1959 Tonka Fire Truck Restoration

- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- Purchased this vintage Tonka fire truck from eBay the first week of March 2020. It was covered in what appears to be laundry lint and surface rust. Overall, it was missing many parts and in decent shape other than that. I was super excited about this one. It's a perfect truck for restoration. The video was tough at times due to how bright the white powder coat reflected the camera lighting. Many details seemed to just blend in and so I found myself constantly working with the lighting to capture the fine details. Even so, there is multiple shots that I felt should have been a better quality.

Chip; I've watched other restoration videos, but NONE take the time to pay attention to detail as you do. Kudos!
Watching your videos 2nd time around. It's a shame I can't press the like button again.
Awesome job, great ending! You did a better job of rolling up the hose than I did. haha
Lol that dang hose had a ton of comments on your video. Haha Thank you!
It’s cool to see you tubers comments on the post
Lol haha
Love your show which led me to Chips. 👍🏽
@@ChipChannelRestorations I love seeing the old Tonka & Marx toys being restored. I played with Marx alot growing up, and then in my teens moved to just outside Mound, Minnesota, and knew a bunch of people at the Tonka factory! Thank you for this, I hope you (eventually) recoupe your investment, after having to restore it again from YOUR kids playing with them!
Fantastic restoration. You are so great with your eye for detail. I was thinking why is there a truck bed on fire. Then here comes the Fire truck to put the fire out. Amazing Ending.
I must say that I'm glad that these toys are in such good hands for safekeeping and restoration. I'm tempted to give it a shot, but at age 67 my restoration skills are zero. I would love to have a sandblasting booth and powder coat setup. Just need more space and $$$. LOL. 😎👍🏻
I still have mine and a lot of the other Tonka vehicles and yours are beautiful
It was a beautiful transformation from old to new
There's something so zen about these videos. I must have binged 100 of them over the last 48 hours (up in a second monitor while doing other things). After watching so many, YT will sneak in other videos and in my mind I'm like "Chip would have done that differently" "Nope, messed that up" "ohhh..forgot to do this part...etc etc" haha. I think I've become a junkie. Anyways, keep up the good work!
In red or white, this fire truck is a success, magnificent with these many details, from the top of the range !
Mmmmm, a mixer truck, motorhome, a flatbed tow truck, nice people for the next few!
Thank you again for letting us take advantage of it !
Thank you for watching! It means a lot to me!
Wow Szuper work 👏👍👍👍 Thenkyu from Hungary
You always make old toys good as new
Love the end scene. Lost for words. 🙏
When he connected that water hose and put out that fire I was cracking up 😂🤣😂
Chip your collection is awesome and yor kitty is awespme too
I have a 70s era version of the Tonka fire engine with the same hydrant play feature. Great job of restoring the truck! Excellent video!
I did too. It was a snorkel fire truck.
you did a great job restoring the fire truck.
So cool the firetruck doing its job.
I love the Tonka Junk Yard. Another AWESOME video and you are talented
do the camper next, love your videos, its cool to breathe new life into these old toys, they don't make them like they used to
You Really are a Great Craftsman !
Another great Tonka Toy saved from the scrap yard. It's a joy to watch your workmanship in restoring a forgotten toy back to life. Thank you for sharing. Thank you and above all stay safe.
Looks like one of my fire department’s old trucks from back in the day
It's amazing how many parts went into thus truck. Awesome job!!!
Thanks soo much for watching!
Outstanding job sir, when I was a kid in the 1950s I had the red Suburban Pumper Tonka fire truck, identical to this one only red in color. It was my pride & joy back in the day...
love your retoration projects of tonkas personaly i would put them in a glass cabinet of some kind to keep the dust away from them and still admire them
Great job!! I have several trucks that I am going to restore including fire trucks. I have a red one that I am going to do in white. I will have to send to my local powder coater. He does all my car stuff. Great ending, I love it!!!!
My husband and I enjoy your restorations and the little play at the beginning and end. Keep up the good work.
