    That metal tube is called a Slide, used for Slide Guitar. They most always either made of Metal or Glass.
    All those guys he named, they are all old Black Blues Guitar Legends. I think this song is an old John Lee Hooker song.
    All those guys are the OG originals. Rock took the blues and changed the beat, lyrics and attack, but the good old basic 12 bar blues is the root.
    You should listen to George play this from the studio version too.

      And Elvin Bishop is a blues legend too. He had them eating out of his hand when he was in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, his blues credentials are indisputable.

      @@GonzGunner Saw him with Butterfield at the Fillmore in San Francisco, 1969. He killed it, I think he was maybe 18. He took a wild, three-chorus solo on one tune, absolutely flying, and one of the horn players had to pull him back before he started a fourth.

      It's a little different. A guitar slide slips over a finger (usually the pinky) while the slide used for lap steel and pedal steel guitar is a solid slide which is held in the hand instead of slipped on the finger.

    As others pointed out, he's listing off a bunch of blues legend and, at each name, Elvin plays a little snippet in the style of each artist mentioned.
    And this was waaaay back 1985.
    And it still holds up well.

    I was fortunate enough to see George Thorogood and the Destroyers open for the Pretenders...who then opened for U2 in Oakland, it was the Joshua Tree tour....awesome!

    BB Kong is quite frankly the king on the blues! Muddy Waters is the outlaw of the blues, and Johnny Lee Hooker might as well be the godfather of the blues! I could name blues players for a long time but all of them and many more shaped the face of blues rock and roll and R and B

    The pinky pipe is a slide. You'll notice the guitar sounds different when he uses it. It makes the sound resonate differently when the string is strummed.

    I had his first 3 records, vinyl, all great, no bad songs. This guy is amazing! He got me into the blues during a very bad time when disco was king. What a horrible thing to happen to music. The other band I found that saved me from disco was The Stray Cats. Another Great Band!

You never heard of slide guitar? Well you said you didn't know anything about guitar. The thing on the guy's finger is called a slide. It's a staple of blues music. But I like "Pinky Pipe," so now it has a new name. The people he's naming are all Blues Legends. You have to check them all out!     I was only a groupie once. It was with George Thorogood in 1977, maybe 1978. I don't remember that very well, but I remember his performance earlier that night. Awesome.

    Have I heard this song? Yes, many times before. This song gets better during live performances. George Thorogood (and The Destroyers) illustrate the blues during their performances. I love the album version, but I enjoy the live performances much better.

    Saw him at Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC. Small venue capacity 750. A real blast, and a perfect venue for this type of music.

    Hound Dog Taylor had 11 fingers I believe. He also mentions BB King, Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins. All great players. I'm surprised you don't know these guys. I'm white and I knew these guys from when I was like 13 years old and I'm 30 now. My dad played a lot of Lightning Hopkins around the house.
