Steph dayosteph I haven’t seen anyone socially since March as well! I do go to the grocery store every few weeks and see strangers then, but it’s a lonely feeling. I DO have two crazy toddlers to keep me busy at home. Luckily, we live in an area with lots of woods and nature around us, so I have felt very fortunate about that. I'm so glad this is another *family affair.* With the state of families today, including the aristocracy who once owned these old places, it's a delight to see family members working together, loving and tolerating each other, b/c who else do we have without loved ones? The bomb crater was also fascinating. I wonder if British war records have any info on the pilot? Thankyou for the lovely vlog.
Michael , it is always nice to see a video of yours , a shame you can't get on with the cottage, hopefully it will get sorted out with ,go fund me, soon. I am a disabled old woman and I so so so enjoy your videos and when you are together with Stephanie from La Lande, it is so much fun to watch . You see, I will never get to France, so I am Seeing it through your eyes, your videos , your great story telling . Thank you so much for letting me come along on your great journey. Bless you .
Honestly, I feel like I’m going on a walk with a good friend. I can smell the field. I love it all. Makes me feel like a child exploring again. What a sense of excitement! You’re a wonderful man, well spoken, charismatic, funny and just delightful. Plus your ability to learn and adapt. And...you are well aware that there many ways to an end result, which you humbly direct. (Broad statement.) What else can one say? Keep on doing you!
I loved hearing the history of St William's stone. An incredible 7,000 year old monument. Thanks for taking us on a walk down the lane. Next time give the cows a handful of grass from me and if you want to be like St William maybe take a pocket of bird seed or some fruit for the birds (and any wild boars you encounter!) - they will soon get to know you.
I always laugh when Michael includes a shot of the baby’s plastic slide & kiddie pool because I can’t help but mentally picture them alongside the grandeur of the chateau. It’s really cute. Also, I think it would be so cool to see a video about all the animals that live on the grounds!

I’m sitting here on a Sunday finishing off a report for work. Over the years, there has been constant building of apartments all around me. Any small piece of green space is being swallowed up by concrete buildings. I look at your videos (and Stephanie’s) with all that vast green space, and I just want to say how lucky you are to live where you live, and to have a career being a creative. Thank you for your videos. I liked the history lesson today - it was very interesting 🌻
I understand about the development of any little parcel of land being swallowed up by crowded looking condos. The parking and this city has become too crowed over the years. I live in an LA suburb and thankful to have a backyard with all kinds of birds, sparrows, flycatchers, hawks(Copper's and several that stood in the birdbath just looking around) , jays, hummingbirds..even a pair of orioles trying to sip sugar water from their feeder. I'm lucky to have an orange tree. Birdbath too..hahaa. So I'm staying home all the time. Groceries brought in. And I am also in awe of all the "vast green space" in that part of France. That ancient stone was absolutely amazing to me. I listen to every word Michael says ; he's so knowledgeable about so many things I never even think about..he has opened up my mind to what is out there beyond my world/life. I was brought up Roman Catholic and am able to understand the church culture there. St. Joan was my idol growing up...she was the first rebel girl I knew of, fierce.
And my friend moved from Pacific Palisades , Ca to Pacific Grove up north in Monterey county, she said she felt like she just "swam out of LA and it felt good to wash up" ...

