@Yama Fanboy I recommend watching the Elysian review for the HC1 question. We have not heard any of the new Buchardt speakers but based on my recollection of the MK1, that answer would a resounding no. Elysian is far better. By a country mile.
I actually torn between the a2 and a2 mini. Not sure which would pair better with my Yamaha tsr 7850 and RSL CG5’s. It’s an avr but it only has peoutst for the fronts.
My burning question to you is: How do pro-audio (recording studio / live) amplifiers (which can be notably less expensive) stack up against some of these home audio amps?
I just posted recently on the Emotiva BasX A2 review... I've had the A2s for a week driving my Heco Aurora 700s. Just amazing performance and really opened up the soundstage and improved imaging over my Marantz stereo receiver. Still glad that I went with the A2 over the A1 just because of real estate issues on my equipment stand. Thanks again, to both of you, for the fantastic review.
A powerhouse amp for $500US? Hell yes. I’d love to see more products in this lower price range as we all don’t have 10 grand laying around to build a two channel system. Andrew and Kristi approved gear is always considered first for new purchases.
@@lindsethnittisju797 Yeah I know. Unfortunately they recently raised their prices. They were $400 each when this video first aired. Factor in the 10% discount and you were looking at around $700. Not insignificant money but reasonable compared to the competition. Sadly, this hobby is not for the faint of wallet :(
@@ryanw8664 When has HiFi ever been for the faint of wallet? One could argue that this is a golden age of HiFi with regard to affordability. When one considers what ~$500 today will buy vs. what it's 1980 equivalent would buy it seems that our entry level gear is unbelievably better than the entry level gear of the day. $500 today is about $135 back in 1980.
Andrew & Kristi, Haha! Another fun Review! SOOO, to answer your VERY TOUGH question about which Emotiva... For a 2-Channel system, a pair of A1's with Polk R700' sounds like a match made in heaven. Easy. However, You know I now have the RX50, and with your advice the Polk R700's for left and right (Center likely the Polk R400 for BEST voice clarity) it seems the A1 is a perfect match to the R700's!!! Now, as my theater design continues... we Previously planned the Emotiva A3 140w driving LCR channels. BUT, If the A1's and 200w (Same distortion?) at 2x cost is best ... what do I match for the Center speaker??? Would the RZ-50's Center channel Amp for the R400's be a good option or so weak I'd be best getting another A1??? OR does such a $1,350 for 3 @ A1's reveal another option at this price point for my Theater LCR's ... like the EMOTIVA XPA-3 Gen3 at $1,399. Oh what a tangled budget I weave! My questions fot You: Will the 200+ watt vice 140w L&R driving my Polk R700 in my 19'x19' theater provide a best value option? And if so... at this $1360-$1400 cost isn't the XPA-3 now the Best Sounding Option; or do 3 seperate A1 provide best sound at this $1400 Price point. Haha, If I find that extra $$$ somewhere??? Lol Last question: Do seperate Amps for each speaker provide some kind of audio benefit? Cheers, Eric
Hey Eric, thank you for your support! If you're going with an RZ50 and Polk speakers across the front, you can totally do a pair of A1s, but I would urge you to side with your original plan and go with the BasX A3. You will be fine sonically and will save going that route.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Thanks, it sure saves money. I was worried that the extra power (200w vice only 140w) with R700's would be desirable! Cheers! Eric
Thank you! The R700/A1 pairing sounds really appealing at those relative price points. Still aspirational for me, but you're helping me to build a plan around where I should spend my money and where I can save a bit and still get quality results.
You can totally get quality results with an amp like BasX AND a speaker such as the R700 or even the lesser R200 bookshelf. You don't have to go broke to enjoy this hobby. Thanks for tuning in!
I so appreciate the honesty and quality that goes into these reviews. Your style of combining proper reviews with questioning and reflection prompted by Kristi makes them both informative and personally affecting. Love it. Question - You answered the burning question in my mind, namely whether this would be a good fit with the R700s I have on the way. Currently using the RZ-50 for home theater use. Do you think adding the Emotivas would make and night and day difference? Worth amping the center channel (R400) as well?
I would test the RZ50 and R700s first and see if that makes you happy before you buy separate amps. If you find yourself wanting more, the Emotivas will work great with this combo. Thanks so much for the support!
