Hello youthman! Which Emotiva amp do you think would be best for the Klipsch LCR (RP 8000f + 504c), the BasX A3 or XPA-3?! I like to listen to movies at around 90db. Thank you as always for the great review.
Hi, thank you so much for the nice video. Can I drive a pair of Polk audio Reserve R500 and an R300 center channel (LCR) with a basx a3 (from Denon AVR-X3700H) as part of a 7.2.4 configuration? Will XPA-3 gen 3 be a better choice for the LCR in comparison with BasXA3? Room size 13x16 ft height 9ft. Will XPA-3 be worth the extra money for the given speakers? I purchased an Emotiva A3 and installed it yesterday. It is an external amp to my Marantz SR7012. The improvement in sound is amazing and I am very happy with my purchase. Thanks again for the review!
Thanks for sharing your setup Craig. Novice to external amps but good to know that a newish Marantz that put outs 125 wrms per channel vs a standalone 140 rms Emotiva that sells for around $500 made such a difference!
@@joshgeorge83 Yes, I was happily surprised. I wanted the extra oomph because I am getting new speakers soon that are lower in sensitivity and lower impedance (4 ohm). Very happy to hear improvements overall.
Great video. I have a 5.1 System. I got the A2 for drive my front ML 60xts. With the Marantz SR7013 driving the center, sub-woofer and surrounds. Tried with just the Marantz alone and while not an audiophile there was definitely something missing in my classical music which is my main interest. The sound was sort of dull which led me to believe that despite whatever Marantz may say the SR7013 does not do a good job of driving 4Ohm speakers like the MLs. With the Emotiva in place and re-running Audyssey things really and I mean really came to life. The front sound stage is really great now. Then to test it with movies I did John Wick 3 on my Oppo 203 and the sound was phenomenal (to use your favorite word). BTW the biggest test was playing the opening of the movie 2001 and then the Organ Symphony by Saint-Saens. Those organ intros will put any system to the test. From my perspective the Emotiva is really a good by.
@michaelbass5951 i have rp 8000 f2 and klipsch center running on pioneer elite lx505 avr. Thinking of purchasing a3. Did u find any difference in sound?
I have had the a3 for a few weeks now. Really happy with it ! Avr runs cooler, dynamics are great, center channel dialogue super clear. Highly recommended.
Nice video. I have the A7. Now using my Denon X6700H as a pre amp only. Never had separates before. It does sound really nice. I can't believe how cool it runs. I am very happy with it. I really enjoy your videos.
Brilliant, comprehensive review. Covered all the Bas-X (pun intended)! Been an Emotiva fan for a few years now & definitely gonna add a couple more of these amps to the system after the new processor arrives. A3 & A4 purchases are imminent !
@@Youthman how do you think the emotiva a2 and other amplifiers by them compared to amps from the following companies Denon, outlaw audio, Onkyo, and schiit? Better or worse quality with the same setup?
I've always wanted to do separates in my theater room when I'm done but never thought I'd be able to afford it, thanks for the update and the future outlook of separates in my home theater
Thanks for this review! I have a Marantz that runs hot, and I'd like to off load some of the work to a separate amp. You got me really excited to power my center and mains with the Emotiva!! Great Job!!!
i bought the r700, r200, r900 love those speakers paired with the LSiM center channel and two HTS 12 subs sounds amazing. love these speakers. movie night is quite amazing for sure.
How did this compare to your Monoprice amps? I doubt your JTR speakers are really pulling 200w unless you're listening above reference so it would really come down to if you could tell the difference from a sound perspective and not a volume one.
Will I hear a difference switching my front 3’s from my Pioneer LSX-VX505 to the A3? I’m 50/50 movies/music, I’m not looking for it to get louder, I’m looking for clarity, more detail out of my KEF Q750 / Q650c combo.
Set mine up last night and the difference is night and day from my Pioneer SC-97. The sound is way more impactful and clear. And the voice dialogue is much stronger with clarity. I also noticed I don’t have to turn my volume up as much as I used to to get to reference level. These are definitely enough power for most people in my opinion. Im ordering the A4 next month for my surrounds that way my receiver will just be a Preamp. Emotiva is definitely hurting the competition with these value amps.
That heat test is super great to hear included here. I was immediately interested in this tech.. Nice to know they held up under the stress test. I suppose I'll keep my eyes out for a Youthman deal on this set as I move forward.
how well does it do with 4 ohm speakers. the op has me worried that this amp won't fair well with 4ohm speakers because emotiva didn't include the 20hz to 20khz rating for 4ohms in the specs.
I ordered mine last night and just in the nick of time it seems based on some of the comments I've read here about Emotiva being out of stock. Really excited to hear how it sounds paired to my Onkyo TX-RZ 820 and my Klipsch RP-600M's. Been really satisfied with my system so far. Hopefully this raises the sound a level or two. Thanks for your excellent and informative review. Made me feel even more excited about my purchase. Keep up the great work!