Thank you for another great video, Michael. Please know that you bring so much joy to the lives of those who follow you. I've started to see a very small number of negative comments here. They don't speak for us. I, along with my wife, donated to your go fund me page. We're so happy to help such a talented and hard working young man follow his dreams. Sorry the money hasn’t reached your bank account for the completion of the cottage. I can’t believe the progress you have made! You have basically rebuilt it! I really enjoyed the history of the stone and local legends. Your videos with the drone are stunning! The music choices are wonderful additions that make it look and sound like a professional documentary. You are a talented young man! I can’t wait for your next video. Best wishes from Delaware 🇺🇸
@Debra Folwell. So I noticed you’re from Delaware. So am I. ( Dover). And worked and lived in Rehoboth Beach till the Covid-19 hit us all. We don’t have anything like these French Chateau’s in our area, do we? What part of Delaware are you from?
Ok its official Ghost stories and Legends surrounding the area and chatuea need to be told. Please please please please I'd love to hear more 'ghost' stories 🥰
Michael, I’ve been looking forward to catching up with you, and you didn’t disappoint. Love your history lessons, drone footage, nature walks, music, and well just all of your beautiful life in France. The cottage looks strong now and I was amazed by the bomb crater and the impact from such a distance. Also how light it was for 10pm. The guest house looks lovely. I’m sure they are enjoying their stay. I know I would.
That's because they are near the northern hemisphere. And as the earth rotates at it's own axis the northern hemisphere gets more sunlight during the summer especially. They get sunrise as early as 3.30 am and sunset at around 11 pm.
You took the words right out of my mouth! Michael, is this your piano playing? You didn't mention the artist. I know that you are an accomplished musician.
The medtation you created while waiting for the wind to die down, was haunting. The views of the peaceful countryside set to music had a quality of looking back itno the past You captured a glimpse of a white rabbit, or some other white creature, crossing a clearing and slipping into the undergrowth.I wonder if the land itself holds memories of the sweep of thousands of yeaars of wars and armies marching and if the ghosts of the men and horses and villagers who died in the battles still haunt the fields and woods of France? And I wonder if that sinful wild Boar, ever repented and left the area? I tend to believe it did, because there is an account that Saint Francis rebuked the wild wolves for preying upon a village. Thank you, Michael for this very special vlog.
Thank you for letting me visit and stay awhile. I loved going outside of the grounds. It would be interesting to see the bomb crater. The music that you pair with your footage is like listening to a film score. Do you know how many people the Chateau employed when it was built? It would be interesting to see the former farm and stables of the Chateau if the owners would allow it. The garden must have been incredible. I enjoyed the story of the stone and the devlish ending.
Just to confirm, we will never get bored of anything to do with the gardeners cottage! We love the updates and its one of the main reasons I keep coming back to your channel :D Keep the updates coming mate. Also, I always watch the ads, hopefully this helps you out.
Your filmography, is simply stunning Michael.. I adore the way you flow seamlessly from vocal content to musically illustrated landscapes... simply beautiful... ❤️
The dads cottage should be Michael's its attached to Michael's very small bit of space! actually I mean really... He does so much an works so hard... on the estate an area!
MsL2595 Oh I’m not challenging anyone. I’m sure that’s exactly what was done. Michael has express in early vlog his dream of one day retiring the gardeners cottage. It’s so perfect for him.
@@crisbell484 Hydrangeas are beautiful, large-leafed flowers that come in a wide variety of colors such as vibrant blues, purples, pinks and whites. These flowers originated in the Japan, but do well in most parts of the world. The color of hydrangeas can be altered by adjusting the pH levels of the soil surrounding the hydrangeas. Anybody can change the color of hydrangeas and all it takes is a little effort to have your white hydrangeas looking their best. Test the pH level in the soil surrounding the hydrangea. The higher the level, the more acidic it is. Keep the pH level between 6.0 and 6.2. (From a gardeners site Cris)
This vlog was a triumph. I was so captivated by the story of Saint William. The aerial footage of the estate and the sunset footage was magnificent. So captivating Michael. I love your vlogs so very much. Thank you for making me forget my problems ❤
I honestly like the shots of the Chateau at dusk, you can see the orange light from the window and hear crickets. By the way I got chills when you tell the story about the murder
There is something so satisfying by watching old houses be saved and restored 😊 I tend to think of the house as a person, and when someone restores her she starts shining and stands up tall and proud 😍 I think you’re going to be so happy when you’ve moved in Michael 😃 The soul of your cottage shines through in your videos 🥰
Loved it!!!!! You’re an excellent story teller, Michael. Would love to see more of the old acreage around the chateau. Any opportunity to talk with the neighbors and get some history of the old farms and area?
Hi Michael. I have followed your journey from the start and has always been informative and fun. I've just come out of hospital after quite a large op and laid up in bed bit one of the very first things I did was to see what I had missed from your vlogs. And it has helped me to recover by take Mg my mind of the pain so just a big thank you and my wife and myself are planning to visit and stay in your wonderful holiday cottages.
Great to see the gardener's cottage is solid and (almost) weather-tight. That's a great landmark to reach in the restoration! Best of luck with the funding delays.
If you only knew how much I enjoy your videos, storytelling, and sharing! I know they take incredible amounts of time, but I would watch YOU, every day of the week! Thank you for what you do, and taking us along! We are indebted.. blessings of all that is good and prosperous on you! 🥰
Michael, you're videos of the land surrounding your Chateau are wonderful. With the music you've chosen to accompany them, they are so tranquil and relaxing, stress just falls away. Thank you so very much for a calming influence in this time of unstable reality.
The story was wonderful Michael but, I love the cows! Actually when the wind was blowing and you showed the surroundings I got so very peaceful and all my troubles went away. Thank you.
💓I don’t actually watch the adds I leave them playing whilst I make more tea & if I leave an add playing 1 add will be followed by a 2nd add & if we’re lucky a 3rd add pops up as well💓
