Great points. Even by just angling the throttle down a couple of notches really boosts the ergo of the finger throttle. The throttle out of factory for most scooters are set waaaaay too high of an angle. Actually helps the display legibility when you angle it down as well I’ve found with mine. I really hope ESG watches this video. Keep up the good work mate.
Agreed. I hadn't considered the thumb/finger trigger question before buying and ended up with thumb in a push forward configuration. It also didn't immediately click that I had cruise control, and I tended to keep the throttle pushed forward, which was indeed tiring, especially with small hands. I have since learned to modify my instinctive behavior and now use the throttle only when necessary
Great video! I fell for the rumor on this one too. The throttle is the part of the scooter you'll interact with the most, so knowing about the different styles is important.
My new Apollo Ghost came with a trigger throttle, and was debating a thumb throttle, but the more I ride it the more I think I like the trigger throttle. This video further cements my decision, thanks!
Thumb accelerator is good for slower speed and short distance. With trigger, you can control it very well even at high speed. It is also safe because you can lock your thumb on the grip to hold the bar better.
I prefer the thumb throttle, but I agree, the short thumb throttle can be tiring during long ride. i upgraded my 1st Ghost to long thumb throttle. Great video.
I just ordered the emove cruiser with the finger throttle because it makes more sense to me than the thumb throttle on my ninebot max. Glad I did. Good vid!
I have just bought a Dragon scooter with a dangerously fierce trigger throttle. Today on my 3rd ride, I found out what you just advised but also have a conflict with the brake lever which is now in the way of my index finger. I will try to angle it down further but my main complaint is the function of the throttle? It has to be turned very gradually if you want to avoid being thrown forward uncontrollably but the first 10 or 20 degrees does nothing and then it is fierce! What do you see as the solution to this?
Thanks! Good tip about the angle of the throttle! Was finding it so uncomfortable compared to my old thumb throttle, going to adjust mine now and see how it goes!
I was looking for a scooter that had about 25-30 mph top speed to a range of 20-25 miles. I stumbled uppon the Varla Pegasus and Kaabo Mantis 8. I thought the Mantis was better overall with smoother acceleration, more portability and less weight, pneumatic tires and a solid build. One thing I was worried about was how I would like the trigger throttle. The varla pegasus had a thumb throttle. Right now, I had a segway ninebot max which has the thumb throttle. As soon as I got the scooter, I faced the trigger throttle more downwards for more comfort and easily felt comfortable with this throttle body. I agree with your points in this video. One thing I have to thank you for is recommending the mantis 8 to me. Just got one and I loved it.
I was debating whether I replace the trigger throttle with the thumb throttle on my pre-ordered Zero 10X. After watching your video it makes sense that it would be more comfortable and more control using the trigger throttle. I’m use to just using my finger when it comes to braking and moving the clutch on a motorbike. With having the thumb wrapped around the handlebars at all times. Much safer too. Thank you for the video. And yes, I am new to the scooter world. I can’t wait to have fun. “ROCK ON”
I'm new to e-scooters and collect info before i buy my first one. I have to agree: the thumb-throttle already looks tiring, even without having tried it yet myself. Good info 👍
Only tried thumb so far, and my initial thought about trigger was.. that seems awkward. But tilting it down, it looks much better indeed. I find the thumb throttle is difficult to keep steady on uneven ground. I suspect trigger is better in that regard.
I too find that thumb throttles are much too tiring and causes hand/thumb cramping if traveling long distances with my scoot. Finger throttle is the only way to go for me. The "sqeeze" seems more natural ergonomically than "thumb pushing".
I have both scooter with thumb and trigger throttle (Gotrax gxl v2 250w -thumb throttle) and (evercross-800w trigger throttle) and i prefer THUMB throttle. The reason why is because there a hand brake on the right hand along with the trigger throttle; (the Evercross)the hand brake has to be adjusted downward in order for the trigger to feel comfortly leveled with the handle bar, or the if the handbrake is leveled, the trigger is about a 15-20% grade facing upwards which causes more stress to my hand.
awesome topic man! I have been always thinking the same way and wondering why they keep making thumb throttle, human thumb finger has a lot more power than other four fingers so I would rather use my thumb to hold the scooter tight than acceleration.
My current scooter is thumb throttle but i upgraded to the apollo ghost 2022 that has a trigger. Still waiting for it to arrive but this video makes me feel better about the trigger throttle.
I currently have a thumb throttle I have never tried a trigger throttle but personally I like thumb throttles more just from my experience with thumb throttles but I enjoyed the information of this video
Very helpful video. I just bought budget ninebot g30 max with thumb throttle and am waiting for vsett 10+ with index throttle control. My first mod was supposed to be changing it to thumb too, but I'll definitely give my factory setup a trial with that smart alignment (more horizontal than vertical). Thank you!