I bought the Emotiva LPA-1 back around 2000 or so. It still works flawless and sounds great after 20 years. Back then it was only $499.00 with free shipping and no sales tax . I weighs in at 65 lbs with its 1200 volt toroidal transformer.
Nicely Done. I was wondering if this Bas X A3 might help me from not riding the volume knob on my Denon receiver while watching action movies with a lot of sound effects ? When dialogue volume is set to a comfortable listening levels it then is very uncomfortable to hear sound effects :( or maybe there is a setting on the receiver to cap the db levels ? Thanks in advance.
This is why your one of my fav RUclips’s Michael. You review top notch gear that we all dream of but you also review entry level stuff that most of us can save for and afford. You deserve a mill subs bro 🚀😁🤝
I have a pair of SVS ultra bookshelves, no center channel, two prime elevation for surrounds, and a rsl 10mkii. My AVR is a Onkyo RZ50. Would I benefit anythig with something like this? I do have a pair or Ultra towers in the waiting until I move out, along with a Ultra center channel, with dual PB3000s. Its just that in my current living space I cant connect all that, yet.
You had option even before the A3. You could just buy a 5 channel amp (Bas-X A500) and use only 3 channels for the LCR’s. Or 2 identical stereo integrated amps ? One for L & R and the other one for the Center ? You have independent volume control , tone control and on/off switching.
Hi. I have just installed the BasX A3 to my LCR, Arendal 1961 Monitor and center to my Marantz SR7009. I do hear some noise floor when I am close to the speakers. Would you say that is normal/ok from this amp? Did you or anyone else hear this noise? I only hear it when the sound is muted, so it is comming from the amp I would say. Thanks
I have the A5 and can confirm that they do indeed run cool. Watched Jon Wick 3 last night (4K disk) at a very high volume and the top of the A5 was not even warm! I was quite surprised.
Michael, what about an A3 for a set of Ultra Towers and center. They’re not as efficient as your JTR’s. Would it be more juice to the front sound stage than my Onkyo 805? Appreciate your thoughts.
@@danemoreno88 I got a monolith m M215 for an excellent price, hope to pick up the other one soon, then amps will be next, but I am thinking the monolith 7x.
Just purchased a emotiva A3 and A4 for my klipsch reference series speakers and going to run my 4 dolby atmos speakers on my denon avr‑x3700h since I've been watching this channel I've spent a lot of money 😂😂
Any budget pre pro "s in the pipe line? The 7 channel BasX is interesting ... If the specs for wattage are all channels driven(90 at 8 ohms) ...you could use that for your Height speakers 4 and 2 channels for the surround backs...take the pressure of your receiver in my case the Marantz sr6011. Which i have an Anthem MCA 325 doing the front 3 and 2 mono blocks from Emotiva doing my rears So would it be worth it to get the BasX A7 ...would I hear any improvement???
Hello there Youthman. I know this is unrelated to the main topic of the video but: I have the updated ProMedias from Klipsch and for $150 US, you just can't beat them as they are a great set of speakers and the set you have are the Star Wars edition set and that is the older set. When it comes to the updated set, they fixed all of the problems that people had with the older set. The volume doesnt bounce back and forth in between the satellites anymore at low volumes (the workaround I found was to set the main volume to about a quarter of the way up and just use the windows volume and it was actually really easy), they put more robust drivers in the satellites and the updated sub actually seems to dig a little deeper at low volumes than the old sub meaning it has gotten a driver upgrade as well. The improvements made are meaningful so if your old set dies, you wouldn't go wrong with the updated set man. I had to get it cause the satellites gave up the ghost on my old set or at least the midrange drivers did so I had to get another set and that is how i wound up with the updated ProMedias. Oh and they still have a beautifully balanced sound signature like the old set so it is more of a refresh than a new design. They also still look the same. No redesigning was done. How I could tell you had the set or at least the satellites is cause of the recognizable shape and gold badge on the covers and personally, i like the look of them without the covers on. They look like miniature studio monitors to me.
That’s great to hear they fixed a lot of the issues. I have owned several over the years. Mine are definitely experiencing every issue you mentioned LOL I have purchased an older set of Boston acoustics that I loved back in the day. I want to check them out to see how they sound
@@Youthman They actually sound a little better than the old set as I said. Not muvh, but there IS an improvement. The improved drivers actually added more detail and the sub actually digs a little deeper than before from what I have heard on mine and quite honestly it is worth plopping the $150 down on the set as they sound just as good as the old set with the same clarity and tight bass as the last set. I bought mine cause the midrange drivers kicked the bucket on my old set and i was hearing nothing but sub and tweeter and nothing else and that is what was being sold and hell even the volume goes up evenly as i said which doesn't on the old set. It bounces back and forth on your current set so that is why I mentioned that workaround so the improved set is definitely worth checking out.