That stone is amazing! Imagine it being used for stone tools! Michael is lucky to have it there, to see it and also it is protecting the surroundings from being built on.
What serendipity.... I very recently left a comment on Stephanie’s channel asking her if she comes across any standing stones/ ancient sights would she please vlog them.... shout out for the RUclips channel, The Prehistory Guys, if you like that sort of thing too. Congratulations Michael (and the whole family) you’re working incredibly hard and inspiring a lot of people 😘 Book recommendation ‘The Tale of the Axe’ by David Miles
Michael, thank you for the video. You filmed amazing footage of the Chateau. You have a great eye for detail. The Gardeners Cottage is coming along well. You and your family are living the dream. Hope you and your family are keeping safe and well.
Love your film. Your Dad is an interesting character. I'm learning alot from him. Don't worry if you cannot get cracking on your cottage faster - Chateaus are not built in a day. You can show us some more work that your Dad does. He is full of knowledge. I would like to know his background. Also I would like to know his thoughts about renovating the basement kitchen. Just an idea if you are scratching for content. I have moved a whole house 300 kms and it has taken 4 years. Money helps get things done faster but not always better. I wont get bored. Promise.
Why should anyone be privileged to help the rich by a go fund ! Really think they are taking the piss !! It was set up for people in need not for this sort of thing.
Michael: When the wind was blowing I could hear you fine! That was quite a story about Sir William charming the animals - when you were walking back to the shrine the cows were all running towards you, so some of Sir William was rubbing off on you! I loved seeing the countryside on your walk and the old farm buildings that belonged to the chateau. Perhaps you could get permission to film this area in one of your vlogs? I really find the history of the area so very fascinating! Thankyou for allowing us to share in your adventure in France! Cheers Sandy&Andy
Agree about more video of the surrounding area. And also agree, Cows are drawn to caring people. Just like dogs and cats. Growing up on a farm I witnessed our farm animals wanting to be near some people and avoiding others as much as possible. Michael is a good hearted man. The animals know it.
Michael , that was amazing ! Quite the storyteller, aren't you ? The music you chose to accompany the film is superb - well done ! Had my tea & was thoroughly entertained -- see you next week ..........
I love your "Doing it Ourselves" episodes so much, your explanations and excitement of living, and restoring a beautiful Chateau like yours. The dedication, $$, which it takes to make this happen. Plus, I think you are very cute and get so animated
Thanks for putting in so much time and effort into the video Micheal! The story and your adventures were enchanting, don't worry about posting a bit off schedule the quality is worth it!
I so enjoy the content of this channel;purely because, Micheal covers all the subject matter I’m interested in. Your doing a fantastic job and the rest of the family on restoring theses buildings in France. Thankyou Micheal .
I am from the US, and I would love living where you live, it’s so calming even with the rain. I know I will never be able to visit but I am so thankful to be able to watch your vlog. Thank you! God bless
Brilliant, I loved the story of the rock and to see The Falcon fly with such good arial shots of the country side around the chateau. Your journey to the rock was very cinematic and those cows loved it too! Can't believe how light it is at 10pm! Something you might consider adding to your tech arsenal is a gimbal for your phone...there are some small but effective ones available like a DGI Osmo 😁⭐
I thought I had watched all the videos and then this one came up. I cant wait to see your mum and dads apartment when they get closer to done . What a remarkable building to live in. Y'all are so blessed to live your life there in all that history and beauty Xx Teresa from Texas♡
Really enjoyed this episode. The Aerial drone footage really highlights the beauty of the landscape and your added music editing is spot on. Brilliant and thank you for sharing.
A telling tale and marvelously told. It is a cold, foggy night here in San Francisco and I am alone listening by candlelight. As the breathtaking aerials finish their decent, I find myself eagerly awaiting the story of the Stone. Perched on the edge of my chair, listening to every word, I await the outcome of the poor soul known as the hermit William Firmatus. Looking down at the sandstone in the darkness, one can only imagine the horror and thoughts of his final moments. A chilling tale on a chilly night ! ....................👻🕯 thank you, Michael
I love the long episodes, it’s so interesting and beautiful. The guest house is amazing and so clean, I’m sure your guests will love it! Regarding the copper bowl for egg whites, you don’t have to hold it, just roll up a slightly damp towel into a circle and place the bowl in the middle. You will be there quite awhile and may want to switch hands, works perfectly! I have a set of very old Bourgeat copper and stainless steel pots and pans and a set of their copper bowls, one of my prized possessions! Your Dad is so talented, he is amazing and could have his own RUclips channel, that would be nice, love seeing his work!
Thank you for the video, Michael. I knew it would be worth the extra time to wait. What an amazing difference in the work on the "Gardener's House" [?] I hope I got that right. Your Dad is amazing. He's just a fountain of knowledge on building practices. You are such a smart man to learn from him and all your friends. By-the-way, I love the copper pot that you got in the beginning of the video. Good luck and best wishes in all that you do.
I love watching and hearing your father's knowledge. I have a tradesman father as well and have worked on many projects with him. Such great memories and knowledge. ♡
So interesting to learn about St Guillaume and the stone, laughed when the cow mooed. You are so lucky to have a dad that can do anything, lovely to see inside his cottage, I love those sweet little windows downstairs. Bon dimanche.
Your dad is so like my dad. They both know how to get things done right and they get it done on their own! My father and I are currently restoring a historic home in Dayton Ohio.
So cinematic and lovely music. Great job on this one, Michael! I love learning more about the history around the Chateau, and how cool to live near such a historic item.
Please understand that I know your show is called Doing it Ourselves but me momentarily forgetting that fact before getting a notification on my phone from RUclips saying "The Murder of Saint William - Doing it Ourselves" made me laugh so much I cried. It's been a hard week for me but you unintentionally brought me a few minutes of great laughter.