Twist throttle thoughts? Looking at the Emove Cruiser,, which has option of twist throttle, what do you recommend between twist and pull throttle? I come from motorbikes, which use a twist throttle.
Thanks for the video thanks to reddit I cancelled my thumb trigger upgrade for my Apollo pro yesterday. I have a max also and did 30km with no cruise on my hands were very cramped on return trip
Hi. I am handicapped on my right fingers, so right trigger throttle is a big no for me. Would you recommend a twist throttle? or is there a left trigger throttle available across the globe for me to get?
Twist throttles are hard to find on electric scooters but if you can find it then I think they are great. Just like riding a motorcycle. I have never seen a left handed throttle but surely they exist right? You could probably dig around on alibaba or aliepxress and find one
@@RK9Rides If i have a 48V scoot, any 48v throttle replacement should do right? I found a twist throttle 48V. A replacement for Emove Touring/Cruiser. I am not just sure if model/part number should matter.
The thumb throttle that's on the boosted rev is the best. I do like the trigger throttle as well, I haven't used the throttle you're speaking ,yet. Waiting for mines to come in from Apollo.
I learned the trigger throttle is up like that often times for shipping reasons and it looks to be for marketing too. The photos show the display better. But in actual use, you're standing over it and would probably want the display in a more laying down position than vertical. Having it so vertical is also bad for your wrist ergonomically.
My new Mantis dual is on back order after owning a WideWheel for 6 months. The thumb throttle on the WideWheel is ok, but after testing a few trigger throttle scooters (including the Mantis) I could feel how much more control a trigger gives you. Great points on your other video covering set up too! :)
Thanks for this video, I was about to "pull the trigger" on the thumb throttle, you saved me $80! My display/trigger is at a 30 degree angle, that's the best I can do which is fine om my Voro Emove Cruiser, I didn't notice any brakes blocking your ability to move the unit all the way down flat where my right brake prevents further movement.
@JC Hall -- How is the position of the trigger and brake now that it's been a few months? Is it working for you? I'm looking to get the Emove Cruiser and debating about which style to use. Thanks!
The reason why people have it tilted up is that they're riding sitting down, otherwise, you won't be able to see the throttle display (I only adjust until I read the display). Whenever I ride standing up, I know I have to adjust it. Fact: Trigger throttle was used on Gopeds since the '90s but were later swapped out for half twist and thumb throttle because of comfort. After 30 min of riding your index finger will be sore. To me, a trigger throttle is more sporty (cool) than practical. I think the half-twist throttle is the best overall. You should try it out, they have it with the LCD display.
I got both thumb and finger and thumb is much more comfortable for acceleration and braking, especially braking that’s essentially one half second or Millie second can save your life so take everything into consideration if you have a finger your will have a harder time trying to hit the brakes as with thumb is much smoother and faster, he was right about you thumb cramping up but your finger will do the same get uncomfortable after a while on both ends.
I originally had the Max with the thumb throttle. Then I got the 300X with the twist. I am finding I preferred the thumb throttle for scooters even tho I have decades of motorcycle riding throttle experience. Now I just need to see if I can convert my twist to a thumb on my 300X.
anyone you raced motocross already has index and middle finger on the front brake and clutch. it was second nature with the trigger throttle. thumb throttles are meant for quads
I have a trigger throttle and the first thing I did was adjust the angle of the trigger. I still find it awkward and my finger definitely cramps. Plus having trigger throttle AND trigger brakes mean you have to weave your fingers through both triggers in a strange way and if you let go you might mistakenly grab the wrong one when your hand returns to the handle bar. I don't have access to a thumb throttle but the rented scooters I've tried with one seem more comfortable to use.
Nice video, so far having tried twist throttle and trigger throttle,I like the trigger better as well. The twist had me in a few accidents that could have been avoided had Ibnot been simply holding the handbags lol...we live and learn tho,for cruising or flying the trigger is easiest and most fun imo
When I moved to a trigger scooter it was disconcentring at first, switching between throttle and braking and my glove would sometimes interfere with the brakes.. A littler adjustment on the lever and technique solved the issue. For short rides, almost no difference, but the longer you go , the easier the trigger.is
I have a thumb throttle and experience no fatigue (1 hour plus ride, divided in 2 parts). It's comfortable, natural. Prefer thumb. Still wouldn't skip having a Mantis for that reason. ;)

That's definitely a possibility but the more you use a trigger throttle the most intuitive it will get. Thumb throttles definitely make it impossible to confuse the throttle and brake though
There's no better or worse since it's personal preference. It's only a comparison. 1:43 that's partly because upright is better to look at the display, especially under the sun. Not everyone use a phone for speedo. And being upright is slightly better to prevent being mistake the throttle as the brake. It's kinda like pneumatic vs solid tires, or standing vs sitting debate. Thumb throttle is okay and easy to use, i would recommend the option of cruiecontroll with them otherwise they get uncmfortable fast. Never tried trigger but i tried twist and it was way better even as only half the grip area was twisting
great video and agree with the positioning of brakes and throttle. sadly and most frustratingly, the kaabo skywalker handle bar, perhaps not wide enough or because it requires room to fold down, the brake levers and the throttle cannot be moved further inward, so they all end up cramped together with the fingers in the way of each other and no room to comfortably place or use them on brake and throttle without overlapping, blocking and literally dangerous and fumbling with the lever and trigger on top of each other! no wonder the throttle is perhaps, in my case, have to be angled up so as to be kept out of the way of overlapping the brake lever, preventing the trigger from being pulled, etc. etc. 😤😤😤
Unfortunately not, they only come on a few models, Dualtron (of course) and Kaabo Wolf Warrior. They are more responsive and have lower lag than the other (unbranded) one.
