I'd like to imagine that somewhere there's a rip-off of the "Abandoned by Disney" creepypasta named "Abandoned by Valve". Except instead of a crappy attempt at horror, it's a sad story of someone finding a poor lonesome Hoovy as the last and sole inhabitant of a rotting and crumbling 2Fort.

I'm the opposite. I played TF2 *to death* at the beginning. Didn't catch it on release, but shortly after the first update. I stayed on board, playing it obsessively, only stopping when it became clear that hats and alternate weapons were the future of the game. Then I jumped ship. When I did, I don't think any class had more than 1 or 2 alternate weapons for each weapon type. I absolutely loved that elegance and simplicity, and felt sad the game was on the path to lose it - as it did.
Now I'm super interested in getting back to TF2, but it's absolutely overwhelming. If you see someone running around with stock weapons and no hats, it's probably me.

Also most stock weapons are still considered the go-to, so don't feel pressured by the "new" flashy weapons
Alternatively, get Team Fortress 2 Classic, a great fan mod that adds a few additional weapons, the 9th class (Civilian from TFC, who was planned but removed in favour of the payload in payload maps, and even GRN and YLW teams) but keeps out the fluff. Problem is that it's just not as alive as TF2.

It truly does not feel like 10 years have gone by, and the fact that seven of those years has been dry of major update content is such an insane thought. In just the 3 years I played before jungle inferno it felt like an entirely different game, with all the major updates and NEW WEAPONS. It’s also completely disheartening to think about all the new players that have never experienced the absolute joy it is to mess around with the new content. I feel for y’all truly.

TF2 is currently getting nutrition supplements, with the ocational candy. with a bug fixes, unusuals, maps, etc.
But nutrision supplements, are NOT as good as normal food.
In the past, tf2 has had some very good meals. such as jumgle inferno, love and war, etc.
they had everything the suppluments had, but they tasted good.

few things i wanted to say watching this
1 relate so much to your story of your childhood
for my 18th birthday i held a lan party with every computer and laptop i could scrape together, just to play tf2 with all my friends and family
whilst im cautious, but i do feel that the quality of the tf2 updates has been slowly improving, for a long while tf2's updates were just garbage hats, and maps (wutville) theyve slowly become less garbage hats, less garbage maps, theyve added important things like moving the code base over to 64bit, adding VScript, adding 100 player limit options, adding community fixes section to the workshop these changes still pale to the incredible updates of old, and i still yearn for the day that the ambassador gets reverted to its pre-jungle inferno status after its wrongful nerf in Jungle inferno, but it does feel like whoever is working on TF2 is slowly getting better / more efficient, or managing to rope in more help, or whatever have you in getting TF2 updates to just be a little bit better
lastly, i know your friend from valve said that 20ish people are working on TF2, but that could mean a lot of different things,
and before i continue, i dont want to make it sound like any one persons job is less important than another
do the people making the Comic count? because that's at least a writer or two, an artist or 3, and never mind proof reading, checking for errors with the drawings
dont get me wrong, the TF Comic would be amazing to see, but its not going to change the game
even if they are actually working on the game, there is a big difference between someone who works on importing models / textures from the workshop for hats, someone who helps beta test maps to see how well they play, someone who manually bans players who cheat, or grief someone who works on the technical stuff, like adding in Vscript, 100 player limit, 64bit update, getting a community fix section working on the workshop
dont get me wrong, all of these jobs are important in different ways, but ultimately, realistically, none of these 20 people are working on actually making another major update to the game
and whilst ill always be hopeful, it does leave me sad at the raw potential tf2 will never see because of it
as a huge fan of TF2, ive written up a ton of changes id love to see added to the game, docs.google.com/document/d/1O3eW-Vh6mV4roi3J55nJw48B0zGkxW7M3RekIevgcQA/edit
think about all the cool stuff that could exist
fun new weapons like giving scout a BHop Scattergun, heavy a sandvich minigun replacement and demoman a market gardener,
balancing weapons like the ambassador to feel fun and useful, making the sandman guilotine combo, fun, but fair
adding in female versions of the TF2 mercs
giving tf2 a pseudo story that also works as a built in tutorial for new players
never mind countless fixes to old default settings, mvm issues, in-game competitive issues
one day i hope valve capitalizes on the games potential, its so amazing already, it would be truly magical if the game was able to grow into what it could be

Based optimist god. To be honest, I feel like part of why TF2 stopped getting major updates is that Overwatch took it's place (not helped by the abysmal Meet your Match update)... but then given how that turned out in the long term, I feel like there might be cause for bigger updates. I'm hoping that, at the very least, we get new weapons eventually

  • @TromboneGamer
    @TromboneGamer 3 месяца назад +1

Here's the thing about TF2. TF2, as a game, is just not mainstream in the way it used to be and it's old. Is it popular? Sure, to some degree, but like you said. most of Valve wants to work on new projects. Maybe Jungle Inferno could've been a bigger update, but even if it was, I doubt the game would have caught fire the way it needed to garner attention like Counter-Strike does. There are just too many factors holding the game back from evolving the way we hope it would. But at least the game is playable again and that's something to be celebrated.

Valve has clearly moved on, and I think it's a little silly to expect anything more than what they're doint now. In some ways it's actually incredible Eric and Joshie are shipping bug fixes. I agree that some things about the updates are subpar, especially the cosmetic additions. Ultimately the way TF2 has been handled since the blue moom update was sad but all things end eventually. People ought not complain too much as long as they actually continue to keep bot hosters from making the game playable. I will also say this, to anyone that watched this video, take all of this with a grain of salt and expect nothing.
