested colostrum at home because it saved me the first 2 days as dad had to feed my little girl to start. We didn’t take it with us and the midwife sent us home to get it as we got to the hospital, I would say you’re better off having it with you and taking it home if you don’t need it, I found anyway.
    You can also harvest whilst you’re still in the hospital which can encourage milk to come in sooner.
    Good luck with everything ☺️☺️

    • @sbk311
      @sbk311 Год назад

      P.S. a little tip which helped everybody around me (dad, midwife’s etc)
      I labelled and packed all baby’s clothes in size order, so one packing square of newborn and then the same 0-3 etc). But also packed it as a grow and vest, hat and mittens folded all together x3 and popped it in one packing square. That way whilst I couldn’t change Etta or get to the bag so easily they could just reach in and take a whole outfit folded together.
      I hope that makes sense haha.

    This all looks perfect! Anything to make you more comfortable. All I can suggest is black clothes if blood makes you uncomfortable (in case of a section) and colostrum, speak to the hospital about storing. In Brighton they refrigerate it immediately, I took 15 in and my baby had them all and needed more from home. (You can’t pump for 48hours and baby had a tongue tie so unable to feed till she was snipped 12 days later ). So much love from a mummy with a 6week old. You’re amazing 😻 xx

    I highly recommend Tena lady pants! The hospital give you disposable pants for straight after but they are very uncomfortable & they don’t always have good sizes. They do give you pads but they are just think lumps so best to take your own. Tena lady pants are the pads & pants in one but you can add a pad for extra security.
    I also took nighties, dark with buttons (easy access) because I breastfed xxx

One tip is I packed for my fiancé too , I made sure I had snacks, juice , pillow and blanket for him because the hospital really only cares about you and the baby. As I’m through with the ability to get pregnant as I’ve moved into the adult children stage. If you’re open to it I suggest looking into a belly binder. I purchased mine in 2000 online so most likely much more available. My mother told me how she was wrapped after giving birth and your belly is supported from the moment after birth when all the birth sack is cleared. I live in the states and they were very accommodating my request of putting it on after my delivery. I highly recommend as I wore it for the first 6 months felt so supported immediately after giving birth and longer is not harmful it’s just an individual choice. I had support and many cultures use this method of support. Wishing you all the best❤️

    I think the pillow is a great idea, I brought my actual pillow for baby 2 and it made such a difference, especially if you’re in for longer or being induced. I suggest bringing lavender oil. I sprinkled some on a muslin cloth and found it so helpful, sniffing that and my playlist got me to 5cm with my 2nd feeling very zen and calm and now lavender always reminds me of that time and makes me smile. Also if you have been using and like your birth ball bring that in case they haven’t got one available for you to use. I left mine in car and ended up not needing it cos they found me one but was good knowing the back up was there! I also brought make up…I didn’t care if people gave me funny looks as I put it one cos it helped me feel like me! Sending all the calm, positive, mother goddess vibes to you! ❤

    I have not given birth but i have been in hospital a lot and the main tips I give out are to french braid your hair into two braids to stop it from matting while you are lying back and to definitely bring a brush incase you want to take them out. As well as face cleansing wipes i would also bring just some babywipes for you so you can do a ‘sit down bath’ by just wiping down your pits and underboobs for a wee refresh. Also a super hydrating lip balm is a must because of the air conditioning. I would also recommend ear plugs for both you and Jack so you can hopefully sleep through all the beeping and hospital noises if need be. And finally, dont feel you are being too extra with make up or skin care! It made me feel so normal and refreshed just doing my wee skin care routine from bed ❤️

    I wore the hospital gown when my first child was born, and I HATED it. For my next 2 births I just wore loose comfy pants, a tank top, and a sports bra. I would recommend darker coloured bottoms during labour (if you’re not in the water) and for the next week or so after as well. I also brought a really soft throw blanket that I love with me for comfort. I brought my headphones for my hypnobirthing play list but never ended up using it. I didn’t bring a ton because I never planned on staying long and luckily didn’t have to. Best of luck to you Jamie and to Jack as well! So a couple of things that helped me that you might be missing. I took arnica tablets after labour for about a week. They are natural and help with swelling and bruising and I feel like they really helped me. Jelly babies are good for the snack bag.
    I also harvested colostrum and we chose to leave it at home as I'd heard stories of it being lost/mixed up with other people's in the hospital. We luckily got to go home the same day but if you do need to stay in then jack could go home and get what you need. You're gonna smash it 💪💕

    Hello! Just watched your hospital bag vlog and as a midwife myself aswell as recently having my first baby I just wanted to give a bit of advice
    - I’d take at least 3 baby hats. Baby will need a hat straight on her when she is born which will get covered in all sorts 🥴 you’ll want at least 1 for in the hospital and then a clean one for going home.
    - definitely take more than 6 nappies, I’d take a whole pack as they wee quite a lot when first born.
    - don’t take your own paracetamol. Midwives need to keep track of what medications you’ve had and when to make sure they don’t give you anything that might then overdose you if they aren’t aware you’ve taken your own. Last thing you want is being asked too many questions about what you’ve taken when you’re trying to focus on labour.
    - take some arnica tablets with you. They’re a great natural remedy for bruising whatever type of delivery you have. I love the weleda ones.
    I hope this helps but you’ve done an amazing job at packing as a first time mum! I hope it all goes smoothly for you 😊 becoming a mum is the best thing ever! Xx

    Colostrum: epic to have the first or second night. So dad can do one feed and you can rest and sleep! Bring it in a frozen cooler. Contact the unit and ask if you can have it in their freezer or fridge. Newborns only eat a few ml a day. So you’d only need to bring like 10-20ml.