I have the Martin Logan motion 40 and the Slim Xl for my rear with Svs Sb 3000.This is hooked up to Denon X4500h. If I add the Basx A7amp how will that improve my sound especially the tweeter. Thanks in advance.
I would not expect a night and day difference from a $499 amplifier but typically amplifiers provide better separation of musical instruments, more bottom end (if you are running them full range) and give you more headroom when you really want to crank it up.
Does it run hot , I have a crown xls 1002 .had it running for about 10 hrs and it doesn’t break a sweat . Yes it’s two channel but I still Have options
What AVRs allow you to pre-out just your front 3 Channels? The Denon and Marantz, I think, only allow you to choose either (2) speakers to switch to Pre-outs, or all speakers as pre-outs. I know all the pre-outs are still active .... but the amps in the AVR are still on, except for what you tell the AVR to pre-out, for it to switch off the internal amps.
I believe, your misunderstanding how an AVRs internal amplification works and how to utilize its different features sets. Many mid tier and up AVRs have an amp reassignment feature these days, which to me sounds like what your talking about, amp reassignment allows you to reassign the speaker input channels. In the AVR settings you can choose/switch how the AVRs internal amplification performs... instead of being limited to the standard 5ch or 7ch theatre setups, you can instead reassign certain input channels to be a height ch, dolby atmos ch, a 2nd zone etc etc... but the amp reassign feature doesnt use the AVR pre outputs, it instead uses the AVR speakers inputs either via the RCA analog connection inputs or speaker wire terminal in's. For example, if you have a 5 ch amp but are only using the front 3 chs LCR in a setup, you could then choose to use the remaining 2 chs (4th/5th ch) as a secondary 2ch stereo system in a near by room by reassigning the 4/5ch as 2nd zone amplification and connect speakers to the AVRs 4/5ch inputs via RCA in's or speaker wire in's... all 5 speakers would still be powered from the AVRs internal amplification but youd effectively have 2 audio setups aka 2 zones being powered through a single AVR... your just reassigning the amp inputs. Now pre outs (pre amplifier outputs) on the other hand operate different, preouts essentially circumvent the AVRs internal amplification functions. Many mid to high tier AVRs will typically have a series of RCA speaker pre outputs, the pre outs are only used in conjunction with external amplification like a powered sub or power amplifiers. Once you connect an external power amps RCA inputs into a AVRs preouts, the AVR will automatically recognize it no longer needs to power the corresponding AVR speaker inputs through the AVRs internal amplification and will redirect that amp power back into any remaining channels that are not being externally powered. So for example, if you have a 5ch AVR but chose to power the front 3 chs (LCR) through a power amplifier connected through the AVR Left, Center, and Right speaker pre outs, the AVR speaker inputs both RCA inputs and the speaker wire inputs will no longer receive amplification from the AVR itself, since your now providing the LCRs power through an external amp instead... Your AVR will automatically recognize this and take its internal LCR amp power and redirected it to the remaining surround ch's of your AVR... in the case of a 5ch amp that means all the additional internal amp power is then redirected to your remaining 4th&5th ch inputs... Its just like how connecting a powered sub to the sub preouts of an AVR relieves and frees up the AVRs internal amp power to be better utilized in powering the speaker channels. Hope that helps clear things up for you.

I recently got Parasound A31 to drive my LCR and was thinking of getting the BassX A4 x 2 to drive my surrounds and atmos speakers. What is the noise floor like on these BassX amps. Seems like it might be a good pairing for my home theater. Thoughts???
I was considering the a3 to unload the onkyo rz50 and upgrade my system from 7.1.2 to 7.1.4 using the a3 for the front stage and leaving everything else on the rx50. My question would be, do you still recommend a3 or should I be looking to spend more. Ps front stage is a pair of klipsch rf82ii and rp600c, all others are r51mb.
@alondo brown I ended up going with the a3 for center and rears, then an a2 for front left and right. Then all surrounding speakers on the rz 50. Works incredible.
Great video, Michael. I’m keeping an eye on the UK stock - rumour has it, we might have to wait around 2 months before they arrive here. This is certainly on my wish list to take some strain off of my Marantz SR 7011. :-)
I have the marantz SR 7012 with klipsch RP800F, klipsch c404 centers . i have a rotel R985 running the center and surround (100watt a channel). Thinking of getting the emotiva A3 which has 150watts a channel to power the fronts and center. i have the fronts hooked up to the the marantz and front atmos only. Am i going to gain or hear a big diff with this amp?