Yes! We need more cheap and powerful amp/monoblock reviews since floorstanders nowadays are getting better and cheaper. Power is everything, give me more POWAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
I like that they support trigger control. That allows for not only for convenient control, but in some setups it is really a must since having the amps hidden away is a thing.
Thank you for the great review! I am currently using the Basx A3 (LCR) with the RZ50 and it sounds much clearer and separation of sounds is more noticeable. I’ve been contemplating moving to the XPA line (summer sale), but it is hard to justify the difference in cost and the fact the XPA line is probably due for a refresh as noted. I’m happy with this pair for now and thanks for your reviews 😀.
I got the A3 and i think for my volume movie watching preferences, its not strong enough. It shuts off when theres heavy action in the movie. I may return it and consider in investing in 3 x A1’s so that each of my front stage speakers (L+C+R) all get up to 200w and each, all with their own power supply.
I love seeing an Outlaw Audio product showing it’s face on the channel. I’ll cast a vote to see a review of their rr2160 mkii integrated amp also. I love the power of mine pushing some Emotiva T2+’s with their dual 8” woofers.
Small correction: -The Emotiva 325 rms 4ohm power rating is at 1khz -Outlaw 2200 300w rms 4 ohm rating is full range (20hz-20khz) -Outlaw has balanced XLR - Outlaw is almost $200 cheaper
I will say I wish my receiver was pre-amp'ed I would buy this in a heartbeat! Kristi had me rolling over here in my tractor 😆 but seriously awesome video!
Found driving my B&W 702s2 towers with a 100w per channel Denon AV Receiver resulted in terrible sound, so I purchased a Rotel 1582 MkII and they came alive! I recently bought the B&W HTM71s3 center channel and while it is a significant improvement over the previous B&W HTM72s3, I'm pretty sure I'm leaving a lot on the table driving it with the Denon. Didn't want to spend a bunch on a monoblock amplifier and it just so happened that the Emotiva BasX A1s showed up on my Instagram feed. Got the 'thumbs up' from Andrew and submitted the order. I'll update the comment once I get it set up.
Emotiva gave me the opportunity to stop chasing the stereo perfection dream. Dollar to performance ratio is exceptional. I can spend more, I don't have to. If the end result is to just enjoy, Emotiva allows that without breaking the bank and forces you to spend a ton more to get an once more of performance.
The Producer's producer strikes again. Excellent content and Happy 4th .......have fun & be safe! Pushing Definitive Technology SuperTowers BP7001 & BP7002 rears, CLR 2002 Center w/ a Marantz SR7013. Going to pickup the Emotiva XPA GEN3 5
I am super happy with my BasX a400 purchase (on sale for $300). 100 wpc is plenty (if you have a wife). My vintage Marantz SP1515 3-way speakers with 15" woofers can really rattle the windows. Add in an Asgard 3 and Sanskrit 2 and I'm rocking. Good show guys.
Just received the Basx A3,. I have the Denon 4400 which powers 9 channels, but processes 11, so this amp will be set up to power LCR and I’ll use the Denon to now power 2 rear height channels. Can’t wait to set up this weekend!
How is the A3 working out for you? I paired it with my Denon x6300h and i find it shuts off when i watch a movie when there is a dynamic spike in the audio. I set my Denon’s volume at the same value as when i’d use the av’s internal amps and never had it shit down.
Thanks for the great review Andrew. I can attest to the life of emotive amps, owning one UPA 5 for more than 10 years, still going strong. I just bought a couple of BasX A1 because of your review and the end of the year sale. I really would like to test the Outlaw 2200, i also own Outlaw 7000x and 5000, superb amps imo. That said, i think they all offer very good amps that will last you a life time.
My garage system is based on Emotiva BasX TA1 Stereo preamp/tuner amp thing with a Emotiva CD player. I use a pair of Model 81 Human Speakers. Those three components allow me to dwell in Classic rock without listener fatigue or anxiety. (The tuner is very good. As an aside, the preamp/tuner replaced an Outlaw Audio RR2150 receiver. It was a true upgrade.)
I'm primarily interested in home theater, and my experience doesn't go beyond using a single AVR...so, I answering the question of the day...I honestly don't have my eyes on any amplifiers, nor to do know what I would do with one, unless I had a better AVR that had pre-out options to let an amp reduce the load of the AVR. Maybe some day you could do a video on the different ways to set up a home theater with different types of equipment.