They should always make it an option for a full twist not half not just others that’s fine too but full twist allows me to handle and hold the grips fully like I want to. I just like full twist not that any other is bad or anything.
Was thinking about getting a m365 pro and doing the monorim v2 front suspension mod.. now I’m thinking mantis exactly like yours haha. Is it a much better choice? Plan is to use it for a 12 mile commute. Your suggestion?? :)
I have a Zero 8 with a finger-throttle in horisontal position. And auto-pilot om top of that. Still though - I would prefer a thumb-throttle. This throttle really is inherently better. Most people have the acceleration-option on max. Therefore they want to have better acceleration-control with a finger-throttle. Change to slower acceleration, and enjoy better ergonomic comfort with the thumb-throttle. At least let the buyer choose for himself with type of throttle he wants - also on high-end scooters.
THUMB IS WAY BETTER. It's counter intuitive to TRIGGER accelerate because in everything we ride like bikes, motocycles, that finger is reserved for braking. Just converted my scooter to thumb throttle and I can use my brakes so much better now
Trigger throttle allows the hand's most strongest part your thumb to grip the handlebars and your weakest finger to press the trigger, the opposite with the thumb throttle.
I prefer the thumb throttle with a 5 or 10 second auto-cruise control. I used to like the thumb throttle for a bit, until i find it always blocking the right handbrake lever. It isnt confusing, its just in the way...
I agree thumb level throttles are better than trigger throttles / thumb level throttles are easier to push down & you don’t have to stretch your finger around the trigger to get the scooter going / it’s less stress on the finger / & it’s definitely more comfortable / thumbs throttles are better 👀 / scooters manufacturers start making more scooters 🛴 with thumb throttles 👀

an upright throttle is a common issue causing the magnet to become stuck as you ride from the slight sideward force you put on the trigger
Oh interesting, I didn't know that. Another reason to set up the throttle correctly!
is that you riding in the video (mountain bike)
Can you see well out of the side mirror some people say that you forearm can block some of the view. Very informative video by the way Thanks 👍🏻
Can you put a mini motors controller on any scooter
Unfortunately not, they only come on a few models, Dualtron (of course) and Kaabo Wolf Warrior. They are more responsive and have lower lag than the other (unbranded) one.
They should always make it an option for a full twist not half not just others that’s fine too but full twist allows me to handle and hold the grips fully like I want to. I just like full twist not that any other is bad or anything.
So my question is how to angle the throttle and still access the brake effectively. I just got my scooter yesterday, and that was my challenge.
More than thumb vs trigger, is sine wave vs square wave.
I've grabbed my trigger by mistake once, braking hard, I'm willing to try thumb throttle.
How hard would it be to mod a scooter for a left-hand throttle?
Was thinking about getting a m365 pro and doing the monorim v2 front suspension mod.. now I’m thinking mantis exactly like yours haha. Is it a much better choice? Plan is to use it for a 12 mile commute. Your suggestion?? :)
Thank you
What I like about thumb throttles is you can have a bigger display right in front of you.
I either want a thumb throttle or a throttle similar to rions, where you spin like a dial of sorts
i don't really like the trigger throttle :(
I hope I can change out the thumb trigger for a finger one on my hover1 m365 clone
How do you change you kmp to mph
I have a Zero 8 with a finger-throttle in horisontal position. And auto-pilot om top of that. Still though - I would prefer a thumb-throttle. This throttle really is inherently better. Most people have the acceleration-option on max. Therefore they want to have better acceleration-control with a finger-throttle. Change to slower acceleration, and enjoy better ergonomic comfort with the thumb-throttle. At least let the buyer choose for himself with type of throttle he wants - also on high-end scooters.
I suppose seeing the screen might be determined by now ones height?
trigger control r better BUT i love my oxo so much... what can i do..?
I just installed my thumb throttle, but mine shows KPH not MPH and I can’t find a way to change it
In the settings menu, press and hold both buttons at the same time. But you have to know which setting to adjust...
Can you use wd40 on a squeaky thumb throttle?
