  • It's a list today, guys. I have 7 single malt scotch whiskies that have slightly less common age statements. We're all familiar with the 15s and the 18s out there, but how about the inbetweeners? Cheers!

    Longmorn 16. Maybe overpriced, but oh so nice. Discontinued, so I stocked up on two replacement bottles I could find so that I can enjoy it for many many months to come. The only one I've had on your list is the Craigellachie 17. Fabulous stuff, but I'll have to be content with the 13 as it is pretty near as good and it's 1/3 the price of the 17 where I am. Cheers!

    • @jamescostigan3721
      @jamescostigan3721 3 месяца назад

      @@torbjornkarlsen I paid $160 USD for the Longmorn 16. Fortunately, I had some Rewards points saved up from work that I converted to Total Wine gift cards to help defray the cost, otherwise I probably couldn't justify that many bottles out-of-pocket. I've never seen Longmorn 18, but my understanding is that it is exhorbitantly priced (well north of $200), so I may never get my hands on it. But I've heard very good things about it. I'll just stick to the much more affordable Speyburn 18, which is a lovely dram itself. Cheers!

      @@torbjornkarlsen Perhaps it is time for me to move to Norway.😊 Total Wine is a large chain in the US. Sometimes their prices are decent, sometimes they are outrageous. I think it is a case of the latter with this one. I wish I could have found it at an independent retailer, I'd expect it would be cheaper, but Total Wine was the only place I could find it. Kilkerran 16 is excellent.And I'd love to complain about not including the Kilchoman 16, but it was so expensive, and I haven't actually tried it yet. I did lol at :57 because I guess that's my maturity level, and at the quote marks around the j word. The Glenmorangie replacing the Nectar D'Or was something I was unaware of, so very curious to try that now (and see the upcoming review). And I applaud continuing to celebrate Lagavulin 16. Diageo deserves its flak for its reasons, but the haterade on actually great whisky, low ABV and all, is probably unfair. Still have not tried the Craigellechie 17, though I have a new bottle of 13 in my cabinet. As for Laphroaig 16, my understanding is that it was a limited release, and I'll probably never see it again, but if that wasn't one of the best bottles of whisky I got in recent years...
    Anyway, excellent thought-provoking list, Geoff. Keep up the good work.

      @@Gwhisky it’s a distant memory, but there once was a Laphroaig 15 core release that I recall being excellent, and probably why that 16 was so appealing to me. Laphroaig really has a void nowadays, in my opinion, in a more mature core range offering between the punchy 10, other younger offerings, and the extremely pricy 25 year old limited releases. Something in the 15-18 year range would be great. I guess the closest thing we have is the Lore, but that’s not QUITE the same.

    From what I can see online, it seems the nectar d'or was also 16 YO.

      @@GwhiskyNo, I think I misspoke based on a quick look. I found this more reliable info: *Until 2011, Nectar D'Ör was released on the market without an age rating, then as 12 years old, finally, in 2019, the company slightly changed the label and waived the age restriction.* Not sure where I got the 16 YO idea - apologies!

    Those are some interesting choices I can put on my list. Thanks for including all the bottles for a screen shot.

    Mortlach 16 is an excellent pour, had some non scotch drinkers who loved it even.

    Arran 17 could have easily been leading this list, you probably haven't tried it yet :)

    Honorable mention must go to the sadly departed Old Pulteney 17.

      OP 17 and Longmorn 16 would be at the front of this list if they were still around. RIP! 🥃

    Although expensive, the Arran 17 is worth a shout if you can get it.

    I can't properly enjoy any whiskey over 10 (there's a 12 here and there that's an exception) but for me, the flavor becomes barrel/climate influence and the spirit slowly dies. Oh, and they charge you more so that a part of your brain subconsciously makes you more appreciative of it lol If you enjoy peated whiskey, age KILLS peat influences. Ardbeg 30? Lmao they made bank on you SON! 😮 *Also as the climate heats up.... whiskey doesn't need as many years to interact with the cask lmfao

    Lovely video Goeff 👌 Under 18 you says 🤔 is it legal? 😎 sweet 16 what the Men love, if you know what i mean 🫢😉. Really GR8 bottles, im glad i have/had most of them 😁. Beautiful is not the word you normally use to describe Laphroaig but according to 16yo suits perfect. Craiga17yo its a clear winner but last year's Kilkerran 16 is a beauty just give it some air and time in a glass, bottle as well. Cheers 🥂🥂🥂🙋‍♂️