I'm considering these monoblocks, the Marantz 40n, Peachtree 300n, rotel mkII power amp, or the Musical Fidelity m5si. It would pair with my Monitor Audio 300 Silvers, which like power, and possibly a Cambridge Audio CXN v2. I currently have a CA Azur 851N that they will warranty due to a clicking issues, so I can either get the CXN as a replacement or use those $ towards another CA product (Evo 150?). I could also replace all this with the Marantz, but it may lack the power for those speakers. Too many options are my main issue. Any guidance with all those choices? I'm after the best sound with those speakers with streaming (Tidal, Qobuz) as my primary source. I think I'm leaning towards the MF m5si with the CXN.
Thanks so much for your support and apologies for the delayed response. So long as you are committed to only listening to digital music (ie no turntable), the CXN V2 is IMO a terrific streamer/DAC/preamp solution. I also think it will pair well with all of the amps on your list. I have zero experience with the Peachtree so I can't help you with that one. I believe that the Emotiva monos will sound very close in quality to the Rotel or MF options. Because you are considering the CXN v2, I wouldn't shop for the Marantz 40n. Try the Emotivas with the Cambridge as it will be the most affordable option while giving you 90% of the same sound for your speakers.
I had just bought a pair of these last weekend and are just getting them broken in. I have only listened for a few hours now, but I am fairly impressed with these affordable amps. I needed something for everyday listening when I did not want to fire up my big tube amp. They are driving a vintage pair of Martin Logan CLS II.
The outlaw 2220 is AB/G with rail switching. The Emotiva A1 monoblock is pure AB. Does that matter? I don't know. I know that I love my pure AB outlaw 2160 integrated amp and I know that anything other than pure AB (D, G, H) tends to be cheaper per watt by a long shot. If there really isn't an advantage to pure AB I'd like to know for sure so I can move on and get more power for less money. At least per watt.
I have had the BasX A-150 for two weeks now. Very good little amp. Using it with the concept 300 and hav to say, its controlling them really well. Enough power and neutral sound, not that different from the Technics SGU700 MII I had with them. However now I can play with tube preamps and stuff :D What a good brand, your video of the HPC brpught me to try the 150.
Hey Andrew, Iv'e been living with my new HC-1 mono's for over a month and thanks to you I'm a "Mono-convert". I've always had integrated or power amps in my systems but within seconds of listening to the HC-1's the separation, bass and extended detail just flawed me, there was no turning back, Mono's just control each speaker maximising the potential of the speakers. My out going Amp is up for sale, only had it 6 months. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience
It's weird how I still like watching these videos, even though I can't buy any of this stuff. I'm on a fixed income, and new anything, is out of the question, but I still enjoy seeing you review gear. And, when did you get the custom Klipsch?
Besides the power, why would you do two A1s as opposed to one A2? The A2 is the same price as the A1 at $449. I think it would be a great comparison to see what, if any, difference there is between 2 A1s and 1 A2.
the A2 is a class A/B with a toroidal transformer and larger capacitors with a larger aluminum heat sink. I think you are referring to the smaller A2m.
Happy Thursday. You guys are killing me. The Cornwall’s and the HiFi Rose, what other little secrets do you guys have up your sleeves? I think these mono blocks will serve many well. It all depends on the other components in your chain and amount a person is willing to spend. Anything is possible. Thanks for such an entertaining video.
Thanks for your videos! I learn some and find then entertaining to watch. I ended up getting a Emotiva A2. Does exactly what I need. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Because of Andrews reviews I ended up buying the Polk R700 after having a demo against other speakers twice /three times the cost. Emotiva could be my next purchase.