Thank you soo much for watching!
''Beautiful'', again. The only way to describe it !!!
Thank you soo much!
Your collection of restored trucks is dazzling.
Thank you soo much!
Awesome. Loved the working fire hose.
Bravo! I seen this exact truck done in red, but white is a bit more striking! It just seems to bring out the accents and equipment a bit more. You have a penchant for white and green trucks. Since I love colors, I will keep my eyes glued for more of you Chip!
Love. It. As. Always. Very. Sweet 👍👌. Love. All. The. Trucks. At. The. End. As. Well. Nice. Work. Brother. Lee
I think you do the best job ever restoring the old tones toys bring back memories
I like the goof-ups throughout the video.... it shows you are human
I love the part at the end as well as the junkyard
Beautiful restoration! Love watching. Your work is excellent! Thanks for sharing.
It's great to see isn't it. I love to guess which color he pics when re painting it. How about you? Dou have a best segment?
Magnifique restauration ! Et de plus ! Belle petite finale, sur une extinction de feu ! Parfait👏👏
I love watching you, but I preferred hearing you. Silence is so precious. Thank you.😊
i love the intro with the so called junk yard in the back yard. funny!
Thank you for watching!
top notch restoration. thanks for sharing with us
Got to love the wrecking yard!
Thank you!

I think it is adorable when the tow truck brings them in for repair.
I like the Happy Ending putting out the fire. You have the most interesting junkyard.
Thank you for watching!
Great video! If ever decide to restore my white '59 Tonka Fire Truck, I'll use your video as a guide. I believe this truck was sold in white for only one year: 1959.
That is correct, 1959 only. We have one that has been in the family since new, but badly abused by sisters children. Cab front is pushed in, and rust is beginning all around. Its right at that stage between nice patia, and rusty enough to demand restore, rather than preservation. Next few months will see the decision made, depending on how damaged the cab and bumper and grill end up being. No matter what, we will have to pull the cab to straighten the parts out. If dome of the rust haze does not clean off, it might end up pulled all apart and glass bead blasted for a repaint. It needs over $100 in missing parts too.
Just a absolute delight to watch this beautiful old fire engine come back to life again. I looks fantastic and the working demonstration was just fantastic.
These videos are such a delight to watch and I look forward to sharing them with my grandson. Thanks so much for this channel and your hard work, I
sure appreciate it. Take good care, be well and stay safe.
Incredible job man. The truck makes me think of the show emergency. The one from 1972
This takes me back to the time when I first; purchased the 1987 Mattel's 'Hot Wheels Color Racers,' right from the downtown Santa Cruz Longs drugs.
This pre-dates my era.
Remarkably in good condition to start, no accidents...
I'M new to your channel, but not new to the toy restoration videos. I''ll say this, you are top notch in your restorations . absolutely immaculate and spot on with accuracy and period correct accessories. i'll be watching from now on for more content keep them coming.
Beautiful Fire Truck.
Fantastic restoration 👍👍👍 The pickup fire at the end was well done and funny 👌👏😁
You outdid yourself on this restoration.!!! Really beautiful job, Chip. Thanks for sharing.
I love that you're taking the time and restore these old Tonka toys. When I was a kid my younger brother and I had the dump trucks, we had a small hill in our backyard and we would ride on them going down the hill. I didn't know that the fire engine did that. If that dump truck's bed go's up really slow, I had that one when I was 5 year's old (1967). Love the video's keep up the good work and stay safe.
That is awesome!
I would love to see a truck like that. Taken apart, cleaned and polished with new lights and everything fixed and reassembled. Keeping the patina on the body paintwork. I think it would look amazing.
I love watching you work! Thank you for your wonderful job!
For a 1959 toy, this was really in great shape.
17:57 *POP!* The Made in America precision quality never ceases to impress me.
It's pretty insane the quality of the toys back then. Thanks for watching!
Very good. Congratulations.
Thank you very much!
A family of restored Tonka toys slowly growing as they find, recover and care for their neglected brothers and sisters.
