A 139QMB carb for a 49cc gy6 really wakes up that little motor. i upped the jet to a #80 and it has so much power the clutch slips even at high speeds. the bfg upgraded clutch solved that problem and I can go up hills with no trouble. my motor is on a schwinn scooter so there is no pedal assist. I cut the muffler off the pipe and welded on a briggs 8hp sausage mufffer and that made even more power.
Where do you find the upgraded clutch?
@@puttz2 right I wanna know lol
Hi did you use the larger jet on the stock carb?

I had a similar bike engine kit, was a 49cc 4 stroke with 4g belt transmission totally silent. I rode for 3 years to & from work every day was awesome. Throughout that time I added a sick bike parts jack shaft & eliminated the spoke sprocket which gave me 7 gears. Also added lights mirror front shocks leather seat. Absolutely had a a great time & everyday was an adventure. Thanks for this video 👍
Did you ever have to change the belt if so where did you buy it
@@daredevildare3641 I don't remember ever changing the transmission belt. But the chains were somewhat high maintenance & only a problem if not lubed or worn out & stretched to the point of coming off the sprockets that's when they get kinked & better to just replace every few thousand miles.
@@simms196 how fast did yours go I am wanting to buy one to go to fishing spots and just ride on back roads did you ever have any serious problems or anything I seen some things of peoples engines locking up but I feel like it was probably lack of maintenance on their part

My brother put a 3 hp Briggs&Stratton on a bicycle 50 years ago....2 rear rims welded together for a belt drive set up.
Great video. You did a really good job explaining everything. I'm 50 yrs old; and I'm thinking to get one of these. I refuse to grow old, still a kid inside. lol
Thanks Jason I appreciate the kind feedback. And that's awesome! I hope to be the same way when I'm 50. Good luck on it! Put it on a nice cruiser bike
I'm 69 and just ordered
One $180 aud , too scared to ride my road bike on aussie roads , a mental exercise, a slower intro
to touring
after I had my whole back wheel fall apart in the middle of a huge busy intersection I'll never use a rag joint sprocket again. I like the cnc sprockets that clamp on the hub. It's worth the extra $50
Wow what, yeah I could see that happening. Definitely not a great design
Until that backs out cuz of loose screws. Find a free wheel with 12 gauge spokes and use a front brake maybe a drum
The primary reduction drive is chain and is a 3-1 and is for the Pit and Pocket bikes on small wheels. Ideal is a 6-1 reduction like the T-belt ones. If you can fit a 56t rear sprocket, this should bring the ratio close to where it should be and ease the clutch and pedaling on hills.
I have a 39cc OHV 4st engine outboard LHS by the rear wheel. it is a geared reduction of 6-1 and till have a 48t sprocket due to the engine size.
That rear sprocket is such a pain in the ass, I use the adapter always now. I've built 3 of them, all 2 stroke. I'd like to try one of these 4 strokes one day
you got me laughing at yeah this thing feels like a death trap, but lets take off the governor.
Haha yeah I suppose contradicting actions. Grabbing helmet one second taking governor off other second
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow think it would be better with fatter tires
@@mr.a5117 Maybe cruiser tires.
Safer than a 2 stroke. Got the same Huasheng motor. Never pedaled mine once. Something aint right. I weigh 279 with a 44 tooth sprocket
@@mr.a5117 Fatter tires would add rolling resistance. add weight and reduce speed.
Him: it really can't handle hills
Me: [laughs in floridian]
it needs a bigger sprocket so it can go up a slight incline without problems, and it can still probably hit 35mph but a much higher rpm.
In the Country side of the Philippines
a 125cc motorcycle with a cargo sidecar can literally carry ¾ of a ton of stuff up a steep hill
with just a modification with the final drive ratio
Yeah I agree. This rocket the kid came with much too small
Is your wife girl friend that heavy?
The belt drive transmission for these engines is very torquey. The one I had would almost pull up the front wheel.