How does the Emotiva DR3 stack up to the Anthem, Parasound and Monolith when using it for the front 3 speakers in a good 5.1 setup? (Rotel RAP 1580MK2, Wharfedale Elysian 2 + Elysian Center, REL S/510, Wharfedale Evo 4S) ? Which one would you advice?
I just bought an A3 to power my LCR and for the price it sounds really good to me, is there better amps, absolutely, but for the price you can't beat it.
Hi! I have a pretty small living room with a 5.1.4 speaker configuration. I have to turn up the volume a lot to here the details in front and also the dialogue. But when I have this kind of volume on my other speakers scares the s*it out of me when something action filled happens. Is this product something that can help so that all speakers are at the same level at all Times? Thx! Kind regards
I currently have the klipsch 8000f, 504c, and 502s. I'm thinking of doing the A3 to power the front 3 and just let my receiver do the surrounds. Do you think the surrounds do find without an amp (receiver is yamaha tsr700)?
That is a fantastic question. I have a video going live today at noon that might help you out. It’s all about how to best optimize your center channel for the best experience. There may be some tips in that video that you have not applied
Hi youthman, I love your videos and presentation style. I have been dreaming to build a diy home theatre. Could you please advise me a really affordable AVR to pair with an external 3 channel amp for driving the LCRs? And I will let the internal amplifiers of the AVR drive the 2 surround channels + 2 ceiling Atmos channels and 1 sub is driven directly by the AVR. Also I would love to have avr with dirac or other like anthem Arc
Even if the power wattage information were always correct, its only one factor to determine the quality of amplifiers. The acting of the guys was funny
With no discounts said, would you trade in your Monolith for the BasX or do you still consider the Monolith to be a superior product overall even with the cap at 200 watts per channel?
@@Youthman let me rephrase, Monolith 3x200 for $1,249.99 or BasX A3 3x140 for $499. Sure more power, but over 2x the cost. Just trying to get a feel for is the delta really worth it for the monolith.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe most AVRs don't offload the wattage from channels you are routing to an amp. Adding an amp for the front 3 channels doesn't then give that power over to the remaining channels. Some do, but even the newer Denons don't do it for individual channels. It's all or nothing.
You are thinking of preamp mode. Most AVR’s specs are rated for 2ch driven. Each speaker you add reduces the amount of power to each speaker. So if you have an AVR that is 130wpc with 2ch driven, by the time you get up to 11 speakers, that AVR is only able to deliver maybe 55wpc. Connect an external amp for the LCR and you now gain more power to the remaining speakers.
@@Youthman Interesting, ok. I have thought about picking up an amp for my front soundstage (Klipsch) for a couple years, but I've been waiting for the right time. I might have to check out the A3.

Once the amplifier is connected what’s next to do on on the AVR. I have a Denon x4300h. Do I have to ser the left and right front speakers to pre-amp. Any advice will be appreciated
I’d probably notice a decent up in sound quality with this? Currently have a 5.2.2 system with the speakers being the elac debut 2.0 line. They are powered by the denon s750h. I’d have to upgrade to a 3700h and then get the amp. Trying to decide if that jump in price would be worth it.
I upgraded to my first separate amp. AVR only has two preouts so have my fronts running at 400w each. The difference is worth it. I had to return the one I borrowed as I ordered my own and in the few days I waited without it I was disappointed with the sound. I can’t go back.
Hey Youth man im new to the home theater space I currently have a 7.1 denon system. That reciever is going out. I'm looking at the denon 3700h to make a 7.4.1 system but when it comes to amps I want a constant sound with the whole system. I'm thinking about an emotiva 4 channel or the denon pma 600ne. Will I lose the denon sound if I go with the emotima because I feel like I get a better deal with them.
Hi Michael. Thanks for posting this video. I was just doing some more research into Emotiva! I currently have a Denon X1300W so I can't hook up an amplifier, but I'm looking to fix that with a X3700 in the near future. However, I typically don't listen at higher volumes than - 25 DB. Would an Amp then make a significant difference for someone like me? Sidenote: I just scored a nearly pristine RC-64 V1 to go with my RF-63 towers. I've been looking for a long time and finally got one, I'm SO pleased with it. It's very different from my previous RC-62.
