The Now: Bryce Young

- Just down the road from a righthand point in the tiny fishing village of Angourie, Australia, Bryce Young had everything he needed to become a great surfer-not the least of which was one of the greatest surfers of all time living under the same roof. "I just call him Dad," says Young of his father, Australian surf legend Nat Young. "He put me on the front of his board when I was about 4 years old and then handed me my own when I was about 5-a sick '80s thruster that was fluorescent orange, green, and yellow." Since then, Young has spent his life riding surfboards both modern and anachronistic, fine-tuning a style to suit them all.

learning to skate from your mom. how cool is that.
back here for the 100th time i think.. such clean style. great departure from air reverses.
What a cool humble dude. Rips like crayyzy
We used to joke about surfing on anything, including an ironing board. This guy's doing it.
Wonderful surfing!!!
such a good style, soo laid back
Just good?? That IS crazy 😮😅
A soul surfer, good for you Bryce, I have never liked or wanted to understand contest surfing, its about self expression between you and the wave, no one else has to get it
Stoked on your style dude.... U know skating is fucking rad too, u rip hard, smoothe style. My bro worked with your dad like 30 years ago in Australia. Told me he found a job with some famous old school surfer named Nat young, I was like ,,, dude that guy is such a ledge u don't even know.... Said he was super super cool and laid back. You got his talent but maybe even a bit more.... Peace man. Your 5'ohs are sick and your floates on the single fin are dynamic
Definition of having fun and enjoying life
Wow awesome vibe, incredibly sick and fast style, and sick skater too!
Wow from the mountains.
Que estilo lindo, flutuando de bi-quilha !!!
so cool!
it is all related like he said. its crazy the inter woven relationship between surfing and skating, snowboarding too. he rides a fish. the first twin fin fish had wood fins from skateboard deck scraps.
This is a good one
awsome
So stylish!!
It's super cool
Looks like Ventura Point.. My place to be.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, son of the legendary Nat Young.

some of the best style comes from surfers who impeccably skate transition
Ripping on the twinzer at rincon.
How many times is RUclips going to recommend this video?!?

has anyone an idea of the dim of the orange fish?
No way - that was encinitas skate park that my home - I did t know he lived here
The coolest thing about the finless wood board is that you can mend a hole in your fence after surfing.
FKN SHREDDING BRUZ.
wowww breaking all rules
Beautiful riding! if you want to hit some winter or summer Humboldt CA.waves I'd love to have you try my shapes, I am second gen sharper, my dad started OP with Mike Doyle riding. also check out the Huntington surf sculpture (aka Nude Dude ) he sculpted in 1972, I am saying this to let you know my heritage and passion, I would enjoy a surf if you able.
Ed Schumpert sculpted the Duke in HB, but was he one of the guys who started OP?
yes he did that too, OP was all his work he had an investor, I think it was Fred Hemming s, I'll have to ask him, a really cool thing happened to me a few years ago, a friend of mine gave me a 7'6" #95 signed by my dad that he bought in Oregon 30 years ago, I'm pretty stoked!
The Wikipedia entry agrees with my memory:
"Ocean Pacific was started by John Smith in the 1960s as a surfboard brand. Smith designed the original trademark and label for his surfboards which he sold out of his shop North County Ding Repair. Later, Fred Ryan purchased North County Ding Repair from John Smith along with the Ocean Pacific surfboard label. The Ocean Pacific label was later sold to Don Hansen of Hansen Surf Shop. In 1972, Jim Jenks of San Diego wanted to create clothing that met the demands of surfers in and out of the surf. He received the name from his then employer Don Hansen and the Ocean Pacific apparel line was created. Jenks' idea for clothing under the Ocean Pacific label quickly became popular with the surf culture with its instantly recognizable 'OP' logo."
Ed Shumpert shaped boards for Barry Church at Pacific Design Surfboards.
ok right Fred Ryan not Fred Hemming, according to my father John Smith was his glassier, all I can remember was seeing my dad shape board and my cousins telling my how he took them out surfing.and this Fred Ryan sold the company since he was a business man and my dad was unaware of business. so how is it you remember this? oh and just a point the board I have has a Wave Set fin box 1968 -1969
I was there. I knew Ed Shumpert when he lived in Cardiff. He had a late '40s Plymouth coupe. If you're his son, I knew you as a toddler. Ed shaped for Pacific Design. I think you're confusing that with Ocean Pacific.
done...
Proper tuck knee
'so fishie"
This dude reminds me of Rob Machado. Imho, the style of this dude, along with Machado, and Ryan Burch beats that of todays repetetive conventional style; Ripping a wave and ending with an air.
This was also filmed in Encinitas home of? Rob Machado
Sooo fast
Do people call him Beau to?
Ripper
😀
Cool he hasnt got his Dads attitude
Dirk Digla what's wrong with pops, heard he was mellow, am I wrong?
No you are@@williamhanley7031 No NOT wrong at all . Nat YOUNG just did not like all the LIMELIGHT BS the media wanted to thrust upon him .