Where do you find the belt drive transmission? Hyperlink?
😂😂👌
Disguise the gas tank to look like a tool bag with backpack fabric. Plastic sheet like a racing number decal to cover the engine.
Good ideas!
Where I live the cops won't care much. In fact trying to cover it up would look more suspicious lol and unless you can suppress the sound a lot they will hear it and think something's up regardless
What about a rear luggage
Rack with the tank in a bag
With an extra exhaust
Restrictor or baffle, knobs around here are labelled
Dui, potheads or going
Fast to evade someone =frantic noise , attracting unfair interest, go undercover don't speed in built up areas, good luck
Love these small engine jobs you can do with a bucket of odd tools. Great video.

@@NoNonsenseKnowHow where did you put the small fuel filter?
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow what kind of bike is that I have the moter but my frame is too small I am trying to find one with a bigger frame hole. Loved the video
Just an older mountain bike that I found at the flea market cheap. It's a large frame. I believe 21 in
This is so cool and I never thought at all of this! You're a real troublemaker towards other people. Sweet idea and setup! Love this so much!
I bought a pair of saddlebags off of eBay, and used it on my small motorbike, but I thought that it would cover the motor on one of these as well, as I have just finished putting one of the two-stroke models on my mountain bike you just cut a hole in the saddle bag and it fits tightly over the petrol cap, then when the cap is on it locks the bag down and should hide the motor. They were pannier bags I think and cost around five bucks.
The clutch in these need love out of the box. If you pull the whole Trans unit off you will hear it ping even now when you turn it I bet lol! I hear where the bell is pushed in they leave tons a casting crap and such in the hole. Clean it out un-crap up the bearings in it. Like everything made from the finest Chinesium! BTW! I love your crank removal approach! I would of used bigger hammer though LOL!
Thanks for the tips. Yeah I took the clutch off in the second video. Think I'm going to hone it out a little bit and check for straightness
get a small electric leaf blower and rig it to the air intake, you will hit 45+ for sure if that little head doesnt blow lol
Hah a yeah that sounds fun, but I don't think I trust the bicycle at 45 mph
I got the same kit 3months ago…… works well hard to setup unfortunately I got my finger right in the chain and chopped 😅 my finger off and got surgery other than that be careful with it lots of fun 😂
Dayum!
Great Video. My 2 cents scrap the rubber floppy disc grommet and chain tensioner. Upgrade first build. Two biggest headaches are gone.
If you look inside the ports you’ll see a skirt blocking 1/4 of them. I dremelled it to a ramp. I also jetted the carb and put a breather on the valve cover. Then I sealed the crankcase breather hole. Mine was governed by the size of the carburetor.
Did you notice a power increase? Honestly I don't really want this thing to be any more powerful or faster. I enjoyed the fact that it is mild and gets incredible feel mileage
I answer to your question my top speed is 36 after mods. We are flat with virtually no hills.
Wow mine doesn’t go as fast lol but mine is a lot of tq. Requires no pedaling even up hills. I got mine off Amazon and it’s the belt drive to chain
Put a basket on the back of the bike, and mount the fuel tank inside the basket, to hide it. The fuel tank will be concealed by the things you put in the basket.
That's a good idea!
Except anyone can see the engine
Mount the engine in the basket on the rear in the basket and use a 2 or 3 horse power briggs use screen for breathing holes and run exhaust out the bottom. Put fuel tank in front of handle bars.
Tell the cop you dont entertain suspicions
Just another point, here In the UK these kits are Illegal to use on any Roads or paved side roads (UK LAWS) BUT, how about mounting the engines on a rear wheel carrier/ rack driving a dynamo to charge a battery feeding an electric motor that propels the cycle/ a battery propelled bicycle WITH peddles IS legal in the UK to use on Roads (highways) but lots of work - lol - just saying though as It makes a joke out of UK laws..have a great ride.