QOTD, Really hard to be too critical of the performance since the cost is so low for basx. I would buy basx if this stuff was available when I first started as an audio enthusiast. It’s a good entry level product that lets you appreciate the hifi hobby without spending too much. Even good for home theater with av separates at low cost. Appreciate the realistic review. Emotiva, having lots to offer at all budgets. Hopefully the competition will move other online audio companies to offer similar products. Thanks
My old 5-channel amp was dying and the muddiness was taking over. I needed something to hold me over for a while until I could save up for the monoblock setup I eventually want. The BasX A5 was an attractive option that I could eventually repurpose to my stereo office setup if I wanted to. I had no idea just how far gone my old amp was. I was so surprised at the clarity and balance it brought to my 5.1 setup. It has really exposed what surround mixes are great and what are atrocious. (The Orville: New Hoizons is amazingly one of the best current shows with a crystal clear sound stage and attention to dialogue priority) I am not going to really be melting any faces with the A5, but it still does the job at comfortable listening levels and no audible idle hiss with my mix of Elac Uni-Fi 2.0 and Debut 2.0 speakers.
I have a new build in process and I also just picked up the older A500 to back up or replace older Parasound and NAD 5 channel amps. Great value. Given that the 5 channel amp is for the centre and four ceiling channels I know it will work brilliantly. For Two channel listening I am more critical and will use a more music focused Moon amp. I have owned Emotiva before and see them as neutral and perfect valued products. Not as economical as the first generations of XPA but the BassX lines are a nice upgrade over A/V receiver power.
I have had my HiFi Rose 150B for a while now and I simply love it. It sounds great and I cannot deny that I love those VU-meters. I had a Linn DS before and I definately prefer the HiFi Rose.
Speaking of HifiRose, didn’t we see a background teaser shot of the zany steampunk RA180 amp in recent video? Not that I’m in the market for an approximately $8600 CDN piece, but it’s very intriguing, and deserves a deep dive that I can only assume will provide for much entertainment when it gets to the “what did Kristi think?” portion. Hopefully you’ve got on hand a pair of bi-amp capable passive speakers that have suitable resolution.
"They worked. We're done.". Love it. In a way that describes the perfect amp, since an is not supposed to alter the sound just amplify so you can drive the speakers of your choice. Now of course not so simple in real life, which is bad since who doesn't dream of a perfect amp and also good - since if it was so simple we would not have fun hunting for the perfect amp :-) Personally I am a big fan of having power enough when it comes to speakers, having that just removes a lot of problems with many setups and that is even true of the amps are not perfect. The BasX sure seem to be a candidate to consider, the only real downside is they are mono blocks and not stereo ones that can be bridged ie. put in mono mode as that would give an upgrade path where you could start with just one BasX. PS. On the question of the day. I'm running a set of Infinity Kappa 90 which are supposedly really difficult impedance wise, so with that the more power is really the better. Only on the other hand watt doesn't tell the whole story and from the specs and review the BasX ought to do just fine.
If the A2 could be bridged that would be sweet, but I think given the low per pair price of the A1s, I get why they didn't offer an A2 with ""mono" option.
I think Kristi should do the lead review on some pieces of equipment. This particular quote is why I think she should, not to take anything away from Andrew's detailed and informative reviews.
I think many folks looking to own Emotiva monoblocks would appreciate a review on Emotiva XPA HC-1 High Current Monoblock Amplifier VS XPA-DR1 Differential Reference Monoblock Power Amplifier. The XPA-DR2 Differential Reference Two-Channel Power Amplifier may be worth mentioning as well.
Could I get away with saving a buck and using the BasX A2 to drive two Polk R700s? Am I sacrificing much going from 200 watt per channel monoblock to a 160 watt per Channel stereo?
Thanks for comparing to the Crown Drivecore II. I'm very happy with my XLS2002 (all models above the 1002 allegedly have less noise or distortion) and have never noticed noise/hiss coming from my JBL4312SE speakers. Plus with the extra power I don't need to turn the gain up entirely. However, Emotiva is close to my home in Nashville and is a good bargain so I am often curious if I would truly notice the switch back to class AB. I think for now I am content.
Your on-screen specs at the beginning of the video list the A1's THD as being 0.1%, 20-20kHz into 4 ohms. Looking on their website, the 0.1% is only rated at 1kHz, not the full spectrum. Full spectrum is probably 1% THD or more, which would be more in line with the rest of the amps in the Basx (and even XPA) lines for 4 ohm loads. Emotiva just doesn't do 4 ohms very well.
Hi Andrew and Kristi have a wonderful 4th of July. I bought the basx-3 in November 2021 and added the basx-4 in May 2022 to my Denon 3700h. The speakers are all Klipsch with the 8000f as my fronts. The sound stage has definitely improved and sound fuller especially on lower volume. Very satisfied with the Emotiva. Didn't think I needed more power as I don't play very loud.