Typically an amp will add better separation of instruments but I certainly would not expect a night and day difference, especially at lower volume. Congrats on the new upgrades. :)
Great video 👍🏽 Question tho, since you have a relationship with Emotiva can you either ask them when or if (plans to make) their amps can be bridge safely with 8 ohm speakers (4 ohm a-la Elacs would probably be asking for to much since they dip so low). I know in theory it can be done but not sure if their amps would be stable enough. Thx dude
I just heard back from Emotiva “We don't have capability for bridging on these BasX amps but people can bi-amp with these amps with no issues on an 8 ohm speaker. They will comfortably handle 4 ohm loads with no problems. “
Mr. Youthman, I have a question for you if I may. I have a modest home theater set up.7.2.4. I am running Polk S60s for fronts S35 center and same signature series match for surround and rears. My Atmos are polk as well, nothing fancy. I have 2 matching subs. My power is a Denon 6500 H. Im happy with its performance but like yourself Im needing more. Can you tell me If I add another emotiva 3 or 5 and take some power from denon will I get much more noticeable power or more ummff if you will out of my theater or am i just buying something I don't ned. I am tackling my sub upgrade to 2 15s. I want more. Thank you for your time.
Hey I just got the Basx 3 and Basx 6 delivered. And on Tuesday I get the Basx Mc1. So Emotivia told me that they have no sleep timer. They told me to check my cable box to see if they have that option and it does not. So they said to use my Samsung tv’s sleep timer. So I have a question on hook up: if I plug all my devices to the Mc1 would I use the hdmi arc out to the tv and the the tv’s hdmi arc back to the processor I just wanted to say thanks for all your help.
Great and very anticipated review! How does the a3 sounds in stereo music? Asking cause my usage is 60% movies and 40% music? Should i go for integrated stereo instead?
A3 is 140w x 3 ch but also 175w when only 2 channels driven. Same as the A2. Apparently you lose nothing in getting the A3 over the A2 when only driving 2 channel stereo music. I thought that was pretty cool. I mean, why buy an A2 if the A3 performs the same driving 2 channels? Should have made the A2 200w or something.
@@Mr-Midnight-1-1-88 Its good the gap in the market has now been filled with affordable amps. I’m now considering paying a bit more for the a7 instead. I’ve currently got the audiolab 6000a which is just a 2 channel amp. So having the 7 channel will be better then I’ll only have the receiver powering the 4 atmos speakers
Had my a3 paired with a demon 4700 since they came out. Sounds great. A2 175w x 2 channels. A3 140w x 3 channels BUT also 175w per channel when only 2 channels driven...just like the A2. So the best of both worlds! Great multichannel for HT yes... but when you go 2.1 for music it becomes an a2 and boosts the watts per channel to 175. I'm about to add 2 x A4 for my surrounds and Atmos speakers and put the Denon in pre-amp mode.
As mentioned in the video, according to the specs, the Basx line doesn't handle 4 ohm loads very well. Unfortunately, this also holds true for their more expensive XPA amps. I think I'll be going with Outlaw.
So I’m kind of new to home theater. If I already have my front speakers hooked up to my denon receiver and I buy this product, am I just unplugging the speaker wires from the receiver and plugging them into the emotiva?
you need to make sure that your AVR has preouts, and than you hook those channels up to the amplifier with RCA cables. Then you connect the speaker wires for the channels your running to the amp.
@@Youthman That's probably true especially against the newer Emotiva. No doubt Anthem makes good equipment, I have an AVM60 I'm planning to use in my new theater but in a blind test I don't think I could tell you if Anthem power amps were connected to it vs Emotiva.
Currently have the Denon x6700 running 11.2 Would there be any benefit to adding the BasX A3 to run the fronts and center and let the Denon run the rest of the speakers? Thanks for the great info.
The 6700H has a pretty beefy power supply but as with all AVR’s, the more speakers you add, the less wattage per ch that you get. It likely depends on how efficient your speakers are whether or not adding an A3 would make a difference or not
It doesn’t come with ears. I have the A5. I just put it on a 2U rack shelf. Emotiva site shows a few rack ears. One of them would work. Go to their RUclips channel and you’ll find a short video where they’re demonstrating the installation.
Honestly I love my A300 and I question if I really need to upgrade it. Have it fed by a Gustard X26 Pro with a Topping Pre 90, and the amp high passed at 60 hz by my Emo subs. Use an Isolation transformer on it. It sounds beautiful. Everything you would want.
@@Youthman I like you and Technodad and Andrew Robinson and combine that with the Audioholocs reviews and you can really put toggled a decent picture even before auditioning them.
Yes I always recommend watching as many different people as possible because we all have different experiences, different perspectives and even different opinions.
Hey Youthman, love what you do! I have a Yamaha RX A1070 which I run two front speakers with small up-firing speakers sitting on top which are in parallel, smallish center speaker, two rear and two rear surrounds plus 2x 12" and 2x 8" subs, I'm pretty happy with the sound but think I could benifit from a 3 channel amp like the one in your vid to power the front, how would I integrate it in with my AVR?
I’m curious which interconnects you’re using or used while testing the amp? I have a A3 coming in this week to test along with my Denon X3800H. Would Blue jeans Coaxial Digital Audio Cable be suitable? Thanks!