Electric kits $250. US, on ebay. Foldable solar panels, super cheap. If they made a better kit, you could get a electric front hub, electric rear hub. Could have 2/3/4 wheel drive bicycles, that charges itself while you ride.
Convolute EVERYTHING! 🤣
Could you attach a generator to a electric bike ?
I got a 2 stroke it took a while to get it going to get it right. First it’s chain then the guide but made chain really short. Did some adjustments. Runs like a champ
I just installed the same engine on my bike and your video was a great help. Thank you very much.
Glad it helped
Getting the wheels balance will help with the violent vibrations
You should be able to start from rest by just twisting the throttle without pedaling. Also it should be able to handle hills without pedaling as well. I can see what you are missing is the choke switch, which is the white plastic that you didn't touch at all, and is left at the closed position all the while, that's why you're not getting enough power. You are supposed to close it when cold-starting the engine, and then open when it's already running, where the bike can be operated like a regular scooter. With the choke operational and you still have the same issues, then your centrifugal clutch is faulty.
You are a genius
I've always wondered what it would be like if you could install this with a 3 speed hub.
I was real close to purchasing a two stroke engine for my Bicycle. Then, my wife shot me down and suggested I pay the $550 for an ebike conversion. My first wheel was bent like a pretzel. Finally, got a good one. The advantage of the ebike. I don't worry about the cops as the thing is silent. The negative. I'm 225lbs and get about 15 miles just using throttle. Would not make a long distance tourer. I have a 143 HP Yamaha FJR for that. It is nice just to hop on and go.
Yeah the electric bikes are awesome! But definitely can't beat the range and cost effect effectiveness of the four-stroke bicycle kits

@Robert Joseph which kit did you buy?
BTW, you never use lock washers with unlock nuts.
why
Thought about buying on the install seemed to go smoothly. Guess it comes down to which bike is best for the kit. 4 stroke is probably best I mean straight gas right? no mixing with the oil or breaking it in?
I just got done ripping around on my 4 stroke build and it does 40+ mph couldn’t get my crankshaft to work so I’m just motor power only and it runs my 290# self around just fine 😅
Looks like you could have slapped a bigger motor on that probably would have made it easier to take off without pedaling. But this is still very cool. Nice video.
That part where you yelled "Pretty quiet with no muffler"... hilarious! 🤣🤣
But true it was quiet
Install a bigger rear sprocket to lower top speed.
It will make the auto clutch functional and climb hills .
Mine does 24mph.
Drill and pop rivet tank brackets to frame.
Same with chain tensioner.
What sized rear sprocket did you use; how many teeth? If it's not too much trouble, could you give me a link to the sprocket you used? Thanks.
24inch wheel is the same
But take out a few links
I don’t know shiitake
I think you have that backwards. a smaller rear sprocket would lower your speed but increase torque applied to the wheel.
@@mattrhoton9219 nope.
Smaller gear goes faster.
i had 2 of those chonda engines the 1st one came with a bigger torque converter and would go about 25 mph max speed and would take off quickly, the 2nd had the small torque box shown in this video and topped out at 20 mph and would take a long time to accelerate
I’ve got one that will do 20 comfortably. Got a tach turns out that’s about 4500 ish rpm. I don’t like running it faster than that because it starts vibrating like a mf. I have a new rear sprocket coming thats way way smaller. A 28 tooth sprocket to be exact. So we’ll see how that goes.
I guess all in all it’s impressive that out of the box it worked without major Fabricating of custom parts ! You should install a set of Handle bars turned upside down like they used to do on the old Race Motorbikes
What's the purpose of changing the front sprocket? And is it possible to leave your old sprockets on, disengage the clutch, and ride it like a normal bike if you run out of gas?
To be able to put the longer crank shaft in for extended pedals
I have several thousand miles on mine. I do build motorized bikes for a living. There fantastic.
