    Friendly reminder: seeing the camera crews reflection in the window isnt a continuity error. Its a movie within a movie. Benedict has realized hes in a movie which is why hes talking directly into the camera and why there was no need to avoid the reflection in the window.
    I always like this movie. So self-aware and imaginative, one of the best parody films ever. Doesnt get enough credit and neither does Arnie for his self-deprecating humour.

For me this film serves are a wonderful time capsule, heartily encompassing everything that was great about action cinema and iconography in the 80's-90's

    The fun thing is that even with his awareness of being in a movie, Benedict just holds a monologue hamming it up for a camera and he *doesn't know where it is*. He just naturally assumes that if this were a movie, the camera would be on him, and he is absolutely correct.

    • @rubix4195
      @rubix4195 Год назад +9

      Exactly, Benedict never meets Charles Dance but Charles Dance, like Dalton, was a Shakespeare stage actor so knows that, on stage, the focus is on him. (Macbeth, Othello, King Lear - its the monologue that actors love doing!) It's strange because in contrast Slater/Arnie Shakespeare setup in the film where he goes "To be or not to be...Not to be" they go with an explosion which I always thought that Hollywood would rather blow something up then let an actor use their skills to keep the audience - something the theatre would do!

    • @emilianoranzani6049
      @emilianoranzani6049 5 лет назад +4

      I don't think it is intentional - I believe it is a blooper that coincidentally has some connection with what he is saying. It is not uncommon for movies made prior to the early 00s to have the camera crew reflected in mirrors. These days, they'd just erase them in post. Back then, they didn't have the technology to do so. Also, I think it was less noticeable in the movie's previous editions (and, possibly, even in the actual film prints they screened in theatres), as this clip is taken from the new digital master they used for the BluRay and the image is brighter and with more detail.

Check the IMDB: there are other instances when this or similar goofs happen (both in the "fictional" and "real" world). This is merely a coincidence. Also, as I've already said, this new transfer makes it more readable because it's a high-definition, flat-scan from the negative with a different amount of detail, contrast and brightness. In previous editions, it was harder to see because those dark glasses you glimpse the crew in were darker. Finally, everything it in that shot but Charles Dance is out of focus and they very quickly cut to the next shot. A bit too subtle for something that is intentional.

    Hmm as soon as he breaks the 4th wall you can spot the camera crew in the glass (0:52).
    Normally that would be a filming mistake that happened to slip past the director/editor. However within the context of this scene and the movie as a whole, I do wonder whether it was intentional.

    this is lowkey a great movie. it is remembered as the movie that opened just after Jurassic Park and (rightfully) got smoked, but outside of THAT, it's a great, self aware action spoof comedy. it's actually funny if you let the jokes land properly instead of thinking of them as corny/safe. i almost wish they could make another similar movie, only with Arnie in a Conan-style role instead of the Jack Slater/indestructible cop archetype, lol. maybe they needed to go one more step and make it Rated R, with a just slightly older kid (17/18) instead of a 13/14 year old...
