    I used my motorized bike as an everyday ride for light shopping, work, and just bumming around town. In about 3 months of riding time I racked up well over 1,000 miles with no problem at all.

      +Michael Holm my motor won't fit due to the fact that the carburetor and fuel tank are connected directly to the engine; it's a 5hp Briggs and Stratton. I can't move the fuel tank with the current carb, so I'm removing the entire fuel delivery system from where it meets the block. I'd suggest doing something like that; look for parts that can be moved elsewhere.

      Nice motor except I had my 4G transmission broke twice within the first 40 50 miles. Wish there was a better transmission out there for these motors at a more reasonable price. No way I would want to fork up an extra $350 to $400 for the EZM Qmatic which is the best transmission out there for these motors only they are for long shafts only so I would need an adapter for my tapered shaft if I ever got a Qmatic. Also the gearing on the Qmatic sucks because you'll need a 50 tooth or larger drive sprocket just to get the RPMs right which results in a much slower bike.

    Hi Ray, the engine is actually quite quiet. My fiancé and I tested it. She put hunting ear plugs in (32 decibels) and couldn't hear it while standing right next to it. I live in a very quiet neighborhood as well, so I know how you feel. The bike is so quiet that it really doesn't disturb anyone. I can listen to head phones and not even go up to the high volume levels to hear it. To answer your other question regarding the electric bikes; yes I have tried them. They are completely silent, however, I still prefer my motorized bike because the little bit of sound that does come from it helps me know how healthy the bike is. Electric bikes can break down and not give you warning signs before it happens. Motorized bikes sound awesome and really allow you to understand the health of the bike.

    I’d try to remedy that front spring issue with a bushing. That way it could be periodically changed which would stop it from ruining the front frame.

  • @russbilzing5348
    @russbilzing5348 5 лет назад +1

    For your fork problem, make a pilot bushing for it. Any front fork that will allow the use of a disc brake will have a larger neck diameter than the one you have. An old pincher type brake can easily be fitted to the front or rear wheel, as all that is required is a single hole in a crossmember.

    I use a 28" wheel in the same springer fork, kinda the same frame, and a calliper brake actually works pretty good with that setup. Also 28" wheels get you a little bit more speed on the top end.

    Use extreme pressure molybdenum grease on the bolts and bearings. Ford uses it for front wheel bearings on disc brake cars. Heat will not make it run out , it is waterproof. You can buy a can or tube of it at the auto parts store. The moly embeds into the metal and has a lubricity characteristic of its own.

    You can easily take off that rear rim cover, take apart the coaster hub and remove the shims which takes 10 minutes. And than attach a XL caliper break on the rear. I literally have the same frame. You just have to use your head with these builds.

  • @eclipsegst9419

    I would imagine that the people who say that normal unsealed wheel bearings can't handle speed just bolted on their engine and went. Dept store bikes typically are assembled by employees and are undergreased and use low quality grease. I always disassemble any bike with unsealed bearings and clean and inspect them and pack them with high quality automotive wheel bearing grease that contains moly. For a pedalbike I do this yearly but with a motor I would do it more frequently, maybe every 3 months. Those unsealed bearings were used in everything for years and years with no issue, they just need maintained, which some folks can't bother themselves to do.

    Find a mechanic shop and ask for the half round beveled washer that sits inside a Chevy rocker arm and put it in front and then run the bolt through it. You may actually have to get a little longer bolt, but that washer will keep the bolt centered and should take care of your wear problem 😊.

    I don't if it has been mentioned or if it already has one. But a heavy duty bushing might stop the wear on the bolt and the fork assembly it would wear the bushing out first..

    Hello. I'm building two similar 49cc 4 stroke bikes on standard Huffy cruiser frames. One engine kit has a chain drive clutch/trans unit and came with the extended 10" crank shaft sprocket adapter and a 44 tooth chainring sprocket that seems to be what all the chain drive kits come with. My second engine kit is a belt drive clutch/trans unit and came with a 36 tooth chaining sprocket as all the belt drive kits seems to come with. That kit also came with a fixed 36t sprocket and crank arm attached which is useless because even if I buy a short spindle shaft for it, the pedals would not likey clear the motor so I will buy the extended long spindle shaft and bottom crank bracket and a new chainring sprocket. I have some questions:
    1. Is it preferred to use a 36t or 44t chainring sprocket? I notice your build uses the 44t sprocket. I guess using a 36t chainring would make it easier to pedal.
    2. How hard is it to pedal your bike with the belt drive unit and is there much drag placed on the effort to pedal the bike caused from the engine long drive chain and clutch components have to rotate along?
    Thx......HP

      +Dan Girtzy Hello Dan! I thought about the sleeve idea but instead of trying to modify a cheap part I'm going to get the heavy duty Monarch Springer Front End not only for the quality of the fork itself but also because they offer a disc brake mount. I've gone too long with just a rear coaster brake so my builds going forward are going to have a lot better stopping power as well. Thank you for watching and for the comment! If you want send me some pictures of your build at sinistercustomcycles@gmail.com and I'll post it up on the SCC Facebook page at Facebook.com/sccmn

Is the 4 stroke worth the extra $ ? Seems alot quiter and easier to maintain. Why are the 2 stroker so more popular? Mabey because of price ?