Any videos or pictures? I love to see them. Ppl concern about speed, not fast enough, it's a bicycle for crying out loud, not a motorcycle! 🤣🤣

i've learned to also tighten all the screws, nuts and bolts that i can get to on, in and under the engine before i start it
I have one of these and I have to help it pedal up minimal inclines. I’m lucky to get 15 mph on level ground at WOT. Transmission issue maybe?
40 mph honestly sounds amazing, I'm gonna order a kit tomorrow and get the bike next paycheck
Definitely pretty amazing! But be careful. Pretty sketchy on a bicycle going that fast
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow will do! Gonna get all the necessary protection too
Maybe having a belt primary with a CVT style transmission would make for smoother operation through the rpm range. Might get you up the hills too! Last thing I want to do, is pedal a bike with a motor on it uphill.
Do you know of one by chance? I’ve never seen one for the two stroke or 4 stroke kits but would be awesome.
@@kjohns1413 pretty sure they sell the 4 strokes with torque converters on ebay.
Hello, I love the video I’ve had motorized bicycles before but never put a kit together like you did. I had a ATV quad in the past and there was a saddle bag that fit over the gas tank that might conceal your engine if you’re going to a place with a lot of cops you can try that To cover it up.
Bicycles and motorcycles have top speed roughly 31mph times the cube root of the horsepower, provided the gearing is such that top speed is at the RPM corresponding to peak hp. 1.4kW = 1.88hp and the cube root is 1.23. 31x1.23=38mph, so that works out.
i got same motor and 38 mph wow i can only get 30-32 mph. i removed the governor thing but didnt make a difference. how can i get this thing to do 38?
@@xthe_moonx you probably have a higher tooth rear sprocket which increases acceleration but reduces top speed
You should get a sprocket hub adapter for it would be A lot easier
nine bolts could be a real pain
Yeah I was briefly looking into those. The bolts are definitely time consuming but it works good. Unless you have to swap outs brackets
loving these videos. what a great channel.Always a new project going on. Think I'm addicted now. 👍🇮🇪🇺🇸
Might be a little labor intensive but I was thinking of creating a custom faring to cover the motor by cutting up a plastic barrel or something similar. Possibly a used faring from a motorcycle salvage yard could be easier.
That would be awesome!
CUTE. I’m a 66 YO AMERICAN, living in China…since 2005. I’m often AMAZED by some of their cool designs…but QUALITY IS ALWAYS QUESTIONABLE….which is why I originally came here. I’m a multi-layered Engineer, specializing in product development, manufacturing and quality assurance. They have a wide variety of MINI-EV designs (3 wheeled and 4 wheeled) that should be more widely available and used in the USA.
Sounds like something I might undertake myself…MADE IN USA. Blessings
Another awesome video! Now I know how a centrifical clutch works, thank you very much!
super cool build. I'm a tinkerer and want to learn more about ICE. The ''death trap'' feel is likely from frame flex and that ''CHORK" Chinese front fork...super nasty build quality on that fork. Give some consideration to a SOLID steel high quality bike and transplant the engine.
I have the same one with pad brakes like yours, but the braking isn't great when you're going at 30 km/h. do you have this problem?
Would it be better for the hub at the back to be a modern disk hub for bikes and machine a sprocket big enough to sit on the disk brake holes to make it a better built sprocket? Maybe alignment issues would occur.
Also your rockhopper looks the part.
The issue with a rear brake disc is the little amount of space you have available to actually put one in, if you DO however have enough space then you need a sprocket adapter for the rear wheel hub and then a disc brake adapter that can be bolted onto the sprocket itself
It's way better to use 6 bolt disc hubs. Sprocket+spacer+ disc=zero headaches. Don't forget loctite. 5 years zero issues.🍻
It would be so cool to have freewheel cranks and run the engine through the bike's derailer system to have gears.
Is it possible to hook it up so you can change gears like you can normally on a foot operated 10 speed or 12 speed ?
Maybe weld the casete and turn the wheel
I also dont like those clutches, you can get a go cart clutch off amazon for like $50-$70. They are belt driven and act like an automatic transmission. Ive heard they dramatically affect the torque and top end of a 4 stroke.