The Emotiva are well made, reliable and are a good value. Personally I prefer the sound of the Hypex class D line of amps, but really the differences are small.
Does an avr have enough pre-out voltage for these? Marantz has 1.2v and max power input sensitivity on these should be 1.6v. i’m reading specs now, no experience with matching amps
I’m so impressed by the emotiva offerings. I recently got lucky and got the rz50 and I’m still in awe of the difference over my previous av that I’m left wondering, do I need more for my front channels. I plan to get the r700 whenever they show up again and I’m concerned that I might actually need more juice once I do. Anyway, another great review! Darn audiophile mindset. Is it ever enough?
Did you end up getting any outboard amps? You listed all three things I've been interested in lately, though the hiss Andrew mentioned with the amps are probably a deal-breaker. I hate amps that aren't dead silent.
@@stevenbullock9276 Yes, I didn’t even read what I had said previously but I have the rz50, added the emotiva xpa-5 gen 3 amps and the Polk audio R700 speakers. Surrounds are klipsch rp600. Drop a pin quiet and amazing for music and movies.
Another great review!! I Purchased an RZ50 based heavily on ur reviews and recently received the unit after many months of waiting and am very happy with it so far, it’s a giant leap into modern media formats. My question is would you consider these monoblocks a worthy upgraded to the RZ’s front soundstage? Current speakers are some older JBL ES series towers and Center upgrades likely in the future.
I continue to contemplate adding separate amplifiers for my LRC in my home theater rather than relying on the T778 for amplification. I wonder how much of an improvement it would make.
Surprised you didn't compare the Emotiva A1 monoblocks to the recently reviewed A2 stereo amp. It would be interesting to know if it's worth going with mono amps or settle with the stereo amp.
Mr Robinson glad to see another one of your great reviews, I’m a big fan of mono amps I’ve been wondering if they were going to and waiting on Emotiva to release bas x series mono amplifiers. Appreciate the coverage sir , keep up great content!
Regarding the QOTD, my answer is not an amp but the MC1 pre/pro. I’ve said before and I’ll let anyone who will listen know I like my tubes. Whether you go full diy or get your grubby hands on some of the cheap but cheerful valve options for overseas, tube home theater is now within most peoples budget(but maybe not their taste or patience or practicality). I’ve been looking at this sub $1k(by a hair)processor now and it seems to fill a big void for a fairly up to date prepro that’s not hugely expensive. True I could get a receiver with preamp outs but there aren’t many with full pre outs and Atmos/DTS-X. This lil MC-1 is worth a look for me.
I love emotiva, however I have spoken to a couple of retailers in the EU who says they will not update their stock with new emotiva gear. The reason being that emotiva is focusing their efforts on the American market.
@@Safetytrousers Interesting, maybe it is the smaller markets in the EU suffering. Unfortunately, UK is not an option anymore as it is sometimes even more expensive to get gear from the UK, than even the US, after they left the union.
You and Kristi bring us a lot of lesser known jewels 💎in hifi. Please bring us more stuff from Atlantic Technology; Arendal; Buchart; Tekton, Golden Ear etc and other lesser known brands. Thanks! I discovered the Warfdale Elysian from you, so appreciate that!
How would you compare a setup like these monos and a preamp compared to an integrated in roughly the same price range like a Rotel A14? It’s the classic question of separates over and integrated. I prefer the footprint of an integrated, and my speakers aren’t difficult to drive (Paradigm Studio 40 v2’s) but if a setup of these with a nice preamp is around the same price as an integrated like the Rotel A14 or Audiolab 6000a play… Which way would you go?
Hi Andrew and Kristi, can you please review the mini dsp flex (with Dirac live) as a cost-effective dac/pre amp/streamer, paired to a class AB amp, like the Emotiva basX? I'm looking to pair this setup with bookshelves and a powered sub. Why don't audiophiles use room correction more often??
Just got a pair hooked up to my Vandersteen 3's and Marantz Sr8400 (as pre) using WiiM as Hi-Rez source besides sounding AMAZING, there is NO AUDIBLE HISS . I put my ear on the speaker sock; zip, nada & nothing but silence. You may have a grounding or cable isssue. PS on Emotiva website they asked if you influenced my decision, which you did in part.