Bello trabajo, gran final
I had the older version of the fire truck back in the early '60's. I never got to use it with water. Nice seeing that it could actually work from the pressure-reducing fire plug.
Woooow!!
Que Hermoso quedó Tu Exelente Trabajo Amigo !
Saludos desde Monterrey Nuevo León, México... 🤠👍 🇲🇽
Thank you for restoring this one it looks like the one I had when I was a child.
Thank you for watching!!
I had a whole "garage" full of these metals trucks, earth movers, etc. Love to see them restored, because they are not made anymore.
Awesome informative Video experience Y'alls God Bless Ya Prayers 🙏
Give that old girl a reason to shine again
Wow, great job, your attention to detail and approach is far better than most of the other half-a__ attempts from others that just disassemble, paint and reassemble. I like that you use the right tools and the careful handling too, great entertainment to watch you work!!!
The opening scene sums up my childhood summers exactly! Kudos to you on bringing a classic First Responder back to glory. A job well done!
Thank you for watching my video!
Once again, very fine work. The replacement parts are....well, you understand. My restorations are from the 20s - 40s which compels me to fabricate pretty much everything. Best wishes and stay healthy.
Love that you are saving these classic toys. Try the retro brightening process using Hydrogen peroxide and UV light to clear the yellowing from the headlights and other yellowed with age parts. The powder coating process is so really rewarding to watch as is the sand blasting.
Love that Fire truck & especially the Q on the fender
It actually puts out fires! And NO white wall tires!
When you watch this being disassembled and see the number of parts, you understand why the originals cost so much more than a basic car.
I'm always amazed at the quality of these old toys. They truly don't make them like they used to any more.
Looks great all the little parts add so much to the finish product.
Thank you!
That was great! Fantastic ending.
P
Love those Tonka trucks, beautiful restore... 🚒
Thank you soo much!
Incredible! (as usual!!) the quality of your restorations is unbelievable, I don't think they were that nice when they were NEW! Your collection is very impressive. I really enjoy what you create.
Thank you for your support!
Great job from Algeria🚙🚐🚚🚚🚛🚜🏎️🚒🚑🚓🚕🚌🇩🇿
Says alot for Tonka as rusty they get the metal is flawless loved them as a kid wished I still had them
You do fantastic work.
Aside from seeing the flatbed getting a makeover would love to see the truck with the camper on the back of it get a good makeover as well
Now that looks fantastic perfect restoration again. I really like the white version much more than the common red one.
Thank you, I greatly appreciate the support!
Wish I had a salvage yard like yours. Very nice resto. Cool ending to a hot video.
Thank you!!
Me ha gustado mucho, gran final.
cannot imagine how i enjoy watching your videos much, love all them amazing and adorable restoration congratulations
Absolutely loved the ending. Great Restoration.
Great job. Thanks for sharing.
Felicidades por un buen trabajo bien hecho. Saludos.-
excellent work. what a beautiful collection of trucks
Thank you very much!
Restoration and hope is available each time you return to God.
Love your restorations! I never owned any Tonka trucks. I was eather too old for them or my parents couldn't afford them. So it goes! ...Newk from Kentucky
I had one of those white firetrucks back in the early 60s. It was my favorite and I especially liked the rubber hose on the spool.
Why White? I thought all firetrucks were red? 😎
@@skrue68 It was part of a set. A white rescue squad truck also.
Wow!! It really works!
Would like too see that flat bed and that pick up with the wood on it together that build will be epic...nice job....
Best one yet
I love your collection. Looking forward to the next one . ♥️👍
Que buen trabajo !! Muy minucioso !!!
Nicely done! I would never have forgiven you if that truck wasn't saved, lol.
Had to save this one! It's definitely alot more parts than most Tonka trucks and was a ton of fun to restore.
Very relaxing to watch, great job.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
Really cute with the demonstration. I felt like I was back in the late 1960's watching Gumby and Pokey animation. .
I think you're just a kid at heart. 😃
Great work!