Yeah they are definitely kind of junky. Is that a direct bolt on to this engine? I'll have to look in to one
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow They really should, some of them have to have a small part of it grinded off to fit. But a lot of them come with that part already missing.
A jack shaft put the drive to the 5 speed shifter gives you low to high speed
I have a Chinese, stand up, gas scooter and the centrifugal clutch vibrates bad when taking off until it stops slipping. Maybe it's just the clutch slipping. Try taking off in a lower gear if you can.
I saw some unusual bicycle fairing kits that might suit your purposes.

I appreciate the recommendation. I kind of like the 38mph top speed right now though. I took the clutch drum off and it looks to be pretty warped. Going to try to correct that first and see how it goes
So with the sprocket and the wheel not spinning perfectly straight and being a little wobbly, did you ever have any issues with that? While riding?
Hello do you know why my pull start too hard and do 7 and 8 time

Harder to repair actually and you can find basic parts, no upgrades. But it is more reliable and with a #80 or #85 jet you can even be faster than you friends. And getting more mpg.
Love it, thank you for sharing
The centrifugal clutch is Not where you show it in the transmission case, but at the engine itself, and by using a small rear sprocket, you have gotten the top speed high and the engine bogs down at lower RPM.Beginner.

Very good. I built a 2 stroke version, kinda like it better. Has that awesome beehive sound, I have a big chrome expansion chamber on the thing so it looks pretty bad ass. I have been able to get some pretty good performance out of it with a high compression head, upgraded carb and exhaust. Sure is loud though!! It makes so much power now the clamped rear sprocket like yours has bent all the spokes!
This would be great if it wasn't a complete kludge. That whole crank replacement thing is absurd, the rear sprocket on the spokes will 100% bend them and ruin a normal bike wheel, and the engine mount isn't going to work on so many bikes. Even though the center-o-gravity would be weird, IMO, this engine oughta go behind the seat, and the fuel tank belongs in the triangle where the engine went. Seems like you could share the main cassette with the regular chain, but ultimately this design needs a freewheel on the pedal crank to really be solid. And i've never seen one of those.
Just bought one 👍🏻
Your speed and hill climb issues would change with different size wheels. Maybe that is obvious. How would that perform on a smaller bike?
Yeah for sure. Or could swap out the sprockets. But then I guess you would lose that nice top speed of 38 mph down a slight decline
I think it would do awesome on a smaller bike. As long as there's enough room to fit it in there
The 2 strokes aren’t worth not.
Not unless you get one from a builder which basically includes nothing of the original (not the case, not the bearings, crank (well unbalanced)
Almost nothing. Maybe a piston if non reed.
The 4 strokes are the way to go. Just don’t rot on them at high rpm for long periods
I agree.
In your experience? Which is? Facts reasoning examples rationale attitude
Over to you
@@mmark8394got a 2 stroke. Had problems with it after a month. I agree that it wasn't babied, but that kit had big carburetor problems and the acceleration handle just broke. My magneto failed, the spark plug boot just broke the metal part on top of it, one of the 3 nits the clutch was mounted on broke and my chain snapped 4 times. And in the end the engine decide to blow a gasket. But yeah, two stroke are reliable (if they are not turned on).
Could you trim your aluminum pieces, and drill n tap em for the pedals?
That bike frame has so much room for that motor good gosh lol
I’m know nothing about 4 stroke engines but you might have install your rear sprocket on the wrong side. That maybe the reason why your chain is rubbing
More research on this kit is it may come with a 3:1 cheapy gearbox which could give about 37 mph and almost no torque. Very poor gear ratio. Belt drive would be much better.
Can you still work the pedals? The left hand side looks like it protrudes all the out to the pedal.
Yeah I had no problems working the pedals. I suppose that's one of the big benefits of the smaller two-stroke engine kits though