I love it Patricia, Thank you for sharing that.
I didn't read it that way, but kind of wish I had. That's hilarious!
"If you want something done right..." said my husband when I read this to him.
Hydrangea colors change with the alkalinity and acidity of the soil. More pink is alkaline and blue is acidic.

That's so interesting. TY for that info.
To an extent. Also needs aluminum in the soil. Ph affects the plants ability to take up aluminum with is the primary factor in the colour shown.
Epsom Salts can help with the soil for the bloom color. ♥
Chad Cox does epsom salt make them turn blue?
What a blessing, Michael, to have a father who is so knowledgeable and a wealth of information when it comes to construction.
Most definitely
And he seems a real good example for his sons, both hard workers and go getters
oh i ADORE his dad! Old school contractor- just awesome sauce!

@Debra Folwell. So I noticed you’re from Delaware. So am I. ( Dover). And worked and lived in Rehoboth Beach till the Covid-19 hit us all. We don’t have anything like these French Chateau’s in our area, do we? What part of Delaware are you from?
You’re doing amazingly well for yourself. This really is one of the best RUclips channels. ⭐️⭐️🌹🌹👍🏻👍🏻
Your payment is welcome
Madmich Somewhere else, I hope that devil at the stone eat trolls like you as well 🤪
@@Michelle-wk4ek A bit of a bitter jealous soul are you? Sorry you have such a sour life you want to sour others.
Wendy Linsen I was thinking the same thing about the sun at 10 pm!!
And I wonder if that sinful wild Boar, ever repented
and left the area? I tend to believe it did, because there is an account that Saint Francis rebuked the wild wolves for preying upon a village. Thank you, Michael for this very special vlog.
I hope all who watches this wonderful channel, supports it by watching all the adverts.
Michael, you have a beautiful family.
You should buy the farm and rent it out. It would be nice to try to put the estate back together.
Want to pay for it then ? As they can’t