I am not there yet… The best Emotiva Amp for me (currently) is the BasX A2m. It is going to replace a little class D amp that I’m currently using. I really like the recommendation of growing my audio system over time and enjoying the journey, instead of trying to buy the most expensive equipment one can afford right away.
Well I’m about to have a pair of r700 delivered on Monday and I have an rz50 coming in 6-10 weeks when the new stock lands in Oz ( got the last one of four available 🙏), and these mono amps could well be next. I’m just curious to know why wouldn’t you go stereo amp over mono ? Love the channel and the budget reviews. I was so close to getting the wharfedale lintons but when you reviewed the polk r700 I had to go with them. Can’t wait for Monday 🎉🎉🎉
Enjoy your new system, mate! As for single channel amps over stereo? They make great audio jewelry for showing off your gear. Can’t think of any other reason to get them instead of a two channel box.
Interesting stuff, indeed! I considered these monoblocks, along with the Outlaw M2220 monoblocks, for my PC audio setup. I ended up going with an XLS 2502 after I found an open box sale from Zzounds. Full 6 year warranty and looks brand new for $650 was too good to ignore. It does a great job with my LS50 Metas and doesn't even get warm after 10-12 hours of music or gaming. Another stellar review!!
Loved the video. Unfortunately you made my decision a little more difficult. I have the Nad c388 and Forte i’s. I think I’m leaning towards a pair of A1’s.
I’d like to have your take on Emotiva’s reference line of power amplifiers, particularly their XPA-DR3 unit. Heard it’s a beast of an amplifier and I might consider it if it is as good as some people have said.
Is it safe to stack the amps? I’m considering placing my Marantz stereo 70s on top of Basx A2 using hard rubber spacers to provide about 2 inches of clearance. Is there a risk of overheating the amp or causing any noise interference?
The power ratings are similar. But it's up to u. Mono amps have their own power source where as two channel amps SHARE the power. My A2 , perfect! And u need two plugs on the wall,
It was your review of the XPA HC1 that made me decide to get those for my B&W 603s2 anniversary. And wow the difference was night and day. I have a yamaha A6A. I didn't know emotiva's bass X line had a mono block option. I may add those for more of my other channels. I wish you would do a review for the 603. I know how you feel about their 606 but maybe the 603 may fair better 🤷🏾♂️
Based on what we've heard from the 600 Series (606/607 in house and 603 in store) and they were all disappointing. IMO, it takes going to the 700 series here bit.ly/3N1BdHu to get back to the B&W sound I remember and like.
Andrew....great video ty. Question for you. I have a cambridge audio cxa81 (and cd transport and streamer). I have been thinking about adding a separate power amp to the system. Not for loud listening levels. I hope that a separate power amp will essentially open up my speakers dynamically and give some extra listening enjoyment. My fear is that i could $1,000 - $3,000 out of pocket and discover no improved listening experience. Do you have any thoughts or experience with using a separate power amp with an integrated amp? Also this could be step one in a move to separates. TY for your time! Very curious here.
Cool, so now that you guys have lived with three other Klipsch Heritage loudspeakers, will be interesting to get your take on Sir Cornwall the IV th…. Best regards from ATX…
Off topic question: Does a large coffee table like yours have any kind of negative affect in your listening room? Just curious. I'm kinda dealing with this with my coffee as it seems like the sound skips off the top of it. Thanks man
Good quality power amps at sensible prices for a change. I don't need all that power due to a small home cinema room, the BasX A7 would suit my requirements and due to lack of space wouldn't take up a whole rack just for power amps.

Andrew & Kristi,
Haha!
My questions fot You:
Will the 200+ watt vice 140w L&R driving my Polk R700 in my 19'x19' theater provide a best value option?
And if so... at this $1360-$1400 cost isn't the XPA-3 now the Best Sounding Option; or do 3 seperate A1 provide best sound at this $1400 Price point. Haha, If I find that extra $$$ somewhere??? Lol
Last question: Do seperate Amps for each speaker provide some kind of audio benefit?
Cheers,
Eric
Hey Eric, thank you for your support! If you're going with an RZ50 and Polk speakers across the front, you can totally do a pair of A1s, but I would urge you to side with your original plan and go with the BasX A3. You will be fine sonically and will save going that route.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews
Thanks, it sure saves money.