    • @cmb271
      @cmb271 9 лет назад

      They have better throttle response, easier to fix and mine without a muffler sounds like a dirt bike and to me the louder the better. I also like how it's pedal start and not pull start, it just seems more simple and enjoyable, when I pull away I want to pedal and then start then take off not pull on a cord, the 2 strokers are cheap POS but they're decent for the price which can range from 60 to 100 dollars just for the engine.

    Where'd you get that sprocket adaptor? Seems like that would be essential to any build. Also, I motorized a mountain bike and all I can say is you cannot go wrong going that way. The dual shock forks are excellent for road absorption and there are just so many more options. I run a 2 stroke and I'm probably at about 700 miles. There are carb issues at first but it's resolved now but once tuned, fantastic gas mileage and just overall just a fun build.

    • @sinistercustomcycles110
      @sinistercustomcycles110  10 лет назад

      If you go mmbikeparts.com (Manic Mechanic) that's where I get the sprocket adapters from. Although mountain bike hubs are different diameters than on a single speed beach cruiser. For a mountain bike I would actually recommend going to Sick Bike Parts and looking in to a shift kit instead so you can utilize the gears for better torque, top speed, and gas mileage. Glad to hear that your build is working well for you! Keep me updated on what you decide to do next please!

      Hello! I would make sure of your dimensions on the Surly bike you sent a link to. From the frame design I saw on the site it looked too small with that design to house a 4-stroke engine. I haven't done a lot of research on doubling up gas and electric power on one bike before. Normally it's either one or the other. Although it sounds like you have one wicked build planned out for sure. Like I said though double check the dimensions on the frame which you should be able to take a 9" wide by 10" tall piece of cardboard and put it level inside the frame. Sinister Custom Cycles Right. The tubes are chromoly and not too fat but, yeah, the space inside the triangle may not allow clearance. ... I am commited to building upon THIS frame, more than going with a particular engine or configuration. ... I am running The Clean Republic Hilltopper kit on my current bike and it will work on ANY 26" or 700C front wheel ... They even have lace-up fits for fatter rims. ... The Troll can take any amount or type of racks and fenders and brakes ... ALL TYPES ... It is designed to be built into ANYTHING. .. But I hear you ... Check all clearances !!

      I understand the electric motorized hub is meant to be built on virtually any platform, however it's the clearance inside the frame for the 4-stroke engine you wanted to mount that may pose a challenge, however, if you're extremely careful frames can be modified. Since you have gears on that bike, you have the perfect chance to use a shift kit on there as well to get better mileage, speed, and torque range. Keep me updated and let me know how it's going for you!

      Sinister Custom Cycles Yes ... I am currently researching Jack-Shafts and ALSO ... HMMM ... I am looking at running a 1000 Watt eHub and USING A gasoline motor as a GENERATOR, for DIRECT eDrive AND to recharge a SWAPPABLE LiPO battery pack ... Just musing, at this point ... I am also considering a BOB PUSH TRAILER ... I want to make it DIFFICULT for police to recognize the gasoline motor and the BOB Push Trailer is one way to go with HUGE (FAT) Monn Lanfer Tires ... WalMart is now selling Moon-Landers for commodity prices ... Juat one more thought ... I really really want to use a powered configuration for TRUE TOURING on the Texas Gulf Coast (many jurisdictions.) ... I really like using a generator to augment an eHub (and for stealth camping Aux power. ... OR ??? ... Maybe just break down and get a USED KAWASAKI KLR ADVENTURE RIG, for around $4k~$5k ... Hmmmm.
      I want LOW COST ... SAFETY ... SUSTAINABILITY ... LOW PROFILE.

      Joshua Glover Next spring I'll have a go pro camera that I'll be using for action videos. I chose not to do them thus far because trying to hold a phone while riding would make for a horrible video. Great suggestion though, thank you!