Did you know that the name 'cul-de-poule' comes from the bowl's resemblance to a hen's derriere!
Just to confirm, we will never get bored of anything to do with the gardeners cottage! We love the updates and its one of the main reasons I keep coming back to your channel :D Keep the updates coming mate. Also, I always watch the ads, hopefully this helps you out.
I always watch the ads. Hope you get your gofundme funds soon :-)
you could make a drone video every month all through the year to see the changes. would be lovely
Yay Michael is back!
When I worked at Castle Howard we used to sharpen our large carving knifes on a doorway which was made from sandstone but a lovely edge on them.
It was worth the wait for 43 minutes of content!!
I'm a florist and all those wild flowers along the lane are gorgeous,
Queen Anne's lace is a favourite of mine
Your filmography, is simply stunning Michael.. I adore the way you flow seamlessly from vocal content to musically illustrated landscapes... simply beautiful... ❤️
The grounds and surroundings are so peaceful. You Dads Cottage is really coming along.
The dads cottage should be Michael's its attached to Michael's very small bit of space! actually I mean really...
He does so much an works so hard... on the estate an area!
deanna young I believe Michael wanted the Gardner’s cottage. As he is such a fan of Beatrice potter. He doesn’t require more room then that.
@@annaibarra3447 aww that's Michael so true thank yu 👍💞
MsL2595 Oh I’m not challenging anyone. I’m sure that’s exactly what was done. Michael has express in early vlog his dream of one day retiring the gardeners cottage. It’s so perfect for him.
The cottage looks enchanting
Changing colors of hydrangeas is due to ph and mineral levels of the soil. You can make them change color by adding amendments
What can you do to keep them white?
I love it when michael takes walks, its always so fascinating to see the beautiful scenery
Graham, I hope you get well soon. Sending well wishes from Tasmania.

Thank you.
Getting better about another 5 weeks to go lol.
Thank you.
Wish i could give you a million likes, love your content and kind , light hearted way of living
I'm surprised it was never moved to a museum.
I actually thought the wind added to the ambiance when you started informing us about the rock
That. Was. Glorious!! You are a brilliant, intuitive visual storyteller. Bravo, darling! 👏🎉❤️
What serendipity.... I very recently left a comment on Stephanie’s channel asking her if she comes across any standing stones/ ancient sights would she please vlog them.... shout out for the RUclips channel, The Prehistory Guys, if you like that sort of thing too. Congratulations Michael (and the whole family) you’re working incredibly hard and inspiring a lot of people 😘
Book recommendation ‘The Tale of the Axe’ by David Miles
Promise.
Love everything about your videos, Michael.
The Hydrengea flowers change color according to how acidic or alkaline your soil is.
Regarding the go fund me funds, That's ridiculous they charge us as soon as we contribute to the gofundme. hope it gets sorted out soon.

Michael: When the wind was blowing I could hear you fine! That was quite a story about Sir William
charming the animals - when you were walking back to the shrine the cows were all running towards you,
so some of Sir William was rubbing off on you! I loved seeing the countryside on your walk and the old
farm buildings that belonged to the chateau. Perhaps you could get permission to film this area in one of
your vlogs? I really find the history of the area so very fascinating! Thankyou for allowing us to share in
your adventure in France! Cheers Sandy&Andy
Yes!!! Would love more tours of the area!!!
I thought the same thing about the cows! they love Michael ....too cute.
The scenery is gorgeous, the music, wonderful, I feel so good looking at these views, I pray your funds come in!!!
Thank you for the painter's eye view, the history and beautiful music!
I so enjoy the content of this channel;purely because, Micheal covers all the subject matter I’m interested in.
Your doing a fantastic job and the rest of the family on restoring theses buildings in France.
Thankyou Micheal .
Another great video, I just love your choices of music on your soundtracks xx
Really amazing place you live at... would be interesting to see the bomb crater also.
That was a very mischievous place to leave us Mr. Petherick
I loved how he did that. One of the things that makes Michael so endearing.
Can we take a minute, this man over here making movies 👏👏 XO
I thought I had watched all the videos and then this one came up. I cant wait to see your mum and dads apartment when they get closer to done . What a remarkable building to live in. Y'all are so blessed to live your life there in all that history and beauty

Tonight's story spooked me! I will sleep with one eye open...and dream of fevers and mauraders. Thanks for the chills from Vancouver Island Canada.
Thank you for thanking us all Michael .
Your music with sharing that land is beautiful. I love seeing the outdoors and the history. Well done.
35:34 I think the cows were hoping you had some treats for them! very peaceful
I love watching and hearing your father's knowledge. I have a tradesman father as well and have worked on many projects with him. Such great memories and knowledge. ♡
The estate in that 10pm light looks magical! Also love the atmospheric retelling of the story of the stone of Saint William😆
