Thank you so much my darling for your hard work and for inspiring us to be better and do really good work. She was and always be my mentor. I can listen to her all day long talking and being the beautiful human being that she was. ❤️🥰
Melanie, thanks for this great project. It's also great to see what a work horse the JUKI is for you. To know your machine handles multiple levels of vinyl easily is great to see. Something to help with the vinyl moving along while you sew is a product called Stitch in the Ditch. You attach to the bottom of the vinyl with a clip. Sew just like you are showing through all the layers and tear-away when finished. Should make it much easier to move through the machine. Also, if people have questions about operating their JUKI, like threading, programming and bobbin info, they can hop over to our SEW-MINI Things channel for tutorials on how to use their JUKIs. Thanks again for continuing to inspire all the makers out there!
YAY so glad you are back with great sewing STUFF and hopefully more quilting. Happy to know you are doing well (health-wise) can't wait for your tutorials.
I’m so excited. I was just thinking about your videos. Yay sewing!! Just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me to sew. I first started watching your videos years ago. I have a special needs daughter and started with sewing her feeding supply items and bibs. I still have a LOT to learn. Hopefully i can pick up crochet. Something to do while we wait. Thanks again and so happy to see some more tutorials 🥰
Helpful tip: For the tab sticking out, why not use clear tape to hold it in place while you sew? Then you can remove the tape after your done sewing that area. You could tape both sides of the tab to prevent it from moving. :)
Tip: If the leather wants to stick to the presser plate use either a roller presser foot or if you don't have one put some blue painters tape on the presser plate to help prevent the leather from sticking to it while you are sewing. If you don't have blue painters tape you can place some tissue paper under the vinyl (between the leather and plate) you will have to tear away the paper when you are done. There are different hacks you can use to prevent the leather from sticking.
hi Melanie, so glad your feeling and looking better.xxxx yay im a sew'er, not so much a quilter.....cant wait to see what other projects you have coming, have an awesome day...love from Australia
Awesome project for gift cards etc. So many materials to use for this. I bet Kraftex would be awesome too. Kraftex? I think that’s right. The paper stuff that’s essentially indestructible. Haha!
What thickness is the clear vinyl? You didn't mention that in the video... Also I've heard that if you put tissue paper underneath your vinyl it wont stick to the throat plate when sewing, and then you just tear it off when done sewing it.
I'm wondering why not just use a longer length and fold it in half? Then you can tuck the tab into the open side, top stitch the fold, and completely avoid having to use glue on those two open areas. Or even make those two smaller so they're just like a seam if you don't care what the inside looks like.
absolutely! It's not hard to move the vinyl along - just something to watch, especially with a small piece like this (bigger ones are trickier), BUT you totally can use a fabric like faux leather too!

Oh my goodness, I just discovered this channel and now so shocked to learn she is no longer with us…so very sad…God Bless Melanie 🙏
I put a tissue underneath while I sew vinyl and just peel it off when it’s all done. It just glides through!
Very cool. I love this idea. You're a great instructor
so quick cute and enjoyable. Thanks.

I’m so excited for a sewing tutorial!!
Your videos are my favorite

How many wallets to you think you could get through before having to change your needle?
Super cute! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Can’t wait for the new Quilt Along:)
What gauge vinyl for these bifold wallets

Haven’t worked w/ vinyl, could hear how super sticky it is, can see why you don’t necessarily need a closure, cute.
Love this! What type of foot are you using? My walking foot doesn't work well with vinyl.
She is using a Teflon foot. If you don’t have one, you can try sticking scotch tap to the bottom of your sewing foot, it’s a common tip that I see.
I’m 2 years late 😬 but can a piece of magnet be put in before sewing?
It’s iron vinyl or just faux leather? Or regular permanent vinyl?
Be careful doing too much reinforcing as the needle actually perforatesvthe vinyl which can cause it to just pull off. Cute project!

does anyone know where to get vinyl that DOESNT fade? ive bought some vinyl fabric and made a tube skirt and it faded within one use.
What nail polish did you use?! I love that color!!
Does it matter what machine I use for this?
Super cute!
Omg so cute! I’ve got faux leather vinyl I’m going to try this with!!! Does it need some sort of closure or will it hold everything in without?
my testers were holding things in well ;) Let me know how it goes for you!
Can you make a wallet out of fabric if that’s the only thing we have
shop.mybluprint.com/sewing/patterns/inspired-i-d-wallet/142851 this is the wallet I make out of fabric!
And its free! Just "add to cart" and it will download as PDF for you.
Very cute!
Luv it!
Awesome!
Very cute
Can I use faux leather to make one of these wallets? It looks pretty hard to move the vinyl along. Does it get stuck a lot in the machine?
absolutely! It's not hard to move the vinyl along - just something to watch, especially with a small piece like this (bigger ones are trickier), BUT you totally can use a fabric like faux leather too!
Melanie Ham thanks Melanie. I’ll give it a try. Great video.
