- My mom has always wanted to visit the Christmas Markets in Europe, and with a little help from Viking River Cruises, I made her dream come true. Our 8 day journey started in the stunning city of Budapest, then to Vienna and through the dreamy Wachau Valley, and ending in Nuremburg Germany. Along the way, we visited beautiful medieval towns and of course, spent countless hours shopping at the super cozy Christmas markets. This trip was like a real life fairy tale. * I also got some rad Lederhosen

Ryan, you did not sound cheesy at all. I lost my mom this year and this will be my first Christmas without her. Even though we did not do a trip like this, we did some other trips and enjoyed every bit of it.

Like you did, I decided to take my dad on a surprise trip this Christmas and cheer him up in this difficult time for all of us…heading to Spain now!!!

What a sweet caring and sensitive person you are to surprise your mom like that with a very special trip just for her. I would love to do that for my mom since I'm the baby in the family and been spoiled growing up but as I've gotten older I just haven't found time to do something special for my mom. I really appreciated everything she has done for us 6 kids growing up. I'm 43 and my mom is 63 ( she just turned 63 December 9th) and something like that would be a surprise to her. I was just like you growing up, we didn't have much money growing up and had to make sacrifices. Sometimes we had to go without shoes in the summer time but in the Winter time we got a brand new pair. We had to eat Ramen noodles and our steak was a piece of bread with A1 steak sauce on it. My mom always made sure we had a bountiful Christmas.We didn't get a lot of pressents at Christmas but we got what we needed the most. Your mom was really shocked by that trip and was really enjoying herself. She has a very special son and I'm sure she's very proud of you for treating her to something special like that. Love your mum because one day you wake up and she’s not there anymore! I think about her everyday! We travelled around the world and I have lovely memories but I miss her so much ❤

What a great gift & tribute to your Mom Ryan. It made me smile & tear up. My Mom passed away on Mothers Day last year at 83, but she was a lot like your Mom the way she held our family together for my brothers & sister. So full of life. So fun and positive. I am so so grateful for all the things we did together and the experiences we had. Cause thats what its all about man. The love & experiences.

This is beautiful Ryan...I took my ma and pa on a trip in 2015, and now that I lost pa this year I still have those wonderful memories of how I got to pay something back to the 2 beautiful people who gave me LIFE!

Thank you Ryan, that's a lovely Christmas tale. 15 years ago my bro & I did the same for our mum's 60th birthday. She got 48 hours notice - warm weather, beachwear recommended. After 15 hours & 2 flights, we were reunited on Karon Beach, Thailand. That was when Phuket Island was mostly an unspoiled jewel. We had the most awesome family time ever. We've got to do it again!
I hope someday I can do this for my mother, I haven’t shown her how much I appreciated her for all she sacrificed for me and my brothers it certainly wasn’t easy. Thank you for getting me thinking about her and what I’m going to give her this Xmas.

We've always laugh together a lot and I can see both you and your lovely mum like to have fun too. What a great thing.

I cycled the Danube this Spring (Nantes, France to Budapest, Hungary) and my fiance and son flew out and met me in Vienna and we cycled to Budapest together. So I know what it is like to share this part of the world with those you love. It was a great time and I remember seeing those Viking ships along the way. You have an awesome Christmas too with your family!! See you in the New Year. BTW: Planning cycling Cuba next year and you are to blame for that one. LOL

Ryan did you notice the guy behind your mom? He is the Christmas Demon the Krampus ,he goes with Santa to punish all the kids at Christmas time for being bad,not a good scene my friend.The krampus is very popular in Europe and have festivals with the krampus it`s very scary,thought i`d bring this to your attention,have a great time .

What a fantastic video! I was watching very carefully as your posting date was right after we got back from the same cruise. Im pretty sure after your video of the snow in Budapest you must have been on a sailing right after us. I cant remember if we were on the Var or the Tor as our ship was switched on us before leaving. We left the day after Thanksgiving. Great video, fantastic gift for your mom, and glad she loved it.

I’m in a similar situation this season with my parents. They are getting a 5 trip to Washington DC for the spring with trains on either end and I’m am super excited for them. I hope they enjoy as much as you and your mom enjoyed Europe.