@@Youthman awesome thanks. I’m barely on a 5.1.2 setup in a medium room so not sure if the basx will do anything noticeable, audibly, but i was curious enough to test it myself. Thanks again!
Hi Michael, this may be a stupid question, but you refer to reference level, what does that mean? You have also shown us videos where you will display it as being -10db. How do you get this number? I have a Marantz AVR based on your recommendation and it doesn't show anything of db level. Do you only get that when you go with separates?
That’s not a stupid question at all. When you run Audyssey, it adjusts the levels of each channel so that it produces 75dB with peaks up to 105dB when watching a movie. In the General settings of the Marantz, go to “Volume” and change it from a scale of 0-99 to dB. So when I say that I’m watching a movie at -10 dB, i’m watching at 10 dB lower than “reference level”
If your speakers are thirsty, you can get the OSD Nero XA5180 and just use 3 channels for 200wpc. It's $200 more expensive than it was a few months ago, but still probably the best AVR offload bang for buck.
@Youthman I wanted to know, want to use BasX A3 with my Denon AVR-X4700H & Polk Reserve R600 & R400 for my front stage. Is this combination helpful to improve the front stage sound quality & shifting the load off from AVR that will improve the performance of R100 surround speakers & Atmos speakers. Is this combination will be helpful...!!!? Please reply your advice will be great help for me.
Yes adding an A3 would remove some of the load from your AVR. How much difference you will actually hear, that’s another question. Everyone is different. I have mostly run very efficient speakers so adding amplifiers in my set up has never made a massive difference. Speakers that are lower sensitivity and are much more difficult to drive, you would experience more of a difference, mostly at higher volume
@@Youthman Hi, last month I have added BasX A3 with my system, but heard not much of difference, I'm thinking to Upgrade BasX A3 with XPA-3, what is your take on this. Please help me out on this. Your Suggestion will be great help for me. Thanks...🙏🏼
Here is where I’m so confused. I have klipsch rp8000 as front stage and Klipsch rp450c as center. I was considering the A3 to run the LRC, my budget is very limited right now and can’t afford nothing fancier that that. But comments like yours make me think that maybe it’s a waste of money, since ,for example, you couldn’t tell any real difference. And on top of it, I’m in Canada, so the amp costs me a lot more in any case.
@@corradoloreto My Polk Reserve R600 & R400 are 4 Ohm's speakers, bit power hungry & less sensitive, they need much more powerful amp to sound at full potential, on the other hand your Klipsch Speakers are 8 Ohm's & Very sensitive at 97/98 DB. As per my knowledge and understanding Emotiva BasX A3 will be very good choice & you will enjoy the Change adding BasX A3, you will never go wrong with that & it will be more than enough...!
@corradoloreto this mite be to late to reply to but your not going to tell alot of a difference in most of your listening experience. But where you will tell the difference is in the dynamic scenes you'll have more reserved power for those peaks . I have the onkyo rz50 and added a old onkyo m-501 that's 150 wpc for the rear surrounds which are the same as my front mains . After the level was set I couldn't tell a difference till I watched good dynamic scene and the rear stood out noticeably better so I got 2 more of them . Now I looking between either the monolith or emotiva amps to power all 11 so I can be more up to date and not have to push any power buttons to watch a movie. But i would say don't go with anything less then the 140 wpc in any amplifier over the receiver power
Hey Youthman. I just bought the Emotivia Basx 3. I have the Denon avr-2310ci. I want to hook the amp to my f/c/r channels. Do I have to go into the setting and switch on the pre outputs.
@@Youthman ok so I did and I get a low buzz from my speakers. I unplugged my speakers and plugged them back into speaker terminals and they worked fine. What do you think I am doing wrong
If you hear a buzz, it sounds like you have a ground loop in your system. Do you have a dedicated circuit just for your Theater equipment? I can my theater I run a dedicated 20 amp circuit that is separate from my lights and wall outlets

Certainly. The 8012 cannot deliver 200 watts

Amp for LCR? Emotiva XPA-3 Gen3 vs BasXA 3
I wonder what their new next models could be moRe power and quality again AB 3 🤣
Did you ear difference between the a-3 and your 200 watt monolith in your setup?
Just ordered an A3 for my LCR. Thanks Youthman!

Got my A3 last week. Hooking it up tonight. Will get the A4 later
Congrats. Be sure to post your thoughts here once you get it setup.

I wonder how it sounds compared to something like the Parasound A31- wondering if there is much of an audible difference?
I am thinking about purchasing the Basx A3, I have SVS Prime Bookshelf and Center. What should set my crossovers to.
Why would you spend more with a lot less wattage per Channel?
what a nincompoop suggestion.
Will this power my Elac Unifi floorstanding speakers?