    Just a note to anyone considering to motorize a coaster brake bike like this- DON'T DO IT. One day you will need to stop RIGHT NOW- and you will not be able to. You can seriously hurt yourself or worse. 30 mph on the bike in the video is insanity, even 20 is stupid.
    You need a bike with min. of 2 "V" brakes, disc brakes are more rain resistant and work well also. coaster brakes are for slow riding- not motorized use. Personally, I am using Puch wheels on my motorbicycle. They are HD and stop well.

      i planned on putting a small 2 stroke on a huffy cruiser that ive built up. it is a coaster bike, with the pedal brakes. so are you saying dont put motors on these bikes? should i save and get a different bike? or could i just convert my bike over to V brakes. it has all the holes and brakes for it.

    • @mtwseneca
      @mtwseneca 8 лет назад

      The only issue is you need brakes that will stop you- the thing the coaster brake will not do. Yes you can add V brakes if the posts are there, but in choosing a bike, why not select one that has the goodies on it to begin with?
      There is very little price difference, personally I like mountain bikes with a spring fork, used ones are all over the place too. If you like the style of a coaster bike, how about a Schwinn Jaguar? They have gears too.

      My bike has regular v-brakes and it works fine, then again I don't ride mine wide open LOL. I try to keep around 15-18mph on mine and that's plenty fast enough. Seems like mine really likes about 18mph seems like its sweet spot to run. I ride my motorized bike for fun, I'm certainly in no hurry LOL. Its just fun to ride and not have to pedal all the time, although I occasionally shut the engine off and pedal a while.

    You can find rear brakes that will fit over your rear fender. I've got a Huffy Beach Cruiser with coaster brake and caliper break that fits over the rear fender. There are different sizes, you just have to hunt for the one you need.
    As far as the welds on your frame coming undone, FORGET IT! Unless you are riding up and down concrete steps, it ain't gonna happen. I've got a lot cheaper bike than yours and I ride my bikes harder than every body because it's my only transpo. I've saddle bags front and back a 4 stroke engine just like yours, I carry water by the gallons, 10llb. bags of potatoes, you name it, over the roughest streets in the U.S. and for 3 years. No welds have come lose. I've got a hole drilled thru the chainstay for my chain tensioner, to keep it from being pulled over into my spokes and it's still just as sound as the day I bought it. And I weigh 200lbs. I don't know what those guys are doing to bust welds. They must be racing up and down steps is all I can figure.
    DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get on your bike again before you get another brake. Never ride a motorized bike without more than just a coaster brake. Sooner or later your pedal chain WILL come off and when it does you will be in deep you know what. Take your rear fender off and put a brake back there if you have to.
    I've got a 3 speed with NO motor and when I couldn't immediately get a brake big enough to go over the fender, I took the fender off. But I know they have them big enough, because I've got one on my motorize Huffy right now. Have a nice day. One more thing. Keep 50lbs of air especially in the rear tire. Very necessary to your health. Motorized bikes are fun, but it's fun to be seriously watched over.

    Theres people out there that say these things shouldn't daily driven on walmart frames but I have no problems with it. As long as you dont run them full throttle the entire time you ride you shouldn't have problems till you hit couple thousand miles. I have a friend that has a walmart bike with a little over a thousand miles and its still running strong. Just take care of them and they will take care of you.

      Depends on how you ride them, treat it as a motor assisted bike, feather in the engine power after you start off while pedaling, keep your cruise speed down to about ~20 mph, ride smooth and avoid the skid demon. And get a bike with decent front and rear caliper brakes, relying on a rear coaster brake will eventually cause you grief if you really need to stop quick.

    Your videos have piqued my interest in building an motorized bike. Can you let me know where you bought the kit for your Huntington build? It seems far superior to the cheetah build with the 6" crankshaft and other issues. Thanks for posting and keep up the good work.

    • @sinistercustomcycles110
      @sinistercustomcycles110  9 лет назад +1

      littlewilson25 The kit I used on the Huntington build was purchased from GasBike.net about August of 2013 and was the 49cc 4-stroke 4-G belt drive kit. From what I have seen and heard the 4G model was discontinued due to an apparent issue with a one way bearing, which I never had an issue with. Now GasBike is offering a 7G (the 5G sucked & I never even saw the 6G) kit for preorder for $250 for the entire kit. I'm a little worried about the quality on the 7G unless they turned things around and added the heavy duty parts the 4G offered. I would honestly check out the Honda GHX50 with an EZM drive combo, it costs a lot more ($840), but you get what you pay for. If I don't go with the horizontal 4-stroke, I'll definitely be going with the Honda set up this time around. I'll have another video coming out soon, probably within about 2 weeks! Thanks for the support and compliments! Keep me updated on your build!

      ~$250 skiptooth
      ~$500 wheel set (drums)
      I want to get a hoop from golden eagle & eliminate the chain but I’m not sure if I can make it work with the 4G transmission. Gonna be a spendthrift build ~2k minimum