POWER indeed! Thanks for tuning in!
I like that they support trigger control. That allows for not only for convenient control, but in some setups it is really a must since having the amps hidden away is a thing.
Power? I'll take sound quality over power.
@@991carreras3 Of course, but that quality is pretty much a given here.
@@991carreras3 True, but it's nice to have both. 😊
Glad it was helpful and thank you so much for your support!
@keyzone72 great Choice!
I love seeing an Outlaw Audio product showing it’s face on the channel. I’ll cast a vote to see a review of their rr2160 mkii integrated amp also. I love the power of mine pushing some Emotiva T2+’s with their dual 8” woofers.
Would also love to see a review of the RR2160 MK II, very little attention is given to this product.
Small correction:
-The Emotiva 325 rms 4ohm power rating is at 1khz
-Outlaw 2200 300w rms 4 ohm rating is full range (20hz-20khz)
-Outlaw has balanced XLR
- Outlaw is almost $200 cheaper
Why are subwoofer/LFE outputs so rare on integrated and power amps? I feel forced to buy an AV receiver because of this.
Yo Kristi you're so funny!! Love your contributions so much.
Emotiva have certainly filled a niche in the reasonably priced market. Many thanks for this great review.
MARTIN LOGAN CLS II!!!! One of my all-time favorite speakers, period!
Thanks! Be sure to tune in Sunday for more details on the Klipsch!
Great channel as always Andrew
Kristi was spot on. As soon as I seen the Klipsch speakers I was totally distracted, lol.
Be sure to tune in Sunday then!
Cornwall IVs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ; ) and yes I watched the full video and well done as usual.
Besides the power, why would you do two A1s as opposed to one A2? The A2 is the same price as the A1 at $449. I think it would be a great comparison to see what, if any, difference there is between 2 A1s and 1 A2.
A1 is a Class A/B amp with a toroidal transformer while the A2 is class D.
the A2 is a class A/B with a toroidal transformer and larger capacitors with a larger aluminum heat sink.
Happy Thursday to you Brian! Thanks for joining us!
So good to see you this morning!
What other speakers did you compare them too?
Worth noting, the Outlaw 2200 is $49 less than the A1 and has balanced XLR. Still doing an an Emotiva XPR-5 from a decade ago.
QOTD,
Really hard to be too critical of the performance since the cost is so low for basx.
Now of course not so simple in real life, which is bad since who doesn't dream of a perfect amp and also good - since if it was so simple we would not have fun hunting for the perfect amp :-)
Personally I am a big fan of having power enough when it comes to speakers, having that just removes a lot of problems with many setups and that is even true of the amps are not perfect.
Great review! But my god those Cornwalls are gorgeous. What finish is that?!? They look absolutely perfect for your new space.
Stay tuned Joe, all will be revealed soon.
If you have something that works for you then it is always my recommendation to stick with what you already own. Thanks for tuning in!
I own a xls2002 and love it! When paired with the right tube preamp it sings beautifully. What you think?@andrewrobinson
Agreed on the style chassis design overhaul.
Have the flown you out to TN to see there new designs for 2023.
It's always a good thing to have plenty of headroom.
Your equipment will run cooler, quieter, and cleaner.
Please let me know what you found out please sir thanks for your time in advance.
@@TheNLHAZEall i can tell you is that it works :)
@harryballector Thank I will pull the trigger then cheers 🍺🍺👍👍
Just ordered 3 of these monoblocks to pair with my Anthem MRX
I no longer had the A2 in house, so I couldn't do a direct head-to-head, sorry.
Mr Robinson glad to see another one of your great reviews, I’m a big fan of mono amps I’ve been wondering if they were going to and waiting on Emotiva to release bas x series mono amplifiers. Appreciate the coverage sir , keep up great content!
I hadn’t really heard of this type of amplifier before your previous review but I’d definitely be interested in hearing a set of basx a1 amps
Friggin love you guys by the way!
Cornwaaaaall🤯 Cant wait!
I love emotiva, however I have spoken to a couple of retailers in the EU who says they will not update their stock with new emotiva gear. The reason being that emotiva is focusing their efforts on the American market.