Hi. I have just installed the BasX A3 to my LCR, Arendal 1961 Monitor and center to my Marantz SR7009. I do hear some noise floor when I am close to the speakers. Michael, what about an A3 for a set of Ultra Towers and center. They’re not as efficient as your JTR’s. Would it be more juice to the front sound stage than my Onkyo 805? Appreciate your thoughts.

Makes it easier to buy more sensitive expensive speakers when the Amp is more budget friendly.
Hello there Youthman. I know this is unrelated to the main topic of the video but:
I have the updated ProMedias from Klipsch and for $150 US, you just can't beat them as they are a great set of speakers and the set you have are the Star Wars edition set and that is the older set.
If I switch the signal to pure direct, will this amp turn off that center light and up the output to 150w x 2 channels?
This is a game changer I’ll be buying this after I can secure a rz50 my svs ultras will love the pure clean power
Just ordered mine today but it’s gonna be hooked up to a drx 3.4 instead of a rz50 can’t wait !!

I would not expect a night and day difference from a $499 amplifier but typically amplifiers provide better separation of musical instruments, more bottom end (if you are running them full range) and give you more headroom when you really want to crank it up.

Will the emotive a3 take a phono signal from a avr and play through the connected speakers?
@@TysonHook-22- hey man. I appreciate you taking the time to type all of that out. It’s a lot of good basic info that can be very confusing to HT noobs and you’ve made it very understandable.

But when I have this kind of volume on my other speakers scares the s*it out of me when something action filled happens. Is this product something that can help so that all speakers are at the same level at all Times?

Hi@ Youthman do you ever trouble hearing the dialog in movies and shows? If so what do you do to resolve the issue ?
That is a fantastic question. I have a video going live today at noon that might help you out. It’s all about how to best optimize your center channel for the best experience. There may be some tips in that video that you have not applied
@@Youthman Looking forward to it! 'cause I've got the same problem where dialogue is softer but effects/action is much louder.
Will the A5 be enough to power pioneer elite center and elite towers they are 4 ohm
Even if the power wattage information were always correct, its only one factor to determine the quality of amplifiers. The acting of the guys was funny
With no discounts said, would you trade in your Monolith for the BasX or do you still consider the Monolith to be a superior product overall even with the cap at 200 watts per channel?
Not sure why I would trade a 200x3 + 100x8 for a 140x3.
The BasX are budget amplifiers. It cannot produce the power that the Monolith can.

Once the amplifier is connected what’s next to do on on the AVR. I have a Denon x4300h. Do I have to ser the left and right front speakers to pre-amp. Any advice will be appreciated
Run your auto calibration software in your AVR.
@Youthman , can you use direc live with these amps? Reciever is an onkyo rz50
So when adding the amp what do you do in the speaker configuration on the avr? Remove the. 3 channels of not?
Nothing. You can’t disable certain channels and not others. The new Denon and Marantz models have preamp mode but it’s all or nothing

I'm looking at the denon 3700h to make a 7.4.1 system but when it comes to amps I want a constant sound with the whole system. I'm thinking about an emotiva 4 channel or the denon pma 600ne. Will I lose the denon sound if I go with the emotima because I feel like I get a better deal with them.
if I use 3 or 5 channels out of 7 in emotiva a7, could I get more power out of Amp?!
@@Youthman Thank you :)
Thx dude
I just heard back from Emotiva
“We don't have capability for bridging on these BasX amps but people can bi-amp with these amps with no issues on an 8 ohm speaker. They will comfortably handle 4 ohm loads with no problems. “
Thank you Y.M. much appreciated 👍🏻
Mr. Youthman,
I have a question for you if I may.
So I have a question on hook up: if I plug all my devices to the Mc1 would I use the hdmi arc out to the tv and the the tv’s hdmi arc back to the processor
I just wanted to say thanks for all your help.
Congrats on the upgrades. I’m assuming they are referring to using ARC and CEC to control your TV. That’s the only way I know that it would work.
@@Youthman so I assume I just need one cable to go out MC 1 to Tv hdmi Cec
Yea one HDMI cable is all you need
@@Youthman once again thanks for all you do for us.
Always glad to help when I can
Great and very anticipated review!
How does the a3 sounds in stereo music?
Asking cause my usage is 60% movies and 40% music?
Should i go for integrated stereo instead?
I ran it in Dolby Atmos for concert movies as described in the video. I didn’t test it in stereo.
I’m definitely getting the a3 when released in the uk
me too. It's just what I've been looking for, at an affordable price.
That is a pretty cool plan
As mentioned in the video, according to the specs, the Basx line doesn't handle 4 ohm loads very well. Unfortunately, this also holds true for their more expensive XPA amps. I think I'll be going with Outlaw.
I'm in love with my A4!!
Did you notice any hiss coming from your speakers? Looking to add this to my system but have 99db sensitive speakers and don't want any hiss.