    Omg the most prepared 1st time mommy ever!! I wish i would've thought to spruce up the room!!! Such a good idea honestly. Hospital's are not the vibe. I had a c section with my son, and had to syltay in a shared room for 3 days . It wasn't my favorite, looking back these tips are everything ❤ ily and sending hugs and good health to your whole family 🌻

    Hey Jamie. On the colostrum front I think the fact that your able to express a fair wee bit at the moment personally I’d leave it in the house for future use (Mum & Grannie so more from experience). Good luck with the birth and your new gorgeous girl. Exciting times ahead xxxx

    Spritz for bits was a life saver , also if you keep that in your fridge when you get home then spray it on maternity pads it’s so soothing . Also promotes healing! Wishing you all the best with the birth of your little one ❤

    I can not stress to you enough…dark clothes 🥹🥹 I made this mistake myself! I recommend like at least 3 different pairs of black or dark pants or shorts. Also definitely recommend taking your colostrum! 💜

    I brought earplugs and an eye mask with me since the rooms at the hospital have 4-6 beds ( I was in a glasgow hospital as well 😛)in them so it dulled the noise a wee bit and I also got brought to the ward at 4am and they turn all the lights on at 8 so the eye mask was a great help !! Peri bottle was a lifesaver as well for the first few days and the spritz for bits is great as well, I sprayed it on the maternity pads and it felt amazing🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 good luck when the time comes to you both !!! ❤️❤️ xx

    I also packed a bag of "spares" for my husband in case I was kept in! With more baby vests, baby grows, nappies for baby and pants etc for me! Made us both feel a lot less stressed about me and baby possibly being kept in. Good luck Jamie, such a special time xxx

    Hi, as a soon to be qualified midwife. I would definitely recommend to take your colostrum into hospital. You can buy a little freezer bag with the freezer blocks to bring it in and keep it frozen and then the hospital will have a freezer to store it in. It’s so great incase little one needs it, but if not you can take it back home! So excited to see your journey ❤

    • @hannahstephenson837
      @hannahstephenson837 Год назад

      I would also take lots of baby vests and baby grows as you will go through more than you think. Better to have too many than not enough. The hospital will have nappies if you run out but I would take lots of those too so you have them x

    Definitely well prepared, only thing I would suggest is definitely take more pads, you can never have too many of them. I had both my girls are Wishaw and they did provide pads but I preferred the ones I had. 😊xx

    I also packed night gowns they were so much more comfortable than the hospital gowns and leggings. Our typical hospital stay in the USA is 2 to 3 days. IDK how it is in Scotland. I wish you all the best have a relaxing week so you can have enough rest before you go in labor. I have given birth 4 times and that always helped me.

    Just thinking ahead... My friend just had a baby and she's got a ikea trolley with all the baby bits in it that she needs and she can wheel it around her house! It has 3 shelves. It's brilliant. So many little bits you'll need in that newborn phase (nappies wipes hand San bottles pump teats tissues etc breast pump) and if your vag is sore, you won't want to be getting up all the time. All the best for your birth Jamie, I'm feeling very positive for you. Sending lots of love x

    the white nightie might not be the best idea. also consider packing yourself another pair of socks, or two. Another pair of jammies or at least pants. And definitely a jumper! Every hospital is different with what they supply and what they don’t. if your baby checkups are at the hospital you’re delivering at, ask them at your next appointment (if she doesn’t arrive before then lol) what the hospital provides for mom postpartum. you can also call the birthing center at the hospital and ask. In the US most hospitals only have size 1 diapers for babies. and i’d bring a few NB. both my boys were between 7-8lbs and the size 1s were too big for them. You may want to bring one or two bottles of your colostrum and a bottle. Just in case she has trouble latching right away. some hospitals will give you a plastic syringe to feed baby the colostrum if they have trouble latching right away. I know this is a long comment, sorry lol. One last thing you may want to bring, is some balm or lotion for baby girl. if you are in the hospital for a day or two her sweet little skin will get pretty dry. ❤❤ thank you for sharing with us! can’t wait for you to meet your precious baby girl!! And where is that sweat set you had in from? i think i need one!!

The bottle will be your Best Buy I’m sure, I bought my sister one last year for her 1st and she’s due again this summer so I will be purchasing the spitz for bitz for her

    I had a baby in July 22 and the one product I’ve recommended to everyone since are the Tena lady silhouette black pants. Didn’t use pads once and they’re so comfy. I bled a lot during labour so I don’t know if that meant I bled less afterwards🤷🏽‍♀️ I didn’t use the cold pack pads either, I just never felt I needed them even though I’d had to have an episiotomy. But having these pants meant I was comfortable and there was nothing bulky going on down there. Sitting down was a dream. 10000% recommend. They will be the first thing I purchase if I have a second baby.