Interesting. Maybe the cost of shipping makes it difficult for retailers to recoup profits...just spitballing here.
I had to ring Richer Sounds (UK) for an Emotiva because they had to order it in. It in fact arrived the very next day after I paid during that call.
@@Safetytrousers Interesting, maybe it is the smaller markets in the EU suffering. Unfortunately, UK is not an option anymore as it is sometimes even more expensive to get gear from the UK, than even the US, after they left the union.
I bought direct from Emotiva A300 and A3 a year apart, shipped to Australia. You could give it a try direct from them.
I just purchased two A1's and the upgraded power cable. Will be replacing one A2.
Was it worth it audibly?
Yes please tell us thanks..
Appreciate you watching and your requests have been noted. Enjoy the rest of your day!
For a comparison - I’d consider the Outlaw Audio 2220.
These worth trying with Martin Logan Theos speakers?
Hello, like to ask ... how do I hookup 2 monos to 2 pre amp?
Do the A1 and A2 sound different other than the extra power?
Hi another great review- did I miss the xpa review- I can’t see it on your list?
ruclips.net/video/7NgzIQj-xds/видео.html this type of info is (typically) noted in description
Excited about this video!!!
Thanks for tuning in and let us know what you think once you've had a chance to watch the whole video.
Loved the video. Unfortunately you made my decision a little more difficult. I have the Nad c388 and Forte i’s. I think I’m leaning towards a pair of A1’s.
Funny, I’ve been eyeing emotiva for like 10 years. Would really like you to review one of their speakers.
I’d like to have your take on Emotiva’s reference line of power amplifiers, particularly their XPA-DR3 unit. Heard it’s a beast of an amplifier and I might consider it if it is as good as some people have said.
Maybe we'll take a peek down the road. Thanks for watching!
Great video, XPA needs Class-D Hypex am as the evolution. They moved to SMPS in Gen 3 so now just put in the Hypex modules and lets crank it up.
Absolutely Kristi, budget friendly hifi 👌
Tomorrow I'm going to pick up an Emotiva Basx PT1 preamp to tie in with a vintage amp to have remote capability what you think?
Is it safe to stack the amps? I’m considering placing my Marantz stereo 70s on top of Basx A2 using hard rubber spacers to provide about 2 inches of clearance. Is there a risk of overheating the amp or causing any noise interference?
How would these compare to Michi ? any chance of getting those in for review
Can someone please explain to me this monoblock amp idea. When did a stereo amp go out of style?
Does anyone have experience or knowledge to know if these mono blocks would be compatible with the new Schiit Saga 2?
How will the Bas X series work with Def Tech 9060?
How should the speakers be wired to get the most quality sound for music & 5.1.2 movie viewing?
Having a hard time choosing between the A-2 and a pair of A-1s. Recommendations for which would pair better with the Airmotiv T1+ or T2+?
The power ratings are similar.
But it's up to u.
Mono amps have their own power source where as two channel amps SHARE the power. My A2 , perfect!
And u need two plugs on the wall,
If I were to get in separates, I would seriously consider the BassX line. Nicely done.
Thanks Scott!
Please get a pair of Outlaws. No one has much out there. Very interested in outlaw w the XLR input.
What you said about the Polk speakers and the amps has alot of meaning for value for your money
Compared to high end.
Emotiva Basx A1 or Peach tree Amp500?
Which one would you buy?
Unrelated but may I ask where you got the art behind you ? TV screensaver ?
Thanks
Andrew can u do a review on Emotiva XPA- DR1 Differential. Reference Mono Block power amplifer
Like your input too Andrew 😅
Hi Andrew.
Have you ever made a video where you tryed the difference between a Reciver and a surround processor ?
not yet, but likely soon.
Seems like the HP1 or these Emotiva BasX A1s, for the money involved, might be a new "go to" amp for the dreaded Magnepan Family.
Off topic question: Does a large coffee table like yours have any kind of negative affect in your listening room? Just curious. I'm kinda dealing with this with my coffee as it seems like the sound skips off the top of it. Thanks man
Good quality power amps at sensible prices for a change.
I don't need all that power due to a small home cinema room, the BasX A7 would suit my
requirements and due to lack of space wouldn't take up a whole rack just for power amps.
The BasX line has a little something for everyone. Appreciate you watching this morning!
