"Despite this recent revelation that you drank beer in college..." is one of my favorite lines from the show.
The note said “Because I could die”
Never start a sentence with a conjunction! James Bond taught me that.
@@Mackinstyle ATF Agent in beavis and butthead had a better thing. Never end a sentence with a preposition
I thought it said, "We still need you."
It said “I am alone tonight...."
Let Bartlett be Bartlett.
In my opinion this was the best moment between Jed Bartlett and John Hoynes in the entire series.
Why can't we have Jed Barlett for prez in 2024?
We don't deserve him.
330 million people in America and look what we've got to select from; too old or too evil.
Wouldn't Superman be a better choice ?
Ngl even knowing he had MS I would have voted for him
Because he is too smart. Today’s electorate wouldn’t vote for him and the media wouldn’t give him the time of day.
The same reason we cannot have Richard Nixon. Well, not the same but you get the point.
Lots of beer in animal house
"Toga! Toga! Toga!"
lol.......we watched Animal House 4 times one night and drinking all night .....back in the day i always liked another film he was in UP the Creek....happy days
I’m not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America!
@@belvert1 Or take liberties with some of your women...we did.
They've come a long way, from "You shouldn't've made me beg" to "Because I could die."
I never understood why they had to destroy this character (VP Hoynes). He seemed like an honorable and smart man. I was very disappointed at how they ended his story.
I had a think about this and my conclusion is that i agree, when I see him I always think 'oh yeah I forgot about the vice president'
Once Aaron Sorkin left early in the fourth season, the writing and characters changed. It went more towards typical tv drama moments. The Will Bailey character was all over the place. They had no idea what to do with him. But Toby’s ending was the worst.
@@danhiatt150 sorry but Sorkin left at the end of the 4th season.
@@MortenGallagher I stand corrected. But the point is there was a definite shift in the writing and character development after Sorkin left. Still good, but different and they did mess up several characters like I mentioned above.
Sorkin actually wrote the VP's resignation and he needed to to fulfill his season 4 cliffhanger goal: He wanted a Republican to take over when the President stepped away as his daughter was kidnapped. He needed there to be no VP at that point because a Republican speaker's taking over was a far better story line.
The Season Four finale should've had Hoynes take over during Zoe's kidnapping, it would've paid off four years of storytelling. 'Life on Mars' was a great episode but they should've just used a Cabinet Secretary instead. Would've made the Democratic primary during Seasons 6 & 7 more impactful too
Agree Hoynes appeared to be built up just to sort of go nowhere.
Interestingly, Sorkin said the whole reason he had to get Hoynes 'out of the way' is because he wanted to do the Republican speaker takes over storyline. I imagine if he wanted to keep Hoynes, this episode wouldn't have taken place at all.
Could have been Walken taking over during a bad MS episode.
Hoynes already took over as interim President during the cold open of season 2's first episode, so that charge has already been fired.
@@LabradorIndependent Yes, but doing that is a legitimate technique: the misdirect. But, you sure better stick the landing of the replacement character.
I got your back with a $1,200 dvd player.
These were the moments I lived for week to week when The West Wing was President of my TV World back in the day! Cheers To The West Wing Gang! 👋

The *GREATEST* show in the _History_ of television.
Absolutely!
The Wire.
Sopranos, NYPD Blue, Breaking Bad enter the chat.
James Bond orders his martinis Shaken, Not Stirred because he is a secret agent on duty. He specifically WANTS his drinks watered down.
and disguise it by being snooty about it.
I think that was the best meeting Hoynes ever had with Bartlet.
This was and still is one hell of a show, they sure don't make them like they use to right. Thanks
The woman Charlie is dialing for the President is Donna’s English teacher
The AI bot posting these has no sense of what to include or what is relevant or how to make the clips make any sense at all.
@@chuckdecker3765 get off the sauce you weirdo.
You guys left the best part out!
What's the best part?
@@luisguillermojg Barlett calling the plurality of voters who chose him suckers
No no, it's when Charlie gets that woman on the phone to speak with Donna!!!
Oh my God that's one of the best scenes EVER!!!!
Here's the scene with Donna I was talking about ruclips.net/video/InJ23OG7sn8/видео.htmlsi=ykG7rj8eFFwCPAtK
Every clip this channel posts cuts the best part out. I don't know why they are butchering the show like this. Someone needs to put a stop to them
Without hesitation Jed Barlett was Charlie's surrogate dad.
The actor who played Hoynes was in animal house, right? Is that reference to liking beer in college also a cheeky wink to animal house?
I'm really hoping the next video about Mrs. Morello
Leo is not afraid of a difficult conversation
Who would pay big money to watch Bartlett debate Trump?
It was a great scene.
Such a great show. As a conservative never much agreed with their politics but the writing was so crisp.
No, you're crying.
Thanks.
*WHAT DID THE NOTE SAY?!?!?*
"Because I could die"
Because I could die
My cucumber is bigger
"Meet me out back"
I never understood why Bartlett disliked Hoynes
He really was somethun', but never, ever cut Molly Morello.
Did he write it cause the oval office is always recording conversations?
As a European I feel the key point of this scene is glossed over - that Charlie is criminally underpaid for his skills and his time. He should be in a union.
$35k a year in 2002 money is about $64k today, which is nearly $20k above the US average personal income of 48k.
Not saying that Charlie doesn’t deserve all the money ever, but given that his job amounts to being the President’s butler I think an income that places him firmly in the middle class is fine.
Unions don't and can't exist as a federal employee.
@@keithduvall812Are you serious? Plenty of Federal employees are in unions.
I sure hope the folks who run this channel figure out how to actually clip things. Charlie’s tax return bit is hilarious despite the fact only the tail part was shown. And the part with John could have and should have been an entirely separate clip. Maybe take a video editing class.
This channel is terrible. Someone needs to fix how bad they are botching these clips.
“Would it have killed you to go to Banana Republic?”
The whole story of Charlie's tax return is funny and very sweet in the end. This was not a great clip posted here. They missed the whole thing of Jed and Leo jokingly asking for Charlie to immediately pay the taxes he owed.
What money?
I don't understand why Bartlet gets so snooty about Bond's weak martini. He's a secret agent! He needs to keep a clear head!
Hoynes was a good guy before Sorkin left then they fucked his character up along with others. Shame.

Ummmm. In July, 2024, REALITY is a greater story than TWW ever was.
No. Reality is almost never a greater story than fiction, that's the point of fiction. In our case it's merely a more insane story.
@@aaronleverton4221
@@SeattlePioneer The fact that a plurality of people lived through four years of Trump and want to voluntarily do it again is insane.
Insane? Really? You think half the voters in the country are INSANE?
The Republican Party just completed the process of again nominating Trump as it's candidate for President.
Compare that to the process of nominating Biden to again be the nominee of the Democratic Party, with Biden having received 14 million votes in the primaries.
How would you characterize THAT?
You seem a little unsteady yourself ---and so does the Democratic Party, or at least it's leadership.
First.
Also, thank you for these.
You're so far behind in the comment race, you think you're winning. I was first 15 minutes before you, I rounded you on the track.
But RUclips deleted my comment thus, making you the nominal winner.
A list of the most pointless and useless comments on RUclips includes "First", "Who is listening in [insert random recent year here]? and the lie "I am [insert youthful age here] years old and I love this old music/hate modern/current music".