I did not notice any hiss from 9’.
@@Youthman Your MLP is 9' from the front LCR and screen? Do you see any weave pattern in the XD screen?
Yes, I’m 9’ from it and am not able to see the weave.
Robert is correct
@@robertschuster312 thank u
Emotiva is really hard to beat, it seems they just keep getting better and better!
For low money yes. But if you want the best i would go for Anthem 👌😁
@@philipgustafsson3397 Yeah I've had some Anthem's in the past, they are definitely good amps!
Anthems look cool but I bet most wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the two amps in a blind test.
Is there an option in Denon or other AVRs to disable just the front 3 channels ?
The 6700H has a pretty beefy power supply but as with all AVR’s, the more speakers you add, the less wattage per ch that you get.
It likely depends on how efficient your speakers are whether or not adding an A3 would make a difference or not
Quick question - is it rack mountable? Is it supplied with rack ears for a 19” rack?
Thanks in advance.
It doesn’t come with ears. I have the A5. I just put it on a 2U rack shelf. Emotiva site shows a few rack ears. One of them would work. Go to their RUclips channel and you’ll find a short video where they’re demonstrating the installation.
No included rack mount with the A3
@@robognu5000 super. Many thanks for the info. 👍🏻
It would likely be a lateral move. I would keep the A300
@@Youthman i will eventually, NC 1200 monoblocks. But not suffering at all, I would be totally happy if I was stuck with this forever.
Hey Youthman what do you think about Outlaw amplifiers or Iota amps?
I do not have any experience with Outlaw Audio, although many people really like them.
A3 is out of stock - spoke with them this morning after watching your last video :)
I knew they wouldn’t last long. Going to be a huge hit.
I want to see it on a dyno. It does look nice though.
@
Martin Adamski @Youthman It's back in stock now, just ordered mine
Very cool. They said they were getting more in stock
That Hans Zimmer disc is one of the best mastered and recorded concerted I have heard. It is my go to concert disc for testing.
I agree wholeheartedly
@@Youthman Thanks for your reviews. I enjoy real world observation reviews.
Thank you for the kind words Keith glad you’re enjoying the reviews from a consumer’s perspective
Do what is shown in the video. You need a left, right and centre pre out on your AV.
Emotiva dont sell on Canada anymore ? Trying to get answer but nothing from them
Emotiva still ships to Canada.
I’m curious which interconnects you’re using or used while testing the amp? I have a A3 coming in this week to test along with my Denon X3800H. Would Blue jeans Coaxial Digital Audio Cable be suitable? Thanks!
Nothing fancy. Blue Jeans makes great products. You don’t need to spend a fortune on cables and interconnects.
@@Youthman awesome thanks. I’m barely on a 5.1.2 setup in a medium room so not sure if the basx will do anything noticeable, audibly, but i was curious enough to test it myself. Thanks again!
If your speakers are efficient, you may not hear much of a difference, adding an external Amplifier, especially the BasX Series.
@@Youthman that’s what I’m already assuming. I’m using Klipsch RP600m as my LR and 404c as my center right now 😩
I’m not sure you will hear a massive difference due to their high sensitivity.
@@Youthman Thank you buddy. I appreciate it.
If your speakers are thirsty, you can get the OSD Nero XA5180 and just use 3 channels for 200wpc. It's $200 more expensive than it was a few months ago, but still probably the best AVR offload bang for buck.
OSD makes great budget amps as well. They were supposed to be be making a 3ch amplifier but as of now, it isn’t offered.
How would you rate this amp versus any of the Tonewinner amps?
I do not have any experience with Tonewinner
@@Youthman Too bad they look good and they use to make Emotiva
Hi, Would the A3 power the Polk R350 and R200? Thank you
With the Polk being 87dB sensitivity, I would recommend the XPA-3 as they require more power to drive them to reference levels.
@@Youthman Thanks
@youthman What website were you using to view the ATI amps?
Not sure. I just did a Google search for 3ch amplifiers.
I will probably purchase this amp. Perfect for my current scenario. But first I’m getting me a JTR captivator ulf.
Hey Youthman. I just bought the Emotivia Basx 3. I have the Denon avr-2310ci. I want to hook the amp to my f/c/r channels. Do I have to go into the setting and switch on the pre outputs.
Congrats! Preouts are always on so just hook them up and you are good to go.
@@Youthman yes I do but there is no sound coming from my speakers. Just the buzz.
Oh if there’s zero sound, you have an issue. I thought you meant you heard a slight buzz in your speakers. What AVR and amplifier do you have?
If these came out I might have bought these instead of some outlaw audio amps for the surround and Atmos..
But I really do like my outlaw amps...
I think you’re getting more with outlaw
I’ve heard great things about Outlaw amps as well.
